Quote: The Fireflies (6) : In the warm summer nights, little glowing lights begin to bob and dart through the city. Fireflies are mating, so this isn't uncommon in itself; in the past few days you've probably seen hundreds of fireflies. What makes these lights so unique is that they seem to change color; you might see a blue one, a green one, a red one. They flicker randomly, and something just seems off with them. If you come into contact with one, you will find yourself with a strange electric jolt. They cannot be caught, and will flicker away if you pursue too aggressively. This isn’t the first time they’ve appeared in Destiny City, but no one’s been able to tell where they came from or where they’re going. No matter how quickly you chase them, they always seem to disappear before you can find any answers. Angelica was hurrying, two slushies held in her hands. The heat wasn’t quite bad enough that she feared them melting before she could get back to Sappho, but she didn’t really want to chance that either.
“Sappho!” Her voice was louder than she had expected, but she hurried over to the Dark Mirror Senshi and held out the cup. “Blue Raspberry for you, and…well. It was Bisexual for me. But now it just looks like grape.”
She took a slow, careful sip and grinned. “...Blue raspberry and cherry is what I normally get, and when they first mix it…well. I’m sure you can understand.”
Obviously. Wow. Now she…felt a little silly. But not too silly but.
“Ah, yes. Anyway. Drinks. Enjoy it!” And with that, she plopped herself down on the bench next to her friend and took a very unwise, long pull of the drink, wincing when the shooting pain from the cold hit her head. Though, as she closed her eyes in pain, and then squinted, making a face as though that would stop the brain freeze, she thought she saw a strange blinking blue light. And then a green one.
She paused, still squinting and then saw a red one too.

It was just...really good, to spend time around Angelica. Sappho found that it made her incredibly happy; that she felt, often, like she really had found something--or, well, someone--pretty special, in this new friend.
She took the slushie with a bright grin, and laughed at Angelica's description of her preferred flavor. "Oh, man, it would look like the bi flag, wouldn't it?"
Okay, so! Her new friend was into girls! Sappho had pretty much already deduced that, considering how long Angelica had stared at her chest when she demonstrated where corrupts had visible holes.
"Any combo of colors I'd get to get the lesbian flag would probably taste weird together, alas." She sighed. "Also, I just really like blue raspberry."
She took a sip of her own drink, politely not commenting on Angelica's obvious case of brain freeze, but her eyes did flicker around them to take in the....colors.
"Are those...fireflies?" No way. Fireflies came in yellow. Not...the whole rainbow.

“I…” Angelica winced, rubbing her head to really force back the pain but shrugged. “I’ve never seen fireflies in those colors but. I can’t think of anything else it might be. Maybe…it’s like. GMO fireflies for pride month? I wouldn’t be mad if that’s the case.”
She watched them for a moment, taking a much smaller sip of her drink when the pain had finally vanished. “...I love fireflies though. When I was younger.” Angelica grimaced. “This isn’t a great story, just a quick warning but. When I was younger my father would smack them with a wiffle ball bat and it would glow. It…made me cry a lot but he always did it. I wonder what makes them glow like that. I suppose I never really thought of it.”
Honestly, she halfway hoped one would come closer so she could take a look at it. Maybe it was a new species of firefly…not that they could get any credit for finding a new species but. Still.
“...They’re really pretty, at any rate.”

Sappho tilted her head to the side, thoughtfully. "Oh, yeah, like the glowing stuff that they're making in labs? That....would actually be pretty cool." Rainbow fireflies for pride. Hah. She'd have to tell Murikabushi, he'd probably get a kick out of the concept.
Angelica's story, though, made her lips turn down in a frown. That was....not fun, or cute, or...
"That seems so mean, just....hitting them like that, especially if it made you cry," she said, and her eyes moved back tot he fireflies as she took a sip of her slushie. "I think it's like...a chemical? In those glow butts? Or something?" So, that would have been what was getting on the bat, which....
Sappho sighed. People were weird. Cruel, sometimes, in strange ways.
"So, besides bi pride slushies, what do you like?" Sappho asked. "Food, drinks, activities, whatever." She just....wanted to know more about her friend.

“I’m really into photography, and um. My biggest guilty pleasure is actually ah. Reality TV. It’s always good to see people’s lives a mess…it makes me feel so much better about my own. And it’s what gets me through the day sometimes, honestly.” Angelica gave a rueful little smile as though this was going to be a great shame and would lead to her friend just…leaving. Honestly, she wouldn’t be terribly surprised but.
“As for food, I honestly think I could happily live off of mozzarella sticks if we’re being completely honest. One day I hope to turn into one, like the do in those heartburn commercials.”
She took another sip of her drink and then waggled her eyes at Sappho. “And you, my leasbian darling? Tell me about you too! It can’t just be me talking tonight or you’ll never talk to me again.”

Sappho laughed--not meanly, but delightedly, a broad smile crossing her face. "Oh, man, yeah, there is nothing like watching a bunch of weirdos be super messy, right? And no matter hat nonsense I get into, I will always know that it is less nonsense than that." She shook her head. "Photography sounds really cool! I can take a decent selfie, but not much else."
And, ah, mozzarella sticks. Sappho sighed contentedly just thinking about them.
"As for me...I tripped and fell face-first into Our Flag Means Death, because, you know, gay pirates, so I have been writing truly astronomical amounts of fanfiction." Which, hopefully, Angelica wouldn't judge her for. "Otherwise, I really like musical theater, so lately I have been just the most obsessed with Hadestown? It's really great, a cool retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice story." She paused, thoughtfully. "Food...man. Blueberry scones. My mom likes to home-bake them, and they're so good, you would absolutely not believe. Maybe I can bring some next time we hang out, if you think you'd like to try that?"
She kind of hoped so. It would be nice to share something from her family with her new friend.

Angelica took a mental note of that show…anything involving gay pirates sounded…well. Amazing. “I’ve never heard of Hadestown, but I’ll look it up when I get home, and yes! I’d love to try some scones next time we hang out!”
Especially because it meant that there would be a next time that they hung out…and that just.
Sounded utterly fantastic.
