The Mysterious Merchant

User Image

Destiny City was a metropolis that never slept. During all hours of the day and night, the city was alive and bustling. Even miles away, the sounds of the city carried on the wind. Forests hugged the city and hills of all sizes peppered the land the further out it went.

Destiny City was as much of a tourist trap as any major city could be expected to be--only, there was something a little extra special about it.

Destiny City was full of magic. So much so that their visitors came from all across the state, the country, the world.

The galaxy.

Atop a hill a mile and a half out of the major city and with a perfect view of the towering skyscrapers, someone has set up shop. This year, he has a single table, covered in a dark purple table cloth with extravagant embroidery.

The table had an array of oddly shaped trinkets and baubles on display. A briefcase lay on the ground, just out of sight, and close to their visitor's chair.

A stranger to some, but not all, the merchant sat, fingers laced and elbows propped atop the table, and watched the city glimmer in the night.

As he always did, he arrived with the meteor shower.

Almadel had been good this year. He hadn't arrived with any trouble. He hadn't broken anything, hadn't lost anything.

He was just here for good, clean business. And yet, his eyes twinkled almost as much as the stars in the sky.

He had no energy signature of his own, but then, he didn’t need one. He’d been to this planet and others, and it only took a little help to get his customers running. On the edge of the table, closest to him, a little box was open and a tiny star hovered a few inches above the open box. It had an unmistakable aura--and it was calling to anyone who cared to listen.

He had a barrier in place--a strange, watery bubble that spanned fifty feet in all directions. The strange shield reflects light and has the unique ability to make it appear as though there's nothing inside--and, more than that, if he doesn't want to be disturbed, he can adjust the barrier so anyone attempting to enter it will pass straight through to the other side, as if they walked in a straight line through empty space. If this extra defense is in place, no one can pass through the barrier, nor can any light or sound. When Almadel is out, so too is a sign; painted in fancy, iridescent ink, elegantly scrawled, it reads ‘Temporarily Closed for Business.’

Unlike much of the universe, Earth was bustling with life.

He was going to make the best of his time, here.

INFORMATION AND RULES

A strange alien has appeared in Destiny City and has set up a table full of goods. He has an array of strange, unfamiliar items. Some are beautiful, some are old, some are bland and some seem simply indescribable. He treats all of his wares like treasures and waits for visitors to trade with. He will do business with anyone, from any faction, or even just civilians. He is stationed in a singular location and can be found here for the duration of the event, however his barrier makes it impossible to ambush him. Passing through the barrier is a comfortable sensation that feels like stepping out of the summer heat and into an air conditioned room. His intentions are unclear except for one thing: he wants you to trade.

To interact with the character you must fill out the following form and send it to The Space Cauldron along with the link to a roleplay start using the prompt below. This prompt counts for Bingo and Individual Participation Rewards!

Form:
Quote:
Character: (Link to the journal of the character you will be using; your character may be powered or unpowered for this!)
Information: (What topics most interest your character and what information would they be tempted by? If your character is not looking for information, you can put N/A!)
Item to Acquire: (Please describe an item you would like your character to receive; if you cannot think of anything specifically, some general ideas of things of interest can be used and staff will come up with an item for you. These items can be artifacts from their original homeworld or wonder (even if corrupted presently) and can be identifiable either by an intense feeling or by having the same symbol. These items may have a passive magical ability related to something in your character’s past world. If it is to have a magical ability it should be something subtle, such as being warm to the touch, having a magical, nostalgic aroma, or being reminiscent of your character’s sphere or planetary abilities. These items are not powerful and do not function like IC RP Items or Permanent items. They will have no advantage in battle. If your character has a close bond to another character, with their player’s permission, you may instead find an item that belongs to that character. All items must be small enough to fit comfortably on a six-foot long table.)
Item to Trade: (Please describe an item your character will be using to barter with Almadel. He will not take all items so we want to work with players to make sure they have something worthwhile for him to barter for. He favors antiques from Homeworlds and Wonders, including books, weapons, and artifacts; Dark Mirror Senshi can find crystals and gemstones in Mirrorspace, or they may find that these things appear in pockets or their subspace while Mirrorwalking; Negaverse characters can find crystals and gemstones in the Rift, or old, unreadable books or household artifacts in the Dark Kingdom if they think Metallia won’t miss it; they can also trade starseeds or energy orbs. Vanguardians can trade for gemstones or mineral samples they might have picked up while on previous excursions (limited to unnamed asteroids they may have been visiting while on a training mission to mine for resources). Though he prefers valuables and rarities that he could not acquire himself, it is also possible to trade with things found on Earth, including jewelry, technology, antiques, art, and food. ICly he can be picky, but OOCly staff will work with players to make sure they have something he wants!)
Roleplay Link: (Please start a new roleplay quoting the following prompt in your first post as well as your response to it; you may do group roleplays if you don’t want to do a one on one, however all participating players need to be listed and need to fill out this form)

RP Start Prompt:
Quote:
It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored, even as he leaned forward and laced his fingers atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.

He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.

His table was somehow both simple and overwhelming; it was draped in a dark purple tablecloth, with extravagant embroidery in different designs. Scattered neatly atop the table was an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.

He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing that the barrier surrounding him rippled when his visitor entered, he smiled.

He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes and greeted, in a silky voice, “Welcome.”

Rules

Quote:
  • You must complete the above form and PM it to The Space Cauldron; you will need to start the roleplay and quote the previous prompt in your first post as you respond to it.
  • You may roleplay one on one or in a group; unlike in previous years, Almadel is not looking for anything in particular. You must be prepared to bribe him with something in your possession! He is shrewd and cannot be easily deceived, but he has a unique way of appraising things.
  • Any character can participate in this, civilian or powered!
  • You can only do one RP per character, but you can do this for as many characters as you like.
  • You can investigate items on the table but you cannot take anything without permission.
  • You may ask Almadel questions; he may give you correct or incorrect information. If you have any special requests for a conversation topic, please make sure to include it in the form you sent in.
  • This mysterious stranger does not respond to hostilities; if you attack him or try to steal from him, he will dispel you outside the barrier.
  • If you want to roleplay with the merchant but don’t think you’ll have time to do that and participate in the rest of the event, you can send in the form and start the roleplay at any point in time, including after the end of the event; you simply need to communicate this information with the mule.
  • Tags from the mule will come as quickly as possible but we ask for patience!
