Well what a predicament. Vilasini found herself hanging upside down by a thread…quite literally as she was dangling from a top branch of a tree where a menzuri had decided dto make its nest. Thankfully the crystalized spider wasn’t currently around and Sini hoped that meant it was an older web of sorts that had simply been abandoned and forgotten over time. The young hybrid had been traveling with her guardian towards a village nestled between Neued and Ast when she had decided to make use of her free time to go and gather some herbs. Sini had hoped to get something special for some evening tea when Rek returned from hunting but here she was waiting to be served as dinner herself!

“Do you think you can swap places with me?” Sini noticed one of the smaller bug creatures scuttling away from the nest, its beady eyes staring at her when it paused for one moment as she spoke before it continued on into the darkness of the deeper jungle. “Okay, fair enough. It’s not like it’s the best deal, I ‘spose.” Sini let out a frustrated sigh before blowing at a stray piece of bang that was also in her face. Closing her eyes tightly against the shimmering light that also decided to flicker in through the heavy foliage of the jungle, the hybrid took a moment to calm her racing heart so that she could truly think about the situation. She had been hanging here for a bit so she doubted that there was actually any menzuri around unless they were like napping or something….did menzuri even do that? Sini frowned at the thought before opening her eyes again so that she could study the situation. If anything she would at least try to swing her way out of this first before giving up. There was no way she would stay like this forever! Determination filled her gaze as she started to swing, the threads wrapping around her one leg swaying as she forced her body to move back and forth. Maybe if the webbing was old enough she could break it and then tumble towards the ground. There were several vines so if she reached out at the same time then she could just make it into a performance! A very dangerous and crucial one but a performance nonetheless!

It was not an unusual day for Doesina. Wander around the city and towns bored. Wander around the wilderness bored. Heike was taking her sweet time at whatever it was she was doing with the Alkidike. Maybe she should be taking this as a sign something might have gone wrong. It had never occurred to her before. The Elaria was often unconcerned about things, just drifting through life like a feather on the breeze. She'd never known much trouble in her youth and had lead a pretty quiet life, despite the history of her race suggesting otherwise. She had rarely known fear or worry when others were concerned. She was feeling it now. It was strange. She had travelled too far. It was time to make her way back to the small village. Her whole purpose here had been for her cousin and she had let herself get distracted. No more. She could always make one last stop at Neued before they left.

Now that she was out here, in the sounds of nature she was more used to, a smile was back on Doesina's lips and the worries pushed to the back of her brain. It was probably fine. Everything worked out.

She was oblivious to anything above her until the sound of creaking branches made her look up. Pale eyes already wide went wider and she raised a hand in a salute.

"Hello," the Elaria called up at the hanging woman. "Is this some sort of special training?"

Sini thought practicing flips over and over was a dizzying experience but surely she had been mistaken. The hybrid found herself closing and opening her eyes over and over again as she tried to stop the local fauna from blurring all around her. The last twenty swings had only resulted in twisting her around, the petite acrobat haphazardly swinging back and forth as she kept adding more momentum by swinging her arms and legs. At one point it felt like her ankle was going to pop off but the pressure seemed to be helping since it was also straining the webbing. Just a bit more, Sini! She encouraged herself before sudden noise caught her attention. "Huh?" Blinking with surprise Sini looked down at the strange Aishan and her lips twisted into a confused expression. The stranger wasn't an Alkidike so....an Elaria? She hadn't seen any earthlings like that and she vaguely remembered Rek talking about the gray skin and curved antenna of the foreign Aishan race. But what was the other woman doing here? Not that Sini had much time to contemplate such matters as she remembered her current predicament.

