Ilse was in danger.
And Michel, and Malus, but…those two were strong. They could take care of themselves, but Ilse, who was just like she was…was in danger.
Ilse who was so sweet and kind.
Ilse who had been…so much more to Lysithea than she could remember.
Clearly…they had to be ready for anything, so she had sent an invitation to the other senshi to meet her in the park. That she missed her. That she wanted to see her and talk.
Obviously there was no way that any kind of ambush could be ascertained from such a message, and obviously, there was no way for Ilse to know when she showed up, that Lysithea was going to greet her with a punch right to the gut but.
That was what an ambush was. And Faustite wouldn’t start things off by something as tame as punches.
“He wants to kill you, Ilse. You and Michel and Malus. You and I need to toughen up. Or you’ll end up dead.”
It wasn’t the nicest way to see someone after a while apart, but…she knew it would get the message across.

An invitation from Lysithea was enough to have Ilse coming running. Lysithea was dear to her, in so many ways--and even if they were taking their romantic relationship slow, their friendship was still deeply important to her. So of course when Lysithea said she wanted to talk, Ilse came as quickly as she could.
"Lysi, what did you--oof!"
She was cut off, and the breath was driven from her, and she staggered backwards, wide-eyed and shocked. For a moment, her brain rushed through all kinds of nightmare scenarios--Lysithea was furious with her, Lysithea hated her, Lysithea had decided that she actually couldn't forgive Ilse's role in her corruption--
But the explanation....well, it staved off the tears that had started to well, and she reached up to wipe them away.
"But--you--I mean..." It was true, probably, that she needed to toughen up. So, even though she was still ready to cry, she took a breath and squared her shoulders.
"Okay," she said, and then she moved, going to kick Lysithea in the side.

The look on Ilse’s face nearly broke Lysithea’s heart but she firmly ignored it, and when she watched the range of emotions that flitted across her features, she felt a strange sense of calm descend upon her. Good. At least Ilse was thinking. She understood that this was something that had to be done and she wasn’t just…getting emotional…and when she kicked Lysithea, the only thing…apart from pain…that the super senshi felt was a fierce pride.
“Yeah? Good. I’m not going to lose you. You’re too damn important to me, got that?” Her words were nearly a growl, but she moved closer, grabbing Ilse’s shoulders and pinning her up against a tree. “What are you going to do if he attacks you? How are you going to keep yourself safe? What does your magic even do?”
She didn’t know that she had first hand experience, didn’t know that it was, in part due to this very magic that she had been corrupted.
“Show me you’re not useless, Ilse. Prove it.”

Ilse inhaled sharply when Lysithea shoved her back against a tree. It hurt, yes, but moreso--well, she was pinned to a tree by the girl she was in love with. A girl who was expressing her desire to make sure Ilse stayed safe, who wanted Ilse to demonstrate her capabilities so Lysithea wouldn't have to worry about her.
If this wasn't a VN confession scene scenario--
The prospect of fighting was not a pleasant one for Ilse. she didn't like it. Didn't like risking getting hurt, or risking hurting someone else. Didn't like her magic that broke people's hearts. But it was useful, and it was strong, and so--
"Let me show you what my magic does," Ilse said, and she felt a surge of guilt when she did, "which is definitely what I would do to him, it really upset him last time. It's...it's gonna not be very nice, but it's very not useless!" She wanted Lysithea to believe in her. To not have to fear losing her. To know that if it came down to it, she could defend herself.
"Unattinable Desire!" She called, and she blew Lysithea a kiss.Quote: Ilse speaks the name of her attack, and blows a kiss. In an 8-foot radius around her, there is a swirl of blue petals, and enemies within the swirl are struck by a yearning for something or someone they consider unattainable. It can be a dream, an object, a person, or anything else. At this stage, targets will also feel a tickling in their chest and an urge to cough, and if they do so, they will cough up blue petals similar to the ones Ilse creates. These effects last for 35 seconds, but after they end, targets may be struck with a lingering feeling of sadness or loss at player discretion. Ilse can use this attack twice per battle.

