Obsidian slowly made her way through Aquila's hallways. She had her Astrology Club acceptance letter tucked safely away in pocket and was currently trying to remember how she had found the lab in the first place. Taking a turn down a hall, she realized she recognized vaguely. Encouraged, she quickened her pace and made another turn. There it was. Nervously she approached the Astrology Lab. She pushed open the classroom door and found herself alone. What was she doing? She had no clue other than the instructions she had found in her letter. It had said come in during any free time...

Slowly she approached one station and sat down. She brought up the login screen and typed in her name and password:

Covet opened her bright green eyes and blinked a few times. She found herself standing next to a sign saying "Welcome to Crescent City". Reading the sign with childlike wonder, she put a white and teal tiger striped finger to the corner of her mouth.

Ra was the second person to enter the astrology lab that day. Not for the first time since he joined the astrology club. To be honest between detention and his other clubs he hadn't had much chance to enjoy the game. Not to mention that the room creeped him out a little.

Sighing he pushed open the door. He was getting another medication induced headache, playing on a computer was the last thing he should be doing. Yet somehow this game helped. He usually left the room feeling much more relaxed.

Noticing a strange girl at one of the other stations he sat down and logged in.

Mecca stood in an alleyway watching the newcomer, his grey/blue eyes narrowed. Sighing he inspected his nails and contemplated going over to introduce himself.
Yes, he decided he'd go and play with this new person. Throwing the ratlike creature he had been tormenting to one side he stepped out into the light.
Fresh blood was always good fun.

Pyper yawned and stretched as she made her way down the lengthy corridor. Tired, she wanted to relax and spend some time in DreamLand. When she entered the lab she noticed an unfamilar face sitting at one of the machines. Ra at the other. Curious, she chose a seat between them and logged in.

Enoch wavered into view just inside Crescent City. She gazed around, absent-mindedly brushing her long silver bangs out of her eyes. "Hmm." She spotted two others close by and so she made her way closer. "Hello?"

Today was a busier day than usual for the Astrology Club. Though it was the greatest source of her stress, she loved the Shutensa Project. Watching the students file in, it pleased her to see some of the newest recruits finally straggling in and logging into the system. Signing onto the primarly console at the front, Dr. Kamikawa decided it was time to begin her new research and also keep an eye out. She couldn't afford any more complications, especially with the Aquila-mods in town. Taking out her check list, she opened the logs for Obsidian, Pyper, and Rashne. Also seeing a 4th student entering the room, she pulled up the last for Scarlett.

[ Scarlett ]

Rushing from the dance rooms, Scarlett was still a bit flush from her new workout. Needing to unwind and relax, she popped into the Astrology Lab. Searching for an open console, she was surprised to see Obsidian, Pyper, and Rashne among the students. Equally surprising, Dr. Kamikawa was present as well. Hopping on the empty chair opposite Pyper, Scarlett logged on.

Taking a break from working on the bar, Matador waltzed down the street. His boots heavy on the pavement, he had forgotten what actual manual labor was like. Long ruby hair flowed down his back, and his leather jacket helped fight off the chill. Spotting Enoch ahead of him, Matador casually strode up behind her.

"There's in a chill in the wind," He whispered softly. "Mind keeping me warm?"

Covet turned when a tall, silvered hair girl spoke to her. Another child-sized shu had also approached her from behind. Flashing a dazzling smile at them both, she said, "Hello, I'm Covet. Nice to meet you." She offered her tiny hand to the older girl, her blinking eyes flickering between the two. Another with long ruby red hair approached and whispered something to the girl she was introducing herself to. Her free hand flew up to her face as she replaced her thumb at the corner of her mouth.

Mecca ignored the greeting and watched them all stopping a safe distance away, a sneer on his face. The one his age was particularly annoying. Holding hands. How cute. Giving a snort of disgust he surveyed the other two, the adults. It was always best to know your prey before you approached it.

The male had pretty hair. Mecca felt the urge to go over and grab it. It looked like it would be nice and silky. He stopped himself however, the man was much bigger than he was and although he occasionally made rash decisions Mecca was not stupid.

His eyes fell on the pale skinned woman, now she looked like an easier target. Deciding to observe a little more he folded his arms, flexed his wings and watched.

