It’s a five minute drive outside of the Eastern side of town and features clear water and sandy beaches--although, the sand here is notorious for squeaking when you step on it. It’s a hot spot for all fun summer activities, but it’s been in the news for mysterious reports of some strange, aquatic monster. Some accounts say they’ve spotted a twenty foot long, snake like creature capable of rearing a long neck high above the water. It’s hard to tell if the videos are doctored, but there are too many rumors to dismiss easily. Something strange might be lurking deep in the water. Or it’s just a hoax to get people out to the Reservoir! But…Sometimes, people feel like something is grabbing their ankle, even if they are just wading in the shallow end. In the deeper parts of the water, it gets a little more intense: something has been said to grab onto ankles and pull. People have been warned about dangerous pranks, but so far no one has been caught. In the shallow end, anyone unfortunate enough to be targeted may feel themselves being knocked off their feet and tugged into the water; anyone in deep water may feel a firm grip on their ankle, tugging them lower and lower. Somehow, anyone it targets is freed--either by wriggling and fighting, or because someone intervenes and pulls the would-be victim up. No one has drowned in the lake. Yet. It's impossible to see who, or what, is doing this, but it usually gives up after one failed attempt. Usually. While you may find yourself harassed by the supposed cryptid, or see something visibly odd in the distance, you cannot take any pictures of the creature. Who knows if you’re even being attacked by the cryptid–or just another youma? It isn't often that Lucis actually goes topless -- the scars on his chest were more visible than they would like, but after a moment of thinking themselves into a state, they just went 'screw it', and thus here they were on the beach, barefoot with toes wiggling in the sand and a beach bag at their side, filled with the works -- sunscreen, sunglasses, two towels, aloe, bandaids, flip flops...even an umbrella they stabbed the ground with to make a bit of shade to relax in. There were more people here than the norm, even for the middle of summer, but honestly? They were pretty sure this was a good idea, now that the worst of summer had passed. Small little pocket of comfort created, between umbrella and towel, they put a hand over their forehead, almost like a visor, looking out towards the water, debating....

Zev was looking forward to going swimming this year. It was already too freakin' hot, and he liberally applied his sunscreen after he set up his spot on the beach, near to some people but not right up in anyone's business. People still deserved some space, even in public. So when he saw the shadow out in the water, he glanced over to the other person staring out at the water nearby and called out, "You see that thing too, right?" He needed to make sure he wasn't insane before he went to investigate further. Crazy shadows... as long as someone else saw it, then he could be really sure something was afoot.

No. No, no, no, no, [it]no, Lucis did not want freaky s**t happening when they was trying to relax, again. They really did not. But as someone called out, seeing something, their eyes detected it as well -- or...well, somewhat. They'd taken their glasses off and had them in their beach bag, safely in their case so as not to lose them while swimming, thus their vision wasn't great, but... "That bump over there, yeah?" They moved closer, only absently noting the fact that the guy who'd called out was big, especially compared to themselves, but that was hardly anything new -- Lucis was a rather short person overall, especially in the circles they seemed to frequent, with most who went into more physical arts being...well. Big. "You going to dive in and take a closer look? Shouldn't go out there alone..." But they weren't going to be the one to dive in first. They'd go with, but not....

Well, s**t. He'd... well, he hadn't exactly gotten his wish, because nobody in their right mind wished for trouble to be there, but at least he was actually seeing trouble where there was some, and not just... seeing things. Zev sighed a bit and continued staring at it for a long moment, evaluating what to do. "Yeah," he finally answered, glancing back at Lucius with a wry smile. "Someone's gotta do it. I'm a kickboxer, so I should hope I could figure out what needs to be done when it comes to whatever this thing is, eh? And it'll be nice to have the company. You look like you can hold your own. Am I right about that? My name is Zev, by the way."

Lucis couldn't help but let out a huff of amusement. "Lucis, assistant professor of kinesiology at DCU. I've dabbled a bit in kickboxing." A bit. Sure. "I can certainly hold my own on land, I won't deny that much. Which isn't as common as I'd like to think given how... strange this city gets. In the water...well." They let out another laugh. "Still, two against one is decent odds. Let's get in there before someone else decides to get curious and dives in like we're going to, mm?" They didn't wait now -- knowing that the guy was going to go in, they might as well get in. They're small in comparison, after all, they needed a bit of a head start.

Dabbled in kickboxing, huh? Well. Clearly Zev may have found himself a nice new sparring partner. Now wouldn't that be fun? "Yeah, I'm sure the water will be different, but you're right, better move before some dumb kid thinks he's hot s**t," Zev said with a small huff, jogging out to the shoreline and wading in. "Nice to meet you, by the way. Even if the circumstances are totally freaky." He flashed a little grin and kept moving forward, out into the deeper water, watching the shadow and keeping an eye on Lucius as well. He wanted to make sure the both of them made it through this safely. But perhaps it wasn't meant to be, because between one stroke and the next, he was being dragged under by the shadow without a chance to even inhale. s**t, s**t, s**t. He frantically kicked and clawed, but he wasn't going anywhere but down. Not anymore.

Kid, huh? Lucis kept the amusement to themselves -- clearly they had a few years on Zev, but right then it was more important to keep the younger kids safe, so they kicked out into the water with their legs providing most of the force getting them out there. Coming to a stop, he looked around only to hear the splashing of someone being pulled under -- a deceivably quiet sound, truly -- before turning and seeing (or not seeing, really) the man going down, down, down into the water. Lucis, being Lucis, took only long enough to take a quick breath before they were diving, legs kicking to push down, movements frantic and determined. No one was going to get hurt on their watch!

Zev felt a hand grab his own, and on the first tug towards the surface, whatever had grabbed hold of him let go and he desperately wanted to sigh in relief, something, anything to do with breathing, but at the moment, they were still deep underwater. He just held on as well as he could, both with his hand and his lungs, until he finally broke the surface again and coughed and spluttered, grateful he'd managed to hold on until then. He didn't want to have to go to the hospital for inhaling water. "Thank you," he wheezed, eyes still shut tight as he barely kept his head above water at this point. "s**t. Hope that... scared it away."

They reached and reached and reached until fingers wrapped around and pulled and they both broke for air, legs kicking underneath and well, no, they were not stopping here, hand remaining on the other and tugging, moving to shore. (Thank goodness it was easy enough to move in the water, or rather, move weight in the water. There was no way they would be able to simply pull anyone on land, but in the water? They could at least get both of them to shallower water.) "Well, scared away or not, it's gone for the moment," they said, breathing heavily as they moved, which was not easy by any stretch of the imagination, but... "I'd say we should tell the police about this but they'd never take anything like this seriously..."

Zev stumbled a little once they hit the shallow water, struggling a bit to get up on shore, but eventually he got ta point where he just collapsed on the ground face down, head turned to the side. "They sure ********' don't," he groaned, rolling his eyes. "But...Whatever. Thanks, again. And, uh, hey.... I do a lot of kickboxing at this place called Lee's. If you wanna show up sometime, I mean."

Lucis coughed, making sure Zev wasn't going to drift away before sitting on their own a**, catching their breath before laughing. "I'll have to see if I can manage to come by, then. I'm sure you'd put up more of a fight against me than against that thing, mm?" When all else fails...laugh it off.
