All through her morning workouts, Nissa had been buzzed. There was no missing her intense enthusiasm, and her coach even commented on it--that she was taking everything with more eagerness than usual. It was the buzz of her impending meeting with Evie--with another Dark Mirror--and her opportunity to prove that magic was actually a real thing that people could do.
She slid out of the skating arena, and walked down a block to the nearby coffee shop, a personal favorite of hers. There were outdoor tables, and it was the kind of day that was prefect for them. So once she had a coffee and an apple fritter, she plopped down at the table, pulled out her phone, and dialed Evie's number.
And then came the waiting game. She really, really hoped Evie picked up.

Evie did pick up. She had been waiting for the call, but at the same time had been completely sure that she would never get it. She had showered and gotten ready to go out but…
She hadn’t expected the call.
In fact, she almost dropped the phone, but managed to hit the accept button, drawing the device ot her ear and clearing her throat before speaking.
“Hello? Evie speaking.”
God. She wanted to simply ask if this was Ariadne, if this was proof that things were real, but…if it wasn’t. If it was a prank or if this was just a random call when she was waiting for one from a new friend well.
Well that would be the worst thing ever, most likely. Or, at the very least one of the worst things ever.
Reaching into her candy jar, Evie slipped a piece of cherry flavored candy into her mouth for the simple purpose of calming her nerves.

She answered! Good, that was step one. Now, step two was the harder part. Nissa had been trying to figure out what to say ever since they'd exchanged numbers the night before. She certainly couldn't just come out and say she was a Senshi, you never knew who was listening--and she furtively glanced around to see if anyone seemed suspicious, though it wasn't like she could tell.
Ugh, she was gonna have to speak in code and hope the other girl got it.
"Hi, this is Nissa? We ran into each other last night, you know...while were were both dressed up? You complimented my outfit." She laughed. "Anyway, we talked about meeting for breakfast? I'm at a little coffeeshop at sixth and Main, Perk Up? They have really good coffee and pastries, so I thought it'd be the perfect place to chat."
Ugh, she hoped she was making sense and didn't sound like a crazy person. She hoped Leona hadn't pranked her by giving her the wrong number. She hoped....a lot of things, but mainly that this actually worked out.
Nissa really, really wanted a friend. Someone she could count on both in civilian and powered life. And maybe Leona could be that, if they got to know each other better.

Nissa! What a pretty name. “...You’re the flower girl? That’s cool.” Evie hoped her voice sounded neutral and was already headed out of her apartment, locking the door behind her. “I’ll be there in about ten minutes, okay Niss? If you’re okay with waiting that long for me.”
She hesitated. “I’m going to stay on the phone though. Just in case you decide to vanish.”
Evie hurried, saying nothing into the phone, but her slightly labored breathing could be heard.
Finally, she arrived at the coffee shop and saw another girl with a phone pressed to her ear. “...Nissa? I’m hoping that you’re Nissa. Hi. I’m Evie. The cool one. Um.”
She ended the call and held a hand out. “You’re face is really pretty too, just so you know. Not just um. Your…reflection?” It seemed like as good a code word as any, and she hoped that the other girl understood.

"Yeah, the flower girl," Nissa laughed. That'd work, for code. It was funny, having to talk this way, like they were in some sort of spy thriller--dodging around saying what they meant. It was a little silly, sure but...
She really didn't want the wrong person overhearing them.
She stayed on the line, waiting, and munching on her fritter while she looked for someone--anyone--who looked even the slightest bit like she could be Leona.
The girl that finally came up to her was....oh, she was. Really cute.
"Hi, Evie," she said, and she hung up the phone call and stuck it in her pocket. "Yeah, I'm Nissa. It's nice to meet you." She giggled at the compliment, and nodded. "I'm glad you think so. You're extra cute face to face, too," she said. She was sure their conversation sounded weird to anyone listening, but she didn't care. She gestured for Evie to sit, still grinning. "So, as promised, I'm here, and I'm real. What's next?" A brief pause. "Besides you maybe going to grab something from inside. This place is great, I promise you'll love whatever you get."

“Well, I think the first thing I’m going to do, Nissa, is put your number in my phone, and after that, I want to become your friend. And then I’ll look at the menu, and we’ll have a fantastic breakfast and maybe hang out until I have to work at two, if you really want, you can come to the candy store where I work and I’ll get you some fudge that’s fresh made. But, that’s only if I really decide I like you.”
She waggled her finger and grinned.
“I’m sure that I will though. Since you’re real and all.”
It was real. She had magic. She had a friend who had magic. The very realization made Evie sway where she stood, but only for a moment. “Well, Nissa…shall we get this friendship and this day started?” Get the future started.
Perhaps they could start patrolling together too, and just…figure out this whole magic thing together and…
“I’m excited to be your friend, if you want to be mine. If she didn’t, that…well. Evie would deal. But nobody could resist fresh fudge. Those that could though…they were ones to watch out for.
