Love is in the air and it is exhausting. It seems everyone is so excited to meet someone new and see if they 'click'. To the point where this new trend has spread across Tendaji - Blind Dates.
The concept is pretty simple - you have a friend (or a matchmaker) set up a date with someone you've never met before. Some find this exhilarating - a chance to go beyond the same old and meet someone new. But others see this as unnecessary anxiety forced upon them by their friends or society's pressure.
Either way, you find yourself set up on a date not of your choosing, with a stranger who you've never met before. This could either be the person of your dreams...or a big mistake. Guess the only thing you can do is see where this date takes you.
---
For those who are already in a relationship, it's hard to host a 'blind date', but you can get close. It's time to surprise your significant other with a night date, just the two of you. No family, no children, just a chance to spend time with the one you love.
[ It's date night! This prompt should include a date with a stranger, either set up by your friends or by a matchmaker. If you're RPing your character with another, we ask that it be someone new (within reason to where your character is currently located). If you're RPing alone, create a new NPC and see where the night takes you.
Who knows, maybe this will be your character's future partner...or maybe an awkward enemy. What's the harm in the name of love?
For those who have characters already in a relationship, we're instead looking for a "Surprise Date" where one of the partners surprises the other with ad ate experience. ]
Kahukura was in a bind.
She'd been in need of a healer after spraining her ankle attempting to catch an alol - they were just such strange little creatures - but had lacked funds. The amount of earthlings who were ready to trade services for odd stones and bits of seaglass were surprisingly slim, though the healer she'd been lead to had brought up another idea entirely. A blind date with an acquaintance of theirs and that....Well, at first she'd been ready to just wrap her wrist and be done with it. After a good deal of convincing the awkward hybrid had relented.
And now she waited. She'd tried to dress herself up nice like her twin might have, but seeing as Kura hadn't come with many clothing options she'd settled on a top that didn't have a hole in it. Maybe that was enough?

It would be good practice, right?
Lutana let out a soft sigh as she fixed her scarf back around her curls. The humidity along the edges of Jahaur only added to the fluff and normally while she didn't mind so much today was apparently special. Or at least she had been told that it would be best if she looked nice for this meeting. Date had been the exact word but her mentor's friend had spun the situation in such a way that Lutana had agreed to attend as practice for her craft. Pouches of crushed tea leaves swayed along her hips, their cracked leather holder sitting snug along her hips as she came into the room with her colorful skirts swishing about her ankles. A tray was in her hand, a pair of earthen mugs stacked upon one another with a steaming pot of hot water perfectly balanced in the middle.
She paused in surprise at seeing her companion. While Lutana didn't care about the physical aspects (love was love after all) this was her first encounter with an Elarian hybrid. Interesting! Was this why her mentor had pushed her to attend this date? She knew that Lutana had an interest in things that may startle others and Lutana did think the other girl was lovely indeed. "Kahukura, right?" She gave a nod in greeting, her hands curled around the tray as she navigated her way towards the table. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Lutana." She wasn't certain what the other girl had been told so Lutana simply sat down the tray and separated the cups, one for each of them. "Do you enjoy tea?"

Kahukura did her best to make herself comfortable. The accommodations weren't to blame - even if the space was clearly tailored for earthling frames - but rather her unease with herself. She didn't normally spend so much time in towns and would much rather have been off in the jungle, left to her own devices. Elarian hybrids were in even shorter supply on the mainland which meant that no matter where she went she drew eyes and the naturally awkward girl melted under their curious gazes.
Especially since some of the older generations were less curious and more angry.
When she heard the approach of another Kura turned her head and her heart stuttered. She's gorgeous. She smelled of tea leaves and looked like the stars themselves had been sent in mortal form. "I do, but not if it's too sweet." Her voice was barely above a murmur and instead of outright staring at Lutana, Kahukura turned her gaze to the table instead.