Enoch purred as a familiar voice found its way to her ears. She slowly peeked over her shoulder, stepping up along side Matador as he passed by. "Well hello there," she grinned, blushing slightly. She moved slightly closer at the invitation; threading her arms around his as if he were an escort. "Not a problem Mist-uh."((*cough* mister *cough*))

She turned her attention back to the smaller two. "So you're new faces. The name's Enoch. Nice to meet." She nodded as she took Covet's hand; giving it a firm shake.

Chiyo sipped her tea, casually observing like a spectator at an opera balcony. Her screen displayed images of the students and their matching Shutensa. She found the combinations utterly fascinating. Muffling her laughter, she continued taking notes. Scanning the vitals screens all students were listed as normal. What she wouldn't give to be able to be 'tangible' in the system.

"And who is this darling angel?" Matador said bending down to take the little purple haired Shu's hand in his own. Lifting it to his lips, he brushed it gently.

"The name's Matador, my dear," he said, rolling his Rs softly. "The pleasure's all mine."

Rising back up, he let go. Enoch's arm locked in his would have made any normal man crumple into a pile at her feet. Giving her hand a light squeeze, he gave her a wink.

"What bring's everyone out on this windy day?" Matador said, shifting positions and putting his other hand on his hip. "My cafe's nearby if you all would care to head indoors for some nourishment... and maybe some dessert 'afterwards'." The last part he whispered into Enoch's ear playfully.

Grabbing a hair-tie Chii flipped it up into a messy topknot as she pushed the building door open. She'd meant to come by earlier in the week but school has just been too hectic.

Opening up the door to the Astrology Lab she was surprised, and happy, to see Ra, Pyper, and Scarlett there. There were 2 others in the room though that she wasn't familiar with. Shrugging to herself she slid into an empty seat in the corner. The last thing she wanted was to be watched as she logged in for the first time...

Like a flame through a photo is how Devaki arrived in Crescent City. She softly chuckled to herself -it was her favourite way to arrive- as she checked out the area around her. Raising and eyebrow she glanced from side to side. On her right were a bunch of buildings....her left...a bunch of buildings, but straight ahead was a group of people. Two big ones, two little ones.

To watch or greet... Dev wasn't exactly allergic to people, but then she didn't generally seek them out either. They seemed friendly enough though....and the colour red was always a good thing. Flicking a few stray strands of her extremely long, silky black hair off her shoulder, and giving her blood red wings a good stretch she took a nimble -barefoot, henna covered- step towards the strangers. Her face was blank.

Covet giggled sweetly at Matador's antics. "I'm Covet," she reintroduced herself. "It's very nice to meet you both," she smiled brightly at them. Her green gaze fell fully on the other child.

"Are you not going to introduce yourself?" she asked him. His lurking made her a bit nervous. She took a small step closer to Enoch and Matador, her smile faltering a bit. At Matador's invitation, she wormed her small hand into the one he had resting on his hip.

"I'd like to go," she smiled up at him, surpressing a shiver in the brutally chilled wind.

Deeming the coast clear Mecca stepped a little closer. He was almost put off by the arrival of yet another person. This one looked...well, she looked sick. Her skin a pallid green. Whatever she had he hoped it wasn't catching. Heh, no he hoped he didn't catch it. The others didn't matter so much.
She did have extraordinary hair though, long like a silky black river. AND it was well within his reach.

Placing an angelic smile on his face he stepped forwards.
"Of course." He said smoothly. His intonation and pronunciation sounding nothing like that of a child. "How rude of me. My name is Mecca." He looked up at the red haired shu. "And norishment sounds....good." He concluded unfolding his arms and flexing his deep red wings.

Ear flicking slightly as Matador whispered into it, she couldn't help but smile. "Hey, sounds like we've come to an agreement then. Lead the way then Sir Matador."

Turning she noticed another shu enter the scene. "Eh? So many people out and about today. Who might you be?" she questioned, eyeing the raven-haired one.

Feeling Covet's hand snake into his, he could tell that it was time to rescue the princess. Without a word to her, Matador scooped Covet up with one arm, seating her comfortably on his arm. The henna-tattooed vision before him was also stunning. What was a man to do?

"You're welcome to join us, Miss," Matador said, flashing a charismatic smile. "My shop's just down the street, and there's plenty of room for everyone."

Stepping forward, Matador pointed at 'Veronica' and lead the group down the street.

