As a child, Serr had traveled with Aunt Fiia to Tind a handful of times for trade, and even though he knew there had to be more to an entire settlement than elderly Winds gawking at pies, he had labeled the place as boring and that label had stuck. At first, he'd silently dreaded coming here, but they had been in the south for a while, long enough for him to realize stealing from tourists wasn't a lifelong gig and stability didn't mean stagnation. Eziya had valuable skills and he... well, Serr was good at sneaking around. They could manage a bit of a change. They might even thrive up here.

The nomads they were traveling with had no use for a thief, but he was making himself useful by teaching a few of the younger children sleight of hand, and a healer was always welcome. They were on their way to Iory, and if he was being honest, Serr was very excited to see all the sail scales.

While the time spent south was enjoyable, Eziya was surprised at how relieved she was to be traveling again. The change of scenery put a bounce in her step, and on top of that she knew Serr liked the movement as well. Finding a group of nomads to travel with had felt like a lucky hand, and now that they were on the move she couldn't wait to see all of the places they had yet to explore. Sighing to herself, Eziya reached over to snag Serr's hand with her own and give it a slight squeeze. Even after the many years she still felt a little giddy any time she did something more intimate like this with him.

"Would you like to play a game?" Eziya teased, swinging their hands together as they walked. "We can guess what we think we'll find once we arrive in Iory. What hidden gems will be there." A grin spread across her face as she spoke, trying to imagine what all they would find together.

Of course, it helped that Eziya seemed happy too. He squeezed her hand in return and looked at her properly, something he'd gotten better at since they'd been back on the road. People had grown accustomed to his tendency to avert his eyes when he spoke to them, and meeting new traveling companions was a good way to break him of that, at least for a little while. Eziya was stunning today, but that was a fact that never changed. Serr realized he was smiling and looked down at his shoes. Shoes. They were barely more than sandals, but they were still weird.

As for playing a game, well, he was always up for that. "It's supposed to be rocky, so I hope there are some interesting caves. I'm not sure what we might discover in them though." He thought there might be water too, farther outside of town, but he didn't hear much about people exploring it, so it was probably dangerous. "What do you think we'll see?"

Eziya hummed to herself for a moment as she thought about what they could see. She had heard it was rocky just like Serr said, but maybe there was even more to it than that. Or maybe she was just trying to find fun things for the two of them to sneak off and do while they were in the area. Eziya watched him glance down at his feet, following his eyes as she looked down as well. In the whole time she had known him, she had rarely seen him wear shoes. Maybe shoes made him louder. He was always sneaky before, so perhaps she could even find him when he snuck off now.

"Maybe there will be secrets in the caves. Like shiny gems or fancy stashes left by thieves," she nodded more to herself, fingers brushing against the feathers nestled in her hair. "Something that someone stole and didn't want anyone else to see maybe."

"Yes. Pirate hoards. There will be gems and crates of fancy clothes. And maybe it wasn't just the place they stored the stuff they stole. Maybe there will be whole rooms they carved out of the rock. Bedrooms and rooms for dancing and a big kitchen with a tunnel that goes up to the sky and lets out all of the smoke." It was rather ridiculous, the thought that they would be the first to find these things and that time and other scavengers wouldn't have robbed them of their usefulness, but it was still fun to think about.

"We could make it our summer home." Serr laughed, and the short huff seemed to surprise even him. "Or a special place for medical..." Experiments? No, that sounded creepy. "Discoveries."

"Ohhhh a special home just for us sounds so very exciting. A place that we can hide our own treasures!" Not that they really had treasures other than the things they carried with them. Eziya did wonder how others lived with so many things available to them at any given time. She wasn't certain she would like that. "Do you think I would look nice in fancy clothes? Maybe Auntie has fancy clothes. You look good in whatever," she muttered, looking Serr over and blushing slightly.

Eziya rubbed at her arms as she muttered to herself, awkward energy coming over her. Iory would be fun! She was just being weird. More than anything she just wanted to be wherever Serr was. Even if the wind folk found them an odd pair.

When she mentioned their potential treasures in particular, Serr had a similar series of thoughts. As far as possessions went, he had his ring, his clothes, his feathers, his daggers, and the cuff on his arm, but that was about it. While he'd once had a small hoard, trading the things he's stolen for the things they needed had satisfied him more than keeping them. He'd even had to get rid of Ulgo. Unfortunately, the needs of a fully grown snapptrotter had been a little out of his league, though the creature's absence had been the only thing to spark a twinge of failure in his chest whenever he thought about it. Was he that bad at caring for living things? Or had he just started too big?

