It was one of those really rowdy nights at the local tavern in Belrea, but Ephrym did not mind in the slightest. The man was fully enjoying himself before preparing for another voyage off into the unknown, members of his crew scattered about the same tavern tonight while others were spending their time elsewhere within the city by the docks. Tonight though Ephrym had simply wanted some drinks and was spending his time at one of the corner tables with a mug of ale and some fresh bread and salty fish to help drown out the bitter taste of his drink. It warmed his stomach though and that was what mattered on a misty night like tonight when the rains were finally settling from the nearby ocean, the promise of sunlight tomorrow giving him hope that they would be sailing soon.

"Oiy did ya hear about the legendary that have been appearing throughout the world!?" A few patrons cheered and shouted out their input as another performer came on stage to share stories about men and women appearing that had started showing strange traits like horns and feathers. For Belrea it was a strange thing indeed, almost like something created by an experiment while others thought it much more magical and rare almost like a blessing from the spirits. Ephrym could only shake his head and chuckle as he tried to imagine what it must be like to have something legendary. What would he get? Some sort of mermaid tail for being in the water so much? Gills? "It's a bunch of foolishness." He stated with a grin as he focused once more on his drink and listened to the stories being shared throughout the establishment.

When it rained, it poured and pour it seemed to do as soft soled shoes splashed through a couple puddles before ducking under the cover of a building's awning. Neryssa stopped just outside the tavern's door to shake what water she could off her cloak before entering, though water still dripped to the floor. The atmosphere was warm and cheery, there was a lot of talk going around. Pushing back the well soaked hood of her cloak, her mess of blue hair falling in slick locks. Pulling off the cloak to hang by the door with a multitude of others, she looked around with bright golden eyes that seemed to dance. Music was playing here and other dancers were up on the stage, she might find herself there when she wasn't shivering.

Shaking her head, the Matori wandered through those that laughed and gathered, feeling a little out of place, though there were many mixes here. But it was more the fact she was still young and alone in a place mostly filled with burly men and such. Neryssa found herself at the bar in no time where she ordered something hot to drink, tea was always something she enjoyed. As she stood waiting for her order, she caught snip-its of the conversations that were floating above the music. Legendary with strange markings, added things? This caught her interest but wasn't too sure whom to turn to ask what they were meaning.

Finally her order was up and she took her tea and set to searching for a table, as she did she wandered towards the back, bumping a few as she went. Whispering an apology when she could, but it seemed that not many really noticed her or just gave a smile before moving on. Giving a small sigh, Neryssa found an empty seat and placed herself there, sipping at her tea. Glancing to her side she noticed someone else was sitting at a table next to her own.

"Very cheerful in here, ain't it?" She asked the strange Geian/lightning man that seemed to just be enjoying his own drink. "Seems also there is a lot of gossip going around."

Ephrym was the type to welcome any sort of company and seeing a cute Matori girl settling in next to his own table made the hybrid perk up. He had not planned on bothering her but she was already addressing him and it was only courteous to respond. "It usually is." He smiled warmly towards her as he settled back in his chair to pick up pieces of gossip that was spreading throughout the crowds now that another storyteller had finished their tale of the legendary. It felt like ever since Belrea had found the other continent that things had gotten a lot more interesting and fantastical with the stories, especially now that a lot of explorers had been in and out the foreign lands. Ephrym loved it and now that he had been to the other continent a few times the sailor found some of the stories a bit exaggerated while others he could easily believe considering all of the adventures he had personally experienced overseas. However, finding someone with vines or feathers growing from their skin was something he had yet to do which made him doubt some of the rumors going about the tavern.

"A lot of sailors come here to rest and catch up with others that have been out to sea or in the Belrean case...out in the skies." He joked lightly before studying the Matori. It was not his first encounter with someone from those lands, especially considering his own navigator on his ship was actually a Matori mage and his ship's sniper and cook was also half-Matori. "What do you think? You come from Matori, right? Have you ever encountered someone with these legendary traits?"

((Sorry for the huge delay! I always seem to forget about these things. ))

Neryssa glanced back around at the tavern and at those that were spinning tales and all the gossip that was rolling around. There seemed to be a bit of it and all was getting a bit scrambled and muddled with each telling and argument that may arise. Shaking her head she glanced back at the hybrid that she had spoken to just moments before.

"Seems a bunch of the locals like coming here too to hear what there is to be told." Neryssa commented with a small smile before taking a sip at the tea she had ordered. Matori is my home, Ma had spoken stories of such things. Matorians that had scales that covered bits of their skin or that they get markings get are brighter." She gave a little bit of a shrug. "What about you? Anything from your travels?" She asked in kind wondering if he had seen anything out there.

"Oh, also forgive me, my name's Neryssa." She introduced herself with a small bow to her head.

