“Do you want to learn the staff, bow or swords?” Verosh found himself staring over a display of weapons, his daughter standing by his side as the pair lingered in the Neued marketplace. The taller Aishan male reached out to touch a bow, his fingers opting to avoid any type of spears and lances since he had been spoiled by the craftsmanship of his beloved who made the best weapons for him. He had been out and about to purchase goods for their home, trading in additional spoils from hunts that his family didn’t need, and Zira had begged to tag along with him. Now they were simply browsing the various earthling stalls, the coin in Verosh’s pockets allowing them to pick out some additional things in the market today. Though hybrids were more common, especially in this area, the tall and muscular male was rather imposing and it was only the bright attitude of his daughter that softened the merchants towards them. Even the burly shifter who was running the weapons stand found himself smiling as the youngling bounced between the displays, her delight obvious as she gushed over everything.

“Do I have to pick just one, Papa?” Zira pouted towards her father as she poked at another wooden staff, her fingers tapping a rhythm as she checked the smooth wood. She liked how versatile a staff could be for fighting, the blunt ends good for just knocking someone out rather than killing. Zira wasn’t as blood thirsty as some of the other huntresses she had met, but she also enjoyed fighting all the same. A bow was handy but it kept her away from the fighting, something she didn’t find as thrilling. It was definitely a lot for someone almost ten years old to think about! If she wanted a spear then she would ask her mother for one, so maybe it would be smart to look at a bow.

Verosh almost rolled his eyes at his daughter’s antics. “You don’t have to pick just one.” He confirmed with a small smile, an expression that was far less rare now that he had become a father. “But it would be best to learn one at a time until you become more comfortable with it. If you try to juggle too many things I worry you won’t be able to hone your skills to their fullest.” He explained as he picked up the wooden training staff that his daughter had been eyeing. “We’ll take this one.” Basics first, right? While he wasn’t certain what Noll would want to do in the future, Zira had definitely made her future goal obvious as she rushed about in excitement and begged her father to begin training as early as possible.

“Staff it is then.” Zira grinned towards her father before looking at a bow. “But maybe a bow too? It’s just so pretty.” She gushed as she reached out for the bow that the shopkeeper carefully handed over towards the youngling. The silvery wood was absolutely perfect and she adored how the protective glaze highlighted a twisting design of vines that the maker had engraved into the curve of the bow. “I wouldn’t mind gathering the feathers to make the arrows. Do you think mama would mind?”

Verosh could only shake his head before handing over more coin towards the shopkeeper. He thought he could be more stoic, but somehow it was too easy to spoil his daughter. “You’ll have to make certain to take good care of it. Keep the wood in good condition and replace any strings that you snap.” He advised as Zira hugged the bow against her chest and gave a nod. Maybe he would offer the training staff to Noll if his son would be interested in fighting. It seemed Zira was intent upon learning archery first now that she had found a pretty weapon to keep her attention so it would be best to focus on that.

“I will!” Zira chirped happily as she clutched the bow in one hand and reached over towards her Papa, her steps light as she walked away from the shop with him. “Maybe we could get some presents for everyone? Sweets or something? We could get Noll a new gathering bag if he’d like to keep some things! I saw a shop with some interesting crystals and carved figurines…maybe we could find something pretty for mama there too.” Zira had no concept of how much extra money they had, but she knew that today was a good day to buy presents since her Papa hadn’t shrugged off her request for the weapons. The pouch he carried seemed to still have plenty enough in it. Those herbs and medicines must have been worth a lot! He also had hunted down some wild creatures and gotten paid for it as well, especially since they had been bothering the local merchants. Zira knew it was best not to push her luck but since they were in the markets it would be best to do as much as possible, right?

“One thing at a time, moonlight.” Verosh patted his daughter’s head, his expression soft as he tried to contain her neverending energy. “I need to purchase some supplies first but then we can get gifts. I promise that I’ll save some coins for that.” The hybrid glanced about now that they were finally away from the weapon shop, one of the first stops he had promised to Zira, and now he was focused more on finding a bakery so that he could get some fresh bread for the week. They could also gather a couple of bags of grain and thankfully Tae was waiting patiently, the aldabuck ready to carry a couple of satchels as they shopped about. “What about some tarts?” He offered as he finally caught sight of a bakery and led the way inside.

Zira pursed her lips but nodded. It did make sense that they should focus on supplies first. Not as much fun though. Still her expression did brighten at the promise of tarts and the girl found herself bounding forward towards the display case so that she could pick out a few. Two for mama, two for Noll and three for herself. Obviously she needed something for now and then the rest they could all share later. “What would you like Papa?” She asked after pointing out a few, leaving the tart lemon ones for herself while getting berry tarts for the others.

