Quote: The Fireflies (6) : In the warm summer nights, little glowing lights begin to bob and dart through the city. Fireflies are mating, so this isn't uncommon in itself; in the past few days you've probably seen hundreds of fireflies. What makes these lights so unique is that they seem to change color; you might see a blue one, a green one, a red one. They flicker randomly, and something just seems off with them. If you come into contact with one, you will find yourself with a strange electric jolt. They cannot be caught, and will flicker away if you pursue too aggressively. This isn’t the first time they’ve appeared in Destiny City, but no one’s been able to tell where they came from or where they’re going. No matter how quickly you chase them, they always seem to disappear before you can find any answers.
“Gil!! *Gil*—psst, hey, you have to, oh, would you come see!” and Mier reached back to snag Gils massive forearm and tug gently; the tang of mintberry boba sat sweet on his lips, juice poppers and sweet cream.
Mier was grateful for the outing, what with how work within the negaverse had stolen his time - he’d stalled out waiting on entry into college, something about finances and there not being an open spot with enough of the classes he needed. He’d had his goals pushed up into the winter semester.
And if he was being honest? That was fine by him. All the ways he’d slowly realized that school didn’t need to be his entire world, that he could take a breath between one life event and the next to grow a little bit at a time —
“I swear I saw something strange over—there it is again!” a little flit and glitter, a bright flare like a sun spot that died in glorious colors Mier’d never seen. Mier wanted to chase the floaty little orbs — find out where they were culminating at.

Roused from his musings on how he liked days he got to spend with Mier, Gil's dark eyes focused and he tried to figure out what the smaller was talking about. Nothing out of the ordinary caught his attention, and he glanced down at the bluenette with a confused look.
"Not that I don't believe you kitten, but I have no idea--" And then there it was. That was just a firefly though, right?
That light was pink. It wasn't white.
He looked out further in the darkness, squeezing his nearly empty boba cup a little harder, and then smirked.
"Okay, I really do beli-- That's blue. Okay these aren't actual fireflies. What are they?" Were they Order pets? Were they some new chaos senshi's power? It could be anything, even a new, alien, invasive species.
They seemed to be coming from somewhere. With a smirk, he looked down at his companion again. "Let's go." Without much more than that, Gil took off at a decent speed for not being powered and being seven-foot-one inch all.
And he didn't feel childish chasing fantastical orbs that could've been anything through an open field, he felt free, excited, happy to be by Gil and doing something a little bit silly -- a little bit mysterious. How it was that anyone ever complained about the strangeness going on in DC?
Well, that was beyond Mier, completely! Because for him? For him it was fun! The remaining boba got sucked down, the cup chucked towards the nearest bin - if it hit or missed - whatever, it was close enough! Returning Gil's smile with one full of glossy glee, he needed extra steps to keep up with the taller man's pace -- but going out every night had helped with that. As had following Gil to the Gym, to actually use the gym, and not just ogle the man's *technique* like some love-drunk kitten.
"Do you think their magical maybe? Or just -- something beautiful.." Mier almost wanted to *catch*, was startled into a squeak as one appeared and disappeared right in front of his eyes, before blooming into a rainbow sheen group further ahead. The afterglow of spots in his vision was stunning, made him even more determined to try for one of the eerie beings.

"I dunno..." He really didn't. Gil's eyes were wise as he watched them and then blinked. Were thy taking them somewhere?
"Maybe we...should try to catch one?" Gil turned to his shorter friend, crush, guy he definitely had some kind of feelings for and just gave him a wide smile. "Down for adventure today? I got nothing on either of my job rosters at the moment." Gilmore looked like an excited dog, looking at his owner expectantly, waiting for a yes so he can go full speed ahead.
Maybe not full speed, but he definitely wanted to go and find a bigger cluster of them Maybe a hive. Did they live in hives? Did they just live out in the open? Gil didn't know, but he wanted to figure it out.
"C'mon, kitten. Let's get you something pretty. Use your hands though!"
With that, the large man took off at a sprint, darting any time he could see a new, colorful bug.
Miers joyous laugh burst into breathlessness as he watched Gil take off in a run; a sprint — and there was something to be said for his wanting to admire all the power there. Contained in long striding limbs and well defined muscles.
*Handsome.*
“Oh, hey! No fair with your head start!” all tease as he shook the distraction loose from his head, shouted as he moved to, if not catch up, then try his damndest! With the wind whipping though his hair, the warm breeze tugging like the tall grasses —
Of course he’d use his hands - he had nothing else to catch the glorious fading buglets with. It felt like a game. Like training, tag, a good time!! Miers smile was etched and stayed, ached even for how he gasped and turned on his heel after one light fading into another.
Maybe — if his legs got tired? Gil would cary him home on his shoulders. They’d have palms full of fireflies, put them in neat little jars.

