The past year had been the busiest that Yokka could remember. After the Misty Maiden had reached Kahikina, there was a flurry of ship repairs and alterations, stocking up of supplies, exploring the new world, and preparing for the next step of their trip. Once they had a bounty of stock for the next port, it was off to the lands of Matori and Oba. The whole trip was nothing but new experiences. Meeting the Kahikinans, exploring the so-called "main land" of Tendaji, experiencing the different cultures first hand.. It was all so thrilling.
Yet, the new experience that made her heart flutter the most was Emiyn. They may have said that they would "try" a relationship, but there was no real trying involved in her mind. It happened so fluidly, their bond blossoming into something she had idly believed she would never have. She might not have been the most openly affectionate girlfriend, but she made her growing love and devotion for Emiyn quite clear. By now, her little suite on the ship had been expanded to fit both of them, Yokka utterly unapologetic when she ordered her neighbor to switch rooms with Emiyn in order to combine the two spaces. There was still so much to learn and feel being in such an intimate relationship while also continuing their professional existence.. but it worked.
Of course, it was eventually time to head back to Belrea. The idea of telling her family about Emiyn was making her surprisingly nauseous... At least, that was what she had assumed. When yet another morning came to find her hanging over the port side railing of the ship near the stern... she was wondering if it was more than just nerves.

So much had changed since he had been basically dropped off in Belrea without a penny to his name. A year ago he would have never guessed how far he was willing to go with the crew, but now they were basically like family to him. While Emiyn knew he would have to visit home one day the Matorian was happy enough getting correspondence now that he had set up a stable life for himself as navigator for the Misty Maiden. In the near future though he hoped to take the time to bring Yokka to his little Matori village and show her around. He would have to introduce her to his grandparents and his mentor one day. It would only be customary since they were a couple now. The very thought brought a warmth to his usually cool expression, the Matorian very obvious in his feelings towards their first mate. Yokka was the main reason he had lingered on the ship instead of venturing away when they were in port since he had asked her to try a relationship out with him and honestly it felt almost too natural the way they worked around each other. They weren't the most fiery of couples, he would leave the feisty sparks and playful fighting to the other dramatic pair on the crew, but there was a comfortable bond that made him feel at home whenever he was with Yokka. He was also fairly good at observing certain things which was why he appeared with a steaming cup of tea for the geian as she pulled back from the railing.
"Do you need to visit the healer?" He found himself asking with concern as he patiently waited to hand over the tea that would hopefully help calm her stomach. "It seems like bad timing for you to discover that you're sea sick." It was mostly a tease....mostly. His amber gaze was soft as he pondered things. Had Yokka picked up some sort of sickness over the past couple of days?

Her mind was spinning, fighting between wanting to curl up in a ball and the impulse to push through the pain in order to get back to work. There wasn't really that much to do at the moment, but Yokka wasn't used to being restricted by her own body. She had been sick before and could usually hold it down enough to focus on working. This though, there was no control over when she was going to puke up whatever might be in her stomach at the time.
Emiyn's tease made her glare sharply over her shoulder, but she was too tired and unsettled to give it the full impact. A half-hearted eye roll followed, and she groaned to whine about her condition. "Maybe.. I hate this." She sat down on the deck and reached for the tea. "Thanks." One quick sip rinsed out her mouth and another longer sip was savored to relax her muscles.

"I wouldn't say it seems the most pleasant." Offered Emiyn with a slight wince as he watched her drinking the tea. "Should we visit the healer?" Fran was usually helpful even if she had a sharp tongue and a firm way about handling any sickness or injuries on the ship. Emiyn could only appreciate the geian, her piercing gaze making him feel like nothing could sneak around her which was beneficial for a healer who was good at reacting in emergencies and naming any illness. If he knew Yokka well enough she would probably want to avoid going to the healing ward as long as possible since Fran would probably lock her down and keep her from working. Maybe though that would be for the best considering that even Emiyn was worried. It truly wasn't like Yokka to be sick like this.

