Shen - Older brother

The entire, gruesomely long mind you, three day move to Destiny City Mei sat in the passenger seat of the U-haul trying to convince herself that this wasn't her father’s fault. He had no control over where the military sent them. Though that didn’t stop her from wishing he could have said no. The only thing she could do at this point was truly hope and pray that this was the last time they have to move.
Her foul mood was prompted by the fact she was only able to bring a fraction of her garden with her, only those which could were currently in pots or could be easily dug up. But that wasn't the only reason, no that would be unrealistic she knew that, it was having to leave her friends behind 'again' that bothered her.

Finally their U-haul truck pulled up to a blue two story house with white trim. Mei looked outside not all that impressed with what she saw, the house itself didn't look half bad; the yard on the other hand left something to be desired. If you ask me whomever lived here before didn't give a crap about their yard.

Reaching over, Mei grabbed ahold of the handle and gave it a pull to open the door and hopped out of the vehicle. Ugg.. she groaned while stretching her legs. My butt hasn't been this tired since we went on the plane trip to Hong Kong to visit Grandma.

Mei let out an audible sigh as she leaned against the side of the truck next to her brother.
“So this is it…?” It was more of a statement than anything.

"Eh, the yard leaves something to be desired but that's why we brought you along right?”

Mei shot him a teasing glare. “Haha funny… jerk.” She went to shove her brother in an attempt to knock him off balance. Totally didn’t work, rather he managed to lean away from her causing her to fall over instead. The two of them laughed at each other for a few moments

Shen reached his hand out to help Mei up "At least this place has one thing our last one didn't.... AC."

Mei smiled at that "Thank God!" She grabbed ahold her her brothers outstretched hand and followed him around to the back of the truck and began unloading boxes.

The sight she saw outside in their new backyard was truly depressing, the place was in shambles. Most of the grass was dead and the grass that has survived was littered with weeds. One lone tree stood in the back right corner of the yard and two rhododendron bushes that were in desperate need of pruning. “This place really is going to need a lot of work”

Mei shifted the cardboard box with the word PLANTS written in black permanent marker so that it rest on her left hip. With her free hand she reached over and unlatched the sliding glass door and sliding it open so she could drop this last box off in the backyard. It was shortly after 3:00 PM with no clouds in the sky and boy was it hot… well hotter than what she was used to.

“How about I get you guys some sun?” Mei reached into her back pocket and pulled out a box cutter to cut the tape. Once she had cut the tape on all nine boxes. She began opening them up one by one pulling out the contents of each box and setting them carefully on the deck.

“MEI!”

Mei looked over her shoulder back into the house. The sound of her mother's voice was barely audible no doubt calling her from the front yard. ‘I still got time before she finds me’ she thought as she opened up box number 5 “Seriously? People need to be more careful” She hung her head in frustration and slid the box to the side.

“MEI” Her mother’s voice echoed through the house.

‘Crap’, she opened box number 6 ignoring her mother’s attempt to get her attention. “Well at least one of you made it”

“MEI…” This time her mother's voice came from right behind her.

“Yes mom?” Mei turned around to look at her mother.

Standing at 5’3” Mei’s mother crossed her arms and used her ‘stern motherly voice’ “Did you not hear me calling?” she asked slightly irritated at her daughter.

“Sorry mom I just…”

“Listen Mei, I know you want to unpack your things but we need to unload the trucks first. U-haul isn’t cheap, there’s the cost for the truck, fuel, time, and distance and right now we are running on time. Please just come help us unload?”

“Can I please just open the boxes so my plants can get some sun and so I can give them water? They have been in the truck for three days now and look” Mei slid box number five towards her mom “four pots are already broken and my cilantro has wilted almost to the point of no return, please mom just 10 minutes. I have 4 boxes to go and want to give them some water. Please?”

Her mother reached up to wipe sweat from her forehead, “Okay, 10 minutes but then you get back out front and help us unload the furniture” She turned around and went back inside.

“Thanks mom.” Mei smiled as she watched her mother retreat back into the house.

It took about 3 minutes for Mei to finish unpacking each box save for the plants who had broken pots. The last box she opened had all her gardening supplies. She dug through all the stuff “Figures it would be on the bottom” she said as she grabbed ahold of her lime green watering can. Looking around Mei found the hose spout and filled up her can 6 times before she was done.

“Hey! You just about done?”

Mei jumped, startled by the sudden voice just inches behind her, “Jesus Shen, one of these days you’re going to give me a heart attack” The two of them laughed together for a moment. “Yeah I’m all done and was just about to come inside”

“Good, I figured I’d come get you before mom did. Dad and I need your help with the couch; mom’s back is starting to hurt so she's going to take a break and unpack some boxes for now.”

"Hopefully she didn't hurt it too bad, wasn't she wearing the brace?"

"Yeah, but things happen, any who let's go" The two of them walked inside, it took the next two hours to completely unload the U-haul. By the time they were done nobody had any energy to unpack let alone cook. Pizza never sounded so good....