"Yeah." She found herself calling down with a strained laugh and an attempt at an upside down wave. "It's the best type of training. I call it the get down quick or feed the menzuri." The tease was a bit rushed and Sini felt like she could have gotten a wittier response out if she hadn't been so stressed. Still, there was some relief that there was someone else out here in the jungle. Maybe she could ask for help? "Actually can you..." She started before the webbing decided at that very moment to finally snap. An 'eep' left the hybrid's lips as she desperately grabbed for the first vine that she could find before swinging right into the Elaria's path. Even though her fingers had grasped at the vine it only did so much to slow her fall as she tried to twist away from the Elaria. Thankfully Sini kept a tight grip and found herself swinging back and forth as the vine kept swaying a few feet above the ground. Dizziness though was definitely still a thing as Sini tried to stop herself but kept swinging back towards the stranger, one hand slowly releasing from the vine to reach out for whatever else she could latch onto instead.

Doesina's eyes went a bit wide at the explanation given. Not that she was dense, but who was she to say this wasn't indeed some sort of training ritual. People had all sorts of ways to strengthen themselves. Fear or danger wasn't as uncommon as it may first appear if you really stopped and dug about in your memory. At least for her, having grown up in a town where everyone was a warrior in some shape or form, she'd come across many who took things to the extreme when it came to training. She knew some who sought out Wirenth as sparring partners, feeding off the rush of andrenaline from the danger. Not her cup of tea, but who was she to judge what worked for someone else? A simple target in an open field was enough for her. She'd like to live to full adulthood, after all.

"Yeah. I suppose real danger is a good way to practice being in danger." Oh. That was a joke. Of course that was a joke. She really needed to broaden her horizons away from crazy women who chased after dangerous predators cause regular training was too boring. Why would an Earthling out themselves in such harm when they had so many more options available for them. Turning hobbies into a career while you were still young was such a wild concept to her.

The Elaria grinned, trying to hide her misunderstanding by pretending she'd known it was in good humor all along. This woman would probably want to get down, right. Doesina reached for the dagger on her belt, prepared to quickly scale the tree and cut the thread when the thread did the work for her. Instead, her arms shot up in front of her to catch the falling woman. But yet again her attempts to help were eclipsed by nature. She dropped one arm, leaving the other suspended in the air to aim a few pokes at the swinging girl. She couldn't help the amused giggle that escaped her throat at the whole situation.

"Sorry. Still need my help. Still a few more feet to go."

Sini simply opened and closed her mouth at the response. Had the Elaria taken her...seriously? A groan left her lips before she realized that the Elaria was grinning and then moving to help her. Had she simply been messing with her in return? Though she supposed she deserved that for giving such a sassy retort to the original question. Sini would have laughed at the thought if her she wasn't feeling so breathless from hanging upside down and swinging back and forth like a pendulum. Maybe someone could use her to look for answers! If I stay towards the left then that's a yes and right is a no...heh. The joke was bad but it was enough to keep Sini from sheer panic as she tried to cling to consciousness, the awkward position slowly getting to her now that she was too tangled to move.

And then she was dropping and bouncing again as the thread kept her from tumbling completely to the ground. "Oof. Swing me later to ask your question. A bit too dizzy at the moment." Mumbled Sini without really thinking as she was poked by the Elaria. Her fingers slowly started to pry away from the vine as she tugged against the remainder of the webbing. "Is it....cuttable?" She asked as she gave one last futile kick, swinging in circles once more before coming back to a stop before the Elaria. A sudden tension in the webbing also gave her pause, the hybrid's silver gaze widening as she slowly stopped spinning enough to glance further up into the deeper area of the webbing. Oh no...no no.

"You may uh want to cut me quickly before we get company." Sini managed, adrenaline making her snap back into focus as she stilled her body afraid to tug against the webbing now that there was actually something moving about in the trees above them.

Ah, yes. Of course. Hanging upside down would render someone quite dizzy, wouldn't it? Doesina hadn't really been thinking any further than what her eyes were seeing before her. Not much ever seemed to worry her. Not even in the face of obvious danger would her smile ever drop. Being what she was made her feel almost invincible. Small for an Aishan, she was still a lot bigger than a lot of other people and had the knowledge of different weapon use under her belt if anything ever threatened her. What did she really have to fear from the world around her?

