Quote: The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it. Meninx was trying to take this whole Knight business more seriously. Was trying to figure out what he had to do to scratch the perpetual itch in his mind, in his heart. To lessen the hand around his neck and figure out what he was doing so wrong that was making him feel so bad.
He didn’t know how long he was supposed to look for an answer before it fell out of the sky, but–
Oh, things were falling out of the sky.
Meteors, sure. Strangely colored. Enough to make him stare, but not enough to really unnerve him. He didn’t know enough about astrology to be alarmed. Besides, there was always an explanation. Given how many other weird things happened, should this really count for anything, anyway?
Besides, it was a little relaxing, to just be able to lose himself for a few seconds, looking up at the sky.
He crossed his arms over his chest and looked up into the sky and, for the first time in a little while, just breathed.
Just took a moment for himself.
Just let himself get caught up in something other than work or trying to make other people happy.

The sky was doing things again. Leona was starting to utterly mistrust any sort of celestial happening, and squinted at the meteor shower with a dubious expression. The fact that there was again an order aura…one that felt rather similar to the last one…
She had to investigate. If the dude was going to throw himself into traffic again…well. She supposed that she should stop him.
And of course...it was the same one. Leona let out a loud, heavy sigh. “Seriously? Shouldn’t you learn to not stare at the sky? Didn’t it almost kill you once before? I really. Think you should keep your gaze on the ground or like, anywhere but the sky. Maybe get yourself a wide brimmed hat so you don’t get distracted and you know. Try to off yourself again?”
Leona’s words were only half joking, and she was silently debating with herself if she should just use her magic, just get it over with. It would be better than trying to stop him later on, she was sure.
“I really…worry about you dude. You’re supposed to be my enemy, but all I can do is worry about you.”

Meninx bristled as soon as he felt the aura, as soon as she spoke--as soon as he realized it was her.
She hadn’t done anything wrong, it’s not like she was the problem. It was just how she kept catching him at strange, vulnerable moments.
He felt his face heat up a bit as he looked down at her.
“Can you stop saying that? I already told you that’s not what was going on. I’m just standing here.” He seemed defensive and crossed his arms over his chest. “I was just taking a breather. You don’t have to worry about me or anything. What are you doing out here, are you looking for Knights?”

Leona shook her head. “Not at all. You’re actually the first Knight I’ve ever met. And I’ll say for a fact that our meeting was…intense. I’m glad to know that you’re not like. At risk or anything but. If you decide that you are I’m more than happy to just use my magic on you again. I’ve decided that I hate fireworks now, so. That’s new.”
Her eyes flickered up to the sky again and she swallowed, watching as the meteors continued to fall, rainbows streaking across the sky. It would have been beautiful if she didn’t feel so…
Repulsed by the idea of anything up there.
“Anyway. Are you okay? You’re taking a breather…is life rough? Wanna talk about it?” Obviously Leona wasn’t any kind of a therapist, but she was known for having some deep conversations in between cutting her fudge. And she already had a history with this Knight. So. There wasn’t much harm in asking.

It didn’t surprise him that he was the first Knight she’d met, or that he was the only one she’d run into. He’d been having a hard time finding anyone else, himself.
…Even if he was pretty unfamiliar with whatever she was, too.
“I don’t think there’s anything to talk about,” he admitted, and he wasn’t sure that he would have talked to her if he was going to talk to anyone. Seemed like a bad idea, to let your ‘enemy’ in on your problems.
“Just have a lot going on. You know. Life.”
That was enough, right? He didn’t need to tell her about how he was overworked, how he was lonely, how he felt lost or uncertain. He didn’t open up easily; even if he had wanted to talk about it, he wouldn’t even have known where to start.
“You said we were enemies. You don’t seem like the sort who’s going out and picking fights, though. What’s your whole deal?”

“Well, if you insist. Still though. It helps to talk about your issues. Otherwise the pile up and you know. You explode.” Leona shrugged and watched him for a moment, nodding. “Life sucks. I get that. But, as for the us being enemies, it’s just what I was told you know. Watch out for the White Moon ‘cause they’ll hurt you and all that jazz so. I watched out but the only thing I found was someone who’s lonely and gets like. Literally hypnotized by fireworks.”
She shot him a look. “Not very terrifying if you ask me. But. I don’t try to pick fights, that’s very true. I won’t deny that um. I have shot my magic off at people without meaning to several times so. I suppose I am an instigator.” She shrugged. “It happens. And nobody’s too angry with me. And you. You I had to break you out of whatever thoughts had you, and I won’t apologize. So if that makes you think I’m violent and a fight picker…so be it. Have everyone fear me for I am mighty.”

Meninx felt foolish again and he crossed his arms a little tighter over his chest. His brother was the one who was more likely to get hypnotized by fireworks, or ‘checking out’ and he just felt foolish for getting so sloppy.
“I didn’t say I thought you were violent,” he countered, because he hadn’t. He wasn’t going to admit that she’d saved him from anything, but he certainly wasn’t going to criticize her choice since it had ended with him coming to his senses before he got himself hurt.
“Why are you powering up? I don’t know a lot of people like you. What’s your story in all of this?”

“I’m powering up because I think it’s interesting. And because the cat who awakened me was really cute and the just made me feel like I could be important.” Leona shrugged, watching him. “You? You must have a story too. Unless you don’t feel like sharing and that’s perfectly fine…” She shrugged again. “I dunno. We’re not supposed to be friends, I do know that much for a fact but…I enjoy making friends with people so.”
Leona gave a sad little smile and tilted her head to the side. “Just. Don’t hate me okay? I don’t enjoy the feeling of being hated. And that’s from the deep, gooey honest part of me.”
It wasn’t really an answer but. It was the best she could give.

Well. She had a point. It was interesting. But he hadn’t had a cat to talk to, he didn’t have anyone that made him feel important. Mostly, he felt irrelevant. Uncertain. He was trying to help people but recently it felt like he was the one who needed help.
Constantly.
…But his pride wouldn’t let him accept any of it.
“If you don’t do anything worth hating, I’m not going to hate you. I don’t have anything against you right now. I don’t have any story or anything.” He didn’t really even sound dismissive, just tired. “...Just me, here. I’m not the best at making friends. Most people are better off having not met me. I have a habit of rubbing people the wrong way. And it’s not like I have a lot of free time, anyway.”
…What was he supposed to say, what was his story?
He looked back up at the meteors for a second but they had lost their appeal. He felt tired, though, and it showed.
“I don’t know. Maybe we’ll run into each other again and I’ll be in a chattier mood next time.” Reluctantly, he extended his hand. “Meninx,” he introduced, because if they were going to run into each other again, or share stories, he should at least know who she was.
He just hoped it wouldn’t be a problem if she knew who he was, too.

Leona watched him for a moment, half wanting to keep putting pressure on him to talk, and half wanting to just let him keep what pride he had but she gave a small smile, taking his hand. “Leona. I hope we can run into one another again, and I hope that life gets better for you. You deserve to have something go well for you, and I’m really proud of you that you keep pushing on. Sometimes that’s the hardest part.”
She gave him a firm shake of the hand and then pulled away. “Just be kind to yourself. You deserve it.”
With a small nod of her head she turned to go and walked a few feet before looking back at him and pursing her lips. “Go get something nice. Like ice cream or something you like to eat. Treat yourself tonight, Meninx. It’ll be good for you.”
She was sure going to do it for herself. She deserved it too.
