Coracias was finishing up a morning in the fields as the late-winter sun reached it's apex. There wasn't as much they had to do at this point of the year farming-wise - rather, they were ensuring the land would be suitable for the next crop. It seemed to be going well, and come spring, the planting could progress smoothly.

Along with her work as a farmhand, the angel was also progressing quite quickly in her sommelier apprenticeship - by now she could pick out the nuances of the different grape varietals, the effects of casking and aging, and differentiate between the different bottling years. She knew which wines were authentic and which had the profile of a bootleg, along with the knockoffs being attempted elsewhere across the island. She was confident, and that confidence passed to her instructor.

Very soon she could take the title with pride.

With that, she'd once again reach a crossroads in her life - a decision point to determine what to do from here. She rather enjoyed the place and the pae she'd met in her time here, but she'd soon accomplish what she'd come here to do. Normally that'd be the point at which she'd look for her next goal, but she found herself somewhat conflicted, as if there were still things that could be only accomplished here. Regrets she'd leave with rather than behind. It was a strange feeling.

Gazing off to the distance down the traveler's path, she wiped her brow with a dirtied hand and mused on such things in the midday

Today was Mail Day for Miriam. Rather than traveling back and forth from her hometown to Telrunya City, she delivered messages within the town itself. They had no real central place for it, so it naturally fell to Miriam. She carried scrolls (actual letters from other pae) and bits of parchment (messages that others had told her in passing; "hey, if you see PaeBob tell them this!" which she'd scribbled down to remember) in a canvas bag slung across her shoulder. Most of the messages wound up being for one of her mothers, which lightened her load considerably, but today she did have stops at the pub, the glassblower, and the coinsmith. She headed down the "main street" (the only street) of the village, waving to an angel she recognized as Coracias as she passed her. "Morning," she said cheerfully as she passed.

Cora glanced over with a smile to the blue-er of the two wolfen girls in the village - the courier girl, Miriam - as she passed by. She waved her over and walked a few steps to meet her halfway. It'd been a while since she'd last heard from her sister, so she was expecting correspondence in the near future. "You wouldn't happen to have anything for me today, would you?" Upon a quick, literally closer inspection, the girl seemed more relaxed today, more refreshed. So she tagged on, "I take it your recent vacation went well?"

Menelie
Miriam didn't remember getting anything for Coracias, but ruffled around in her bag. "Nnnnnot today," she responded. "Are you expecting something? I'll be making some stops in other villages later this week." She straightened her bag and nodded to the angel's next question, her tail swishing back and forth. "It was great; thanks for asking." She didn't bother asking how Coracias knew she was on vacation. It was a small town. "Very refreshing. Nothing like a change of scenery, right?"

Daisicle
Cora nodded. "My sister should be sending a parcel soon, or at least I presume she should be. It's been a while since I heard from her. It'd be best if I contacted her soon, but I need to make sure I know where to send it." She moved her arm to twist a piece of hair that'd fallen into her face and place it behind her ear, then again to grab the other one at the elbow from behind. That was right - it was time to begin preparations to continue onward, wasn't it? "That's good to hear - you'd be surprised how useful even a slight shift in environment is."

Menelie
"Oh, alright," said Miriam with a nod. "I'll keep an eye out. If I get anything for you I'll let you know right away." She took out a scrap of parchment and scribbled a note as such on it. "Mhm," she agreed. "I'm sure to visit again soon." She briefly got a bit of a far-off expression. "Did you know they make a liquor there made of sugarcane?" she asked.

"Please do, thank you." Cora tilted her head slightly as she thought to herself. "Sugarcane liquor? Mmm... That would be rum wouldn't it?" Her gaze shifted up as she went through her memories. "I believe they'd be importing the sugar from Sunrise Terrace and distilling it on-site to produce it. I haven't had it myself, but given the description of Partyzia, I'd say such drink suits it." She looked back down. "How did it compare to brandy?"

Menelie
"I quite liked it," said Miriam, shifting her weight to stand more comfortably. "It was sweet and didn't quite have the same burning feeling I get from brandy. Not that I've had it all that often," she added, making a distasteful face. She took a moment and gathered her hair, which had been swinging loose, into a ponytail and then wrapped it around itself into a loose bun. Then she pulled the tie that had been around her wrist around the bun, then cinched it tight. "Hey, I don't mean to pry," she started, assuming a casual stance. "But like, what's going on with you and my cousin? Masozi?"

Daisicle
Cora was slightly impressed at how quickly Miriam was able to get her hair put up, only to reach up and mess with a lock of her own. "Don't worry, nothing's going on between me and the bossman." She'd made sure of it a little while ago. "He doesn't even come near my section these days."

Menelie
"Yeah, but like, why not?" asked Miriam. "You guys were like all flirty and stuff for a while and then suddenly nothing." She put her hands on her hips. "I mean, I try to stay out of all this since I'd rather focus on finding my own man, but it's hard not to, small town and all that. Did he say something dumb or something?"

Cora blinked twice as she intentionally maintained a pleasant smile, internally agreeing that it really wasn't any of Miriam's business, but outwardly displaying none of this. "I mean, he's my boss. Some teasing is one thing, but it would be completely inappropriate to go further than that - small town or not."

Menelie
Miriam blinked. "Is that all?" she said. "I mean if you're not into it that's one thing, but a job's a pretty easy thing to change around here. There's plenty of work to be done if you want to just...not work for him anymore."

Daisicle
"I hadn't really considered it further than that." she stopped messing with her hair. "I came here to learn about the wine, and since I've about finished that, I was thinking it was almost time to move on. Hadn't decided much beyond that if I'm being honest."

Menelie
Miriam gave a small shrug. "Seems to me like there's not really anything stopping you from giving it a shot while you figure out your next move. Just sayin'." Her attention shifted abruptly as she saw Kasmai exit the glass forge. Headed to the pub for lunch, she imagined--he'd been doing that a lot lately. She could deliver two messages with one stop. "Hey--I gotta run. Good luck!" She did a little skip before breaking into a jog to catch up with Kasmai. "Kasmai!" she called, waving.