That thought never wavered even as she looked up, even as the smile did waver a little and a more serious expression took over her face. Okay, the fun was now over if the creatures who had spun these threads was in fact still around.

The Elaria eyed the branch and than the thread keeping the other girl swinging above the ground. It had been many years since she'd been in the forests of Jauhar and she was not a stranger to the Menzuri anymore. She'd not known them to be easily cuttable. Or at all. Not that she'd given it more than a few seconds of trying before abandoning whatever had gotten stuck in the webs. Even if it was a few dreads of her hair.

"Don't have much of a choice, do we? I can try to break the branch if I can't." Doesina asked, now glancing at the trunk of the tree. Making sure none of the creatures were hiding on it. She gave a circle of the tree, looking it up and down before returning to her original position, dagger now held in one hand. "You can hold onto me if you want. Might keep you from swinging too much, if nothing else." Dagger between her teeth, the young Elaria ascended the trunk, finding what footholds she could to remain upright while her upper half leaned towards the other girl. She began to saw away at the tough thread, every so often glancing up to make sure she was not attracting too much attention. She tried to keep her movements as minimal as she could, her hope in this being easy dashing with each movement of the blade.

"Uh...How hard do you think these things would be to fight?" she asked, watching some leaves above rustling suspiciously. Crystal bodies couldn't be very easy to puncture with a blade, so she'd always managed to avoid a confrontation. Didn't want to risk figuring out firsthand if they really were made of crystal.

Either she had encountered a super confident worrier or someone who wasn't bothered by much at all in the world. Vilasini probably would have been more amused and eager to throw around jokes if there wasn't the imposing presence of something in the nearby trees. Just the thought of a menzuri scuttling towards them made a shiver creep up the normally relaxed girl's spine and she couldn't help trying to wiggle a bit more, just to see if she could fully break free. Maybe Aisha wouldn't be so awful to believe in if she could just help Vilasini get out of this mess. Hear that? I'm no Aishan warrior but I'd at least send you flowers or....whatever Alkidikes usually give you. She managed before blinking back at the Elaria.

"Bre-break the branch." Vilasini repeated before nodding quickly. Even if she looked ridiculous with a branch trailing behind her it was better than the alternative! "I'll take it. Just get me out of the tree and we can hobble away and figure out the rest. I don't know about you but I'm not an expert in fighting menzuri....or honestly anything at all. So unless you're some super warrior then I wouldn't recommend trying the hero act today." Her silver gaze was bright as she pondered the situation. She was much more of an entertainer, an evasive sort and not a fighter at all. "Is it giving at all?" Vilasini asked after a moment before the next question gave her pause.

"Uhh...well my father of sorts always saves a few special curses for whenever he talks about the menzuri. If you avoid the poison then there's the whole crystal body issue." Vilasini found herself talking quicker as her nerves continued rising with each moment she was still suspended by the webbing. At first she had thought or rather hoped it was an abandoned area but now the area seemed to be too quiet save for their conversation and the soft sound of the Elaria trying to break the webbing. "Maybe we should do the branch idea if you can't break the web." Vilasini suggested as she pulled against the webbing once more, her muscles burning as she tried her hardest to try and strain the web so that it would snap. Her heart was racing by this point despite her company and she couldn't help a gasp as she heard more scuttling that seemed to be getting louder by the second. "If there's more than one we're so screwed." She admitted as she glanced to the other girl. "Just leave and save yourself if you need to, but we should leave soon."

Fear was not a common emotion for the Elaria to feel. Her mother always joked that her daughter would have faced down a pack of Wirenth without a second thought to anything else. Doesina's confidence in her abilities was well beyond the borderline into stupidity sometimes. Though right now she wasn't being stupid without a reason. She couldn't exactly just leave the girl to the mercy of the Menzuri.

