The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.

Sadly, since Sekhmet had come to Earth, all Drew and his group could do was barely hide him from their parents. It was getting very crowded at their house - Dean and Di - Drew and his siblings' parents, Dia, their aunt, Drew, himself, Dria, his twin, Dani, his 12-year-old sister, their 19-month-old twin brothers Den and Dell, Dari, Drew's kitten (or Bonded Mauvian) and now, hidden from their parents and aunt, an old friend who was an alien humanoid as well.

Unfortunately, he would have to stay there until Dari finished his gear - the repair of his Henshin pen - it had been damaged and drained by the long battle and the transport to Earth, a Senshi Phone, as well as an Earth Human glamour item - and that was taking longer than expected... Dari had very little experience, though he was working diligently every day and would come home exhausted. Finally, Drew mentioned the problem to Jeremy one day on their rounds.

"Dari is having a lot more trouble with Sekhmet's gear than we expected. It's just that he has so little experience. If only there were another Guardian Cat he felt comfortable enough around to learn from.." He frowned.

Jeremy had expected as much; he didn’t know how Drew was going to be able to take care of this strange new addition. When Drew mentioned that he was having problems–really, he wasn’t surprised. He was always working so hard, and Jeremy had come to expect that Drew’s heart was usually in the right place.

“Well, he’s still young.” Just a kid, really. He seemed like a handful, too. He could imagine what it was like to have a young kid around–but a cat, too? That just seemed like a hell of a lot of trouble.

“Doesn’t he know any other Mauvians? Even I’ve got one that checks in with me every now and then.”

He paused and then pulled out his phone; it looked normal enough, but Jeremy had explained, “After my whole…After what happened with the Negaverse, when I went missing for a while…Myles brought one over. He helped me with my phone, so I won’t ever lose service again. The battery’s wild, it can run for a week or so straight before I have to worry about it dying. I’ve got service everywhere–tin can’t stop it, bricks can’t stop it. Even underground, I get a connection. Do you think Dari wants to learn from someone else? I mean, I could probably ask him if he could if you think Dari could benefit from it.”

Drew, thought for a moment, and then decided, "Yeah, that would be good for him, just make sure he's good with young ones. Also, another thing... My parents...are kind of getting suspicious of the whole situation - and I think my Dad nearly caught Sekhmet using the restroom last night. He was so exhausted he thought it was me. I'm wondering .. would it be ok, if he stayed at your place for a few nights?" Drew looked a little embarrassed.

Jeremy wanted to groan. Wanted to dip his head back and sigh dramatically and say no because he liked his space, he liked being able to go home and not worry about putting on airs, not worry about weird aliens doing weird alien things.

…But Myles had been asking about him, worrying if he was okay or not.

It might have been a little bit of a relief to get his brother off his back if he could just see the guy.

“Yeah, we can make that work. As long as he’s willing to be careful and try not to stick out too much. I don’t want Myles to get into any trouble. You know how he is.”

Jeremy loved his brother, but he was a fussy older brother and it was in his nature to be a little overbearing and worry a little extra about Myles. He cared about him, and though he hadn’t been forthcoming with his family history, he seemed to have every reason to want to look after him. Myles was too friendly, and gullible, and didn’t really have much restraint.

“He can crash on the couch for now. I’m still looking for a new place for Myles and I but it’s not like we’re moving this week or anything. But I think we’re ready to get out of that s**t hole apartment.”

He’d been living there since he’d first gotten his job, and it wasn’t in the best part of town, and he’d scrimped and saved, and Myles’ business was doing okay and now that college tuition wasn’t a major factor in their budgeting they had options.

Not that Jeremy had been excited about that or anything. “Let me call Sol, I’ll see if I can’t get him to come out. Maybe we can get Dari and Sekhmet to meet us somewhere–if it’s safe for him to be out. If Sol can help, Myles can just take Sekhmet back to the apartment now.”