"That's an understatement," she huffed. It wasn't pleasant in the slightest. The thought of visiting the healer wasn't pleasant either. Especially if her suspicions were true... but maybe she was wrong and was actually sick! Then some sort of potion, maybe a couple more days, and then it would be back to normal.
Then again... would it be so bad?
Lips pressing, she glanced warily up at her partner. What would it be like if they..? Slowly, a little smirk rose and she shook her head. "I'm making you worry. Sorry." With a sigh, she carefully stood and reached out a hand for Emiyn's support. "Just a quick visit. You better not let Fran trap me in there for the rest of the trip."

He would offer to find them calmer waters but the ship was docked so even that wasn't much help. Emiyn pursed his lips thoughtfully before the apology made him blink. "No, no it's quite alright. I just wish I could be more helpful." Healing had never exactly been his speciality after all. His gaze did gleam with amusement at the acceptance of his suggestion. "I'll try my best." He managed with an amused smile. Fran could be quite intimidating when it came to trying to free her patients.
Supporting Yokka, Emiyn helped her below the deck where it was currently quiet. The faint smell of herbs and saltwater mingled together the closer they got to a large curved door with dried herbs hanging above it. It was almost like a bouquet of sorts but it marked the healing ward. A medic with a bit of belief in ocean superstitions the Geian liked to hang up certain things to keep ill luck and certain bugs at bay. As the door opened without a creak it was her pale blue eyes that greeted them from behind a pair of glasses. Strands of wispy green curls fell around the edges of a weathered heart-shaped face that contained an expression that seemed unsurprised at their appearance. "Finally coming for a check in, hmm?" She asked before gesturing for Yokka to follow her. "Do you want him here for the confirmation?" Emiyn flinched as her gaze went from him to Yokka. What was she talking about?

Yokka winced when the healer's door was in sight. She hated going to see the healer. Not that Fran herself was bad, but Yokka always felt a paranoia that she would one day walk in there and end up stuck in one of those awful sick beds.
She rolled her eyes slightly at the initial greeting. "You know you're a last resort," she huffed, slowly releasing her grip on Emiyn. But then- for the confirmation. Yokka stared at the healer for a moment. Confirmation... A wry little smile curved her lips, and she tightened her hold on his arm again. "Yeah. He should be here." Cheeks flushing slightly, she glanced up and gave Emiyn a tug to walk along.

Emiyn found his fingers curling tightly around Yokka's hand. Concerned knotted his stomach but he pressed forward to follow the two along. Was this some sort of planned event? A frown crossed his lips and Fran basically had to pry his fingers from Yokka so that she could have the other geian sit in a chair. "I can't read her pulse if your attached like a barnacle." She commented with amusement before taking Yokka's wrist into her hands.
Emiyn looked almost sheepish but still stayed by Yokka's side as he waited on Fran. "Is...everything okay?" He finally found himself asking after a long moment of silence, the healer listening to Yokkas breathing and pulse.
"Depends on what you consider ok." Quipped back Fran with a wry expression. "She's in perfect health and so is the baby." It was a casual comment but one that made the room spin for Emiyn. Suddenly he was glad for the other chair in the room. "What? Like you didn't see that coming." Fran let out a sigh. "Men are always so dramatic."

Yokka's breathing was shallow but slow, eyes watching Fran's face closely for hints. She needed to be ready for this confirmation. For the actual official word. Was she just weirdly ill, or..?
"The baby," she breathed out, eyes snapping over to Emiyn curiously. How would he react-? Oh! With a small laugh, she slipped from her seat and settled herself onto Emiyn's lap instead. With a rush of emotions changing her smirk by the second, she wrapped her arms around her boyfriend and buried her face against his neck. "Just keep breathing," she said, likely for both of their sakes, voice still rather breathless. As much as she might have suspected it was coming, it was still a shock to her. She was pregnant!

