Leander knew about his sister’s dating life. He usually avoided asking about it because he didn’t want to know more. She liked to tease him, so he knew it was a dangerous topic, but he couldn’t help it.
He’d seen seventeen different advertisements for engagement rings and wedding venues, and honestly he started to worry.
He hoped it wasn’t a sign. Hoped it wasn’t something everyone was seeing.
So, when he got home from the store, he’d played it cool. Made the three of them a nice lunch that they shared together before Kelly had to step out. He was just cleaning up when he couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Hey, Sophie.”
He wiped off the counter. "How come you don't invite anyone over, do we need to get a bigger place?"

Sophie paused, looking up from her phone and raising a brow at her brother. “What do you mean? I’ve had people over a lot…you’re just out on patrol or something so you haven’t seen. But my friend Rosie? She’s a corrupted senshi and she’s been over twice now. I keep wanting to introduce you two but we get distracted.”
She made a face and shrugged. “I want to bring Freya over but we just haven’t made plans yet, and you met Ren already. What, do you want me to bring my whole harem over, Leander? Or, is this a not so subtle way of you asking why I haven’t found you the person of your dreams yet, because I swear I am still looking. Promise.”
Well…maybe not really still looking. But she thought about it every once and a while. Sort of.
…Mostly when she was talking with Leander but, he didn’t need to know that.

Leander snorted and gave her a look. A harem! His baby sister! A harem! And she said it so casually, what was the Negaverse doing to her!
“That’s not what I mean, no. I meant, I hardly know most of these people, but they’re clearly important to you. Are they like, flings? Or are they people that you’re going to be with in the long run? Like–you know. Are you thinking long term relationships, or are you just living in the here and now?”
He wasn’t prying! He was just curious! She was his little sister, of course he was going to worry. And, it’s not like they had parents to fuss about them or guide them or make sure they were doing well.
They hadn’t had the best parents, and maybe he felt like he had to pull some of the weight there.

She shrugged. “I’m not really sure right now. I like them all a great deal, I think Ren is my absolute favorite, if I could, he’d be the one that I’d settle down with, but…none of them really want things that hardcore, you know? It’s all just going with the flow. We make each other happy and we feel good while doing it.”
There was no way that Sophie was going to go into details but…he would understand at least a little, she was sure. “Honestly, the only two that I’m remotely serious…ish with are Ren and Freya. Rosie’s just fun to roll around with. But, you don’t need to know about my sex life, Leander!”
The laughter wasn’t able to be stopped though, especially since she knew that the very idea would leave him uncomfortable…she felt bad about it but…it was somewhat amusing.

Leander immediately groaned and raised a hand to rub at his face like he just could not with her.
He kept his face buried for a few seconds before he sighed, “Sophie.”
When he looked at her, he was just exasperated.
“I don’t want to know about your frivolities, I was just thinking about, you know–long term.”
He’d heard her talk about everyone but he didn’t know what types of plans she had and he couldn’t help but wonder what the end game was about all of these relationships. Maybe he was too old school and was just focused on what a relationship was supposed to end up as instead of just enjoying what it was in the moment.
“I just care about you, you know.” He didn’t want her heart to get broken, he didn’t know if he was supposed to be planning to integrate these current lovers into their family in some way. She’d been through a lot–both of his poor sisters had. He couldn’t help but want to do everything in his power to make sure they were comfortable, and happy.
And, that included worrying about their–
Well.
Lovers.
“Don’t know if there’s someone I’m supposed to be playing extra nice with and all. But you’d tell me if things were looking really serious, wouldn’t you?”

“Oh my god, Leander. Why are you just so fun to tease?”
Sophie’s face was red with the struggle to not laugh, but finally she just shook her head, letting out a laugh that lasted long enough that it became difficult to breathe, but after a minute or two, Sophie nodded. “Leander, I swear if it ever gets to the point where we’re thinking about marriage or moving in together, of course I’ll tell you. You’re my brother, and the closest person to me in my life. Honestly, you and Kelly would have to fill in for parents and that’s perfectly okay.”
She hesitated and got up, moving to hug him tightly. “There’s literally nothing to worry about right now. Nothing’s so serious that we need to plan for kids or a wedding dress. I’m just a normal twenty year old who’s enjoying freedom. I might not remember my life before, but I’m quite sure I never got this back when I was a civilian. I’m just…working really hard to figure out who I am, you know?”
And enjoying how nice it felt to figure it out with other people.

Leander let her laugh, but he looked exasperated the whole time. Almost annoyed, but she was too endearing and he loved her too much to be agitated because of this conversation.
How could he be mad when she seemed so happy?
Even if it was at his expense, ugh.
When she got up for a hug, he immediately draped his arms over her shoulders and hugged her close.
She’d said that he and Kelly would have to fill in for parents, which really just only confirmed a thought lingering in the back of his mind already.
“I know,” he sighed. He kissed atop her head and then just planted his chin there so he could tuck her into his neck. “Maybe that’s why I worry so much. In a good way, not in a clingy, overbearing parent way. It’s just new to me too. I want you to be happy and I’m glad you’re getting to explore all of this freedom. I know it’s all new for you. And I’ll be here to support you through anything. But I have seen a lot of advertisements for marriage and engagement parties and venues, I was worried the universe might be tempting you or your lovers. I’m really glad to hear how happy you are, though. I’m glad you’ve got that chance now, Sophie.”
Even if it was all a big change for him, too.

“No, no I promise I haven’t had any kind of marriage on my mind at all. No need to worry…but. I’m glad that you do worry…it makes me feel safe and warm and happy, and I wouldn’t trade you for the biggest harem in the city, I hope you know.”
Sophie squeezed her brother tightly and gave a small, wistful sigh. “...You’re the greatest big brother in the whole world, and that fact has never changed, no matter how much I might.”
He loved her. More than she could fathom, probably. But, it just meant that she was the luckiest girl in the world, and that was the truth no matter how you looked at it.