“Lemon as well.” Verosh advised as he looked back towards the owner and placed his order. “A sack of flour and two bags of rice along with the tarts, thank you.” That would be enough to last them for a month or so before he would have to return to the market. Most of the supplies they could get in the village closer to home but Neued had better access to grains and the like from other countries. Verosh wasn’t much of a baker but he could make quite a few dishes with rice, something he had learned from his own father who was the one that often used the flour to make baked treats for the family.
“Ready, Zira?” He glanced towards his daughter as the owner packed up everything and Verosh moved so that he could sling the satchels over his shoulder until they went outside. He could secure them on Tae then since the aldabuck was waiting around the entrance for them.

“Mmhmm.” Zira nodded and waved goodbye to the owner before bouncing outside to watch her Papa secure everything on Tae. The youngling reached out to pet the aldabuck’s side before tucking the box of tarts into her own satchel. She had kept out one of the lemon tarts and was snacking on it, offering a piece of the sweet to the aldabuck as they trailed behind her father. She thought that shopping would be a more relaxing day compared to training or running errands for her mother at the forge but honestly Zira was getting tired. She supposed it could be because they left right before dawn to walk all morning towards the settlement, but at the same time how could walking be so exhausting? Zira let out a sigh before finishing the last bite of her tart. She was definitely going to talk to her Papa about traveling on mounts in the future. She adored Tae but it wasn’t like they could ride him back home.
“What next?”

Verosh paused as he waited on Zira and Tae to catch up. “We got our grains, we traded the medicines, picked up your weapon and I think that’s mostly it.” He admitted quietly before glancing about. They could find a produce stand and try to gather some fruits that typically grew outside of Jahaur to use for baking and there were some vegetables that he preferred from Sauti which didn’t grow in the humid rainforest of Jahuar. “Let’s get a bit more food and then I’ll let you pick out gifts.” He decided as he ventured towards a stall with an Oban merchant, the lady smiling as she noticed the pair.
“Why hello there. Would you like to try some of these? They’re fresh from the vine, we just set up today after traveling from Jatine.” She handed some of the red grapes towards Zira after Verosh gave a nod of approval.

“They’re so small and juicy.” Zira admitted after she ate a couple of the strange reddish fruits. There were so many strange things out in this world and she was happy to continue trying them. She usually preferred something more tart but they weren’t bad. “Do you have lemons though?” She asked as she thought about the lemon tarts in her satchel. What if she brought back a lot of lemons and helped her grandpa make dessert one night? That could be fun!

“Grapes are good for making wines.” Explained the vendor as she demonstrated some of the other foreign fruits to Zira while Verosh started to make a selection of things to take home. His hand hesitated between limes and lemons when he heard his daughter’s question and he opted to grab a few of the yellow fruits. “I found some.” He commented quietly as the vendor continued on her demonstration, moving to show Zira some of the strange round pink fruits brought in from Matori. A prickly pear and a few other things kept his daughter’s attention as Verosh finished browsing the produce cart, his coins securing the purchase as he tied up the satchel and tucked it in with those already on Tae. The aldabuck gave a little noise of protest but munched happily enough when Verosh handed over his favorite treats in thanks. “I’ll carry the rest.” He assured the creature before standing to the side to wait for Zira to join him.
“Now about those gifts.”

Zira wiped the juices from the corner of her mouth. While her Papa had been busy the girl had been trying several of the fruits that the nice Oban lady had offered. “Thank you!” She smiled towards the lady before joining her father’s side again, her fingers rubbing against her leggings to try and get rid of the stickiness. “I’m ready if you are!” She teased her father before bouncing forward to try and find the first thing that caught her attention. There was that merchant’s stall that had all of those pretty crystals. Her gaze brightened as she caught sight of it and she immediately went towards one that had a metal radaku in mid jump poised before an emerald gemstone. It was perfect! “I like this one.” She admitted as she gestured towards it. Maybe one day they could have a radaku as well. Her cousins all had a radaku or something similar to accompany them on hunts so why couldn’t she?

“For your mother or yourself?” Mused Verosh as he caught up to Zira. He reached beyond that for another fine piece of engraved metal, showing a trio of sitara together along a branch with gemstones that gleamed in place of the actual creature’s glowing tails. “What about this one?” He offered Zira as he handed it towards the youngling.