Drew nodded and pulled out his civilian phone, which Dari had managed to wire to be able to call his communicator (though it had taken him six months), in case he needed him.

It beeped a couple of times, and then Dari was on. "Hey Daddy, what's up?"

Drew spoke calmly and clearly. "Dari, I need you to get Sekhmet in his 'complete disguise' and get him out of the house without Aunt Dia knowing, got that? Then I need you to get him to the following locations." He paused and then read off the address. "No questions, Dari, I will explain later."

He turned to Jeremy. "Message sent."

While Drew had been on the phone, Jeremy had made a quick call to Soleiyu–something he managed to do quietly and discreetly, and finished almost as quickly as Drew had. He was texting Myles at about the same time and nodded, distracted only once by the meteor shower.

He was still a little on edge–it was just something he couldn’t shake. The burst of light made him wary until he reminded himself that it was far away and not something he had to deal with.

“Yeah, Sol’s gonna be here in a few minutes. He was over at the park but he says he’s had some experience with Senshi who came to Earth. He says he’s eager to meet Sekhmet. ETA’s only a few minutes. I’m texting Myles, too. I know he’s out at the festival right now. Made me pick him up a star charm, he’s trying to collect them all. I can’t imagine they’ll take long to get here.”

In minutes, Dari was leading a completely covered Sekhmet to their location - it was good that Drew's family lived only minutes from the town plaza.

Dari immediately opened up with questions, as did Sekhmet. No one could quite understand which came from who so quickly.

Drew motioned for silence, then spoke. "Jeremy and I have decided that this whole arrangement is taking way too long and that there are way too many close calls." He looked down at Dari (who had the deepest hurt in his eyes) fondly and spoke kindly to his bonded. "Dari, I know you are young, and inexperienced and that is why you are having trouble with the projects. And I know you will be an expert one day, creating many awesome pieces of technology, but for now we we're calling in an expert to not just help out, but to help mentor you, so you can learn faster and learn better." Dari nodded, not happy, but understanding.

Drew turned to Sekhmet who looked offended as well. "Ausar, old friend, not only is food getting scarce in our home - food bought for eight people is now being shared among nine even with the supplemental I also buy, not to mention that my Mom and Dad, and Aunt Dia are getting suspicious of where all that food is going. Furthermore, my Dad ACTUALLY caught you last night, when you both met at the restroom and fortunately - he was so tired he thought you were me. If all that wasn't bad enough, there have been plenty of close calls over the last month. Jeremy has agreed that you may stay at his and Myles' apartment for a few days and crash on their couch." He grinned. "Jeremy tells me that Myles will be happy to see you, and that he's been asking about you. Also, you should be able to move freely about their apartment - at least most of the time. Better than having to be cooped up in my room all the time (even in my closet) with nothing to do most of the time, and no one to talk with except my gurgling 19-month-old twin brothers, right?"

Sekhmet nodded slowly and bowed his head. "Forgive me for not being a good guest under your roof. It brings me much shame, my good friend, Hapii- er Drew - " He was still once in while mistaking Drew for his past self - it seemed that living for a thousand years had muddled his memories.

"Nay, Ausar, old friend, it is we who bring shame upon ourselves for not being good hosts - we kept you cooped up and almost imprisoned..."

"By my own will, and to protect me from those that would do me. Thank you. And thank you for this new arrangement both of you."

They turned at that moment to see the meteor shower as they waited-and what a glorious display it was, each one different color and shade, purple, pink, blue, green, brown, orange, red, yellow, and of course white.

"Ah."

Myles might have gotten there earlier if he hadn’t also been distracted by the meteor shower. He arrived with a canvas bag thrown over one arm–and nearly bumped into Jeremy because he was staring up at the sky. He was met with only a brief look, but Myles smiled sheepishly at him.