Veronica (Description)
On the corner of the local shopping area, a new drinking establishment appeared to be under construction. Matador's inspiration finally spoke to him, suggesting that a speakeasy would be the most convenient way to make money and meet the ladies, of course.

His new baby's name was 'Veronica'. She was elegant, fashionable, and downright sensual in every way. Stained glass shards were embedded in the supple, wooden floors chinks. The tiny, glittering lights mimicked the night sky, but illuminated the floor giving the impression of walking on rainbows. The table surfaces were worn, but polished with care. Clear glass mossaics in pale colors offset the vivid floors while soft cushioning lined the boothes and chairs.

Running along one side of the room was the bar, backlit by the windows. During the daytime, it overlooked the park, but at night, it only added to the ambiance of the bar. The counter area has room for all, but behind it it's a one-man show. Ruby red hair and amethyst eyes are the trademark features of Veronica's patron and bartender, Matador.

His long, purple and white apron looks grossly mismatched with Matador's knee-high black boots and leather jacket. His long red hair is braided on such evenings, to avoid bar flair complications. At the front of the room, a stage is set awaiting it's next big star to make their debut.

User ImageAs she approached the group she passively watched as each of it's members noticed her. The little red one made a face, no doubt because of her skin tone. It seemed to cause the same reaction from most people. She shrugged it off, and turned to the white skinned one as she addressed her. Hands dangling to her sides she just stared at the pale one for a few seconds, taking in her features -particularly her eyes- without it seeming obvious, then replied.

"My name is Devaki." Her voice was lower than the average female's, but not in a masculine way. It was strong, unwavering...precise. She was about to ask the same of the pale one, when the other big shu addressed her. She raised an eyebrow at him, then nodded. She was going to have to keep an eye on this one, she could just tell. Spying the smaller purple haired shu in his arms as she walked past, she smiled. Such pretty markings.

Covet wrapped one small arm around Matador's neck, giggling happily in her new perch. She peered down at Mecca's well spoken manner, giving him a small smile. She didn't need to be afraid of him. He was a perfect gentleman. Perhaps he was just shy around big groups.

When Matador turned to lead the way to his shop, she admired Devaki's coloring and markings. She stood out against she paleness of Enoch, Matador, and herself.

"You're pretty," she said to her. "I'm Covet," she said, reaching her free hand out to her over Matador's shoulder.

"The name's Enoch. Greetings Devaki."

She had to agree with Covet, the shu's markings were indeed very pretty; intricate, detailed. She followed along as the group made their way towards 'Veronica'.

"This looks like a pretty nice place you've got here Matador," Enoh began. She couldn't wait to see the inside.

Upon arrival, she figured she'd get the door, just to be polite. "Allow me." She grabbed for the handle and leaned agaisnt the door, then realizing it might just be locked. After all, the owner was outside with them. Nobody to watch the store was there?

He raised an interested brow at Enoch, who was obstructing the door. Reaching into his jacket pocket, he pulled out a key ring, packed with keys of all shapes, colors, and sizes. One would wonder why he had so many keys and how he was able to hide something so bulky so well.

"Now let's see," Matador said flicking, through the keys. "Apartment, old house, safety deposit box, my heart, hand.... washing room. Ah, here we are."

Matador laughed airly and unlocked the door. Shuffling Enoch out of the way playfully and setting Covet on the gound, Matador flicked his hair off his shoulders and straightened his jacket. Pushing the door open with a sweeping bow, he bid is first customers welcome.

"Welome to Cafe Veronica," Matador said nobly with a wink. "I'm Matador, host, manager, bartender, and your go-to guy. Enjoy your stay."

User ImageDevaki's cheeks flushed, rather uncharacteristically at Covets words. No one had ever said she was pretty. Extending a delicate hand foward she grabbed Covet's hand and shook it. "Thank you." She replied, softly.

Waiting for the red haired adult to open the door, Devaki glanced behind her to the tiny red shu. She loved his hair. It was like the colour of blood...in fact his entire body was. It was mesmerizing. Not sure what to make of him yet though, she decided to watch him, and the other red-haired one for a little longer.

The door having finally been opened, she strode forward and entered the cafe. Once inside she couldn't help the shiver that ran through her. Buildings, cities...they weren't for her and no matter how hard she tried she just couldn't get used to them. Give her a rock or tree to sit in anyday. Taking a seat near Enoch she crossed her hands, placed them on her lap, waiting and watching.