"You look better than me," he said without hesitation. "And I know Auntie has at least two dresses because I brought them to her." He had worn one of them to make a getaway many, many years ago. "But those were too... poofy. And pink. If I had to pick the best fancy clothes for you, they would sparkle like the stars." If that was poetic, he hadn't intended it to be. It was the simple truth.

Serr bent to press a quick kiss to her blushing cheek when he saw her fingers sweep over her arms. "Do you want fancy clothes and treasures and a cave in the rocks? He smiled again. "I'll get them for you?" His words rose with amused uncertainty. It was nice to say, but he had no idea how he would manage all of that if she said yes.

"No, no. I don't need those things, really. Just thinking out loud is all. Imagining extravagant things. Really I'm happy just being with you. I don't need fancy things to enjoy myself. As long as we're together," Eziya replied, squeezing his hand. Clothes of starlight sounded nice, but that would mean a lot of trouble for Serr. Something she preferred he stay clear of. She knew how much he liked to snag things, but doing that for her was far too much pressure. Eziya glanced ahead at the travelers they were with, chewing on her lip as she leaned in closer to the man. She'd rather they not hear about her conspiratorial comments or the fact that Serr had been a thief for so long. It was her little safeguarded secret, and one she didn't want them to know. No way they needed to hear about his thieving tendencies.

"You don't need to take pretty things for me. I think I've already snagged the best around," she winked, leaning over to place a light peck to his shoulder.

"Me?" Serr said, bringing his free hand to his chest like a flustered maiden even as he kept his voice low. "I'm the best around?" He chuckled once then looked ahead, his smile slowly slipping back to neutrality as he watched the wind travelers around them. Was this the life for them too? He honestly wasn't sure anymore.

After a short stretch of steady walking, he turned to her once again, his eyes wide and earnest. "If you ever do want anything else... I don't have to take it. I can earn it. Because you'll always have me, so... just in case you want something more."

"And you don't have to feel the need to earn it either. I don't want you changing who you are to provide something for us, Serr. Do what makes you happy. I know you aren't going to up and run away from me one day, and that's what really matters. If that means snatching something every now and again that's fine. Besides, everyone needs a healer. I can make good work off of that," Eziya attempted to reassure him, continuing to keep her voice low even as she slowed slightly to speak more with him.

"But if there's anything else that you want out of this, or something you want to tell me. Please let me know. I don't want you worrying over if we're properly provided for or not. We manage things together, yes?"

"No, I..." Serr looked thoughtful for a couple of steps, then said, "I'm not worried about us eating or having a place to stay. And I'm happy." Frighteningly so. "But I want you to be more than happy. So, if you ever want something..." He stopped speaking. That wasn't what she had asked, and more than anything he wanted Eziya to feel reassured.

"We manage things together. And I promise I'll tell you if I ever want anything."

"Then there's no reason to worry. We have what we need. The only thing I want is you around, and since I have that, I'm happy. And if you're happy too then we've succeeded!" Eziya smiled, squeezing his hand again. She liked the comfort of him there, and sometimes it scared her to think about just how much she needed him around. She wondered what her parents would think. Not that she really cared about her father, but her mother did mean something to her. She knew Auntie liked her. She'd visited her more than her own family, but it was different knowing her family didn't really know Serr.

"Maybe after we get tired of this place we could go back and see my family. So I could introduce you."

Another squeeze. Serr's worry faded, at least for a couple of seconds. He shouldn't have been concerned about meeting her parents, but the thought made his stomach flip-flop until he pushed the feeling down.

"Yeah! We should." He swallowed. "I know you said you don't want me changing who I am, but maybe... a little? I want them to like me."

Eziya rubbed at the back of her head and the feather nestled there, thinking of how she wanted to word her next statement. If he wanted to change a bit she wouldn't stop him, but she didn't think he had to. Her mother was the really important person to her. As long as she liked Serr, which she believed she would, then it was all fine!

"You don't have to worry about my mother. She'll like you because I adore you. My father doesn't get a say in anything he's not worth it anyway," she admitted. "And if something does happen, then we just leave. We're adults and I don't care what they think of my choices. You matter more to me than them. This is just...well sort of a courtesy? A hey this is who I'm spending my life with deal with it."

Serr smiled to himself and nodded a little as he looked down at the ground once more. He didn't think he'd ever go out of his way to locate his actual mother for introductions and pleasantries, so at least they wouldn't have to deal with that.

"I understand. Well... I won't be taking anything directly from them, so they probably won't be able to tell I've ever stolen anything at all. Unless you want to tell them..." That might be a disaster, but it was up to her. Again it struck him that he was worrying quite a bit about this potential future event, like he had to pass some mysterious test when she had just told him he did not. "Everything will be fine." The statement was as much for him as it was for her.