Jeremy sighed, exasperated, but Myles seemed to have caught the tail end of what was being said. He had a few star charms dangling from his belt and had obviously been out and enjoying the Star Festival. “Did he say that someone was going to stay with us?” he whispered, but waved to the group politely.

“Yeah, Sekh. On the couch. Is the living room clean?”

“Oh! Yeah, I got it all straightened out before I left. I was making candles,” he explained to the group, but Drew probably already knew about Myles’ small business. “Oh, that’s exciting! I’ll try to be a good roommate, I have a weird schedule and sleepwalk a bit. We’ll make it work. I can teach you how to make perfumes and soap, if you want,” he said, but Myles was usually just chatty when he was excited.

Maybe it was a good thing that Soleiyu showed up when he did; he was a large, fluffy, white cat and he carried himself with a princely air.

He found Jeremy and it was clear that this was the group that he was supposed to meet because there was a Mauvian there, and–

Oh, it was a Mauvian he recognized, too.

“Darius,” he greeted. He remembered the little bonded he’d met a few months ago when they’d been lamenting about their bonded Senshi.

"Hey, Myles, sure that sounds interesting." Sekh answered.

Drew looked confused, "Dari you know this Mauvian?"

Dari shifted uncomfortably. "Yeah, Soleiyus, helped with building my communicator awhile back... he also helped me with another problem...one I still... haven't figured out yet...Soleiyu this is Drew Bones, or rather my Bonded, Eternal Sailor Etamin of Hieroglyphics. Daddy- er Drew this Soleiyu. Soleiyu did you ever, find your Bonded?"

The change of subject was so sharp, it could have cut steel.

Myles smiled, relieved that Sekh was so agreeable–and that they had something he could look forward to them doing together.

“I did,” Soleiyiu said, and smiled politely at Drew because he immediately understood that it was for the best he didn’t start running his mouth about the full details of his and Dari’s first meeting. “It took a while, and things still aren't quite normal, but she's home. She’s settling in again, but you know how it is.”

He shrugged and didn’t explain, but he didn’t really want to get into it all right now. He looked up at Sekh and then nodded as he began to pull out a few things from his subspace. “Come here, Dari. I’ll show you how to make something for him to help him blend in. I’ll message you a blueprint in case you need to do this again. I can see why you wanted some help, though. He’d stick out like a sore thumb in Destiny City. You’ve been kept up, inside?” he asked, glancing up briefly as he laid out his tools and supplies and gave Dari a chance to come sit next to him so he could give him a demonstration.

“This’ll at least give you the comfort of slipping out for some fresh air. But I recommend trying to stick with someone who can keep an eye on you until you can get the hang of Earth. It’s very different from other worlds. It’ll help to have someone looking out for you and explaining things.”

Dari nodded. For once, he didn't feel like running his mouth either.

Drew raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

Dari padded over to Soleiyu and watched as he did the work. "Thank you."

Sekhmet nodded at the Mauvian, "For the most part. I did sneak out once." Drew frowned at him in disappointment. "I apologize, for breaking your trust, my friends... Drew you understand?"

Drew did indeed understand. "I do." He frowned. "Sekhmites are people of the desert. What they know is the outside- the hot wind is the nurturing breath of the planet, their Mother Sekhmet. Please tell me that at least you weren't seen?"

Sekh shook his head, "I was seen by one person - another like myself - a Semi-Humanoid Senshi, also just arrived here from another world, and having lived since Silver Millennium. We merely spoke for a few minutes and then went home. He seemed to have all he needed in terms of gear."

Drew frowned at his friend, "Why did you not tell us this sooner, Ausar?"

Sekh looked away ashamed, "I came home exhausted, fell sleep and forgot afterwards. Heat and Cold don't mix well."

Then Sekh walked over to Soleiyu kicking a Star Charm loose as he shuffled his feet and didn't notice. "Thank you."

