Ever since her conversation with Periclase, Soyala had been quite concerned. The way the girl talked, the way she spoke of leaving....it made her nervous, and to be carrying such a secret practically made her complicit if Periclase did decide to leave the Negaverse.

It had taken her some time to decide for certain, but she knew that if she wanted to continue to be trusted as an officer of the Negaverse, she had to report what she had heard. Bot not widely. To one General-King, whom she trusted. Axinite, she was sure, would handle the problem of Periclase in a way that properly attended both the severity and the delicacy of the situation. So she had sent a request for an appointment to discuss a sensitive matter.

She arrived at his door, and in a breath, took the human form she had learned recently to adopt. Three polite knocks on the door.

"Sir? It's Soyala."

She hoped, at least, that her new transformation would go over well, even if the news she bore did not.

“Come in,” Axinite called. He expected Soyala, and his door was only ever really closed when he had an appointment. She’d put in the extra effort to make sure he’d be available for this and he hadn’t wanted anyone to accidentally encroach on her time.

Inside, his office was–predictably–impeccably organized and set up to be as friendly and welcoming as possible. There were fresh baked goods on his desk and he had three different tablets spread across his workspace. A cup of tea was cooling by his side, and it seemed like he’d indulged in one of the pastries he’d made; it was half finished on a small plate next to it.

He smiled when Soyala entered, and gestured for her to take a seat.

“If you’d like a treat, please help yourself. Can I get you something to drink or do you want to get down to business?”

It felt so nice to be able to walk into Axinite';s office, take a prop[er seat in a chair, and reach over with human hands to pluck one of the pastries off his desk. Th treats always looked so nice, but she'd been shy of indulging before; as a cat, the way she had to eat was...painfully undignified. Now, though, it was so much easier.

"Thank you, Axinite," she said, pleasantly. It was good that the Negaverse had him, really; he was steady and calm, and she liked and respected him--not that she wasn't fond of all the General-Sovereigns, and of course Laurelite would forever hold a special place of admiration and affection in her heart, but...Axinite just happened to be her favorite. Maybe because she'd worked with Quartz in the Information branch so long. "No drink, but I appreciate it.

"I'm bringing you a serious matter," she admitted. "I spoke to a Senshi named Periclase, and she talked of...." Her nose wrinkled, unhappily. "Defecting. I'm not sure if it was a passing fancy, but she seemed to be putting serious thought into it, and I would be derelict in my duty as a Guardian if I allowed such foolishness to go unreported." Her ears flicked, unhappily. "I tried to warn her off, of course. But I'm not sure I got through to her, and it seemed important enough to bring the matter to your attention."

There was something charming about the way the Mauvian carried herself in this form, and he watched with a content smile that only faded when she got to the meat of the conversation. He listened with rapt attention and concern.

“That is a very serious matter,” he agreed. His face shifted from a neutral expression to a frown, and his brows knit. It was hard not to just summon Periclase there right now, but he refrained.

He wasn’t one to make rash decisions. This required adequate information. Planning.

They’d lost too many already.

“Why did she bring it up to you, what did she say?”

This was the reason she had chosen to go to Axinite. Soyala respected his measured decision-making, and that he was being thoughtful about the whole situation. It was important to her, not to scare the poor girl. Pushing too hard might have her running away.

"I think someone put the idea in her head," Soya editorialized, a little. "She seemed to want someone to talk it through with, and I suspect she chose me because Guardian Cats are somewhat nonthreatening." She briefly tapped her nails against the arm of her chair, antsily.

"I think she is...suffering, very badly, and someone told her about the memory loss that comes with defection, because she asked me if it was worth it. To trade in bad memories. And she spoke of people lost to her. I suspect that
Periclase may be dangerously adrift, and I would greatly dislike seeing her make a foolish choice she would be unable to remedy."

A frown had settled on Axinite’s face and he nodded again. It was clear that he was taking this incredibly seriously and he did not want to see Periclase do something foolish.

There wasn’t much to come back from after defecting.

“There are ways to correct course and better realign with the Negaverse. I don’t want her to make a mistake she may come to regret.”

And how could she not regret it? Defecting would only put a target on her back, and if she could be saved, it would come at a great cost. Better to correct now while no one had been hurt.

“...What is she suffering from? You know her better than I, I’d like to figure out what we can do to fix this for her. I am reluctant to suggest a Youmaglia, of course, but. Tell me more about your conversation with her, please.”

Soyala thought back, turning over what Periclase had said to her. "Loss," she said, finally. "She mentioned a twin, a General, a girlfriend--all gone. She also said that she liked being part of the Negaverse, which means I suspect there's time to intervene before it's too late."

Her ears flicked, agitatedly. The entire prospect of a Senshi that she had any part in handling leaving--no, she couldn't bear that. It was practically a condemnation of her abilities as a Guardian, even if she hadn't awakened or promoted Periclase.

The Senshi had come to her for guidance. What would she be doing, if she let her down?

"She didn't mention names, which is unfortunate. I'd have liked to know, to see if there was a way to locate them."

Axinite exhaled but nodded, because this was obviously a concern he shared as well. Finding them might mean saving someone else. At this, Axinite exhaled. It was a lot to take in–especially for a sensitive subject, and it was too easy to suggest the wrong thing without knowing her.

But, he trusted that Soyala knew her–enough to be worried about her.

Enough to know what was going to be in her best interest.

“I appreciate that she hasn’t given up on our organization,” he sighed. “...We’ll have to incentivize her in some way. I can’t imagine the White Moon has anything they can offer her–even if she’s lost people close to her, there’s no guarantee that they’re even still here. Or that she’d remember them, if she left. We have to give her a new community. A better one. There are options–some more extreme than others.”

He was weighing all of them in his mind. “What does she like about the Negaverse, did she say? Perhaps we can curate a better experience for her. Or open the doors to something she would enjoy. Our Senshi have options others don’t–Ascension, for example. But that’s not something just anyone might pursue. And it’s a more permanent commitment than youmaglia.”

Soyala shook her head, unhappily. "She wasn't specific. But I suspect that she finds comfort in camaraderie, and she did mention wishing that she could shut off her emotions--which Ascension would allow, after a fashion."

She tapped her fingers against the arm of her chair, thoughtfully.

"I wonder if perhaps that might be the answer. She likes the Negaverse. Likes being here. Perhaps an option to fully devote herself that would also alleviate the pain she has experienced would be a solid solution."

“All right,” Axinite decided, and nodded decisively. “Then keep that in mind. That’s the path I want you, and her, to consider. There’s a lot to take in, and it’s rather a big decision. It’s not one to be made flippantly, so it’s something I want to see thoroughly considered before we make any moves. It is a decision that cannot be undone.”

Not in any way that didn’t hurt the Negaverse.

“I’ll gather some information and keep an eye on things. I’ll see about talking to her, myself and decide if it’s something we want to introduce to her. Thank you for this conversation, Soyala.” He smiled politely, courteously. “I appreciate your attention on this matter. We’ll make it right.”

Soyala nodded. It was a weighty thing, that she had just been handed. The possibility of forever altering Periclase into one of Metallia's Ascended...it would be a heavy choice.

And a choice it would have to be. Periclase would have to want it. Perhaps that meant that all the weight wasn't on Soyala's shoulders. Perhaps it meant that some responsibility could rest with Periclase herself.

"Thank you very much, General-King," she said. "I won't take up any more of your time, but I appreciate you taking things so seriously." She stood, and bowed, and would wait to be properly dismissed, but once permission was given, she would certainly leave with plenty to think about.
