Heatwaves (11) : An unfortunate dry spell has come over Destiny City, and a heat wave has made it all but unbearable. The heatwave is only projected to last for a week but it’s been rough. Plants are wilting, people are wilting. The city is experiencing blackouts, which isn’t helping. Thankfully, the reservoir is always open. Just, crowded. It might just be the worst part of the summer. People are passing out regularly, and the hospitals are getting too many admissions to keep up with. It’s probably just the heat and not anyone up to anything nefarious, right? Better stay hydrated and try to keep cool, and maybe avoid everyone in weird costumes, just in case.

The weather was warm enough that Eion could wear shorts, sandals, and a tanktop. He wasn't cold, unless he walked by a building that had air conditioning flowing out into the world, which he often tried to avoid. But Eion wasn't someone that lasted longer than a few scant hours — he'd enjoyed the hundred-something temperatures for a time, then a familiar weariness took root in his core. He found shelter in a shop whose air conditioning was broken and whose workers stepped out temporarily, and then he was Faustite again.

Then he realized why everyone found the heat so unbearable. Between his own burning and the sweltering, humid air, the flaming thing found no reprieve from the pain of existence.

He made it only so far as a balcony with a high retaining wall before he gave up and laid down. He didn't care if the owners were home or not. He didn't care if a White Moon senshi felt him near by. He didn't care if a Princess fell out of the ******** sky and threw her tiara at him. It was hot — he wasn't moving.

Lying on his side, he beckoned the air weakly as he thought of his only boy that would enjoy this abominable weather. Scaly thing would be pleased for it, and Faustite could only hope that he had cool skin when he arrived.

Celadonite was enjoying this heatwave. He hadn’t felt this good unless he was pressed up against Faustite, and for once, being pressed up against the fire wasn’t needed! Obviously the sun had decided to come close enough for a while that he was pretty much pressed up against it...and man oh man. This was living.

He had taken no less than four starseeds, that was terribly easy too, as everyone was too tired and too hot to really move…and the best part was that their deaths would be put down to the heat most likely, ah. What a perfect day it was…and the only thing that would make it better…

He felt the aura of the General and saw the slight shimmer of a heat haze and broke into a smile, running and taking a leap up onto the balcony that Faustite was laying on.

Ah. The hottest General in the entire Negaverse, and Celadonite had him all to himself right now, with a laugh, he sprang down, covering the male with his body and giving a wistful sigh. “Isn’t it fantastic out? I hope it stays like this forever. Seriously. I feel like I could go on forever. Plus I’ve already nabbed four starseeds since everyone’s too hot to move. I hope you’re proud of me!”

At first, all Faustite could manage was a defeated sigh. It hadn't really felt like a sigh — more like air leaving his collapsing, overheated lungs. And it wasn't particularly the temperature that bothered him, but the fact that it felt less cool meant that his own heat bothered him more than usual. And Faustite was perpetually tired of cooking from the inside out, day after day, when he hadn't any external sources to ameliorate the pain or heat.

Finally, Faustite managed a half-delirious "Uh-huh." He was proud of Celadonite for having covered so much quota in a single day, he just lacked the energy to express it with as much gusto as it deserved.

But, Celadonite being so dependent on external heat sources as he was, had much cooler skin than most people. Skin he could touch without fear of cooking it. So Faustite reached for his boy's scale-laden arm and gave it a gentle, supportive squeeze. Maybe, if he could dredge up the wherewithal to spit words, he'd ask Celadonite to pull Faustite's own starseed just for some relief from his own burning.

Finally, he turned his head to the side and pressed his cheek against the dirty concrete. "Cela," he muttered lethargically. "I'm dying." And he was too tired to teleport back to the Dark Kingdom.

Alarm coursed through Celadonite at that pronouncement and he stared at Faustite for a few seconds, trying to figure out if he was being serious or just dramatic or…or if it mattered.

Honestly it didn’t matter. The very idea of Faustite dying was one that Celadonite couldn't begin to even try to handle or detangle and he huffed, scowling. “You’re not dying. You’re just hot. Or. I hope you’re just hot. You’re always hot but. Maybe you’re too hot? We can go home. I’m sure the heat won’t be affecting our house.”

It never did. And as lovely as the house was, it was never this warm even when Faustite was beside him or under him. Sometimes when he lay atop him it came close but.

If they had to go back to convince Faustite that he wasn’t dying…then Celadonite would see that they did.

“But you’re not dying…right? Seriously…you’re just overheated…nobody stabbed you or like. Threw a tiara at you, have they?”

A small bit of nervousness was beginning to creep into his voice and he took a moment to drape himself over Faustite, drinking in the heat that Faustite emitted along with the overwhelming heat from the sun and oh.

Oh it felt glorious.

Faustite considered answering Celadonite in words, but even the words seemed too hot to come out of his mouth. He sighed instead, some voice-laced, sputtering sound meant to convey his exasperation for this heat. It was different when it was the rest of the world that was hot, not that he expected Celadonite to know that.

Though, if Celadonite was as cold-blooded as he seemed, then he might've understood in the context of cold weather.

