Practice. Practice. Ignore all the rumors. Don’t think about Xander…

As Gismondine drew in a breath, swinging his weapon at the helpless, defenseless oak tree he had been trying to use as a dummy, he tried so hard to put feeling into the swing.

His arms were both bleeding from where his pull had been too wild, and there was a very shallow cut on his cheek. Just a scratch, but he hoped it wouldn’t scar. He didn’t want a scar on his face. Anywhere else…wasn’t ideal but. His face…

Xander would never want him then. Disfigured and ugly.

For a moment, Gismondine’s lip wobbled and he bit back a sob.

No, no he couldn’t let his emotions rule him. Not when trying to master this stupid weapon…but.

One small outburst seemed more than reasonable…and Gismondine flung the weapon towards the tree again, giving a loud, bitter. “******** this!”

Soyala liked to check in on Negaverse officers just as much as she liked to check in on Senshi. So when she saw one practicing so diligently while she was exploring the city, she had to come over and see what was wrong. It did not occur to her that sneaking up, of sorts, on someone wielding a weapon might at all be risky. He was an officer, surely he would adore her as so many other officers adored her.

So she moved over, and put a paw on his leg, and said "Are you alright?" with no other preamble or warning at all.

The fact that he seemed keyed up and very focused on the task at hand was.....well, it was a matter that Soyala simply was not considering whatsoever because it did not impact her unless she acknowledged it.

He hadn’t been listening, hadn’t been looking out for auras at all, or at least…hadn’t been looking for auras that weren’t those of the enemy, and when the voice spoke up out of nowhere…Gismondine panicked and let out a shriek of terror, flinging his weapon right at the intruder.

But when he saw that it was nothing but a cat, he panicked again and tried to pull it back, and with his luck, he finally managed to angle something right and the blade made a shallow slice on the cat’s leg.

“Oh my God.” The cry was one of pure horror and the best thing that Gismondine could think to do was just dismiss his weapon completely. “I’m so sorry, you scared me, oh god I hurt you…oh god are you okay?”

He flung himself to the ground, moving to scoop her up, his face pale and worry clear in his features. “...your leg...”

It figured. The first time he was able to use his weapon somewhat correctly he hurt a ******** cat.

Of all the things Soyala was expecting, being attacked was not on the list. She yelped, and leapt backwards, but it wasn't quick enough--and her reaction, instantaneously, was to aim at the person that had attacked her and shoot off her kitty laser. It was her best and, really, only line of defense against humans, and aiming for the hand coming for her was practically automatic.

It took her a moment to process the apologies spewing from the Captain, and she stayed fluffed up, wary and narrow-eyed.

"You absolutely must be more careful with that weapon! Honestly, who is your General, letting you run around not knowing how to use it?"

Gismondine felt his hand go numb and he almost dropped the poor thing in surprise. But…when she began to yell at him. When she asked who his General was and made it seem like he was doing this on purpose. Like he was just attacking sweet cats for no reason…everything just broke.

The Captain broke into sudden, loud sobs and curled himself into a ball. “...I’m trying. Trying t-to learn how to use it…I d=don’t even know what it is…” He drew in several shallow, shaking breaths but then broke into renewed sobs. “...S-sylvite is m-my General…but I haven’t he-heard from her in a while and sh-she’s been so sad lately and I d-didn’t want to bother her I thought I could j-just get better with it and get s-stronger and she would be proud of me…my first General I…I think she…think she died…I haven’t seen her or my captain since…since ages…”

He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, and after a moment, his chest began to ache. Was…was he dying? Maybe.

It would serve him right, in all honesty.

Oh. Oh dear, he was crying. The poor thing clearly understood his offense, and it sounded as if he had been thoroughly abandoned by whoever had brought him into the Negaverse. That simply wouldn't do--he couldn't be left to suffer alone. So Soyala moved over, and pressed her entire body against his side, purring as loudly as she could.

"Oh, it's alright, I'm sorry for snapping, you just startled me," she said. Her entire expression went soft and gentle, and she nuzzled up against him. "We can find you someone who can help. Officers and their weapons aren't my specialty, but I would still be glad to offer some assistance. It sounds like you've had a very bad time of it, sweetheart, so let me help you make that better."

Gismondine sniffed and shook his head, unable to speak as he tried to draw in a breath, to clear his thoughts and to just calm down. “I…I’ll never get the h-hang of it. I wasn’t…I was…I was only bought in to die s-so I should just go and g-get on with it.” He swallowed and shook his head again, reaching down and petting her back softly, before ripping one of the flaps on his tailcoat and then making long strips of fabric as he ripped it further.

He was gentle, still crying silently as he wrapped her leg up and finally he drew away, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. “...You…you’ll be a-all right. It doesn’t seem…deep or…or anything but…”

Gismondine gave a loud sniffle and shook his head, teleporting away before saying another word.

But nothing. He had nothing else to say, he the very idea of the cat being angry with him again was enough to drive him to utter despair.

Brought in just to die? How terrible! Soyala decided, as soon as she heard that, that she was going to find out who had brought in this Gismondine and see them harshly reprimanded for what they had done to the poor boy. Sylvite would be easier, she hoped, to check in with--that was a name she could remember.

"Darling, really, it's alright," she said, and she held out her leg for him to wrap. "It wasn't bad at all. I'll recover, we can--"

And then he vanished, and she sat down with a pouty "hmph." Poor thing, he clearly needed quite a lot of help, and she would have to find out as much as she could to make sure he got it.
