As spring rolls in to Destiny City and things once winter-dead begin to green up and grow again, on other worlds there is a curious change occurring...

It could be any world, any state of revival after the catastrophe a thousand years ago, with a senshi to protect it or a knight. A spot has appeared, varying in size, where the verdant growth has... failed. Everything in this area appears to be dead, dried and brittle, with the faint smell of ashes. Was there a fire? Some other hazard that happened recently or long ago that poisoned the earth? It could be any number of things, but the result is the same. Nothing grows or lives in that zone, its edge almost a harsh line blurred only by grass. Not even the returning animals seem willing to enter the zone... and if one looked closely, they might see dead bugs among the desiccated stems.

Diligent guardians of these places of power will surely notice the change, sooner or later. Their reactions are varied, from curiosity, to apathy, to concern. More investigation is needed, most likely, and perhaps some other minds to put to the problem.

It doesn't seem particularly dangerous, but if it should spread...

Welcome!

This little event will take place over the course of the summer, allowing people to participate at their own pace and in their own way, with a focus on exploring homeworlds and investigating a strange change that's been found on them.

Everyone with a senshi world or a knight wonder that is not on Earth is welcome to participate in this first stage of the event.

What participants will find:

  • A dead area on their wonder or planet. The plants there appear long dead, brittle and dried out, whether or not that was the case all that long ago.
  • The area has the faint smell of ash, and touching the plants causes them to crumble away into dust.
  • A planet with returned life will find that the animals avoid the area, and if they investigate further, they might find dead insects among the plants that likewise crumble when touched.
  • The dead area can be any size, but should max out at twenty or thirty feet in diameter.
  • The dead area ends rather abruptly at the edge, there is very little fading from dead to alive.

What's next?

Now is the time for people to start discovering and investigating what's going on. Everyone is encouraged to rp or solo the discovery on their world (if they'd like to participate as a host), and investigate the cause. They can also bring in other people to help, or ask around to see if this has happened to anyone else before.

If they try something to resolve the dead spot and want input on how that thing might go, they are free to quote me (whimsical blue) and I can drop a post in that describes the effect of whatever they try. I can also do this for more indepth investigations! If your character is really studying this spot for information, quote me and I can tell them what they might find out.

Further developments will be announced every three or four weeks, so check the prompts section! You are welcome to join in at any time, just assume anything in the prompts has been happening out of your sight and you're just now discovering it.

Participation!

Every one is welcome to join in on this, but there will be some special prizes (funded by me and tba) to give out to people for various activities.

First group will be the ones who host! Anyone who writes at least one solo or rp finding a dead spot on their planet is eligible at the end of the event.

To confirm your participation as host, post here with the following form: (so I can keep tabs)

Username:
Character(s) Hosting: (please link each character's journal with their name! You can have multiple characters participate and get a slight bump in prize chances)
Discovery: (please link the rp(s) or solo(s) here! They don't have to be completed yet)

Host Participation List:

  • Sailor Abeosamu
  • Super Sailor Acrucis
  • Super Sailor Alcor
  • Anakeion Squire of Castor
  • Page Antisana of Pluto
  • Super Sailor Ara
  • Super Sailor Arthuradel
  • Super Sailor Asmodeus
  • Eternal Caliban
  • Carterhaugh, Page of Earth
  • Eternal Sailor Chaldene

  • Eternal Maia
  • Super Neckar
  • Eternal Sailor Puck
  • Chibi Sailor Rhea
  • Super Sailor Skoll
  • Sailor Tachibana

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second group of participation will be those who help with the investigation! A powered acquaintance has found the dead spot on their world or wonder, and brings your character along to help them figure out what's going on, or maybe just for moral support.

These will also be eligible for a prize at the end for joining in an rp, in a different pool from the hosts. For fairness, you can't be in both pools, even if you have characters that host and others that only investigate, or some that do both!

Investigating people do not need to be senshi or knights! This part is open to all factions, even the Negaverse (if you can plausibly work out why someone took them to their planet/wonder). But don't worry Chaos peeps if you don't get in at this stage; there will be an easier way to join in later!