"You're pregnant." Emiyn echoed the confirmation as he wrapped his arms around Yokka in turn. "I guess we did talk about the possibility, but it's so soon." Maybe he had years in mind when he first suggested it but honestly the Matori wasn't upset. If anything his mind was scrambling to try to piece together everything that they would need for the future. "Do we consider names this early? Do we take them sailing or keep them with our family? There's so many things to figure out." He breathed before resting his head against Yokka's side. "We're....we're going to have a baby."
A chuckle escaped Fran as she walked about the room, tossing dried herbs and mixing them together for teas. "Yes, yes. I suppose I should leave you two to discuss all of the options, but here's some teas to help with the sickness. Drink it at least once a day and come back when you're out for another check up. There's a chance anything could happen and I mean anything so no heavy lifting or running about without rest either." She shot Yokka a stern look. "There's others working with ya so let them take on some of the load for once."

It wasn't until Emiyn said it that the heat rose to her eyes. She kept herself burrowed bashfully against his neck to hide her watery gaze. Still, an amused chuckle still slipped out. "A little sooner than I figured it would be," she agreed. The string of questions made her groan with amused annoyance, and one arm rose to hug Emiyn's head against herself to shush him. "There's lots of time to figure all that out," she murmured, savoring the tone of Emiyn's words. He sounded happy.
Of course, then Fran had to ruin the moment. With a quick wipe at her eyes, she looked over to the healer with a glare to spark against that firm gaze. "What do you mean no heavy lifting? That's part of my job here!" She pursed her lips stubbornly. "And I always rest plenty. Just because I'm not slacking in bed like some of those bums around here..." "Plenty" was a relative term, and it wouldn't take that long for Yokka to realize that her current sleep schedule would not be enough. Until then, though, she kept glaring to make her point, still clinging to Emiyn in the meantime.

"Time goes quickly." Came Emiyn's muffled reply from Yokka's side. At least Yokka didn't seem murderous about the news...relief made Emiyn close his eyes, enjoying the moment, before Fran broke the peace.
"And part of my job is to keep the crew safe." Replied Fran without missing a beat. "You're early along and I can't tell how sturdy or...frail the baby will be." She glanced over at the petite Matori and shook her head. "It's early now but within a few months I refuse to see too much of ya with the heavier loads or you'll be bummin it down here with me. Take the tea for now and we'll see about you getting plenty of rest going forward." The healer pressed the bag of prepared herbs into Emiyn's hands. "Keep an eye on her for me or you'll be having more trouble too." Fran warned before turning on her heel. "I have to tend to a couple of others, but I'll be seeing you again in two weeks unless something changes." She waved a hand in the air before walking away, the heels of her boots clacking against the wooden planks.
"Well." Emiyn offered Yokka a sheepish expression. "Tea?"

Well, that had the stubborn Geian's attention. A good majority of the fight left her face as the risks were revealed. She had seen many women pregnant while working the farmlands. It had never crossed her mind that there was any risk involved. Of course, now that she was thinking about it, she did remember a few stories about expectant mothers having troubles... One arm tightened around Emiyn while the other settled over her belly. It was still flat as ever. Still early in the process. Brow knitting, she aimed a hard look at Emiyn after Fran left. "There's no reason our baby would have trouble.. right? It's going to be okay?" Now that she was worrying, she felt her stomach lurch and slapped her hand over her mouth. "I'm gonna puke again," she mumbled against her hand.

"It'll be fine." Emiyn reassured Yokka as he lingered a moment longer before finally breaking apart. His expression held a moment of panic before he found a bucket and brought it over towards Yokka. "We'll just take it day by day. Tea once you can stomach it and then we'll see about everything else. " He pauses a moment as he watched Yokka thoughtfully. "I wonder if we'll have a girl or a boy." He had never had siblings and despite Fran's poke at his more delicate frame didn't think any type of illness ran in his family.

She grunted sharply as she was moved, clenching her teeth against the rolling of her stomach. She clutched the bucket tightly, but the moment passed without incident. She let out a long sigh of relief before her cheeks flushed brightly. She had actually shown concern for a moment there, and then had nearly puked on Emiyn! The only relief was that Fran hadn't been around to see that.
The bucket remained close, but Yokka still set it aside in exchange for the tea bags. "Guess I'll make some now," she murmured quietly, still pulling her mind back from the unexpected panic she had started to feel. With the question voice, she began to feel a hint of that joy again. "I mean, it's a 50-50 shot that you'll guess the right one," she mused with a smirk.