Doesina looked up at the branch, not too far above her head. The thread wasn't giving way at all. She hadn't expected it to, but it was worth a try, right?

She glanced back down at the hanging hybrid, a small smile on her face, still sawing away at the thread. "Nope. Not an expert at all. Only been here a few years." She knew some Elaria had come here to live with the Alkidike, try to fix relations with them. She was sure of those Elaria had been raised here, brought back when their mothers returned to ask Elzira for a child. Glancing back up at the branch, she stopped, pulling the dagger back closer to her. "Alright. Branch it is." Dagger back between her teeth, Doesina scurried up the tree, holding onto the branch with one hand while she held onto another branch with the other, pulling down on it with all her might. "Not leaving you behind," she said between the dagger, as a loud crack could be heard and her balance tilted towards the ground sharply. Had she not been holding onto the other branch, she would have fallen completely.

In all honestly Vilasini would have never expected an Elaria to be her savior, but she could not deny the relief that bloomed in her chest when the other woman refused to leave her. The loud crack was like an explosion of relief and the dancer found herself moving quickly, her feet now solid on the ground despite the weight dragging behind her. "I truly owe you one." If that even covered it! The Elaria had saved her life! Vilasini's silver gaze was teary as she glanced around, her breath hitching in her throat as she heard more clicking in the distance. No wonder Rek always curses the menzuri! Why had one even been all the way out here? She bit her bottom lip before glancing back for the Elaria. "Can you get down easily? I would offer to help...but..." She glanced backwards at the sticky web still tied to her legs and dragging the branch along. "I'm afraid I could accidentally stick you to me."

"No-not that I would mind getting stuck to you for a bit! You saved my life...." She added in a rush, a deep flush covering her cheeks as she continued to ramble while trying her best to not pace too much for fear that she would tangle herself up even more than she currently was with the branch behind her. "It's just not the best situation for it. I'm usually quite evasive but then I didn't see this webbing and....well I'm a mess." She swallowed and shook her head with an embarrassed chuckle escaping her lips. "We should probably hurry before the menzuri decide they want to eat a hybrid for lunch."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:58 pm

The Elaria released the branch instantly, hoping the other girl would be able to land safely on her own. She wasn't exactly in the position to help, hanging from the tree as she was herself. Not that she was stuck. Not by far. In fact, Doesina thought it was quite nice up here. If you ignored the rustling in the leaves above her, slowly creeping closer. She glanced down and sheathed her dagger so she could wave before beginning her slow and careful scoot down the tree. "Don't worry! I got this!"

On the ground once more, she brushed at her clothes, picking a bit of bark off the front of her slit skirt. Climbing trees was nothing when you spent most of your life outside. As soon as she'd arrived here so many years ago, the first thing she'd wanted to do was climb to the very top of the tallest tree she could find.

Pale eyes crinkled in amusement at the comment. Placing her hands behind her back, Doesina leaned forward a little bit. There was still plenty of distance between the two, her body having twisted around the trunk as she climbed down. "I don't think I'd mind being stuck to you, either," she answered playfully, not exactly taking the compliment all that seriously at all. Just a bit of fun wordplay. She liked fun wordplay. "But yes, I agree. Leaving the area might be wise." Suddenly she stopped smiling and stood blinking at the other girl, really seeing her for the first time. "Oh! You are a hybrid, aren't you?" The smile returned to her face as she straightened back up, taking the first steps away from the dangerous tree. She'd met some up in Ast, but most of them hadn't been too eager to let an Elaria come close. "Do you need any help with, uh..." she waved a finger around the other girl's feet, this?"

Thankfully despite her situation Vilasini was still able to stick a landing even if it was slightly awkward because of her recently acquired accessory. Though her cheeks only flushed more whenever the Elaria flirted back with her, Vilasini's gaze widening before she let out a flustered laugh. "Well, maybe that would be better if there wasn't any menzuri involved." Still! She had not expected to find an Elaria to be so friendly! Vilasini felt her heart flutter for a moment before she bent down to try to tug the branch up into her arms, the webbing making things a little tighter than expected whenever it stuck to her exposed flesh. It felt stiff and uncomfortable but she knew that if they could make it to any type of water that was away from here she could try to wash it away....right? There was a type of plant...maybe that would be best.

