He had walked past her balcksmith stall many times. He had stumbled upon it by accident a while ago and he had been working slowly on a plan ever since. After many scrapped ideas he finally had figured out what might work.
He waited for a pause in the ringing blows emanating from the forge. Interrupting a woman at work was never the best idea.
It was a neat small place. Perfect for someone just starting out.
He knocked on one of the beams.
"Fang, I have a proposal to make."

It was a hot day and swinging a hammer for hours wasn't exactly breezy or cool work. She was grateful that the last piece from the recent order was finished the hammering protion. She would fit all of the tangs to their lovely wooden handles and their comission fee would set her up for a while. SHe could even start construction on her house.
"Oh?" she asked the hybrid who always seemed to find her.

"I was..well I was hoping you might come on a bit of a date, a bit of a trip with me. A bit of both really, my Dad got an order for sailscales so he asked me to go catch some in Sauti."
It was kind of an odd date idea but he had never really been a conventional person. He figured he would play to his strengths and that meant traveling and beast taming. He tried very hard not to hold his breath while he awaited her answer.

She tilted her head, resisting a smile. wouldn't want Sir Frownsalot to know that he had made her happy by asking. Many had tried to ask her out of course, it came with working in public. But Ushiwa had at least tried to get to know her first.
She had thought that might be why he kept appearing in her life.
"Consider this that favor you mentioned so long ago and I will come."
She could be crafty when she wanted to. It came with her history.

He blinked, he had forgotten about that favor. "Deal." he said. Doing his best to hide his elation and trying not to think too hard about it. It wasn't a favor to go on a date with himself, he was awesome after all.
"Excellent, can you ride? It's a really long walk and riding would take less time." He was already considering the mounts available to him.

"Well I have never had the financials in order to buy a mount, so no I'm not able to ride yet. But seeing as the distance to Sauti is so great, I suppose I could learn."
She was both excited and scared at the thought. She had always wanted to try, but mounts as a rule were large, they had to be to carry people.
"I don't suppose you have one of those giant tortoises? That would be about my speed." She smiled brightly. A disturbingly rare occurance.

He admired her bravery. And laughed at the tortoise comment. "We do actually , but it would take longer for him to get there than for us to walk it."
"Meet me at the house tomorrow morning, I will have a few mount options prepared for you. Gentle ones with lots of experience so you dont' have to worry about unnessessary antics."
"I better go pack, and thank you for coming."

She arrived bright and early at his home to see him brushing out a line of critters, no doubt his prime choices for her mount.
There were janarim, xaraan, snaptrotter and even a few radaku.
"No Quhar huh?" She asked, coming up to him but giving the animals a respectful distance.
She pointed to a royal blue snaptrotter with large red blotches and said. "That one please."

"Ahh Malibu, excellent choice. He is protective of his riders as well." For someone who didn't know beasts that well she had chosen a good one. He got their mounts saddles and soon enough after leanring the controls she was good to go.
"Don't worry, when you get off, the saddle soreness is not permanent."
He saluted her bravery. Not everyone would sign up for a days long tirp having not ridden before.

The trip to Sauti was as long as she remembered. At least they were not going all the way to Zena. Sauti was cool, not cold but still harsh enough to warrant a good shiver now and then.
Sailscales lived on the cliffs and she climbed with Ushi's help, she rather thought that this was perhaps the most challenging date ever. The view of his well shaped rear was rather less pleasurable when she was clinging to a rock face with a questionable drop below her.

Well she hadn't balked at the giant cliff either. He might be onto something here. He helped her up over the edge and they stealthily crept toward the nest of sailscales. He would be sure to feed and rest his date really well after this. Anyone who could keep up with him deserved to be pampered.
Maybe some hotspring when they got back. She was awfully good at sneaking too.

They snuck into the nesting caves while most of the sailscales were out hunting. She had sailscale eggs in all of her pockets now and so did he.
Their mission had been quite successful. It was apparently even easier to train the beasts from hatchlings as it was adults. Something about imprinting.
As they were scaling back down the cliff a great commotion broke out.
"Must be a sermal up there nest raiding,' she whispered. Evidently it had not been as careful as they had been. They had been careful not to steal all the eggs from any one nest. Respect.

Once all the eggs were safely stowed they hit the road until dusk when they made camp. He brought her a bouquet of wildflowers that he had stealthily picked upon the way for her.
He gave her blankets and tea and made soup for dinner. Just what was needed on a cold Sauti night.
"Thank you for coming with me. It was way more fun to have your company."
"I know it wasn't really the most relaxing date but you really impressed me with your resiliance and shear sneakiness."

She grinned and still bundled in the blankets she gave him a small kiss on the cheek before returning to her spot.
"I was glad that you asked me." I would have come, favor or no. It was fun. I may need two weeks to recover though if you have any more adventures planned. Please look me up if your Father ever needs us to do this again." She had even gotten a little better with the height of the cliff. Of course he had done his best to make it safe for her and he had done most of the climbing where she couldn't.
She was quite saddle sore but she herself made sure that Malibu was well groomed and comfortable as she had been shown.