The pounding of the rain outside was drowned out by the rowdiness of the crowd as sailors and the like continued to socialize while enjoying the music provided by various bards. Still, Ephrym found himself distracted for a moment by the sound of thunder in the distance that made him wary of what tomorrow would bring. Just get the storm out of your system already. He quipped silently to the sky before glancing back towards the Matori with amusement. "Matori with scales and bright markings...they didn't run into the Kahi did they?" Ephrym teased lightly as he took the last swig of ale before asking for another mug, opting to enjoy as much time in the tavern as possible while the storm continued outside.

"Ephrym." The hybrid captain gave a playful wave of his hand as he introduced himself. "As for my travels I've seen quite a few interestin' things." He began as he thought over it all. "Even swear I saw an Aishan that had furry antenna instead of normal ones. Think that could be a legendary trait? Another man said he saw someone with glowing eyes like a Yaeli, but it was someone that looked like he was from Sauti with a blue glow!" Ephrym shook his head with amusement. "Always wondered about that and how the Yaeli could see past such a strange glow on their eyes...must be interestin' especially if you weren't born with it."

"Kahi... What? What are those?" Neryssa asked tilting her head to one side a bit. That was something she had never heard of before. Were they a new race or people in the world? Were they here on Belrea? Or another area in the world she didn't know about? "There seems to be more in this world that I need to see." She mused more to herself, but was perhaps spoken loud enough to be heard over the chatter around them.

"An Aishian with furry antenna? You sure? That one seems a little farfetched." she commented before fussing with her cup of tea that was getting colder as time passed. "Then again, there is so much unknown in this world that many things and just about anything is possible."

Glancing back towards the growing crowds, the rain outside making it very clear that it was still not safe to be outside. Neryssa gave a sigh as it seemed that she would be sitting here for while yet. Perhaps even finding a room for the night. Her fin like ears flicked slightly as Ephrym mentioned something back Yaeli eyes.

"That is something to ponder. I can't imagine having glowing eyes. Must startle others in the dark where there is no light. Certainly if they are different colors." She mused. "I should really get out into the world more and see more. Belrea is nice, but there is so much adventure out there as well." Neryssa looked back at Ephrym, "I am just not sure where to go from here. Suppose I could fly back to Sauti..." She pondered openly, "You have any ideas of where I should head?"

"Ya don't know about the Kahi?" Ephrym frowned as he studied the Matori. Then again maybe it made sense if someone had just recently travelled to Belrea perhaps news of the new foreign lands hadn't reached her ears yet. "It's a whole new world, several islands with foreigners who have a crazy affinity for water. Can stay underwater for hours without trouble, others say they have bright markings along their bodies that almost seem like scales in the right light." Ephrym gave a slight shrug. "But who knows? I haven't been there just yet so I'll let ya know once I actually venture into those lands." He joked with a small grin, taking another swig of his ale as he simply enjoyed relaxing in the tavern and talking to a pretty stranger.

All he could do was chuckle at her disbelief before nodding. "It's definitely possible, anything is in our world." He agreed. There truly was so much that they didn't know! Just look at the appearance of the Kahi in the southern seas! How could anyone have guessed a bunch of islands were down there waiting to greet them? Well greet us if the weather allows. Ephrym pursed his lips thoughtfully as he listened to the rain pelting against the windows, the storm still going outside and keeping anyone from really leaving save for those few brave souls willing to run outside into this mess.

The sudden question had Ephrym chuckling. "I'm probably the last person to ask for destinations since I can't sit still. My crew is heading into Kahi soon before looping back towards Belrea then to Matori and Oba for trading purposes. We've travelled all over since merchants are willing to pay a good amount for things across the world, the less they have to travel the more we can earn while also enjoying any adventure along the way. Who knows? Maybe we'll find some legendary traits in the foreign islands or come back with some strange markings of our own."

"You plan to travel to these islands?" This question was more to herself then anyone else. She had been debating on seeing if she could get onto a ship somewhere and sail away. "These people from Kahi sound very interesting." Neryssa nodded as she looked back towards Ephrym. "Would it be too bold to as if I can accompany you on this adventure? I would of course depart in Matori as that would be home."

She didn't want to be too heavy of a burden. She wasn't too sure of what she could do on the ship to not be a slacker, but she was sure there was something. Glancing back out the window, she didn't think she was going to be heading back out that night... The weather in this area sometimes hit hard and lasted a while. "But of course, if not I could find another way to get home that doesn't deal with air travel." She said trying to reassure herself that if one plan failed, another might be waiting for her out there somewhere.

Ephrym nodded, the captain full of confidence as he admitted to his ship’s next destination. “I plan on being one of the very first ships to get there.” He grinned at the very thought. “First dibs on the goods for trade should bring in some decent profits.” The hybrid leaned back before blinking in surprise at the question. Another for his crew? “It would be a long journey, miss. We’ll be exploring and barterin’ for what could be months then coming back to Belrea before getting to Matori. Is that what you truly want?” Ephrym crossed his arms and studied the Matori thoughtfully. She wouldn’t be the first petite Matori to join his crew…even if only temporarily. “If you join then I expect help on deck when necessary since we won’t be acting as a passenger ship this time around. Do you have particular skills?” If so then he could be swayed. They did have plenty of room minus what he was saving for storing goods for trade.