Soleiyu glanced up at him and nodded thoughtfully before he returned to showing Dari how to make the device. He took a few minutes to talk with him about other things–about cell phones and upgrading them, and to make sure that he was comfortable working on such projects again in the future. He wanted to make sure the little Mauvian was comfortable, and made sure that he had his phone number in case he needed any help.

“So you call me for anything, okay? Even if you have any questions. I can check things over and we can figure them out together.”

He picked up the little piece of jewelry they’d made for Sekh. “Here, try this. I don’t think it’ll help with heat and cold thing, but it’ll at least make it less stressful to keep a low profile. You said you met another Senshi? Who?” he asked, and his tail twitched eagerly behind him.

Dari nodded at every word that Soleiyu spoke.

Drew noticed how respectful Dari was with Soleiyu - was that because they had some kind of friendship before now? Or was he different, because Soleiyu was a Mauvian?

Drew hadn't seen Darius around many other Mauvians before so that could be it - although, he [i[had heard of the incident that had gotten Darius suspended from Mauvian Headquarters for a few days last... from the way, Dari had explained it... well, he didn't think that was very respectful of Dari, especially in that situation.... But that made him roar with laughter.... Ahem, as an Eternal Sailor Guardian, he needed to hold himself to higher standards as well as those around him.

Sekhmet nodded and answered, "Deep Space Senshi Sailor Selinur was who I met. Brrr! He's an ice cat. I'm a Gold Skin from the Desert. Heat and Cold don't mix."

He picked the chain and charm and put it around his neck, then activated it. He for some reason, looked like Drew's slightly younger brother, with long black hair to his neck, and bright jade eyes, tall and somewhat muscular, and wearing regular Earth clothing. "Hmm," he commented looking at Drew which could have almost been a mirror..."I like."

Drew stepped forward. "Now you just need a name. Hmmm."

"Well, let's see," Drew's seemingly brother said with a mischievous grin, "Drew, Dria, Dani, Dari, and then as well as Dean, Di, and Dia - the people who served as my protectors for the past few months, with or without their knowledge, in tribute to you all... a Human Name ... at least of my time... starting with the letter D... Danten, shortened to Dant."

Dari and Drew nodded and smiled their approval.

"For a last name," Drew commented, "For now, you can go by Bones. Later, think it over and come up with it."

The newly christened Dant nodded. "Jeremy and Myles, I would like for you to give me that name." He smiled at them.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 19, 2022 10:09 pm

Soleiyu’s ear twitched; he didn’t recognize Selinur’s name, didn’t know him. Though, given how many he had met, it made sense that there were some that he hadn’t. Still, he seemed pleased with how effective the disguise was.

Myles blinked at Danten and immediately seemed flustered. “A last name? That’s such a big responsibility, are you sure?”

Jeremy doubted that he wasn’t, and crossed his arms over his chest briefly. “Brooks, Banks, Bates, Bidemen. I don’t know, you’ve got a lot of options. We can pick something out when we get home if you want to think on it.”

“And when you do find something you like, I can get you identification,” Soleiyu promised, more for Drew and Jeremy’s sake than Dant’s if only because they knew how much you needed to ‘fit in’ on Earth, and they’d be the ones that had to worry about it.

fin?

Dant nodded. Danten Brooks?, Danten Banks?, Danten Bates, Danten Bidemen-maybe

'Very well, ready when you are." He nodded.

Drew nodded. "See you soon Ausa- I mean Dant - I mean why that sock on your ear AGAIN?" He grinned, laughing.

Dant frowned. "Sock? Oh you mean this thing, where does it go again?" The glamour corrected itself.

Drew and Dari shook their heads and smiled. "Alright, see you tomorrow, Jeremy, Miles, Dant, and Soleiyu - it was good to meet you Soleiyu." Drew waved goodbye.

Dari brushed againse their legs and said a Mauvian Goodbye to Soleiyu. "See you soon Mentor." He actually smiled at Soleiyu.

Dant scratched Dari's ears and waved to both of them.
