Since Sylvite opted out of the Negaverse, in the way that meant kill-on-sight, Adonis had begun spending an unreasonable amount of time on quota draining. It wasn't that he was trying to overperform, but it was a helluva lot easier to deal with his thoughts on the move than it was to sit at home with them, in a dingy little matchbox apartment with no electricity. Really, the apartment prompted more thoughts, so he only went home when he was ready to drop.
That night, the streets were either packed with people, empty, or too risky to start draining energy. He spent an hour looking for a good target before he gave up on the city proper and migrated to the parks.
The first part of the park he chose still had a few packs of annoying kids roaming around. Normally kids were prime energy draining material, but with so damn many of them with parental supervision, Adonis expected he'd get shot for looking in their direction. And since it wasn't that late for a summer night, Adonis expected to find some runners once he reached the trails.
As he drew near the thickening treeline, and he spotted the back of an elegant-looking dress, right in a Squire's blazing auric broadcast —
"Oh, hey!" He called, and he waved his hand in the air as if she'd turn around to see it. "I remember you, Bubble Babe."
Well, sort of. He forgot her name, but he remembered how their first tussle turned out.

Caer Sidi was not excited to see Adonis again. She crossed her arms, squared her shoulders, and turned around to glare at him. She had been out, patrolling, and paused near the children; they hadn't noticed her, which was probably for the best, since she expected children might get very gaspy and grabby about her dress.
Not exactly what she was interested in dealing with. Grubby hands all over her pretty white skirts...ugh, even if magic would clean them, it was still disgusting.
Worse, though, was this jerk.
"Out harassing innocent people again?" She asked, in her haughtiest, coldest, most rich-b***h-princess tone of voice.

"You bet!" He declared with his widest, most charming smile. "Think about it — my magic's not all that different from a couple scraped knees, so no one's gonna think twice about it if I cast on a kid. And!" This was the best part, his absolute favorite part, and he loved saying it to people like her.
"Think about how the parents'll thank me for sucking all that boundless energy outta their kid. Bet you I can get 'em to pay me for it, too." He thumbed his chin in mock thought. "How much you s'pose it costs to see a doctor and get a prescription out of it? Couple hundred? Think I could charge at least that for a safe and effective way to make your kid sleep for the next twelve hours."
He loved people like her — it was almost too easy to get their blood boiling.

Caer Sidi gaped. How could he be so--so--blase, about threatening children? Clearly, he was much scummier than she had ever begun to imagine. Him and all the other monsters in the Negaverse, probably.
Sher strode forward, all righteous indignation.
"How dare you, you--you--beast!" She wished she had something more conducive to hitting than just a suncatcher. Whack him with that and she'd be liable to break her weapon.
"You leave those children alone, and you leave their parents out of your protection racket!" She called on her Aspect, and swing her fist, aiming directly for his face. Politeness and chatter were for people who didn't piss her off this much, this fast.

Beast, huh? He was hoping for a more creative nickname than that. Adonis could only offer a noncommittal shrug. Sure, beast, yeah, whatever. All humans were beasts. Come to think of it, a beast might be a step up?
Well, damn, he'd have to try harder.
"Are you mad 'cuz you didn't think of it first? Tell you what, you let me take you dow -- whoa!" He turned his head enough that her strike caught his cheek instead of his nose, but the sting of it after! Adonis thought she must've coated herself in acid when she turned all starshimmer sparkledog.
He wasn't sure how he felt about those antics. He knew he didn't want her getting up in his business again, though, not like that. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, chill out, Babes." Adonis backed up, hands out, as if that would stall her.
"Hey, listen, if I don't get my quota together tonight, my boss said I'm gonna get Skinned Alive." Adonis rubbed his face afterward.noir songbird Skinned Alive ;; Range: 20' / 1 target Duration: 15 seconds Use Count: 2 Miss Chance: Breaking eye contact, going out of range Effect: Executed in the same manner as his basic attack, Adonis casts Skinned Alive by brushing his hands across any part of his uniform, which melts away for the duration of the attack. The change is mimicked in his targeted opponent, who he must make eye contact with, and they feel the effects of their skin being removed from their body. The affected area appears bloody, and the opponent suffers extreme pain akin to the name of the attack. It can be interrupted by attacking Adonis before his uniform manifests any changes, preventing him from making eye contact, or by shutting him up somehow before he utters the name of the attack. Once the duration ends, their body goes back to normal (as does his uniform).

