March was the beginning of the dreaded 'puppy and kitten season' at the vet clinic. True, it wouldn't get into full swing until April or May, but the pregnant moms were already starting to roll in with early litters. Not that Anna hated it, per say, she just always felt bad for the older cats and dogs in the shelter half of the building. Everyone wanted puppies or kittens, and never the older dogs or cats. There wasn't much time to feel remorse though as the clinic began to ramp up hours and pet visits. In addition to the potential new mom pets, many other pets needed updated vaccines, deworming, and the like.
Needless to say, it was busy, and not even the front desk girls had time to go do supplies runs. The techs took turns doing the runs for them, though even then it was dicey.
Anna decided to use her extended lunch - it was hell, but working twelve hour shifts did have some perks - to restock on dry and wet food for the shelter. These were the few times she ever felt no guilt when the bill ran into the thousands of dollars; she wasn't paying for it, and it was going for a good cause. Ah corporate credit cards.
Today she wheeled the already overloaded cart of bulk dog food down the aisle at PetsMart, trying to debate how much cat litter she could shove on the bottom tray before the whole thing collapsed. Did she need help? Probably. Was she going to ask for it? No. Would she accept it even if it was offered? Absolutely not. She was a Super Senshi in her nightlife for the love of Freyja! If she couldn't handle two hundred pounds of dog food and cat litter, what was she even doing?

March was a more quiet month at the start for Alexander. The strange tide of legal proceedings for his firm usually meant the beginning of April would be when the fraud of expensive Valentine trips of executives paid for by companies would be brought to court, so he had time. A sucker for animals, but not brave enough to adopt one yet, he couldn't resist a a trip to the nearby PetsMart to look at the shelter cats and dogs. Not even a guilty pleasure, even if his heart did ache when he walked away without a pet. One day, Alex, one day. Passing through the aisles on the way out he stepped to the side briefly, stepping around a woman with an overladen cart and an analytic face about something on the shelves. Big man and increasingly cramped corporate chain aisles didn't mix with big purchases, but he made do; his head bowing gently to the woman to apologize for the inconvenience of blocking her view for the moment. He made it two steps passed her before he stopped. Her cart was way too full, what more was she going to fit in there? His head turned slightly, following her eyeline. Cat litter. She must have a lot of animals. He had the time. He turned around fully and stepped back to the aisle shelving, reaching down to the cat litter. "Pardon me," he said to the woman, nodding gently in apology. His hand wrapped around the handles of two tubs of cat litter, pulling them out to his side. His other hand moving in to repeat the same, before he stood back up with the four tubs in hand. "Can I carry anything else for you?" He asked to the woman, arching a brow in question as he did.

Anna had to grip the cart to prevent herself from spinning and decking the man who'd spooked her. She was aware of the man when he turned down the aisle, but most people just left her be. She was six three, all lean muscle, and half her head was shaved. Not to mention the half sleeve poking out from under her scrubs sleeve. She absolutely looked like she could handle herself, and if that didn't scare people off, the snarl to her mouth and throat usually did. But, she'd already been repremanded by the store manager for scaring off customers, so she breathed through her nose and turned to the man who'd spoken.
Her mouth went dry.
He was big. A solid wall of muscle, wide shoulders with biceps that bulged with the weight of four eco sized tubs of litter. He was also a good three inches taller than she was - a feat in and of itself - with a lean jaw and very lovely purple eyes. His dark skin tone made his eyes pop, and and boy did they.
Anna swallowed the saliva that pooled in her mouth as her mind instantly shot into the gutter and she cleared her throat.
"Ah, uh. Excuse... you? I," she stumbled over her words, mentally smacking herself. Gods she wanted to snarl at him for just imposing his damn presence and help on her, but by the Gods all she wanted to do was order him about and see just what he could do with all that muscle.
Gods damn him. Damn his muscles, damn his kind eyes, damn his helpfulness!
But she did need two more buckets...
"... I need two more buckets of litter," she said gruffly, focusing on the task she was here to accomplish and not the massive man in close proximity to her.

Alex watched the woman with a gentle but curious expression, his fixed on her face so that he wouldn't allow them to travel up and down her form. Tall. Tattooed. Half-shaved head. Those arms telling of a fit and lean body beneath those scrubs. Stop it, Alex, she's a stranger and that's rude. She spoke, his ears twitched inadvertently. His eyes followed the response, looking back to the tubs of litter and then to her cart. Yeah, she definitely wasn't fitting more of those. Come on, impress the pretty girl he thought to himself, as he nodded to her. " Sure." His hands came together, transferring the other two buckets into the one hand. The right sleeve and chest of his button down shirt swelling under the additional strain as his muscles bulged to compensate for the weight. His now free hand grabbed two more handles of the litter buckets, pulling them off the shelf and to his side. His hands briefly came together again to distribute the weight, letting each hand take three, his muscles matching in bulge across the shirt now, some buttons looking strained to stay attached. He grunted a touch, smiling down to her. " You must have a lot of cats, I bet that's nice." He didn't make any start to move, just waiting patiently as he stood ready to follow her lead, keeping his eyes fixed on her face with as gentle a smile as he could muster under the weight and cumbersome buckets. No one else was walking through that aisle right now, that was for sure.
