Quote: Disappearances (14) : People are missing. Maybe they’re people you know, maybe you’ve just heard about it on the news. They’re just disappearing. In front of you one second, gone the next, sucked into some between-space. Into some hole that flickers out of sight once it’s swallowed them up. Maybe you got sucked in–right into a strange strange black expanse, with no access to anyone else or any exits. The pull would have been magnetic, almost unavoidable. Some might escape, but maybe you didn’t. Electronics don't work and characters cannot power down. There’s no way to reach the outside world. You might feel the sensation of creatures following you, you might run into obstacles or strange environments in the darkness. While you are in this strange location you may feel hungry but will not starve to death; you may feel tired but you will not need to sleep. Maybe you were lucky and got sucked in with someone. Maybe you’re trapped there and run into someone and team up. One thing is for sure, though–once you’re here, you can’t get out on your own. Characters who get sucked into the strange between-space will not be able to participate in the ORP immediately but will have an opportunity to join partway through so if this is something you’re interested in, please keep your eye on that! If you have questions on if something is permissible, you can PM The Space Cauldron to ask!) Tristan was on another patrol, feeling quite pleased with herself. Gewn was back at the apartment doing who knew what, and she was honestly looking for any old friends who didn’t know that she had gotten through everything safely. Dagon mostly but.
But it wasn’t Dagon that she ended up seeing ahead, it was Starlight once again, and the very sight of him made the Corrupt absolutely beam. “Starlight! Hi! Hi!” She ran over to him and hugged the Squire before he could refuse it, and then reaching into her subspace pocket, drew out a small package, clearly from A&H Bakery. “I was hoping to find someone to share this with, and you’re obviously a fantastic someone! I found this amazing little bakery, I’m half wondering if I knew it back…you know. Before all of this but. They have the most amazing pastries! I grabbed a few eclairs if you’d want to share with me? We can take a little walk and just chat and hang out again?”
It was a lot. And she was a lot, she knew that but.
It was just so good to see friends.

The sight of Tristan was strange enough, but then she was hugging him, and then she suddenly had a package that he recognized, and–he probably shouldn’t have looked so flustered to see a box from his bakery. Well, Arias’, and Nick’s, but–he lived with them! He worked there!
He hoped he wasn’t too suspicious and he tried to feign ignorance. He smiled and nodded–that was a good start. He was glad the star charm he'd been holding hadn't accidentally poked her.
“Hi, Tristan,” he said quickly, “That sounds like a great idea, yeah. That sounds good. How have you been? Are you taking care of yourself?”

She nodded, leading him over to a park bench and sitting down, opening the small box of pastries and taking one before handing it over to Starlight. “I’m doing okay! The best I can, I suppose. I’m definitely taking care of myself so that’s not an issue. What about you? I think about you often. Are you doing okay? Is life going well?”
Tristan took a bite of her eclair just to make sure that Starlight would get a moment to talk, and utterly melted with the taste.
“I tell you. This bakery is the most amazing I’ve ever tasted…not that I remember my old life before I was powered but. In this new life of mine…it’s the greatest.”
It really was, and she enjoyed every bite. Every bite of everything she ate from there…and honestly…Tristan had been frequenting the place.

Starlight sat down next to her quickly and tried not to act too flighty about any of it. He placed his hands on his knees and sucked in a breath to try and calm himself. He managed a quick smile and tried to to be too interested in how much she seemed to be enjoying it. It made his heart pound to see how she was so earnest about all of it.
He didn’t want to think that Chaos could be good for someone, but–
She really didn’t seem unhappy, and she really wasn’t causing trouble.
But who was she? She’d come in to get these–maybe even today. He could have seen her, could have talked to her!
“Well–it sounds like it, I’m glad you like those,” he said, and quickly cleared his throat. “They–they look really nice. And I'm doing well. I was–I think about you often, too. I haven’t really been going out much, it’s been…”
He sucked in a breath and then slowly let it out. “I don’t know. A little lonely. I’ve just been…Careful, I don’t know. I guess I’m just figuring some things out. It’s not bad, it’s just. You know. I guess I haven’t sat down and took some time to clear out my head in a while.”

“You should keep going out! Starlight, you’re so important you know. You mean the world to a lot of people, I’m sure! I know we’re not on the same side of things, but you mean the world to me, and every time I see you I get so happy that you’re still here.”
Tristan smiled and took another bite of her pastry, sighing softly. “No, I do get it. It’s easy to want to be careful especially after a friend goes and abandons you…I’m so sorry that I did, I…I just had to follow my heart…I regret hurting you but…this was really the right choice for me.”
Hopefully he wouldn't ever be faced with such a choice…it did suck. Being pulled in different directions…but…that was the nature of the war. There were two sides and choices had to be made.
“I hope that you can clear it, you know. I hope that you can find what makes you happy, Starlight. You deserve that so much.”

Starlight hesitated when she said he was important, and he was a bit reluctant to let himself think that he meant the world to a lot of people. He didn’t really have very many friends, but she was sweet, and–
He felt all jumbled, listening to he talk. It would have been so much easier if she was still in the White Moon with him, but…she did seem happy. He couldn’t be upset with her for that. And she hadn’t attacked him, hardly even seemed like she’d changed, even.
“I’m not unhappy,” he admitted, and then found himself confessing, “I did have hurt feelings when you left. It’s not like I was mad at you. Maybe I was just feeling sorry for myself. I’m used to people leaving. It’s not–I mean, I was a foster kid. Maybe still am, technically, I don’t know. You get used to people being in your life for a little while. They don’t try to move you, but it happens. Nothing’s permanent. Except, I’m in this place right now that I really like, and…I don’t know. I started to get used to things being the same and–it’s not your fault,” he said quickly.
“It’s just. You know. Life. I’m happy that you’re happy, though, it’s okay. I don’t want you to feel bad for doing what was best for you.”

A foster kid? That…that just made her feel even worse, and Tristan sighed, looping an arm around Starlight’s shoulders and drawing him into a half hug. “It’s not your fault. None of it. And I hope where you are now is happy, and I hope you never have to leave again…I really do want the best for you.”
They hadn’t been friends long, but…he was a good kid! She could tell.
What happened next was utterly unprecedented though, the rift opening beneath the both of them.
Tristan cried out and fumbled her eclair, the pastry hitting the ground with a soundless thump as the two disappeared into the unknown.
