Ahri was as good as his word, and now he and Tobias were hurrying towards the food truck. It was even hotter outside than Tobias had anticipated, and honestly it felt as though the air conditioner in his car couldn’t quite keep up…and he was sure that the ice cream would be nothing but cold puddles of goo by the time they reached the truck but.

They would survive. And they could always go out later to get some more.

Finally the food truck came into view, still in the same nice shaded area and still…with not enough people nearby but. That did make it easier to go and spoil Evan, but it didn’t make the sales any easier. Though…the day was so damn hot he wasn’t surprised that there was nobody out.

Parking the car right beside the food truck, Tobias got out and hurried around, carrying the ice creams with him as he barged into the food truck and laughed. “Evan! Are you cool enough in here? We brought ice cream and I’m here to lament that my credit card is gone forever. But Ahri bought these for us, and they’re only half soup!”

He grinned and held out one of the bowls towards Evan, waggling his eyebrows.

Evan screamed and Ahri bolted behind Tobias, ducking behind the other man in a moment of panic. He flinched slightly as Evan brandished the spatula like a weapon.

"...Didn't you check the temperature records for today before you left?" He asked sheepishly over Tobi's shoulder. Coming out during the evening hours might have been a better call, but that wasn't his place to say.

He shook his head as he stepped out from behind Tobi finally. "Nah... He just put it down somewhere, you know how that goes. We moved the desk to see if it fell back there but nothing so far. I told him I'd get us ice cream too cool off." And to heal his bruised ego from smacking his head on the desk.

"We're fine. We figured we'd bring you something to cool down with since we were out anyway. Even if the heats brutal." Seriously... Maybe he really should cut his hair.

It didn’t seem to take long for Evan to calm down, even if he did reach for the spatula to fan himself off again. The star charm he'd fastened to it earlier jingled but it didn't slow him down.. He looked at Tobias’ bowl of soup and then back up at him and–

Even if he was miserable with the heat in his metal death trap, he couldn’t help but smile at how refreshing it was just to see these two. “I don’t want to call it quits, but maybe I could take a break or something. I’ll just shut things down for a few minutes and we can have our soup. The AC is working okay but it doesn’t really help when I have to keep the counter open to take orders. I wanted to go stand in front of the freezer for a minute but I really was afraid that things were going to melt. If you two are going to stay out for a while, could you maybe–I mean, if it’s not too much trouble, could you maybe grab me a box fan? I’ve got an empty outlet. And if you were maybe able to pick me up some dry ice, too, I mean–I could make it work. But I don’t want to ask you guys for anything unless it’s not a problem. What flavor of soup did you get?”

Evan leaned forward, and it seemed like his mood had improved–mostly because he couldn’t help but laugh every time he looked into the melted ice cream.

“I’m sorry, Ahri. Sorry, Tobias. I didn’t mean to get all riled up.” He knew how jumpy he was, and even if he could laugh at himself about it now, he supposed it wasn’t easy for them to have to deal with his nerves all the time.

“We can get one, but we’ll do it tomorrow. Today Evan, we’re going home and the three of us are going to get cold showers in turn and share the couch, you know it has that great spot right under the air vent. I’ll get the shower first so that I can steal the spot, and we’ll have a great time watching…Christmas movies or something. We can pretend it’s cold if we do that. I’m sure Talia would want to join us too, and I bet it would piss Zac off. I’m always game to piss Zac off.”

Tobias grinned, clinking their bowls together and continued to scratch at Ahri’s scalp for a minute before dipping his spoon in and taking a bite of what still hadn’t turned to complete liquid.

“We could have announced ourselves better, but Evan…you wouldn’t have been so excited and your heart rate wouldn't have gotten up if that had been the case. I have to make sure your heart is still beating by scaring you at least every so often. It’s my job. And since you won’t go jogging with me…this is the best way.”

Ahri poutted when the head scritches stopped. "Can we not piss anyone off? It's too try. Plus I don't wanna be in Zac's line of fire if he's pissed." He knew a bad idea when he heard one, and while Ahri had been part of many a bad idea, he was not ready to be on Zac's bad side, during a heatwave. Ahri eyed Tobi warily. "Is that why you've been asking about going jogging? Cause Evan won't go with you?" The young man scoffed, feigning to be hurt. "And here I thought you just wanted to spend time with me. Evan, can you believe this?" Ahri snickered, swirling his ice cream around in the bowl.

"We can always make something of it. Go looking for your box fan and see if we can find any inflatable pools or something, Fill it with ice. Something." Probably ice. It might stay cool longer. Ahri shrugged, picking at his half soup, fishing out the cookie dough chunks.

"You could post something? Say that your closing up early due to the heat. As it is, you made an attempt to provide something for people. You still tried, even if this heat put a damper on things. I don't think anyone's going to be that upset with you for closing up a few hours early. You can always make up the extra time on a cooler night, if you're really that worried about it."
