Back when he'd been in Destiny City, Briar had generally spent Sunday afternoons down at the pool and it was something that he had kept up even after moving to Ireland to study–
Well at least when he had the time he did, as his classes generally kept him busy.
He was in his second year of his studies now and his workload felt like it had increased significantly, although Briar didn't really mind so much as he was enjoying his degree course - but it didn't stop him from missing his friends back in Destiny City, even though he would never admit to as much out loud–
At least not in so many words.
Briar carefully pushed his class notes to the side and carefully set his glasses down on top of them for a moment as he massaged the bridge of his nose for a moment.
Actually he'd been planning to go down to the local pool today, but a deadline coming up early in the coming week had kind of put paid to that as he instead holed himself away at the desk in the corner of his student dorm with some cookies that he had picked up from a nearby shop and some coffee–
But he'd gotten as much done as he could for the day and was a little too awake from the coffee to really want to call it a night.
Retrieving his glasses, he instead found himself looking up the time zone differences between Dublin and Destiny City, as he remembered the international phone card he had picked up a couple of days back.
Five hours and it wasn't long gone half ten, so maybe Peter was around and not out on patrol or something.
Maybe.
Grabbing the phone card and his mobile, Briar dialled the local access number and put in the pin before dialling Peter's phone number on impulse.Guine I think we talked about Briar trying to call Peter, so hope this works as a start. Lmk if I need to tweak anything

At first Peter didn’t hear his phone ring. Even though it had been weeks since the funeral, he still felt easily distracted, and it was only thanks to Haven that he could really bring himself to do much.
So when he noticed it was ringing, and noticed it was from Briar, Peter immediately thought something must have been wrong. It would have been long distance, after all.
“Hey, is everything okay?” he answered, although maybe he sounded a bit more concerned than he usually would have. It was probably silly to think that it was anything more than just calling to say hello, but after the mess they’d had to deal with, Peter could never be too careful.
He was at Haven’s apartment now, because he couldn’t bring himself to go to his parent’s house, or to either of his brother’s houses. He slept most of the day and went out at night, looking for any clue he could find about what happened to Ganymede. Even without his dad there, he wanted to at least help look for his sister-in-law.

It had taken a while for Peter to pick up to the point where Briar had began to think that perhaps his friend was out after all - but he had decided to stay on the line anyway and leave a quick message once the voicemail kicked in–
Only the voicemail hadn't kicked in as Peter had picked up instead.
"Hey Peter" he said, as he settled down in the chair by the desk and stretched his legs out so that they were facing outwards and into the room "Yes I'm good" adding "I just thought that I'd ring for once."
Because whilst Briar had had good intentions, he knew he was pretty crappy when it came to remembering to keep in contact and his emails were sporadic at best.
"Although I should probably be the one who should be asking you if everything's okay" he added, because it wasn't as if he'd been powering up–
And he couldn't even if he'd wanted to, because he'd left his henshin pen behind hidden before he'd left to return to Ireland after the Christmas break, thinking it for the best.
Besides Peter was the one who was in Destiny City not him and so far Dublin hadn't been anywhere near as weird.Guine Sorry this took me so long. I'll get the Val and Athene one tagged as soon as I can

It was at least a relief to hear that Briar was okay. Trying to keep in contact when they had a literal ocean between them was difficult, but it was better than nothing. Peter knew he had been pretty difficult to reach during the summers while he was interning, but that wouldn’t start up again for a few more months.
“Not really,” he answered before he could stop himself. And then he sighed because he knew it was only fair to explain. He at least tried to make himself comfortable on the couch so he could avoid pacing restlessly.
“You know that stuff I told you about my parents being involved? Well… it didn’t work out for dad. He, uh… I mean, he was gone most of the time anyway, so it’s not like this is anything new. But mom’s upset, and Paris is missing, and there’s a lot more I’d like to say but don’t know if I should over the phone,” he added, because he had no idea what the Negaverse had control of. Which meant it made talking about things difficult. But Briar would at least know Peter meant powered when he said his parents were involved. They’d talked about that before.
Oh, and he supposed it wasn’t fair to misdirect his anger at his dad, but it was all he could do from losing himself to grief. Briar would have known that his dad had been away for his job in the Navy, and only retired in the last few years. Still, Peter was now twenty-one and didn’t spend nearly as much time with his father as he would have liked. litian No worries! Sorry this took me a while too!
