Heatwaves (11) : An unfortunate dry spell has come over Destiny City, and a heat wave has made it all but unbearable. The heatwave is only projected to last for a week but it’s been rough. Plants are wilting, people are wilting. The city is experiencing blackouts, which isn’t helping. Thankfully, the reservoir is always open. Just, crowded. It might just be the worst part of the summer. People are passing out regularly, and the hospitals are getting too many admissions to keep up with. It’s probably just the heat and not anyone up to anything nefarious, right? Better stay hydrated and try to keep cool, and maybe avoid everyone in weird costumes, just in case.
The man Fafnir had been draining collapsed against a wall and the corrupt blinked in surprised at how easily he'd been taken down. Strolling closer, he looked both ways down the alley just to make sure no one else was watching as he pulled more and more energy, the glowing ball in his palm growing.
Maybe it was the heat. The weather was positively miserable and even powered up, Fafnir was sweating under it. It beaded his skin and made him feel sticky, hair plastered to the back of his neck and to his bare arms any time he moved. That was probably the most annoying part... Maybe this man didn't drink enough water today, and that big of draining was just enough to put him on his a**. Fafnir really had very little sympathy for him. It was incredibly stupid to be out at night in that condition, in this heat, and not expect something bad to happen to you.
At least it made his job easier. Another one or two like this, and he might even finish his quota early. That was almost unheard of... extra time to do whatever he wanted with? He had a pool at home that was calling to him, and he was so ready to slip into the cool water.
Lights traced patterns over the brick wall as Fafnir patiently worked, the traffic of the city at night a pleasant, familiar hum beyond the darkness where he stood with his target.

It was one of the first times Tyrannosaurus found herself lamenting her outfit. While rad to look at, and making her feel like an adventuring badass, having an outer coat on top of her shirt and vest made for too many layers in this heat. Even now, with the sun gone, it felt like the air was on fire and that gravity was somehow twice as strong because of it.
The increasingly familiar thud of a body meeting something solid reached her ears.
At least it was a distraction. She rolled up her sleeves for two reasons, tucking her hair up into her hat as best she could. Following the aura, which she had almost missed in her distraction and was now rather stunned considering how obvious it was, she hurried as quickly as she could while also bearing in mind that she did not want to sweat.
"Hey!" She spotted the attacker and their victim and her mind registered her target. Almost nothing else mattered. She knew too much talking usually meant getting punched or stabbed, and she also was well aware that her power was not increasing at the rate she was hoping. She needed to capitalize on whatever advantages she could, whenever she could, and she wash hoping this counted. Even if it felt a little cheap.
She was behind him, and she charged. Pulling back her arm, she swung her fist for the back of his head.
Fafnir started as he heard a shout from behind him.
Idiot... not paying attention! He'd totally missed the power signature approaching as he'd focused on pulling energy from the man in front of him. At least they'd warned him before they charged in. The corrupt whipped his head around and saw the punch coming, jerking himself out of the path of that fist before it could connect.
Luckily, he wasn't holding onto the guy, and that gave him the freedom to scramble out of the way, swinging up his own arm to deflect the oncoming body until he could worm out if it's way. What he found, when he turned, was a young woman, a basic senshi, and he felt his heartbeat ease, a dark smirk curling at the corners of his mouth.
"This is not a fight you can win, I'm afraid." He said as he backed up, putting space between them. Carefully, he tucked the glowing orb into the front of his fuku, freeing up his hands. "You might want to reconsider."

Tyrannosaurs stopped in her tracks once she pulled herself back far enough to catch her footing. She had put a lot into that swing, and missing almost sent her falling on her own face instead of felling the target ahead of her. Maybe she should not have yelled at him beforehand, but some things were just instinct for her.
Being loud was one of them.
She grinned, holding up a gloved hand to point at him confidently, only for her hand to waver a bit as she looked him over. Really, it was the weight of his aura that really struck her, at last, and she found herself reeling for a moment. It felt very wrong, twisted in a way she had not encountered before.
The Senshi of Fossils hesitated.
"Oh yeah?" she heard some cocky brat with her voice saying, realizing too late she was speaking through a toothy grin that had no business being on her face when her teeth felt like clattering. "Well, you're going to wish you were extinct! I don't have to win, I just have to stop you!"
She growled, raising her fists and steeling herself. She was not afraid of bad guys: no matter how strong they were, or how spooky they felt. She was a hero, and there was a person in danger. All she had to do was break it down to its basic elements, focus on the most important, and let her instincts guide her.
Fafnir very nearly rolled his eyes at her blustering. Had she been a higher rank, he might have taken it more seriously. Would he tell her that he already had what he needed, and the only way to 'stop' him would be to take away the energy orb he carried? No. Of course not. He was confident, not stupid.
With the momentary pause between them, he stole a moment to look her over and asses, taking in the Adventurer outfit she wore and the confidence she projected. Cocky. Someone was going to put her in her place some day, he felt sure of that, but it was not likely going to be him or today. And that was fine. He risked getting hurt doing it, and he preferred not. Better to take the smarter path.
"Wither and Die." He retorted as he drew a deep breath. Pursing his lips, he blew and a dark, boiling cloud of vapor left his mouth, rolling towards her and spreading as it went. It had a sickly color to it, hanging heavy and dank in the air, a putrid smell seeping into everything it touched.
It was only after he ran out of breath that he realized what she'd said, and linked it with her costume.
"Did... did you make an archeology joke?" He said, his voice high with incredulity.
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Fafnir's Blight Fafnir blows out a cloud of sickly purple gas that saps the energy and health of those who stumble into it. Those caught within the cone will see signs of disease on expose skin and eyes, and are significantly sickened by it as it saps their energy and health, affecting their performance. The gas can travel up to ten feet, but fades away after a few seconds. The effect can last up to 30 seconds. Breathing does not affect it, and he can use it twice per battle.

