Aegirine felt as though she were beginning to lose her way again.
For a while, things had been going…almost well. After Jack had gone, she thought it was nothing more than a second end of the world, but then she got her job and had even managed to…well. Do a little more. Dancing lessons and the like. She had met Rose, and Rose was wonderful, but the idea of hiding who she was, what she did was beginning to eat at her.
And being a part of the Negaverse wasn’t a task that a person could slough off very easily.
Yet, that was what she was doing, and she knew that there would be repercussions if she continued to neglect her duties.
The issue was…she simply didn’t care.
Apathy was beginning to take root inside of the lieutenant and it was starting to affect her normal life too. She found herself calling out of work all too often and was growing dependent on alcohol once more, needing a drink or two to find sleep at the end of the night.
Honestly, it was growing more and more worrisome, yet.
Did it matter?
She was itching for a drink now, and even though she felt the other lieutenant nearby, she very nearly turned and left, though duty won out and she made her way over. “Greetings. Are you on patrol as well?”

Akaganeite looked forward to the prospect of finding more allies in the Negaverse. So when she felt a Lieutenant nearby, she moved to approach. People were easy; she liked people, for the most part, and liked chatting, and liked getting to know them. Besides, her experience with Celadonite had been pleasant--more than pleasant, really--and that left her more sure that she wanted to get to know her comrades.
When they met in the middle, she smiled, as welcoming as she could be.
"I am, yes," she said, and she gave a brief bow. "Lieutenant Akaganeite, at your service. Would you like a partner, for the evening? It might be safer to patrol together."

The smile was terribly reassuring, and Aegirine felt herself making the same expression in return. “It is truly a pleasure, Akaganeite. I am Aegirine. I would…actually, I would like some company a lot. It’s lonely doing this by yourself. And I honestly find myself slacking terribly. Yet, here you are to not only provide company but to provide someone to make sure I don’t just head back home.”
And drink.
The thought made her wince slightly, but she looked back to Akaganeite and shrugged. “It’s difficult to get the desire to keep going out for this occupation, honestly. I don’t…have any real reason to do so, I suppose. And no true support for when I do. Tell me, what are your goals?”
Perhaps if she could make a friend…things would be easier.

Ah, good. Someone to walk with. That sounded like a pleasant time.
"A little accountability always helps," Akaganeite said, with a light touch of laughter in her voice. She couldn't imagine slacking--though of course they were different people, with different perceptions of the work they had to do. And if Aegirine didn't have a reason to continue to pursue her work, then....well. That was a very different experience than her own, for certain.
"I, ah." She thought, for a moment. What did she want?
"I was brought into the Negaverse from the other side," she said, finally, "and I wish to demonstrate that the power expended to bring me over was worthwhile. That I am more valuable now than I was before."

“From…the other side?” Aegirine looked both confused and interested. This wasn’t…something she had heard about, though that wasn’t any kind of a surprise. She was so very ignorant about everything regarding powered life. Not all by choice, she supposed but still. Ignorance was still ignorance.
“Of course you are valuable. That…how did that happen? It sounds…quite fantastic honestly. You must be a very special person if they brought you over instead of just…killing you or…whatever they would do to an enemy. You…”
She must be amazing indeed…and as the lieutenant looked her up and down, she could understand it. She was very fit. And tall. A handsome, attractive woman too.
“I can see why they wouldn't want to destroy you. And if you’re already so dedicated…I assume that everything expended would be worthwhile.”

Akaganeite perked up. The assurance made her feel quite satisfied; Aegirine barely knew her, but she already at least saw something in her. Even if it was only her size and her physical capability. Those were something, at least; building blocks that she could create greater success from.
"There was a large battle," Akaganeite said, "and I and about a dozen others were brought into the Negaverse during the fighting. I don't remember much of it, unfortunately--changing sides completely wiped my memory--but I do know that there were very many people there on the other side, and only we were brought over."
There had to be something about them that set them apart. A potential, or...something.
"I merely hope that I can continue proving my dedication and my worth."

She no longer had her memories…and she had been one of a handful of people who had been chosen. Aegirine swallowed, suddenly feeling rather envious. “I wish that joining would have deprived me of my memories, not that I’m trying to belittle you, but I would gladly give up mine if it meant you could have yours back.”
She had nothing that felt worth the pain of remembering all of the bad which had blighted her life…but.
“I wonder if someone could help me. If there would be a way to forget my past…I know I would be a good soldier if I could just…not have…”
The lieutenant grew quiet, thoughtful. “...do you think there is anything that could be done like that? I have a lot of trauma in my past and. It affects my living, honestly. I apologize for oversharing…but I envy you..”

Oh. Akaganeite's heart broke, even just at the little bit Aegirine shared. Her expression became soft and gentle, and she reached over to put a hand on her shoulders.
"I do not know what I lost. Perhaps I, too, had many things I would have rather forgotten. And I will not patronize you by saying it is somehow brave or powerful to linger with your pain. I do not know if there is a way--I imagine going the other way would also take memories, but that would be....quite risky." She frowned, slightly. "But there may be a way, without doing that. PErhaps we can seek it for you together, if you would like?"
And, at the least, she could be Aegirine's friend.

“Do you think it’s possible? I have no desire to…go the other way. I doubt that. They would have anything for me.”
Even if the idea of doing that might cause her memories to vanish…that was…ah. That was a thought that made Aegirine’s heart pound slightly, but the hands on her shoulders were comforting.
Grounding.
“I would like that. Finding a way. It would be nice to have a friend to keep me accountable too. If you would be interested in being that friend to me.” Hesitating, the lieutenant moved closer, not really caring if she was invading Akaganeite’s space. She had initiated the contact after all. “I might be a complete bother, but you seem like you would offer wonderful hugs, and if you would be obliged, I would adore one. Please.”
It was asking too much, truly it was but. The idea of strong arms was…nearly intoxicating.

"I think that if we try," Akaganeite said, "we might be able to find an answer." It seemed like the least she could do, to offer some help.
Or, well, the least she could do was accept the poor girl's request.
"Of course," she said, and she opened her arms, pulling Aegirine in for an embrace. It felt...right, to offer this comfort, to pet her hair and soothe, because she seemed like she needed someone to look after her. "I would be glad to be that friend to you. Whatever you might need."
It seemed...right. Perhaps she had been something like this in her previous life--looking after people.

She utterly melted into the hug, giving a soft sigh that sounded as though it could turn into a sob with little to no effort. “I will be glad to have you as my friend. I’m afraid that I’ve been falling back on my horrid habits and have become quite dependent on alcohol once more…I was doing better. I just…”
Aegirine was so utterly and completely lonely.
“Again, I apologize for oversharing, but…I’m afraid I’ll end up doing something stupid and nobody would even know. Or care. So If…I have someone who knows. Maybe I…”
She cut herself off and shook her head. “Thank you for wishing to be my friend.”

Kaga took a breath. This...went so much deeper than she had realized, and there was so much hurt here...She looked around, briefly, just to confirm it was safe, and then she let go of her powered form, continuing to stroke her hand over Aegirine's hair.
"I will check on you," she said, "to make sure nothing like that happens. My name is Ei--and we are going to be friends. And I will do my best to help you." She wasn't sure how much she could do, but she could at least be a friend. She could maybe try and help Aegirine find support, and point her in the direction of better things.
Not that she really knew how to do that--but perhaps just knowing someone cared would be a start.