"I am a hybrid. You're an Elaria, right? My parents were shifter and alkidike hybrids themselves and so I carried on after them. Not much Alkidike training for me 'cause of that but that's okay because I prefer dancing and acrobatics." Vilasini explained as she hobbled forward, trying to get as much distance from the rustling in the trees behind them as possible. "Strange to see an Elaria in this area though." She continued as she peeked back towards the stranger with a small smile. Would it be rude to ask the story? Maybe, but did Vilasini usually care about such things? Not really as long as the other person didn't push her away then she would gladly keep asking questions! If they wanted to know more about her then she would always talk about her own past too even if her guardian always chastised her for talking way too much.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 27, 2023 3:50 pm

Following easily into step beside the other woman, Doesina couldn't resist a few giggles at the awkward way she was walking, trying her best to stifle them behind a hand or closed lips. The last thing she wanted to do was come off as rude, as if she were laughing at the hybrid's misfortune. Which, of course, she kind of was.

"I'm sorry," she said quickly, waving a hand in front of her face, an unintentional snort escaping, making her clamp both hands over her mouth. "I don't mean to make fun." Swallowing hard, she removed her hands, lowering them to swing casually by her sides. She was under control. A lot of people often got the wrong idea when it came to how easily she laughed at everything, thinking she was either too ditzy and stupid or intentionally trying to make them feel bad about the situation. That was never her intention. She'd be the first to laugh at herself had it happened to her, as well.

"So a second generation hybrid? That's really cool!" And she meant it, as odd as it must sound coming from the mouth of an Elaria. But Elaria made hybrids sometimes, themselves. Some of her friends back on Yael were half Yaeli. Whenever Doesina would be out in the woods, hunting or just exploring. she'd make time to visit with them. "Yes, I am. I came here to find my wayward cousin and now I'm just passing time while she does her thing for a bit." She waved a hand at the mention of training. It was always odd to think of how Earthlings didn't all train like her and her Sisters did. That they had so much choice in what they wanted to do with their life. Not that she disliked training. It was just...As natural as breathing. Just something they did, no different than saying good morning. "Being able to decide what you want to do must be nice, though. Being half Alkidike shouldn't mean you have to live how we do if it's not what you want."

"It's fine." A giggle escaped her own lips at the laughter of the Elaria. "I would be laughing my head off as well, still am even if I am the one stuck in this situation." She sashayed her hips as she shifted the branch in her arms. "Think it would make a good dancing partner at least? I'm preparing for the long road just in case I can't unstick it." Sini joked, grinning back at the Elaria before nearly tripping again and having to catch herself. Probably should focus on the road and not the party. She chastised herself though it was hard not to steal peeks towards the Elaria. The other woman was a lot prettier and far less intimidating than the stories that Sini had heard from others. Out of all the things she had expected from this situation, the hybrid had not expected her first Elaria encounter! She would have at least tried to look a bit more presentable before getting caught by a menzuri web, all she had on now was her basic training outfit made of tight leathers and now well menzuri webbing and some clinging crystal leaves that clicked together and chimed as she walked forward.