Post this form to be tracked for this pool:

Prompts!

New developments will be posted here!

Update - May 15
Its been a couple of weeks since that dead spot showed up on your world or wonder. It hasn’t changed much… everything is still dead, and nothing has sprung up in that spot. Though… does the spot look bigger to you? It’s kind of hard to tell.

Have you tried asking around about it? Maybe there are others who have seen this before, or might have some ideas what to do about it. Or maybe it’d be a good idea to bring someone along to see, get a second opinion. It might also be worth seeing what you can do about it; have you tried clearing the space? Planting something? If it’s a fungus or something, they make stuff to deal with that on Earth.

It might still be nothing to worry about, it hasn’t really been long enough for stuff to grow back, right? Maybe you haven’t even discovered the spot till now, it was so small and out of the way.

That movement you see in your periphery from time to time is just wind, surely.

Update - June 15
Its been nearly two months since those dead spots started to appear. Many have been discovered, many have not, and there seems to have been a lot of going back and forth with visitors, inspecting these strange areas and brainstorming what to do about them, if anything.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like anything has worked. The plants have still not come back, and any bugs that enter the area seem to die inexplicably, like whatever was in that spot gave off some orderless, noxious fume that killed them and the plants. What’s worse, the spot is definitely getting bigger. Its not a major expansion, but its enough that you can tell, especially if you’ve been paying attention.

On top of that, as if that wasn’t enough, there is a weird feeling in the area around the dead spot. You may have seen flickers of movement you dismissed as shifting shadows, but it gives you an uneasy feeling, if you don’t still dismiss it out of hand. Its almost like there is something else on the planet or wonder besides you… though, if you’ve started seeing animals, perhaps its just some new species you haven’t discovered before. It might be worth investigating though. Maybe it would help settle that uneasiness...

----------------------------------------

Its quiet in Destiny City, a momentary lull in the traffic, noise and violence that the city is so used to. A moment of peace, however fleeting.

Spring was cool after a cold, long winter, and temps began to rise as the year passed into summer. The pale green and bright floral colors have brightened into the rich green of June, and everyone is thinking longingly of the cooler days gone by. Days like this, you’d expect growing things to be in full growth, filled out and nicely maturing after that first burst of new growth in spring.

Back yard and community gardens filled with growing plants, well on their way to that rich harvest in Fall…

But, oddly enough, that’s not the case everywhere. Some gardens didn’t seem to take this year. A news story claims a new tree disease seems to have hit Destiny City and officials are working hard to isolate the affected areas and keep it from spreading. Scattered trees in the parks have been cut down, the area around them blackened and ashy…

Some of you may recognize this, when you see it. A familiar dead zone, found on quite a few worlds by now. Seems like it wasn’t just confined to space… and now a whole new problem has appeared.

Its bad enough this… plague is harming your homeworlds, but now its threatening your home.

Those without homewards or wonders; Congratulations! It looks like this has now become your problem too. If you don’t have friends on Order side, this is probably your first time seeing it; large, dead areas of plants and insects, filled with things that turn to dust when you touch them. You have to wonder… has the News got it right, is this really just some new plant disease brought on by the summer heat?

Its probably time to start asking some questions, because all of these dead spots have a weird feeling to them, and whatever seems to be watching you when you’re around them is definitely not a youma or a mirror wraith.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:

The Homeworld Summer event is now open to all factions! Anyone on Earth can find these dead spots and investigate them. People who've seen it on other worlds can find them and spread the word about it.

Everyone should be getting a weird feeling about them, more so than they were, and there is a sense that something is lurking near them, either drawn to it or... sprung from it? It doesn't feel like a Youma or a Mirror Wraith... but maybe? Whatever it is, its probably not friendly.

Update - July 19
With the Star Festival past, Destiny City seems quieter now, settling into the heat of summer. Perhaps some of you may have been distracted enough to forget, for a time, that there are still dead spots on your worlds and wonders, and even Earth itself. But they haven’t gone away. If anything, these areas have multiplied. Now, more than just one big spot, there are multiples of them. The number varies, but there are definitely more than just one now.