"Understood." Lutana nodded as she settled down at the table, shifting her skirts around her legs to get more comfortable before carefully pulling out a pouch of darker tea leaves. "You can feel free to sit down, I don't bite." She teased with a small smile towards the other girl. "Usually that is." Her mentor may have snapped at her for teasing in such a manner but this was a date and not an actual ceremony so surely practice could be a little bit more light-hearted. It also seemed that the other girl was a bit nervous or something and Lutana hoped that she could make her feel a bit more comfortable somehow.
"So are you new to Jahaur?" She asked as she selected a few leaves and started to place them in the cup, a small wooden stick with rounded ends helping her to mix the various pieces. "Does bitter work for you since you don't enjoy something too sweet?" Lutana was thinking carefully about what type of special tea she could make for the other hybrid, her silver gaze studying the other girl as she spoke. Honestly she enjoyed looking at Kahukura's eyes the most, the dark sclera making that wonderful green pop to keep catching Lutana's attention. Maybe this wouldn't be such a horrible date or practice session after all.

Kahukura took a little steadying breath before moving forward to settle down at the table. Her legs brushed the underside, lifting it briefly much to her embarrassment, but she quickly grabbed the table's edge to keep it from lifting too much. "Sorry...sorry.." She shifted her legs to the side.
"Uh, yeah." If Rawiri were here she'd be pinching Kura's arm and urging her to say more but it was just so...This wasn't her element at all."I used to live near Zinris and now...I don't." Well, it was a step, right? "Have you always lived here?" She looked the part of every other shifter in the area so Kura might have believed it if not for her hair. It was nearly as dark as the hue of her skin and that was odd. Shifters didn't normally have hair that dark, did they?
"Bitter is fine."

"No worries." Lutana chuckled as the table settled back on the floor. "One of my papas has the same problem. Believe it or not but I have a bit of that Aishan blood too though it's not as noticeable. Would it be easier if grabbed some cushions instead?" It wouldn't be her first time kneeling around a table on sitting cushions instead of chairs and honestly she wished that she had thought about the option beforehand. The last thing she wanted to do was make a guest feel uncomfortable, date or not!
"I see." Lutana offered a small smile before shaking her head. "My family is pretty nomadic so we've been all over the place. I settled here for a bit to study teas and healing under my mentor." They were so close to Oba as well that she could already imagine her papas' concern but it all worked out in the end. Lutana enjoyed Jahaur and could even dare consider sneaking across the border now that she was older. There were quite a variety of teas there that she would love to try out and their own supply here was running low...hmm. "This much be a lot different from Zinris though. I haven't personally been to Yael yet but I hear the country there can be quite rocky...we have lots of trees mostly here." She commented with a small smile.
"Since you enjoy bitter then perhaps I can try some puerh tea." Mused Lutana as she scooped out the dark tendrils of dried leaves into the kettle. "You're not feeling ill or anything? Maybe just something to calm your nerves if you're nervous for some reason?" She teased lightly as she studied her companion, her dark lips curving upwards slightly more towards the left in a mischievous grin. "I was surprised to see that my mentor invited someone with Elarian blood here, but I am glad for the company. Were you expecting a shifter hybrid for this date?"

"You do?" If she did it was harder to tell, especially since Kahukura wasn't as experienced with spotting differences in hybrids and earthlings outside of Yael. In hindsight the question may have come across as rude, but she intended it with only the most cautious of curiosity. Was that why they'd been set up with each other? Because of their Aishan blood?
"Ah, no, I'm fine. This is okay." This wasn't the first time she'd sat with her legs to the side and wouldn't likely be her last. So long as she tucked one leg it was pretty comfortable and gave Kura enough space to crouch so she wasn't too stiff backed. "So do you sell tea and healing separately or do you heal through the tea? Like poultices and elixirs?" The thought made her look at the cups with a more skeptical eye, almost as if she were waiting to drink muck like what her papa might make when she was ill.
"Yael is like....Jauhar but if the dark were mists instead. You can hear sounds but you cannot see them and sometimes the ground has split into caverns overnight. If you aren't careful you'll disappear." She gave a little half smile, "I prefer it to the desert's heat, but Jauhar has been nice."
Puerh tea? She'd never heard of it, but Lutana knew her work so Kahukura left her to it. "Ah, uhm, sure. That sounds like a good idea..." Maybe it would help calm her some? She was subconsciously fiddling with the strapping at the edge of her top almost as if her fingers just couldn't be left alone.
"I wasn't expecting a date at all." Kahukura murmured. "Since coming to the mainland I've tried to stay to the wilds as much as possible. Some towns don't mind me and others have not been kind."