Covet stood next to Matador as he fumbled with his keys and then unlocked the door. She followed Devaki into the cafe and hopped up onto the stool nearest her. She perched herself on the edge of the stool and kicked her feet in the air as she looked around. It was beautiful on the inside. Her eyes followed the path of the jeweled stainglass on the floor to the stage. She felt an odd excitement as she admired it. She was about to hop down and go explore it, but decided she wanted something warm to drink and needed to wait at least for Matador and Mecca to walk in the door.

Mecca followed the strange group into the colourful bar giving Matador a wicked grin as he passed him.
His eyes flicked around the place. It was nice if you liked colourful things. Mecca didn't so much. Material objects bored him. They didn't move, they didn't make interesting noises when you broke them.

Once his grey eyes had got tired of the glass and trimmings of the bar he returned them to the long black hair of the green woman so shiney and so very, very long. He took a seat, his wings folded and his head bowed in contemplation.
"Why Veronica?" He asked smoothly.

Enoch was busy admiring the beautiful tiles as the others spoke; slowly drawing her attention away from the marvel of a floor. She chuckled as she watched Covet's enthusiasm.

Quietly, she reached for a menu as Mecca posed his question. Looking over to the other shu seated next to her, she slid over more menus. "Anything catch your eye? I think cocoa'd be nice with the weather ya know? I'll have that if you please," she said, flashing Matador a smile. "And that was a very nice introduction by the way. Been practicing?" whee

"Veronica's something very special to me. Maybe when you're a little older, I'll tell you what it means," Matador said with a sly smile. "I can't be giving away all my secrets. You just got here."

Walking behind the bar, Matador quickly braided his hair securing it with a strip of back leather at the tip. Slipping on his apron, Matador set about making Enoch's hot cocoa. One could tell by his confident stance that charisma and smooth talk were completely natural to him. It wasn't his fault he was suave and attractive. Some people are just cursed.

"If you need anything, just shout my name," Matador said, flipping ceramic cups and saucers with ease and grace. With a wink to the women in the group, Matador smiled broadly, "That goes double for you two."

"Ooo, I want hot cocoa too," Covet said spinning around on her stool and watching Matador's bar tending show. She gave her feathered wings a small ruffle and tucked them closely against her back. Her tail twitched idly.

"Are we your first customers?" she asked Matador, leaning her elbows on the bar.

midnight_medea
Mecca sneered at matador's patronizing treatment of him. Heh, when he was a little older Matador wouldn't have the chance to tell him anything. He'd be whimpering it at his feet. The thought brought an evil little smile to the red shu's face.

Cocoa? He wasn't sure what that was but if they were all ordering it, he knew he didn't want to. "Water please." He said simply watching the display. He felt sorry for the women, having to put up with comments from such an idiot. Not that the white skinned one seemed to mind much. Fools.

kaleidoscopegrl
[ Matador ]

"Here you go, ladies. Two hottie chocolates,"Setting the cups of cocoa down on the bar, Matador had drawn pictures artfully with the cream and cocoa powder. Enoch's cup had a swirled heart with small bat wings, and Covet's had a cute little striped kitten face. Taking out an ice pick, Matador rolled up his sleeves. "One Tall Drink of Water coming up, Big Man."

Having people enjoying the atmosphere and engaging in conversation made Matador smile. Granted, two of them were underaged children, but he wasn't serving them alcohol, so it was not an issue. Walking over to the ice block, Matador hacked and stabbed a jagged ice rock from the block. Scooping it carefully into the tall glass, Matador slowly poured the water. Adding a slice of lemon on a little plastic sword and a bendy straw, Matador placed the glass in front of Mecca, his ruby fringe shading his violet eyes.

"You are my first customers, Covet," Matador said with a brilliant smile. "I don't actually open until tonight, so consider this a practice run. Drinks are on me."

User ImageDevaki cringed on the inside as Matador winked at her. His voice oozing like a purulent wound. She didn't care what the other shu thought of it but such behaviour was altogether irritating to her. Getting to her feet she looked at Matador. "That's highly unnecessary. It is neither noble nor appreciated. You don't know the first thing about me yet you choose to flirt shamelessly. Frankly I find it disgusting, and a testiment to your character, or rather your lack thereof. I'm not a piece of meat."

Finished, she turned to Covet, Enoch, and the tiny red shu. "I beg your pardon but I must be going, there are matters that need my attention. I hope to see you again. Good day." And just as she had come, she had gone.

