It was long after the stupid magic had worn off, but Sophie still found herself sniffing slightly, arms wrapped around her chest in spite of how warm the night was. She made it to Ren’s apartment and hesitated before knocking, hoping that he was home. If he wasn’t. If he was out or on patrol or just…busy.
…Honestly? She wasn’t sure what she would do.
Things didn’t really upset her like this. Not anymore. Not since her corruption. Not since shedding the weak thing she had been before…but.
With a sniffle, she knocked on Ren’s door, face set in a mask of pure misery.
She wasn’t weak, and she knew that she was loved. Ren loved her, Freya loved her, her siblings loved her…and there would be more. She knew that there would be more. But.
Knocking again, Sophie bit her lip hard to hold back a sob.
Damnit. He needed to be home. She needed to be held and reassured very badly right now.

Ren blinked, looking up from the physics papers across his his floor, and glanced at the door. He did a mental review if he'd ordered anything to arrive today. He hadn't ordered food, and he hadn't ordered anything that would arrive this late. HIs heckles raised. Had his father finally figured out his address? He'd done his best to disguise where he actually was, but it was always a chance that Sloan would find him.
Or someone else.
The knock came again. Ren pulled the switchblade from its place behind the key rack and cracked the door, chain not removed from the door.
"Excuse me--- Sophie!?" he said, blinking at the clearly about to sob girl in front of the door. "Hold on." He closed the door, putting the switchblade back in its hiding place and removing the chain. He opened the door again and pulled her inside, pressing her hard against his chest.
"Sophie, Sophie baby what's wrong?"

Oh. Oh it was always so nice to be with Ren. Ren always felt like home. Just like Mourite always had. Kanen. Her other half. Her everything.
The moment Sophie was safe in his arms, she sniffled and looked up at him, tears pouring unheeded from her eyes. “...I’m so sorry to sound so whiny but. You love me, don’t you? You promise that you do? I…I know that you do. I know that I’m not. I mean. There was a stupid. Stupid Squire who hit me with her magic and I just…”
She pressed closer, arms wrapping around the male tightly, squeezing him close. “...It felt so real. That nobody loved me. That nobody would ever love me…I…I know that it was just magic! I’m not stupid. I’ve been studying senshi magic but this…I don’t know…this one…it hurt so badly…and it felt so real...”
Sophie hiccupped and trembled slightly. “...You are still…still in love with me, Ren…right?”

Ren guided her towards the couch, pulling her into his lap. He pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. The squire made her feel like no one loved her... good grief. Knight magic was brutal. He gently grabbed her face with both hands, wiping a tear with his thumb.
"Sophie, my little star," he said softly, "You are my bright light amongst the dark, Sophie. Had things been different, and you asked me to step into the light, to forsake everything I know, I would have. For you. I will always be your knight in shining armor, whether its light or dark." Ren pressed his lips to her cheek bones to soak up her tears.
"I love you Sophie. Nothing will ever change that," he told her firmly, maroon eyes locked on hers.
He was going to find this squire that made his stardust cry, and make them pay.

She relaxed with his words, with his arms around her, with the feeling of his body under hers, though…
When he spoke of stepping into the light, she drew away slightly, scoffing and scrubbing at her eyes. “Love. Don’t ever say something like that…first off I wouldn’t have…and second off…the thought of you as a weak little nothing knight makes me…feel kind of sick, to be honest…”
Sophie shuddered but then relaxed again, allowing herself to just get lost in his gaze. “I’m glad that nothing will ever change it. You’re simply wonderful, and I’m so lucky to have you in my life and by my side…you’ve always been my favorite person in this whole thing…and I know I’ve loved you since…well. Almost since we first met. My fantastic Jedi.”
It had been magic. Nothing more. Magic that conjured lies. Magic that brought doubts…
Ren loved her. Others loved her too but. It was Ren who she had come to…Ren who she knew would always be by her side. There were no doubts about that.

He chuckled softly and rubbed her back. "Fair enough, no talk of being a weak little knight. I just meant that you mean the world to me, and I would have done whatever you wanted, love," he said as Sophie settled back into his arms. Ren ignored the part of his brain that wondered if Sophie had just not given the whole knight thing more a chance, and if he'd just pulled her into the fold too easily. He ignored the part that dreamed of starlight and the cosmos and floating among nebulae.
His home was firmly rooted here on Earth, not among the stars above.
"Well if you ever see that squire again, let me know, and I'll give 'em a piece of my mind. And my claws. No one harms my stardust without consequences," he said, kissing her temple and stroking her hair. "Anything you wanna do now that you're here?"
He ignored the way the whispering stone burned a hole in his back pocket.