Sailor Scout Attack: Feeding Time! Sailor T-Rex can summon the ghostly image of a skeletal Tyrannosaurus Rex’s head above her, which roars at an ear piercing pitch and causes a mild, temporary paralysis. The effect is not in the sound itself, but rather a shock wave that emanates from Sailor T-Rex in a five-foot radius around her. Unless someone is standing within that range, even if they hear the roar, they will not be affected by the attack. Likewise, if they are inside the range but cannot hear the roar, they will not be affected. The paralysis lasts up to 15 seconds. The strength of her opponent can impact this. She can use this attack two times per power up due to power strain.
Wither and what now? Tyrannosaurus was not sure she liked the sound of that, and threw her hands up in front of her as she waved them awkwardly.
"Whoa, whoa, wait a sec-"
She took a step back, holding her breath but realizing very quickly that it did nothing to help her. She wobbled, feeling nauseous and thoroughly unwell. As someone who very rarely got sick, with the fortitude of a horse, it was a sudden and rather scary difference. Her hands shook, and she stumbled backwards.
She heard his voice, though, looking at him in mild horror as she tried to put a bit more distance between them and ended up tripping and falling onto her butt.
"Well. Yeah. I'm the Senshi of Fossils," she whined, anger surging in her at being teased. She had always been told, growing up, she had a bit of a temper. "And I've got magic too! IT'S FEEDING TIME!" Her head was already swimming, even as her magic coiled above her and the skeletal image of a dinosaur began to form.
He almost, almost paused to pinch the bridge of his nose. Right here, in the middle of what was shaping up to be a fight. Not one he expected himself to lose, but considering how careful he always was, the urge was strong.
Senshi of Fossils? Of ******** course.
At least his attack had knocked her on her a**, and for a moment, looking down at her, he had a dark satisfaction over it. Surely she had second thoughts about all of this now, and had reconsidered the wisdom of attacking someone stronger than she was. He'd always been so careful about, always aware of the differences between himself and others, that every time someone had the arrogance to pick a fight with him... he couldn't help wanting to put them in their place and teach then better manners.
Pushing aside the consternation about her sphere and what she'd said, he paced forward to stand over her, more than ready to gloat just a little. Maybe put the fear of god into her... but this feisty red head was not as cowed as he had thought.
Feeding time?
Crap, that was a magic signal. Fafnir braced himself, unsure what form her magic would take, but what he got took him entirely by surprise. Something huge appeared above her, all bones and teeth and hollow eye sockets. The massive jaws split, sending a surge of fear through him, and then sound poured from it. A roar that shook his whole body and made him clap his hands over his ears in reaction. He froze like that, his muscles locked up, lips pulled back from his teeth in a snarl.

Do not puke.
It was the main thing on her mind, even above the instincts to be afraid and the ones to be incredibly pissed off. She needed to focus, but everything was fighting for attention. None so vehemently as the feeling of rising bile in her throat, however.
Never had her magic felt so draining before. Was that a side effect of his magic? Or just something in her mind? Was there a difference at this point? She had no answers and did not bother to let the questions take up too much brain space, shoving them aside to force herself to focus on the moment.
She had created a space. Two options appeared.
The sensible: that his freezing for the chance that it was, and run the hell away from there as fast as her very shaky and jello-y legs would take her. The ridiculous: get a little revenge. She clenched her fists, snarling as she got to her feet. As badly as she wanted to punch him properly, she knew the magic would not last long. Maybe less than she was used to, because he was, despite her pride not wanting to admit it, stronger than she was.
"Don't think I'll forget you. I'll get stronger, and I'll smash you to dust. There won't be anything left of you to fossilize," she said stiffly, swallowing hard before turning tail and running as fast as she could. She was just hoping her magic would last long enough for her to find a good hiding place and power down.
Fafnir fought against the paralysis, his muscles trembling with effort. Trapped like this, even a basic level senshi could do some damage to him and desperation had his heart pounding in his head and skin going clammy.
He watched as the girl got up, all bluster and anger, her body tight as a coiled spring. He would have snarled at her if he'd been able to move his face.
There won't be anything left of you to fossilize. He wanted to groan... Really?
All he could do was seethe as he saw her turn and run, taking advantage of catching him with her magic to beat a retreat. As the paralysis faded, his stance eased and a growl rolled in his throat, blue eyes glaring daggers after the fleeing figure. Shaking himself all over, he finally shed the last dregs and was left standing alone in the alley. Or mostly alone.
The man he'd been draining groaned as he stirred and Fafnir swore, darting a hand into his uniform to find... nothing. That annoying little senshi had broken his concentration and the energy had escaped, ruining all the work he'd put in on this hot, muggy night.
The string of swearing chased the senshi as she fled.