Covet blinked sadly at Devaki's sudden outburst and departure. She had really liked her. She turned and stared down into her lovely hot cocoa, and her smile returned. Devaki wasn't mad at her, so maybe they would get to spend more time together another day.

"Thank you Matador. I really like 'Veronica'," she said, picking up the mug with both hands and turning so she could see everyone.

"What do you like to do for fun?" she asked Mecca over the edge of her mug. She flicked her tail again and took a small sip.

midnight_medea

Mecca drank some of his water fuming slightly. 'Big man' indeed, he really couldn't wait till he was older. This Matador guy was at the top of his torture list. The outburst from the green woman amused him greatly. It would take a lot to make her cry. What fun.
Standing up he turned to the other child.
"Pain." He said simply. "I'm sorry." He said to the bartender. "I'm afraid I have to leave too. Thank you for your hospitality."

And with that he was gone.

kaleidoscopegrl

"Nobody has a sense of humor anymore," Matador scowled, rolling his eyes as Devaki took it upon herself to throw a childish tantrum. "When did the world stop smiling?"

Women like that only got one thing in life: poor slave boys willing to put up with their diva fits and endless dissatisfaction with everything. No skin off his nose, glad he found out her personality before he put and actual effort forward. Hopefully, she would come back and visit when she learned how to handle her bitter anger more effectively. Her and Mecca would be a match made in hell, but at least they'd have each other.

"How's the cocoa, Covet? I hope it's not to hot for you," Matador said, leaning on the bar, resting his chin in his hand. "Don't grow up too fast, little girl, or you'll be fighting the boys off before you know it."

::Covet::

Covet paused mid-sip at Mecca's peculiar answer. Pain? He enjoyed pain for fun? She scowled into her cocoa. She turned to face Matador and took her first real sip of cocoa. She savored the creamy sweetness, rolling it around on her tongue and smiling as she swallowed. She leaned on the bar, mirroring Matador's stance and smiled brightly at him.

"No, it's not too hot. It's perfect," she replied. "Would I have to fight you off?" she asked, an impish grin painted across her face.

"That's what I like, a woman not afraid to ask the hard hitting questions," Matador said, throwing his head back in laughter. "I don't know, a sassy girl like you just might end up breaking my heart."

He threw a playful wink at Covet. At least she understood that he was harmless and not a cross-dressing, hooker pervert who looked at every woman with hormonal beer goggles. He tapped her lightly on the nose and gave her a rich, genuine smile.

"What things do you like, Covet?"

ceedabear
::Covet::
Covet wrinkled her nose up cutely when he tapped it gently. "I hope not," she said about breaking his heart. She really like Matador. She didn't want to hurt him in any way. She pondered a moment on what she liked. She liked lots of things.

"I like colors and dancing and singing and music and...." she thought hard for a moment, "friends... lots and lots of friends." She took another sip of her cocoa. "Oh... and I love your hot cocoa," she nodded, smiling. She resumed kicking her feet in the air, her tail swinging happily off the edge of the stool behind her. She nearly lost her balance in her happiness, but with a quick stretch of her wings, her balance was restored. Fluffing them with a couple of flutters, she tucked them back against her body.

"What do you like Matador?" she asked him.

"I like many things. Dancing in the rain, staring at the clouds, smart women, and having my hair washed," Matador said, wrinkling his nose, too. "What I like best is seeing a sunny smile."

Taking the empty glasses from the bar, and placed them in the sink to wash them. He took great pride in his work, so he gingerly washed and dried them.

"The next big question, little lady," Matador said, leaning on the bar. "Would you like a parfait or a sandwich?"

midnight_medea
It didn't take long for Mecca to get bored. He tried looking for some more little animals to play with but they all seemed to be hiding. That was the problem with Crescent city being so clean finding virmin was a rare joy.
Shrugging to himself Mecca wandered back to the bar. At least there were living things in there. So he couldn't play with them yet, but they were more interesting than doing nothing all day.

He pushed the door open to find that most people had gone. Only the red haired man and the other kid were still there.
"Can I have some more water please?" Mecca asked walking back towards the bar. "With a lemon, like last time?"

::Covet::

Covet cocked her head to the side, screwing up her face in hard thought. She bit her lower lip and turned her large green eyes on Matador.

