Tor Merle - Das Tor
Tor had never regretted tasting a sample of something more in their entire life. The pink-haired enby made a frustrated noise, leaning against a shelf as they tried to wash the taste of...whatever it was that they'd tried out of their mouth. After a moment, they noticed they weren't alone, and offered their water bottle to the other person suffering. "Filing a complaint about whatever that monstrosity was on the way out?"
Eos Galvus
Cherish wasn't really picky, usually. Even food she disliked, she'd eat as needed and that left her wondering if tasting this monstrosity was worth her energy. For some reason it tasted like baked cream cheese smelled and not in the nice ways cream cheese might end. It was about peanut butter consistency, in a nigh-flavorless little crust,, and flavorless ham bits and no. Vegan quiche was fifty kinds of no, and Cherish ducked down the refrigerator aisle to gag, toss the cup, and recover from that... Wait, if it was vegan, that wasn't ham.
Someone ruined a perfectly serviceable Portobello in the name of vegan food(?) like a monster. Cherish wasn't vegetarian, but she certainly was unimpressed by the tastes and finally smacked her mouth a couple moments before sighting someone else most unimpressed by the affront to food, and waved, smacking again.
"Hi. Let me guess, nasty frozen vegan quiche from hell?"

"Is that what that was supposed to be?" Tor wrinkled their nose, then sighed. "Yeah. Sample right around the corner? It was horrible. Tasted like a musty basement -smells-." They held a hand out to the other, small smile on their face. "Things like that are just...an affront to the culinary world. I'm Tor, by the by."
Eos Galvus
"It's an insult to mushrooms, I swear." Cherish admitted. She reached, shaking the other's hand firmly before inclining her head a bit.
"Cherish. And what annoys me is I'm normally not horribly affronted by much food. That tasted like feet smell." She smacked once, gagging. "Did you spy any beverage samples because I need one."

"Not an insult. It was an affront to mushroom rights. On par with a human rights violation." They shook Cherish's hand while making a face of disgust. "A pleasure to meet you, however. I think I saw a new Gatorade flavor being sampled about three aisles down? You want to head over there and see how many others have had to cleanse their palettes of that monstrosity?"
Eos Galvus
"Gatorade is glorious." Cherish grimaced, not realizing how many electrolytes the powered life burned through.
Actually she had taken time off to bond with her father's family a bit and she still felt... Weird? Accepted anyhow? Even with two little brothers. Little brothers. Still, she lived on her own pushing her civilian life along like a train wreck.
"It's Costco. Everyone's tasted those little demoncups. Samples are how I find groceries to last a couple weeks. Not. Those. How can the service lady SMILE about that abomination?!" HORRIBLE.

"It is!" They motioned for Cherish to follow, sighing. "Honestly? Of late? Probably just the pay. Or she's a sadist who gets off on seeing our suffering." They huffed. "I'm not the best cook in the world, but I do better than that. My future mother-in-law would disown me if I hadn't learned something from her!"
Eos Galvus
"I can feed myself." Cherish shrugged. "Well enough anyhow." A pause, and a cough. "Well that's a lie, I like to cook, but I'm trying to finish getting my life in order and I live on my own, so I functionally need to do all the things." And attempt powered life, and work. How did people do that?! She did not know. "I mean, a lot of food I made is Asian and from different countries, but I can't always go to H-Mart." And a pity, that.
"Aaaaaw." Tor frowned, adjusted the strap of their bag as they approached the Gatorade samples. "You're fine, though. H-Mart is great, but Costco is not bad for some of the stuff that's good to stock up on. Rice, potatoes, flour, sugar, all that. Also, things you can freeze. My fiance and I freeze more than a few things, since sometimes, neither of us is up to cooking and just want something we can toss in the microwave if we've had a long day. Or night. Depending on what our schedule is at the time."
Eos Galvus
"Must be nice, dating." Cherish admitted, shrugging a bit. "I'm admittedly... Single. First dealt with some family horsecrap, then just... Getting my life reassembled." She sighed, shaking her head. "Yeah, my advice is always ask questions. And chase answers."
She still resented not knowing her father better as a little girl and the woman huffed shakingly. "I guess? I'm still getting used to kid brothers." She coughed awkwardly. "I have no idea what to do with little kids and Eric likes attaching to my legs. Ahhh..." A pause.
"My parents never married. Mom just... Teen preggo'd with my Dad and hid who he was. Needless to say, Dad's family is new but I'm trying. Do little kids normally cling?"

Tor blinked, taking on of the sample cups to sip at. "That sounds pretty hectic. Among other things. Honestly, I'm not really sure about little siblings, but..." They smiled slightly. "I know what it's like, putting your life back together. You sound like you need some tea and a good support network. The latter especially. The people in your life can make a huge difference."
Eos Galvus
"I have my Dad, most times. When I visit." Cherish took a sample, sipping it neatly before shrugging. "It's... Kind of weird cutting my twin out, but Dad's little kids seem... Fine.... One keeps clinging to me if I visit. Younger one's basically my Dad's third arm." Cherish hadn't been to his house for some time, but as time ebbed on she was closer. Meeting Little Brothers(TM) felt so weird.
Seriously, how busy how fast had her dad gotten with his wife now?... So, so weird to think there were little children related to her. Probably best her mother's family didn't know or they'd... Guilt her father for being happy or something equally stupid. Cherish sipped a little bit, and sighed, shaking her head.
"Anyhow, I doubt you wanted to hear me complain or be weirded out. I'll figure kid siblings out." She wasn't dating, anyhow, so she was usually free to babysit!... And evidently this was great, except one hated when Lawrence was out of sight and the other was clinging like his adult sister was everything he needed to feel safe besides mom. WHY.

Tor chuckled, shaking their head. "You're fine! I get being weirded out by new family. Like...my future mother-in-law? She's not at all the 'typical mother-in-law'. We get along, she mothers on me, not a single hint of Karen. And my siblings-in-law are all older than me. I've never been the youngest. I've always been the oldest among my cousins. And one of my jobs is...well, it's always weird. Never know what's going to happen during a day."
Eos Galvus
"Sounds like my night job." Cherish chuckled, then shrugged. "Dad's wife is... Fine, I suppose. I like her." Cherish contemplated a moment, then motioned. "Hey, I doi drive, if you wanna hang and finish shopping... Grab a non0nasty hot dog at the mini cafe. Costco dogs are generally pretty good." And it killed time she was otherwise wasting on decorating a new recipe binder anyhow.
"That sounds good. Make something food out of this whole 'samples gone wrong' fiasco, yeah?" Tor grinned, tossing their sample cup before offering Cherish their arm with a flourish. "Shall we, m'lady?"
Eos Galvus
"Yep." Cherish nodded, and motioned, leading Tor down the aisles as they moved on, back facing the disgusting samples.