Visiting these areas has always given you an uneasy feeling, but its grown worse this last month. Those shifting things at the edges of your vision have gotten bolder, and if you weren’t sure there was something there before, you are now…

Something moved when you visited this time. Something… oozed out the darkened earth and ashes, flower together into a clump of something oily and slimy. Perhaps more than one something. And then they moved, surging upwards into vaguely humanoid shapes. And then those strange creatures attacked

Beating off the monsters you’ve found is not terribly difficult. They seem to be ungainly and uncoordinated, using their rubbery, sticky limbs like clubs. When struck hard enough, or enough times, they collapse into piles of goo that quickly absorb back into the dead spots and disappear. Unfortunately, just defeating them once doesn’t seem to rid you of them. While they might not appear every time, if you get too close to these dead spots now, you’ll often see stirring, and if you’re not careful, they attack again, retreating again when beaten. They don’t seem to like you being nosy, and they’re not going to just go away.

In Destiny City, the activity of these creatures is more subtle. They seem to prefer lashing out at people who are alone, or in pairs, and at night. The news has put out a story that says a pack of stray dogs has been running rampant in the parks and animal control is struggling to catch them. Residents are warned away from these areas, especially at night, but there are more than a few who have been rushed to the emergency room with broken bones and a strange exhaustion…

There is a definite feel of chaos to these monsters, but its not a chaos that most have ever felt before. Some may recognize it though, and the creatures… creatures they may have fought before on a verdant asteroid with towering tree buildings.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:

Both in space and in DC, strange gooey creatures are attacking people who get too close to the dead spots. They're bold out in space, but are fairly easily beaten back. In DC they are more selective, seeming to look for weaker targets to try and attack, ones without much in the way of back up. They can number from one to many, but whenever beaten, soak back into the soil and disappear, biding their time. Physical contact with them may leave someone feeling exhausted, like their energy has been drained, and may result in monsters that are more eager to attack next time.

Some order characters may even recognize these monsters as Blight, a chaos-born monster that had infested Ida and a few of the other Koronis asteroids. This may or may not prove helpful though... those had been seemingly isolated incidents, and this is a wide-spread problem, and far stronger than anything seen before.

Update - Aug 26
Ida has called together the people she's met and talked with about the Blight and has spread the news about what it is. From here, the word is spreading through the ranks of Order and Chaos: The Blight has a source, and that source is very likely on Earth. If you can find it, there is a chance that destroying the Chaos Seed will destroy the monsters and stop the spread of the dead patches, allowing them to recover and regrow.

But where do you even start looking? How will you know what it looks like when you find it? And how are you going to remove it?

Everyone is encouraged to start searching for the source. The Blight spots have taken up whole swaths of the parks now, and their touch can be seen even in the more populated areas as plants begin to die in their pots and in areas of open ground. The monsters still confine themselves to the parks and outer worlds or wonders, only attacking people on Earth who are alone or in pairs. Either they don't have the strength to take on more, or they don't want to rouse the city to exterminate them... but how much longer will that last?

Worlds and Wonders are seeing possibly immense areas of damage, and the monsters there are far more aggressive than on Earth. Its getting dangerous to let your guard down in a place that's supposed to be your sanctuary.

The City has even gone as far as to cordon off parts of the city parks to keep people away from the dead spots, since they still haven't figure out how to stop the spread and they're worried people might contribute to the spread.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:

Anyone can be handwaved as having heard what these things are and that they have a primary source that needs to be found. How you go about looking is up to you, but most searches are fruitless, or end with characters getting attacked by the blight monsters. You are encouraged to look both on Earth and at your power source (if order), just in case.

Update - September 10th
The Summer's End Battle has begun! Join In Here!

** Anyone who finds it on Earth will be eligible to join the participation list! **

The hosting list will stay just for those who have the dead spots on their homeworld or wonder.