"Both?" she asked cutely. She batted her eyelashes at him for good measure. Hearing a familiar cool child's voice speaking at her elbow, her attention was drawn to Mecca. She studied him for a few moments. He must have been joking with his last answer before he had left. Still, a small shiver ruffled her feathers when she looked into his stoney blue-grey gaze.

"What brings you back?" she asked, mustering a bright smile for him. There was no way he had been serious, she thought.

kaleidoscopegrl
[ Matador ]

"Coming right up, Mecca," Matador said taking the ice pick up again. "I'm making sandwiches and parfaits, are y ou hungry at all?"

Before starting up on the food preparation, Matador floated over to the ice block again. Chiseling at the ice again, Matador carved up several chunks and dropped them in a tall red glass. Slicing up a lemon, he speared it with another small plastic sword and dropped it in. Setting the glass in front of Mecca, Matador nodded before walking over to the kitchen area.

"What do you fancy?" Matador said, looking in the kitchen. "I make a mean hot meatball sandwich."

midnight_medea
Mecca tooka seat at the bar and looked at Matador suspiciously.
"What's a parfait?" He asked watching with interest as Matador chiseled the ice.
At the mention of a meatball sandwich Mecca wrinkled his nose. "I don't eat meat." He said simply. Animals were good fun to toy with, but to eat them. Never. "Does a parfait have meat? If not can I have one of those please?"

With a fake smile he turned to face Covet.
"I got bored." He shrugged and thought about her earlier question. "What do you do for fun?"

ceedabear
::Covet::

"I'd love a meatball sandwich," Covet beamed at Matador as he walked off to the kitchen. She crossed her arms in front of her on the bar. Turning her head to face Mecca, she considered his expression for a moment before answering him.

"I do lots of things for fun," she smiled at him. "But my most favorite thing is singing." She paused for a moment then decided to clear her mind, "You weren't serious earlier, were you? How can pain be fun?"

kaleidoscopegrl
[ Matador ]

"Hold that thought," Matador said to Mecca. "Let me get her sandwich started. I think I might be able to make something you'd like."

Matador took the requests and headed into the back. Workinng quickly he put together a solid, strong meatball sandwich for Covet. It dripped with mozarella cheese, rich, chunky tomato sauce, and crusty toasted bread. Looking over the swinging door half-door, Matador got an idea. Pulling some of his finest feta cheese, veggies, and his homemade vingarette from the fridge, Matador made his vegetarian's delight. Adding a side helping of fresh hummas and toasted chapati, he nodded in satisfaction. Popping back through, Matador set the plates in front of their respective patrons.

"A parfait is a layered dessert with ice cream, chocolate, cake, fruit, and lots of toppings," Matador said, pouring himself a glass of water. "It'll go perfectly after that sandwich."

midnight_medea
Mecca dipped his finger in the hummas and touched it on the edge of his tongue. It tasted interesting. He wasn't used to eating a whole lot. In fact he didn't really rate eating as one of his top activities.
He did like bread though. Picking up the chapati he took a bite.
"I don't want a parfait." He said taking another bite of the chapati. It sounded far too fussy and colourful for his liking. Too many flavours made him feel sick.

He turned to Covet. "There are many ways pain can be fun." He said slyly picking at the vegetables in the sandwich. He glanced at her pretty wings and raised his eyebrows. "Want me to show you?"

Covet breathed in the heavenly smell of her sandwich. With a big smile she picked up the messy meal in her little hands. With another deep breath of its aroma, she opened her mouth as wide as it would go and took a rather large bite. "Mmm," she managed around her mouthful. She set her sandwich back down on the plate and chewed diligently until she was able to swallow. Her eyes slid back to Mecca as he spoke to her.

"I just don't see how it can be fun," she replied doubtfully, a frown creasing her brow.

kaleidoscopegrl
[ Matador ]

"Suit yourself, Man. Covet, I'll make that parfait if you have room after that sandwich there," Matador said, noshing on a taco salad jam packed with salsa, refried beans, and crisp vegetables. "What are you two chatting about anyway."

Matador set his salad on the bar and leaned forward, trying to participate in the children's conversation. Running his slender fingers through this fringe, he pushed the ruby mane from his eyes. His eyes passing between Mecca and Covet with interest. Though the small boy seemed grateful for a meal, Matador couldn't help but think he was up to no good.

midnight_medea
Mecca watched them eat their horribly messy sandwiches with disgust, he was happy with bread. Simple and it filled him up. Finishing he listened to Covet. What she said sounded like a yes. A grin spread across his face and he wondered if she really knew what he was talking about. He shrugged inwardly. A yes was a yes.

