Misplaced (13) : Things are just vanishing. Maybe it’s the heat, or the chaos of the times, but even if you swear you put something somewhere, it might be gone. Maybe as quickly as you exit a room and return. Usually it’s only small things; sometimes you might hear a strange rattling just before something disappears, but once it’s gone, it’s gone. So far, it’s mostly things that aren’t too big, but recently there have been reports of cars just disappearing, too…
There was nothing that indicated at first what was truly happening in Reed's household. She had kept a rather low profile since she'd managed to fashion a name for herself. The idea that Sonia had come up with to try and finding a name for herself had taken a little bit longer since their trip to go out and about on the town. Strangely enough it wasn't the book of names for newborns that she had found a first name - but instead she had bought a few books by the same author and it was with that author's name on the tip of her tongue that she had fashioned the first name of Amora. It flowed well off the tongue and it was a pleasant enough sounding name. She was keeping the middle name of Jane as she felt that she had been Jane for too long of a period of time to completely let go of the name. Perhaps it was the next logical step. But that was not important at the moment. What was important was the fact that even as she pushed gently on the almost closed door to Sonia's room (after knocking of course), she was content for the first time since being brought to Reed's place. A name that she could respond to besides her powered one went a long ways in gaining a sense of normalcy. She also now wouldn't have to worry about zoning out if anyone ever called to her using Hylonome.
As the door swung open Amora looked at the interior to Sonia's personal space before frowning. Was it supposed to look this empty? Amora's confused expression would have been comical for anyone that might have come up behind her and asked what was so alarming but instead Amora gave herself a small mental shake. She slowly walked into the near barren room. So many more things had been removed in the short amount of time that she had been aware of Sonia's intentions to leave Reed's home. There was even moments in secret that she had been willing to offer a helping hand in the packing up of items. There were conversations shared during these short periods of packing things in which Amora had felt more at ease in this new home of hers and was eternally grateful towards Sonia for allowing her the chance to aid in a task that felt more personal to her than anything else that she had been doing around Reed's place.
Did she feel that she owed Sonia? She wasn't sure.
But what was startling was that some items that she was sure Sonia was planning to leave behind, and that had been in plain sight, seemed to have suddenly vanished from where they had been sitting in the open. Had Sonia changed her mind about taking the items instead of leaving them? Amora pursed her lips in thought before moving around the room and investigating. The young woman was dead certain that some items that had been marked as "staying" were now definitely nowhere in sight. The only logical conclusion was that minds had been changed. Sitting down on a barren mattress Amora blew out air in frustration before figuring that as empty as the room now appeared to be that maybe it was pointless to remain. Was it because the place felt abandoned that maybe she was picking up on a sense of foreboding?
Rising from the mattress with a strong push upwards Amora crossed the empty room and moved to stand in the doorway. Her gaze was steady as she took in the new appearance of the room before gently swinging the door closed. Her place was to keep Sonia's secret just a little bit longer. There was absolute certainty that Reed had no inkling about what was going on. Letting her hand fall from the doorknob Amora made a motion to turn away and head back to her room before leaning up against the wall instead. She would miss Sonia's presence that was for sure. Her head came up before she moved back to Sonia's door and pushed it open once more. Her gaze swept the interior once more and she blinked. Okay, so now the mattress was gone. Okay, maybe the heat was getting to her brain and just frying its logical portions. No way could a mattress disappear in such a short period of time, right? right?
The door was closed again and Amora moved towards her room with perhaps a new little mystery on her mind. What exactly had she witnessed, if she had witnessed anything at all? The mattress had been there. She had sat on it. And yet in the time it took for her to leave Sonia's room and spend mere moments outside, something had made the mattress disappear. It was disconcerting to say the least.
