Gismondine was still trying. Still trying to get stronger. To be better…to do something worthwhile. If he could master his weapon…Sylvite would be so proud. Maybe even Xander would…just suddenly appear out of the void he had crawled into and they could kiss and…elope? Something.
…Anything.
He paused as the feeling of a senshi aura came into his sensing range, and quietly, he summoned his weapon to his hands, looking down at it rather dispassionately.
It just wasn’t…If he could figure it out, life would be so great but.
He couldn't so.
Looking up as the senshi approached, Gismondine took what he hoped was a grounded, confident stance.
It wasn’t. But the thought was there. The desire was there…Fake it until you make it was a great…and risky mantra to live by but. He hadn’t died yet.
…Almost, but not yet.
“I’ll…I’ll be taking some energy from you. If you…If you please!” The Captain held his weapon out, trying to be threatening. Trying to fluff himself up to appear larger than he was. Tougher than he was.
…Like a chihuahua with too much fur.

Izanami was no fan of the Negaverse. She had yet to see them as anything but ravening monsters--remembered Amazonite, and her predatory hunger for starseeds. Remembered how she had expressed a desire to have Izanami remade in black.
No, that would simply not do, and as she looked the Captain int he face, she frowned, raising up a hand in a wary threat and a pre-emptive casting gesture all the same. This one seemed easily frightened; for all his posturing, she didn't get the impression he was actually confident. The type of man she could easily see herself eating alive, in the classroom or the courtroom.
"No. I will not sacrifice my energy to power the Negaverse's monstrous machine. Push the issue," she said, coldly, "and I will show you how my magic drove off one of your Generals." It was a bit of a bluff--she knew she'd gotten lucky with the massive burst of power that had made Amazonite retreat.
But maybe she would get lucky again.

Gismondine swallowed, and watched the senshi for a moment, wondering if he should ask again…or just start trying to pull some energy? Or…
Truthfully, leaving seemed like it would be the best answer but…it wouldn’t be dignified. It wouldn’t be much anything but true proof of his cowardice.
So, drawing in a breath, the Captain took a step towards the senshi again, shaking the weapon in her general direction. “I’ll…I’ll ask you once more. And…I think…it would be best if you said yes. I’m not asking for…for your s-starseed, just some energy. It’ll come back after some sleep, and I…even have some food I could share afterwards!”
There was a box of mochi in his subspace pocket, just in case he met up with Sylvite. She loved when he brought snacks, after all.
“So…just…stop threatening me and…give your energy up to me.”
He took another step closer and then paused, wrinkling his nose. “Um. Please.”

His weapon looked dangerous. Izanami imagiend that if he had much in the way of competence with it, he could do a lot of damage to her. But she wasn't one to cower under threats; it simply wasn't who she was. So she met him with an icy glare and an expression that indicated she would not hesitate even a moment.
"I believe I said no. When a lady tells you no, you ought to learn to respect it, Captain." She spat the title, a mocking edge to her tone. "Cremation Blaze."
Her magic came easily, this time--not explosive, nor hesitant, simply the pure, unchanged burn. Even once she launched it, she stood firm, ready for whatever retaliation he threw her way. Surely he wouldn't take this lying down. Though, if she was very lucky, maybe he would just give up and flee. That, she thought, would be quite lovely, and would end the issue for the evening.Quote: Izanami holds a hand up in front of her face and speaks the name of the track, and blue fire ignites around her hand. She then gestures at one target, and the target appears to be engulfed in blue flames. The target will feel as if they are being cremated from the inside out, with a sensation of pain akin to first degree burns over the entire body. The fires last for 25 seconds, but at player discretion, lessened pain can linger after the end of the attack, and the target can be left with minor burns. Izanami can use this magic three times per battle.

Oh…when she put it that way, Gismondine felt himself flush with shame. That…made him sound as though he were some sort of a prowler, and he opened his mouth to protest, to assure her that he didn’t want to do anything…anything improper.
But then…then the magic hit him, and everything was pain. Everything was pain and heat and fire and oh god. He was dying.
Gismondine didn’t have the presence of mind to do anything but scream. His weapon fell to the ground with a soft clatter, the blade striking against a small stone. It wasn’t enough to distract himself from the flames though. Oh god. He was burning. Burning alive he had to leave. Had to…had to get out but.
There were no thoughts in his mind except for fear, for dread for the the fact he would never see those he cared about again. Sylvite would never know what happened to him. Turned to ash by senshi magic…Xander would…well. He wouldn't be back, Nelson was sure of that by now but…if he did come back, he would never know what had happened to him either. A pile of ash…incinerated…
For a moment, Gismondine thought he would simply fall to his knees, would simply cease to live as the flames licked him. Devoured him but…
Pulling strength from nowhere, he teleported, getting out of there, no thoughts to where he was going, but the fact that…he could go. That was…the most wonderful feeling in the world.

Izanami always felt a twinge of guilt when she used her magic. It made people scream in pain, and this particular Captain....if she was honest, he didn't really seem all that dangerous. He mostly seemed kind of sad and pathetic. But the thing was, he was still an officer of the Negaverse. He was still a threat to innocent people. And no matter how polite he had been, she doubted he was that polite with ordinary civilians.
And, anyway, he had threatened her, and that was enough to mean that she had ot defend herself.
Still, she took no pleasure in the sound of screams of pain. She took no joy in seeing him drop his weapon, or teleport away. It was a victory, yes, but not a point of pride; she had won, but it wasn't something to celebrate.
There were too many others like him out there. Too many other monsters that stalked the dark.
Izanami took a deep breath, and turned, and walked away. It wasn't time to go home yet. There was always more work to do.