Event End
The source of the Blight has been found and fought in a closed subway station! Ida found it and sent out a distress signal, calling in others to help. Their presence brought in members of the Negaverse, Vanguard, and DMC. The battle was hard, and in a desperate reach for power, Sailor Ida was granted power and became a royal senshi! With the burst of energy that came with it, she helped the others destroy the last of the Blight. In an effort to prevent further fighting, Ida pulled all members of Order to her asteroid, leaving the members of Chaos to find their way home.

Across the galaxy, where Blight had taken hold, the death of the Source destroyed the Blight on other worlds as well. The spots of dead plants still remain, but the bad feelings around the areas are gone and there are no Blight to attack anyone. Over time, the dead spots will heal naturally, until there is no sign the Blight had been there.

FAQs!

There is definitely stuff I've missed explaining fully, so feel free to PM me or message me on discord (whimsicalblue#4331) if you have any questions! Those questions will be answered here so everyone gets the info.

  • Does fighting with the blight monsters count as a battle?
Fighting Blight works the same as fighting a youma; it only counts as a battle once per stage.

  • How long will this go for? Will it be very involved/demand a lot of time?
The timeframe is undetermined at this time, because I want to give everyone enough time to participate, so I expect a couple of months/over the summer (an exact date will be announced later). I'll extend or shorten it depending on participation and interest, but until the finale, this should not be a demanding event. Prompts will be posted to respond to with rps or solos at your leisure, and everyone is encouraged to take this first idea and play with it, exploring your characters' connection to their homeworld or wonder. Or just get to explore space and other worlds in general!

  • How many characters can I participate with?
As many as you like! Using more than one will get you a slight bump in chances to win a prize, but I'm also not penalizing people with less characters.

  • What kind of prizes are we talking about here?
At the very least, every person who participates will get one single use rp item, or one growth item, per character they use, up to a max of four. Permanent rp items and enhancements will be raffled off, but the amount of them will depend on how much participation I get. These are all subject to adjustments as we go! All of these will be purchased by me with credits I've earned.

  • If I want to do investigators and hosts, can I fill out both forms, even if I only get prizes in one?
Certainly! Put in as many people as you like! I'm only separating them to try and split the pools a bit and give everyone better chances at a prize. Filling out both forms will let people know you have both options for rp plots!

  • What if my planet/wonder doesn't have plants or living things? Can I participate?
Everyone may participate, even first stage characters and those without plants! Every place of power presents some little bit of life; they're very rarely sterile environments. Whatever life, of whatever kind, that appears on your world, is dead in that spot. Once fertile soil is dry and sandy. Rock, ice, sand, etc may appear darkly colored, dusty/ashy and crumbling or dry rotting. The dead space may only appear in areas of your world that support some sort of life. Water may turn murky, dark and devoid of oxygen or other things normally 'healthy' water might have.

  • If a planet is mostly islands and ocean, can the dead spot be underwater?
Certainly! You'll want it somewhere your senshi can find it, but if your underwater life is rich and you want to have the deadspot there, that's fine.

  • If I do multiple rps with the same character, do I need to list them all in the form?
Only if you want to! At least one with qualify you for a prize, and more than one will give you a slight bump in the raffle pool, but listing all the rps you do mentioning happenings in this event is more for your own tracking and so other people can also enjoy seeing what you do.

  • Can someone hosting also be a visitor and vice versus?
Yes! Its encouraged for people finding dead spots to also link up with other people and share info/compare what's happening. As far as prize pools, anyone hosting will be in the hosting pool, regardless if they visit other people.

Travel Cooldowns!

For ease of reference on travel cooldowns:

Quote:
Depending on their rank, Senshi and Knights can travel to their Homeworld or Wonder once every three weeks at first stage, once every two weeks at second stage, and once every week at third stage. If they have Transcended, their cooldown period is halved. Royals may travel at will. Cooldown begins on the date the character ICly left for their Homeworld or Wonder, not when they return from it; OOCly, cooldown dates begin when a roleplay or solo is started, not finished, and if you are backdating roleplays or doing multiple roleplays across an extended trip, please just indicate the IC date the roleplay or solo is associated with!