Mecca smiled sweetly at Matador. The kind of smile as sweet as a poison covered candy.
"Nothing that would interest you." He said smoothly as he reached his hand behind Covet's back and took hold of a feather. Giving it a short sharp yank he pulled it out. and smiled triumphantly as he waited for the scream.

"Ow!" Covet yelped, jumping at the sudden sharp pain shooting down her wing and into her back. She lost her balance on the small stool and fell backwards onto the floor, crushing her wings and bumping her head on the floor.

She couldn't stop the tears that filled her eyes. She took a deep shuddering breath and broke into full fledged sobs as she rolled off of her damaged and hurt wings to a sitting position. She put one hand to the back of her purple head and the other to her eyes.

[ Matador ]

Matador's eyes narrowed angrily as he watched Mecca pull a feather from Covet's back. Planting his hands on the bar, he hurdled the bar landing between Mecca and Covet but not before she landed on the floor. Snatching Mecca by the hair and base of his wing hinges, Matador held him at arm's length away. Marching to the door, he kicked it open with his boot and tossed Mecca into the street.

"Until you can act civilised," Matador growled. "I don't ever want to see you near Covet, this shop, or me. You disgust me, you little slime ball."

Without waiting for Mecca to respond, Matador locked the door. Rushing back to Covet's side, Matador was seething. The crimson Shu's ability to spit on his hospitality by assaulting another guest was inconceivable. Scooping her up into his arms, he carried her over to a plush couch. Stroking her hair gently, he sang to her softly hoping to calm her down. His eyes still focused on the door, Matador strode over to the ice box and put a handful of ice in a towel.

"Stay here as long as you like, Covet," Matador said, positioning Covet's hand to hold the icepack. "If you don't have a place of your own, there are extra rooms upstairs."

Mecca clutched the feather in his hand as Matador picked him up.
"See, told you." He grinned. Pain shot down his back and his scalp from having his hair grabbed. This was the most fun he'd had in ages.

Mecca went flying through the air and landed on the dusty street with a thud, his arm landing awkwardly and sending a nice painful stab up to his shoulder. Rolling over he smirked at the red haired idiot as he slammed the door shut.

"Because I'd want to come to that hell hole again." He snorted, standing up and brushing himself off. Sticking the feather in his hair he rubbed his arm. "Some people have no sense of humour." He sighed strolling off in search of more games to play.

::Covet::

Covet clutched the icepack to the back of her head. Matador's singing had calmed her greatly. Her tears had stopped, but she couldn't stop the hiccuping. Reaching with her free hand she inspected her ruffled feathers and arranged them back to their proper place. Timidly she flexed them and they only ached mildly. She rubbed the last of the tears off of her face and looked up at Matador, "I don't see how that was fun." She then frowned down at the colorful floor.

"I can stay? I'd like that Matty," she said softly. She looked back up at Matador with a soft, soggy expression, "Can I finish my sandwich now?"

"I may be a big flirt and an over the top cheeseball, but I never say things I don't mean, kiddo," Matador said, picking up Covet's sandwich and carrying it to the booth where she sat. "You can have you pick of any of the vacant rooms."

Leaning over the bar, he pouring two glasses of water. Putting them on a tray with his half-eaten taco salad, Matador rejoined Covet at the table. Sneaking a stick match between his fingers, he snapped and lit the single candle in the center of the table. The orange hue made his ruby hair shine like fire.

"Let's enjoy the rest of our meal," Matador said smiling broadly. "Then we'll talk business."

[ Chiyo ]

Her eyes were exhausted from gazing at the multi screened console. Chiyo watched at students logged out and returned to the dorms. Licking her lips, she killed off the last bit of instant ramen she feasted on. So much information, and interesting data read outs indeed.

"I can't wait to see these ones log-in again," Chiyo said inwardly, nodding to the students as she watched them leave one by one. "I better take some of this home. It's going to be a late night tonight."

Watching the last few students straggle out, Chiyo set the class room console main power to standby. Packing up her things, she flicked the light switches off, and stepped out locking the door behind her. Very curious developments indeed, and the games were only just beginning