Lutana grinned at the question. "Like I said it's not as noticeable." She teased as she raised a finger to tap at the area around her eyes. "That's not makeup, it's a trait from the Aishan bloodline." She had noticed other hybrids who had darker areas around certain areas of their body that matched where pure Aishans had green or pink. Lutana enjoyed it though since it seemed to darken her expression and added greatly to her mysterious appeal that sold to customers wanting their fortunes told. Other than that she wasn't greatly taller than earthlings though save for maybe a couple of inches and for the most part she blended in with the local population of shifters.
"If you're certain. I don't mind either way as long as we can sit close together." Cushions or chairs didn't matter to her as long as the guest was comfortable and Lutana could enjoy their company. Another chuckle left her at the sudden question and the hybrid tilted her head as if pondering how to answer, her lips curved upwards in amusement as she tapped a finger against them. "If I told you everything in our first meeting wouldn't that reduce the chance to meet again? I would prefer if you kept some questions so that curiosity could bring you back again. I suppose though you could consider the varieties of tea which can be helpful in many ways...depending on the client. I promise you though that this is no medical tea today, just something nice to enjoy during our chat together." Now that they were both settling in for the date the girl found herself relaxing more and wanting to play around a bit. If some teasing could get her cute reactions then why not? Her mentor told her to not be completely formal all the time since it wasn't always what the situation required and Lutana was trying her best to accommodate Kahukura.
Her gaze lit up at the description of Yael. "That sounds almost poetic and most definitely intriguing. I would love to know what the underground holds. There's surely many mysteries to discover." Lutana prepared the tea as she spoke, her fingers nimble as she finished shifting the remaining herbs so that they could finish brewing within the steaming teapot. "A surprise date? Well I hope that you aren't too terribly disappointed with the surprise." Lutana found herself glancing up to study the other hybrid, a gentle expression crossing her features at the thought of the other girl's hardships. "Hopefully you'll find more good than ill in the future. This place can be one of the kindest places if you'd allow it." The exact meaning of that could be left to Kahukura but for now Lutana turned her focus back to the tea, her gaze only lingering for a moment more before she reached over to pick up the teapot. "It should be ready now, but be careful it will be hot." Her words were soft as she leaned over, her movements graceful from weeks of practice, and she kept her gaze down even though her body was poised directly in front of Kahukura as she poured a cup of tea for the girl. Lutana only glanced up when the tea had filled Kahukura's cup, her body still so close before she finally pulled away again to sit properly in her seat. "I hope you enjoy the tea." She mentioned innocently as she poured herself a cup, her fingers wrapping around the warm mug as she waited for the guest to try the drink first.

Kahukura's eyes widened. She was right; it wasn't as noticeable as what her own markings were, but it was lovely, never the less. A natural cosmetic and one that added allure to Lutana's already mysterious aesthetic.
"Ah- well - I suppose so." And just like that, Kura's voice had softened and she was looking everything but towards her date. "You would...want a second meeting? I just...w-why would you? With me?" She wasn't sociable like Rawiri, or charming like Rawiri, or confident or smart...Kahukura was a mess. Lutana seemed to have so much going for her that the thought of her wanting to do this again just seemed absurd.
"There are a number of caves that contain crystals and creatures that only exist underground. I've also heard of sisters - um, Elarian's - using them to transport goods instead of the main roads, but if you don't know the way you can die." Catching herself, Kahukura coughed. "Not that you would just by going down but you might. If you weren't careful. Maybe."
A kind place? Well, she was already being shown more than enough of that here. In truth she hadn't planned on staying in Jauhar for very long, but now...she might have to change her plans. Watching Lutana move was almost like seeing a bird in flight or a keldari, undulating through the leaves toward the sun. It was so captivating that she didn't even notice she was that close until Lutana was nearly upon Kahukura and her skin warmed.
"Thank you," With her voice barely above a murmur, Kura lifted her cup and took a sip. It's warmth held subtle hints of flavor that she both couldn't describe and didn't feel the need to. For the moment it was all she needed and the experience brought a smile to her face. "It's good. Really good."

