The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains:

Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park.

The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.”

If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

Clayton looked at the tree he didn't know what he wanted to wish for, he didn't know what he wanted. He stood there with the paper in his hand and he frowned looking down at the paper. Did he wish for his memory back, not really? He had changed a lot since before he had been hurt the scar on his face was a reminder of that. His cover story as a civilian was that he had been hit by a car. Which it had felt like when he had been attack, he had recently remembered some of what happened.

He had been so stupid and arrogant he deserved to have his a** handed to him. He had gotten off lucky to get away with his life. He looked up at the tree and wrote something down. He wished that this year would be better than the last. That was a good wish. All he could do was keep moving forward. He couldn't just stand in one place if he hoped to improve his mirror world if he didn't do something his world would wither. He couldn't let that happen. It depended on him. So he had to step up.

Every year, without fail, Amaris came to the Wishing Tree. It was what she did! It was what people did, in general, given how many wishes were on it.

It wasn't hard to figure out what she wanted this year, the same as it was never hard to figure out what she wanted every single year-- I wish my family stays safe and out of danger. She'd wished this every time, without fail, and it had... generally seemed to work? Inasmuch as, like, these things ever actually worked and weren't just placebo effect writ large, or whatever.

Zinnia awakening as a Senshi hadn't really been part of that, but she hadn't gotten into any youma fights that Anakeion hadn't also been there for, so it seemed to be working out along the right lines.

Looking down at her wish, she wasn't paying attention to the world around her as she walked towards the tree, so when Amaris walked right into the guy she was more disappointed in herself than surprised. "Oh, s**t," she said, "I am so sorry, did you drop anything??"

Clayton was caught off guard when he was knocked into, once he gathered his wits he shook his head. "No I wasn't carrying anything and I had already tied my wish to the tree, did you drop anything?" He asked looking around them to see if they had lost anything in the collison. It wasn't like she had hurt him so there had been no harm done at all. "No harm done, I'm fine." He said in an even tone. He really wasn't upset he got distracted at times as well. He found his thoughts wandering a number of times in the past few months.

"Uhhh." It wasn't an eloquent option as far as possible things she could have said went, but, hey, Amaris was only eloquent when she wasn't going through a whole apology arc. "I, uh." She squinted, looked down, took a second for her brain to jar into functioning again: "I dropped my wish?? I think?? I was, like, just looking at it, iunno where it could've gone," but sure enough, it wasn't in her hand anymore.

"Oh, man, come on... it's gotta be around here somewhere, right?"

Clay spotted the piece of paper quickly and reached for it. He moved to grab it but wasn't sure if he was going to knock heads with the girl who was also looking for her wish, or if something else odd might occur. His focus was elsewhere at the time so he wasn't really thinking about what was going on just trying his best to fix the situation that they had somehow bumbled into. He paused in his movements and looked up to see what the girl was doing. He hoped she had calmed down.

Amaris was busy enough thinking about oh, god, how'd I drop it?? impressively kinda clumsy, wow, can't believe it wasn't at my feet that she barely even noticed when the other guy kneeled down to look for her wish (scrawled in mildly smeared red pen, one i dotted with a heart - but only one, she'd just managed a wildly lopsided dot and tried to counterbalance it; writing angled, like she'd started too large and had to rapidly ensmallen her text, which was exactly what had happened), too distracted-slash-occupied with potential outcomes and second-guessing her own thoughts -- had she been holding it when she'd walked into him, even? She was pretty sure she had, maybe eighty to ninety percent, but last night she'd been eighty to ninety percent sure about where she'd left a shirt and had then discovered she'd left it in another room entirely. So maybe, maybe -

Whatever she was doing or thinking about, it was clear from even the most cursory outside perspective that Amaris had gotten distracted and was, for this point in time, not going to be a lot of help. Not that she was needed to be.

Clay's hand hit Amaris' as they grabbed for the paper at the same time, he looked up and then let go. "Oh well I guess you found it, you know for your wish to come true they say you have to full fill someone elses wish. " He was curious "Are you willing to tell me what your wish is?" He asked in a gentle tone. He didn't want to freak her out if she had written something personal that she didn't want a boy to know. Then again perhaps she would tell him and it was fate that they had bumped into each other in the first place.

"Oh! Uh, yeah, no, it's not, like." Amaris shrugged and scratched at her neck, awkwardly. "It's not a personal thing?? It's just that I want my family to stay, like, safe." She paused for a second - was that enough, did she need to expand on it - and decided she did. "My sister's fifteen, and you know how many teenagers go missing, especially in the summer, so... it's not really a wish you can, like, fulfill, it just makes me feel better putting it up there."

Clayton nodded and listened to her, but he didn't agree with her, not that he could tell her that. He would follow her later as Morpheus and see if he could find this sister of hers and make it a point to protect her. That was a wish he could grant not that he would ever tell her that.

Amaris gave it a second to see if he had anything more to say -- then she spun on her heel, fired off a cheery salute at the guy, and headed off towards the Wishing Tree proper to actually put her wish up.

...Ideally without walking into anyone, this time.