"Is it? I'll take the compliment then!" Replied Sini with a grin, thankful that the Elaria was completely different from everything that she had heard. Surely not many Elaria were actually like this from what Sini had gathered, but she was happy that it was her luck to run into an oddball like herself. "I see! Well I hope you've enjoyed Jahaur so far and if not then I'll gladly show you around more....as long as menzuri aren't involved." Sini joked before her expression shifted thoughtfully at the other girl's commentary. It was very true, wasn't it? "I think it has pros and cons. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to know what you're getting into from the get go, ya know? Deciding on a path was hard at first because I honestly couldn't settle on anything, but then I met this really cool dancer and thought why not? I love bringing happiness to others so I decided to become a performer. But thank you, I do enjoy that I had the freedom the decide on my own path in the end despite my mixed heritage. Maybe if I had known more about the Aishan way things would be different, but I'm happy as is." Sini nodded before pausing, her attention on the gentle sound of flowing water nearby. "Looks like we've made it! Care to help a girl down towards the water? I'm not confident in my footing while carrying this around..." She smiled sheepishly towards Doesina as the water came into view, the sight of the river a blessing for Sini in this moment.

"It'll be a funny story to tell later on," the Elaria remarked, walking with her hands behind her back and a giggle every so often, infected by the mood of the hybrid with her. Heike never laughed with her like this. Never really cracked a smile, for that matter. Doesina never begrudged her the unfriendliness, she had a lot on her mind to deal with, what with the loss of her mother. She didn't know what she'd do if she lost her own mother. She still lived at home, just the two of them. Or it had been that way when she'd left over a year ago. "And maybe you could dance with it, if you swung it in a circle and hopped over it."

The extra movement of the other woman did to draw Doesina's head downwards, a small smile still on her lips. She swung her own hips wide one way, than the other, in a mimic of her companion, smile growing wider in delight. It was much more fun being with someone else so like her.

"It is a compliment! I know others would think differently, especially my own Sisters. But life is too wonderful to be grumpy all the time about everything, right?" She raised both her hands at that, holding them above her head to take in all the beautiful nature around her. She knew she was a bit of a strange one. It always made her uncomfortable back home, being so happy to share Yael with the Earthlings and visiting with the Elaria hybrids who lived nearby. She never understood all the negative feelings. Maybe being around it was why she choose to project so much laughter and positivity as she could. They all might look different, but deep down to their core, they were all the same and wanted the same things out of life.

"I can teach you. If you want. Maybe not about fighting, but if you're curious about anything, I like questions." She stopped by the water's edge, looking down at the water before turning back. Leaning forward a bit, hands behind her back, Doesina adopted a sly smile as she asked, "Do you want me to hold the branch or you?"

Glad you think so.” Vilasini could only grin as they continued along before the advice had her pause. “Hmm…only one way to find out, right?” She playfully held out the branch as far as she could, the hybrid much more comfortable now that the menzuri nest was far enough behind them, and playfully tried to swing it out before jumping over the webbing and laughing again. “Almost! It’s a bit too awkward.” She teased as she bundled the branch back up in her arms, the webbing still pulling slightly at her skin where it was stuck along her arms now as well. At least she still had enough freedom to sashay along with her new friend as they approached the river’s edge.

I love that opinion.” Vilasini beamed towards Doesina as she was in full agreement with those words. She had her own period of depression before when she had lost others in her life but now she knew that she simply wanted to enjoy life the best that she could and share happiness with others. That was why she had picked up entertaining others through dance in the first place. “My guardian is a bit grumpy, but I think life is best lived with a smile not a pout.” It was honestly amazing to be with someone who shared such a similar outlook and even more so considering that it was an Elaria who matched such energy! Talk about a wonderful twist! It definitely made getting caught by a menzuri worth it since she had such a fun encounter so far, minus you know almost getting eaten by the crystal spiders.

I like talking so I can definitely find some questions then. I was thinking of learning how to toss knives for performances so maybe I could look into those…doubt they would save me from a menzuri, but it would be nice to have something at least.” Admitted Sini before the sly question nearly had her stumbling forward, a flush quickly blossoming along her cheeks. “Are you coming into the water with me?” She found herself returning the question as she tried to regain her composure. “If not then I don’t think it would be smart to simply toss me into the water so maybe just holding the branch is best.” She smiled towards Doesina. “Cause if you pick me up in those beautiful arms of yours I’m sure we’ll both actually get stuck together until the water gets rid of this webbing.