Lutana's lips curved into a small smile. "Why not? Would you be open to a second meeting? I think you've been pleasant company and it would be nice to explore some of the local area together." Her mentor obviously thought she stayed inside too long with the teas and tomes of healing so it would surely ease the older shifter's mind without harming Lutana any. She didn't mind going on outings, she simply hadn't found anyone interesting or adorable enough to keep her attention for long.
It would be a lie to say that her gaze didn't gleam at the mention of death. "That sounds intriguing. I would love to take that risk and explore one day." How else could someone be so close to the ground that took so many once they departed this world? Lutana's gaze brightened as she imagined it. "I'm sure the crystals sparkling in the darkness will be lovely." Who was she to fear death when it was such a fascinating idea? If anything Kahukura's warning made her desire to visit the caverns grow.
"I'm glad you enjoy it. Lutana's teasing expression returned as she studied Kahukura. "Maybe you can return the favor and treat me to something next time."

Kahukura was at a loss. "You really..." When she looked up, her odd gaze found Lutana's silver one and a timid smile pulled through. "Actually...yeah, that does sound nice. I'd like to see what's around, especially if it's in nature and...less village." While this was only the second alkidike hybrid she'd met, Lutana was also the second mixed with shifter blood and she was pleasantly surprised to find her just as sweet as Morain had been. Far less flirty, though, and with far more of a mystical feel. It was as strange as it was alluring and maybe she would know where to find some local treasures.
Or find a hole to bury her in. Her eyes were a little too bright when Kahukura started speaking of death, but maybe she was just imaging it?
"I don't have much; just my pack and I, but I might have an idea." Pondering on it, Kahukura took another sip and mulled it over in her mind. If Lutana liked the macabre, then maybe... "Whenever you're ready for another date let me know and I'll take you someplace I think you would enjoy."

Ah, that was a really cute smile. Lutana found her own expression brightening at the sight of it. "It sounds like a date then." She chimed as she poured herself a cup of tea and added in some herbs of her own, the sweet fragrance of the leaves floating about the room.
"Sounds mysterious." Lutana teased as she glanced over Kahukura. What could the other girl be hiding within her pack that would entice her? Still, Lutana found herself relaxing and giving a nod. "We can spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying tea and I can walk you back to wherever you're staying. Perhaps tomorrow afternoon we could meet up again unless you're lingering in the area for longer? I'll have the day after completely to myself since I won't have tea lessons." Most of her mornings were tea lessons with the occasional afternoon spent with clients as she continued learning the arts from her mentor. This afternoon had been supposedly for a client before Lutana learned it was actually a date but honestly she didn't mind. This had turned into quite the pleasant event and she was thankful for it.

"Aren't you still technically working? Not that I would mind the escort, but I wouldn't want to get you in trouble." Another sip of her tea and Kura was still surprised by the flavor. For something so bitter it had a strong body that made the experience enjoyable. She had half a mind to ask about the tea leaves, but she also knew that Lutana would likely give her another cryptic answer.
"Sounds good. I'll be free." Whatever odd jobs she was hoping to drum up could be handled in the morning which would give Kura just enough time to get cleaned up. It would...be something different, for sure, and maybe something to write to her sister about. While she wasn't looking for anything particularly romantic to come out of this just the knowledge she was making a friend was something special.
"Ah, uhm, here. I want you to have this." Setting her tea cup down, Kahukura turned to dig through her satchel and when she found something special she pulled it up to give it to Lutana. "It's a keldari fang. If you p***k yourself with it under a new moon you'll have good luck all year round."

Lutana gave Kahukura a sly smile. "Attending to you is technically my work." She expressed, raising the cup to take a sip of her own tea. Her fingers rubbed along the groves of ceramic as she placed the cup back down against the table, the swirling gray design against the onyx stone always making her think of a stormy night.
Her gaze widened with surprise at the gift. "Truly?" She couldn't be more delighted with the gift! Lutana found herself clutching the delicate fang in her hands. "I'll treasure it. Thank you." She smiled towards Kahukura before rising from her chair, her skirts swishing with the movement. "Let me prepare you a bag of tea leaves to go while you finish your drink." As she walked past the other hybrid, Lutana paused and then smoothly bent to place a light kiss against Kahukura's cheek. "Truly it's lovely, thank you again." She whispered before disappearing to go and prepare the tea leaves.