The thought of joining this person on his ship to travel had been a grand idea at first, but then he asked if she had any skills. This Neryssa opened her mouth, but promptly closed it as she looked away and back to the cup that she had still in her hands. She hadn't even been on a ship, not one that traveled the open waters. She had traveled here by the ones that crossed the skies. Frowning she gave a bit of a sigh.

"I have never been on a ship that sailed on the water. I wouldn't know the first thing of how to help." She admitted, she was good at entertaining and bringing laughter to others, but actually working? That was a big fat nope. "The trip you speak of sounds like it would be very long, but fun. Meeting other races and getting to trade and barter with them." She paused as she mused at what sorts of goods could be gotten from these newer lands and places.

"But I suppose it will be a while yet before I can visit them." She said with a small smile. "I would hate to take up space and not be able to make up for it. Dancing does little in the face of working on a ship."

Ephrym chuckled. "Well if there's a will then there's a way. Not sayin' that we couldn't sneak in a passenger but that's a long vacation considerin' how far we plan on sailing." He admitted, taking a long drink of his ale as he pondered the situation. "Dancing can be entertaining and we could use someone to brighten up the space, too many sailors can get a bit borin' after a few days on the ocean." He joked lightly before leaning back. So she was a dancer, hmm? But she seemed to be interested in traveling as well...it would be a shame to waste someone's dreams. He was quite a softie when it came to such things considering his own perseverance to chase his own desires about the open ocean after all this time.

"Let me propose this since I hate to destroy a cute girl's hopes." Ephrym smiled towards Neryssa, his gaze bright and honest as he gave her an offer. "If you don't mind a long voyage and are capable of at least helping out in the kitchens or with our healer's requests, nothing crazy demanding like helping with the upper decks but something to keep the ship clean and sailin' fine, then I could offer you room onboard towards Kahi. It would give you time in the afternoons and evening to explore as you pleased, especially when we dock at ports along the way." He took another drink and placed his mostly empty glass of ale down on the table, curious about what her reaction would be.

Neryssa glanced over towards the man that she had been talking to. It seemed that he had a offer to give to her? Fin like ears seemed to perk up a bit as he mentioned the long trip. She had been in Belrea for a few years it felt like. She was feeling stagnant, stuck in place. She had come to this place with her sister who was, who knew where by now. Probably found herself someone to make her own family with. Shaking her head she almost missed what was being said.

"I'm good with long trip. Maybe even learn more about this Legendary thing or even meet someone of that standing?" She mused, "So long as there is music, I can dance. Haven't done any dancing in a while, this place is very busy."

It was true that she hadn't gotten a chance to show off her talents. Dancing at bars that allowed it wasn't much. She hoped that maybe she could bring joy to other people? Then there was the expectation of helping during the trip. She could help with something, hopefully.

"I can certainly try, I don't know much about cooking or working with healers. But I am willing to learn, who knows when I might need the experiences." She beamed, this sounded like it was going to be the start of a wonderful journey.

Though... She looked out the window at the rain and wind. The weather had to clear up and seas had to calm before anyone moved out from the sheltered cove...

Ephrym let out a soft chuckle. "It's fine as long as you're willing to learn." He acknowledged with a small smile towards the Matori. It wouldn't be the first time he had someone fresh on board that had to learn the ropes, after all. Plus like he said before it could be entertaining to have a dancer on board, they just needed a minstrel next and then they'd be set for some fun afternoons while sailing across the ocean! The trip towards Kahi would take quite a few days of open ocean and could use a bit of fun to keep the crew from going completely stir crazy.

"Well it sounds like we're in agreement. The Misty Maiden will be leaving early tomorrow afternoon, come to the docks by tomorrow morning and we'll get you settled in." Ephrym smiled as he waved down another glass of ale, the captain settling in for a bit longer until the storm passed. "It should clear up completely by tomorrow, but for now I think I'm just going to relax here until I get the chance to run back before the next wave of rain."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 07, 2024 3:43 pm

"The Misty Maiden, a nice name for a vessel of the seas." Neryssa mused over the name of the ship. While it was going to become a home away from home, she was going to enjoy it. Her own gaze turned towards the weather outside the window. "Oh, I also have two small companions from home. One is a Maglardilla and a Sitara. Both are very well behaved, the Sitara will likely just hangout on a railing and sun himself all day long. The other... Likely stay where my stuff is. He's not a very social critter." She gives in warning, not wanting others to be alarmed when she arrived with the two.

As she was looking out the window, Neryssa gave a bit of a shuddered as she paid for her own tea and started to get up. Her inn was a couple streets over and it was where she had left the critters. She hoped that they were alright, she had been gone longer than expected. "I hope that this rain lightens up soon. I'm staying at another inn a couple streets over. With the rain coming down as it is, I will likely be a drowned mouse out there." Rubbing at her arms a little she stood close to the window watching the wind swept water move along the street. She would have to make a run for it, before it go too much darker and the street lamps were lit.