Lysithea nodded, the beginnings of a smile crossing her face when Ilse said she would use her magic. Good! Good and if it was…” As the petals blew past her, pain erupted in Lysithea’s chest and she swallowed hard, eyes going very wide and pupils shrinking to pinpricks.
She gave a retching cough, and was horrified to see that she was now coughing up flower petals…that she…
Oh god. She was dying. This was what death felt like. It had to be. Everything felt as though it was spinning out of control, her vision was going black and her chest hurt so bad. She would never be happy again. That was all there was to it. She would never be Cambria. Never be Anastasia. Never be anyone or anything useful.
Shuddering, Lysithea retched again, coughing hard enough to bring up her dinner, the mess mixing with the blue petals and making a terrible, disgusting sight.
Tears swam in her eyes and the senshi gave a pathetic whimper, hoping that it would just all end soon.

Ilse was still not used to the extreme reactions her second stage magic could cause. She'd only used it twice, after all, and this was the first time she'd really gotten to appreciate it.
And seeing what it did to Lysithea....it made her want to throw up, herself.
It hurt, to see her precious friend in pain, and she moved quickly to reach out and offer hands to steady her, even though she winced at the smell and the sight before her. she would have to power down and back up to make it go away, but...that was for in a moment.
"Lysithea," she said, gently, "Lysi, it's okay, you're okay, it's just magic, it'll go away soon." Half a minute, or so. Ilse began counting in her head, praying the time would tick by faster. "Just hold on, I'm sorry, my magic, it's--I'm still not very good with it, and I--I'm really sorry, I didn't want to hurt you for real, but I wanted you to see..." Her eyes welled with tears, and she hated herself. Lysithea was the one suffering, not her.

Lysithea was trembling, and turned her head to bury it against Ilse, shaking even more with great sobs. Finally, as the magic faded, she wrapped her arms around the other senshi, clinging to her.
By the time she had calmed down enough to stop crying, She had gotten Ilse’s bodice covered in tears. When she pulled away from the senshi, her eyes were red and swollen, and Lysithea looked a special kind of miserable.
“...I don’t…don’t want you to die. I’m glad that you can take care of yourself…that…magic is powerful…I…”
She shuddered and forced herself to power down, moving away from Ilse and rubbing at her sore eyes. “...I want to go home, I think…but would…enjoy it if you would come with me? We can share my nest, if you want. For tonight.”
Faustite couldn't kill her if she was in a house filled with people who could protect her…and Zac couldn’t be angry with just one night.
Right?

Ilse nodded, and she gently reached up to stroke Lysithea's hair. When the other girl powered down, so did she, and she carefully guided them away from the mess her magic had left, wincing a little. Oh, she didn't like it very much, but....it was useful, there was no denying that.
"I'm not going to die," she promised. "I don't want to either. I'ne got too much left to do, and....and I didn't get out of the Negaverse just to let them kill me anyway."
Otherwise, it was a waste, wasn't it?
"I'd like to come home with you," she said. "Let me just text the person I'm staying with so she knows not to worry?" It sounded nice, to go back to that warm, full house, and spend time with Talia, and know that she was safe. And to just....be together.

Talia nodded and allowed herself to be led away from the undignified mess she had made, feeling so utterly empty. And just tired.
She rested against Rosie and gave a noncommittal hum. “Yeah…that’s fine. It’s all fine. I…”
She would simply bury all of this, like she did so many other things. Ilse, she was sure that Ilse would need her but…that was magic strong enough that Ilse wouldn’t need anyone.
But…it was fine. It was all fine.
“It’ll be nice to have you back. Even for just a night.” Ilse didn’t need to know what was really going on in Talia’s head. Nobody did and for that matter, nobody would.