"Hey, all's fair in love and war, sweetie!" Gil managed to call back, chuckling. He then lost his footing on something, a root probably, and he tumbled forward, eventually going a** over tea kettle and he ended up on his back after maybe two flips and a very long process of him running forward, arms flailing before he fell.
The large man blinked at that, groaning, and just laid there, spread eagle.
"I'm dead. I'm down. ********..." His voice was strained. Nothing was bleeding or broken, but there was a lot bruised. His ego was the biggest thing bruised. Maybe not, that might actually go to his upper back, which he was pretty sure he landed on another root with it, the way hit was throbbing and burning. Without even using his arms, Gilmore rolled onto his stomach with a grunt and sigh.
Clumsy was something he was hoping that people didn't figure out. Alas, he wasn't lucky. So he got onto his hands and knees, and eventually his feet with a lot of efforts and grunts.
"Boooo!" breathless, bright, and Mier had a time, dancing after one bright light, the next. HIs cheeks flushed pink and breath wild for trying to snap the little beasts into his hands.
There was only ever air, the form of Gil gaining distance in stride, and then going down in a h e a p - Mier squealed for the sight, shocked, giddy, it was as comical as it was concerning - even as the man seemed to right himself without much difficulty.
"Gil! Are you dying, will CPR fix it?" and his breathless laughter gave way to light concern as he cozied up close enough to stare up into Gil's eyes, "I took a class - though? I'd need you to get back on the ground, as that's the most effective way to manage these things. With the patient flat on their back." and the innuendo was delivered dead-pan, the fleeing lights quickly forgotten in light of being able to rock on his heels and eye Gil shamelessly, head to toe, as if looking for injury -- while really only looking for -- well -- interest.
Why chase something he couldn't possibly have ever caught, when what he wanted was right there?

The jokes didn't go unappreciated. Gil gave a wry chuckle as he dusted himself off and then felt around for any scrapes on his arms. A few, and there was minor bleeding, but he was superficial. He'd be fine. After adjusting his clothes again, the big man looked around and then frowned.
"Hey, where'd the little things go?"
Ah, his shin hurt. He probably bruised it on a rock or something. A pout, but he looked back to Mier and then looked sheepish. "So, anyway... It's rare that I have you for myself these days. So I want to be greedy. Do you wanna go somewhere? Dancing, a little date, some food?" One of his hands reached out for Mier's smaller one, lacing their fingers together and tugged him forward a bit more. "Could be now, could be tomorrow after you spend the night...?"
Always a question. "We can keep looking for the fireflies, but uh... It'd be real nice if you stayed over. I could make waffles."
The flare of color on Mier's face rivaled the fireflies glow, he suddenly cared far less about capturing one of the bugs 'for science!' and far more about the next few hours, the next morning, the next night? Found himself caught up in his own thoughts and Gil's soft words; the way his hand disappeared so completely in the larger mans own.
"I like it when you're greedy..." he liked it when he had free time, the rarity of the moments in between when they were both available for more than just a lunch or an evening. A little date -- the idea filled his head up with cotton-candy fluff, saccharine sweet enough to rot his teeth, light enough to melt in the rain. Mier smiled as he tipped his face up, met Gils sheepish features with blushing confidence that belied the butterflies in his gut, "Pff, of course I'll stay, but only if we can add blueberries to that recipe of yours, oh -- and maybe whipped cream? Syrup?"
"Then after -- a little date."
The confidence broke as he found himself pressing that same smile into Gils form, over cotton, had to hide the joy somewhere or he'd burst for being so bold. He didn't even know how to begin hashing out the details, but he imagined it'd be easy to do over breakfast the next morning.
A much better breakfast than all the ones before.

Smile matched smile and Gil couldn't help but feel happy Mier said yes.
"We can add both of those. All of it. The blueberries, whipped cream, and syrup." Sounded too sweet to him, but he didn't have to eat it. Gil would be happy to supply the smaller one with as many sweets as he wanted so long as Gil got to spend time with him. At the end of the day, Gil was old enough to just want time. Honestly, they didn't have to do anything, just be together.
So this was a good thing. More than a middle ground.
"A date. I'm excited to romance you properly." A kiss pressed to that nose.