"I would never," Caer Sidi hissed, and she brought her fist back to swing again. How dare he even think to accuse her of wanting to profiteer off her magical abilities! "And anyway, we don't drain energy! All our power comes from our Wonders and planets, we don't need it like you parasites do!"
Honestly! Even if she could, she wouldn't want to! Why did people like this always seem to think that everyone else was just as scummy as they were?
She stalked forward as he moved back, skirts swishing dramatically around her ankles, all righteous fury and indignation--
And then his magic hit her, and she cried out in pain, hand coming up to touch the side of her face. Yes, this had already happened once--but one time wasn't nearly enough to inure her to the pain of magic making her skin feel like ti had been peeled off.
"I hope you do," she seethed, angrily. A kinder person, one who lived up better to the ideals of being a Knight of Cosmos, might not have said so.
Caer Sidi, she supposed, was not a very good Cosmos Knight.

She struck him again, and he stumbled back with a groaned ow. "Goddamn," he hissed/ Seemed like this Squire could hit pretty hard, or Adonis was all wimpy again. since he hadn't gotten into a good fight in quite a while.
He wasn't really in the mood for that, though — it'd been enough to deal with the hot new bullshit that the festival brought in with it, including the strange rifts that had been appearing. To get beaten up in the middle of that? Seemed a little careless, given that he should be in his best condition for whatever fresh hell was on the horizon.
"Ouch, okay, you can stop hitting me now," Adonis said as he held his stinging cheek with a hand. "How 'bout we do this the same as we did it last time? You gimme your energy and I get gone. How's that sound?" Hopefully it sounded good, cuz he didn't wanna waste all his energy and attacks on her when he might run into bigger fish as the night wore on.

"Can I?" Caer Sidi snapped. It seemed that no matter what she did, Adonis would not learn his lesson, so it felt a bit as if she ought to keep hitting him. Butt hat wasn't really proper. If he was surrendering, she sohuld probably accept it.
His offer made her grind her teeth. But it was the most reasonable solution, she supposed.
"Ugh. Fine." She huffed, extending her arm. This was...miserable. She absolutely did not want to give up her energy to some Negaverse idiot. But it meant he would leave ordinary civilians alone, and that was a better deterrent than punching him. Maybe it was even a little beneficial.
"Next time," she grumbled, "open with that, and maybe I won't have to punch you so much." Hyperborea wouldn't approve, but what her girlfriend didn't know wouldn't hurt her.

"Naaaaah," Adonis answered, cool as a spring night when he took up her hand. "Next time, I'm gonna open with phoning one of our handy Sovereigns to come fix your attitude." He offered her a winning smile.
Damn, it was nice to have found her again. He loved the ones that proved so easy to rile up, who coughed up their energy at the first ask because something something moral code, people deserved to live, bullshit bullshit bullshit. Really, she was making collection easy on him? She already know what was going on, what to expect, no sudden assaults out of nowhere because that would be practical, not moral, and other high horse nonsense.
Which was fine! It was all fine! Even the orbs he drew off of her, into the palm of his free hand. Those were quite fine. And they'd finish his quota! Really, he should've thanked her for polishing off his quota early, and buying him time to be a lazy lout in his regular life.
"Welp," and he popped his p as he let her go, "that's all there is to it. Got what I needed, you get to hang out at this park doin' what you're doin', and I get to head outta here. Nice doing business with you, Sweetheart." He turned his back, began walking away, and gave her a passing wave as he disappeared entirely.
