It had been over four weeks since Dani had started training with Dria. It was 4:30 AM again, and Dani was already awake and ready for training. Dria did not wake her up today. Dani looked over at Dria's side of the room. The bed was made, it was clean, and even here in the dark, she could see that Dria's school bag was gone. Had she already gone for the day?
There was a quiet knock at their bedroom door. Dani got up and answered it. To her surprise, she found Drew, there in his training clothing - a black t-shirt, with black shorts and matching socks and shoes. Apparently, gold training clothing stood out too much.
"Good morning," He whispered. "Dria had to leave early this morning. She didn't know she would have to, until this morning - she got a call early this morning, something about a problem with a project. Since I have the day off from work, would you mind if I supervised your training this morning?" Dani shook her head and thanked him.
After making her bed and dressing, she made her way to the backyard where Drew was waiting. They meditated together, then stretched, and did calisthenics (Dani's strength had greatly improved over the last few weeks, proven by the number of push-ups, sit-ups and other calisthenics that she was now able to complete).
When they got to the actual fighting training, he took a step back and told her he just wanted to see what she could do. She went over the sandbag makeshift target that Drew had left out from his and Dria's training, and that Dria was having Dani use now, and had been for the last two weeks. Dria still had taught Dani nothing new beyond the basic stances, the basic punches, and the basic kicks. Now, Dani went through each of these, working on each of them for about five or ten minutes at about 80% power.
Drew nodded when she was done. "Very good. Now I have something new to teach you." Dani's eyes lit up, but other than that, she did not express her excitement. "Very well."
He showed her a few basic Combinations. "These are Combinations. They help you think critically about how to combine each type of move more easily." Drew had her practice these a few times and asked that she memorize them.
Then he showed her something like a Combination, but much longer, and much more complicated. "This is a Form, called I Pinion. Forms are for focus, as well as for again helping you think critically about combining types of moves more easily - similar to combination - but for longer times and for more opponents. Don't worry, you're not going to get it all today. Most people take a few months to memorize it, and even years of training to perfect it. We 'll just start with a little today." He then just showed her a portion of it. Finally, they stretched and meditated - and he sent her off to the shower, just as Mom, Dad and Aunt Dia were starting to awaken.