And Celadonite, himself, felt cooler than the rest of the world. He reached back for Cela's hands, found them, and pulled his arms up to drape over Faustite's own. Used him for a parasol in hopes of blocking out the summer day's scorching heat. "Mm," he assented at last. "Too hot." And too tired from the heat.

"Need a cold shower. Or a bath."

“Well, I can get us both home to make sure you can get a cold shower and a bath, but you know that taking us both is going to knock me the hell out for a few hours, so I expect you to earn this ride, Faustite.”

He rested his forehead against the other half youma and sighed softly, pressing his lips to the warm cheek before teleporting them both back to their own little home. Safe in the not scorching confines of Negaspace.

Hm.

His eyes drooped and for a moment the room spun around as he tried to reorientate himself after teleporting with the both of them. It…wasn’t so bad but he did feel like he could sleep forever. “...Do me a favor…” Celadonite’s words were soft and he tried to curl closer to Faustite, craving the warmth that still radiated from the male. “...Get me in bed and then join me after your shower? I just sacrificed a lot for you…the weather was so nice!”

But. The sacrifice was always worth it when it came to Faustite.

It ever jarred his senses, going from one place to another beyond his own control. Faustite waited for the room to finish its short revolution, for the tangle of words from Celadonite's mouth to form coherent phrases again. When his understanding of the world had come back to himself, he had half a mind to make it up to Celadonite in bed, but that thought withered with the ensuing guilt trip.

As he pulled himself to his feet, he wondered — had he asked too much? He should've kept his melodramatic commentary to himself, he realized, when he looked at the quickly melting pile of the youmafied Captain. Sighing a soft lick of smoke, he stooped to pull Celadonite into his arms. Strange how quickly heat had left him, like it was looking for anywhere else to be.

So he decided to forego the shower. Though he was still overcooked himself, he hadn't wanted — nor expected — for Celadonite to waste his energy, and his day, on Faustite's comfort. As he made for the winding stairs up the turret portion of the building, Celadonite clutched tight in his arms, he wondered how long he'd take to learn from his mistakes.

I just sacrificed a lot for you.

It wasn't much different.

You're being dramatic.

"Can join you now," he murmured as he crested the stairs. Nudging the door open with his boot, it revealed the rounded room in which he and Albite had begun renovations. In the center sat the bed, a rounded thing that Albite spent far too much time and money on picking out. It was on this that Faustite laid his companion. And with his muscles now quite wearied from carrying a boy after being overheated, he padded around to a free portion of the bed, donned his cincher, and laid down next to the hissy boy.

Celadonite curled up happily in Faustite’s arms and shook his head. “Get your shower, Sweetheart. You were so hot, and I’m okay, seriously.” He chuckled, but curled closer none the less, enjoying being close to him. He always enjoyed being close to him. “I’m really okay, you know. I need the practice anyway. It’s going to get easier, the teleporting…the more I do it, right? So if I just keep making new limits for myself, I’ll be a pro in no time.”

He gave a sleepy grin and leaned over to plant a kiss at the tip of Faustite’s chin, and then on on his neck. “...Go get cool, honey. I’ll be here when you get back. Might be asleep, but you can come keep me warm after?”

The stupid endarments came so easiliy. He wasn’t normally so sentimental but. He was tired. And now he was cozy.

Sleep wasn’t far behind. But…Faustite seemed…a little off kilter and Celadonite didn’t enjoy that at all. Especially if it was something that he had caused.

"Always so hot." He couldn't stifle a smile; Cela was unendingly sweet, careful, caring, optimistic, dedicated. That he could reframe the strain he underwent so easily was a boon that Faustite wouldn't know for himself, and it was the hallmark of a good leader. Someday, Celadonite would make General, and someday, Celadonite would be leading the better part of their army in their millennium-long war.

The thought warmed him. But, as he was too hot, he began stripping off his vest and shirt instead. Besides, it was hard to stay moody with his boy pressing his affections to Faustite's cheek and neck (even if he shuddered a margin for the latter).

As the stripped clothes were tossed off the bed, he offered his assurances. "I'll be fine."

He would be. He'd been burning for years, now. Survived a handful of sweltering summers when he wasn't whiling away his time in the Rift on a fool's errand.Surely that meant he had some measure of survivability.

Wordlessly, he drew his boy closer, and buried his nose against the nape of Celadonite's neck. "Take a nap," he muttered against skin. Smoke rose with his words and his breaths, but he knew they would fade as his internal temperature slowly returned to normal.

Celadonite chuckled and closed his eyes, unable to argue that. A nap sounded wonderful. A nap next to Faustite sounded even better than wonderful. “All right. All right.” The words were nearly a mumble and he curled closer, hoping to leech some of the heat from Faustite, hoping to do some good for him. It was why he was what he was. Why he had worked to become what he was.

“Sleep well and sweet dreams.”

Hm. Did he even dream anymore?

Honestly, Celadonite wasn’t sure, and though he tried to ponder the question, he fell asleep before he could get any further.

If he did dream, he knew it would be about fire, and that was obviously the best kind of dream.
