Tama couldn’t say he hadn’t been warned. His cat paws padded down the pavement as fast as four limbs could take him. He was being pursued. And by what still seemed to surprise him. Well, not surprise, exactly. He had been warned, after all. He just hadn’t heeded any of those warnings. “Stop, you stupid beast!” He snarled, equal parts reason and threat. “Don’t you see we’re on the same side of this god-forsaken war?”But he knew it was no use. The beast — the youma — couldn’t understand him. Or chose not to. Or both. Tama had been told his kind was not welcome among the youma, even if both served Metallia. “This is a god-damn poor way to run a military, if you ask me.”What he wouldn’t give for hands right now, but his magic was still in flux and there was nothing he could do as the beast put its large dog-like jaws around his small cat-like body. ☆

As a Senshi, Kamacite had long since accepted that youma would not like him, just as they would not like any Senshi. And they weren't friendly with Mauvians, either.
Which was why when he heard the snarling cries of the cat, he couldn't just stand around.
He hadn't been powered up until that moment. A quick grab for his pen changed the awkward and mousey looking civilian into the Eternal Senshi he was. And it was a good thing too, because teleporting made things much easier to get from place to place.
Without hesitation, Kamacite shoved his own body into the side of the youma, and scooped the cat up into the swaths of fabric of his robes.
"Close your eyes, please," he said to the cat, his voice soft despite the flare of panic.

Tama allowed himself to be scooped up into the man’s arms and closed his eyes as instructed, not that they really had opened much since the youma had decided to use the cat as a chew toy. “Thank you.” He mewed softly. Who was this man? His robes were elegant and quite to Tama’s liking as he nestled deeper inside the sleeves. He hadn’t realized it until now, but he was bleeding quite badly and there was a growing red stain on the man’s robes from a bite mark wound on the Mauvian’s side. He felt faint and nestled ever deeper into the fabric. ☆

Kamacite quickly folded the fabrics of his robes over the cat as the youma reoriented itself. And then he held out his free hand to send a blast of light at the creature, watching as it howled from the disorientation and scurried away.
He didn’t stay there. It was obvious that the cat was injured and in need of help.
The next place Kamacite teleported to was Negaspace. The infirmary, in particular. There was no point in staying around the city when the cat was bleeding as much as it was, although Kamacite tried not to let his panic get too worked up as he carefully unfolded the fabric from around the feline to get a better look.
“We’re safe now,” he promised, voice still quiet and trying to keep the panic out of it. He didn’t set the cat down, but went about collecting bandages from the medical supply cabinet as he looked around for any medics that were around.
As long as it wasn’t that General Bloodstone guy… he was the worst.
“You’re bleeding a lot. I… Don’t really know how to treat cats, but… I can try to help,” he offered as he held him in his arms still.

For a moment, Tama thought he had blacked out. Perhaps he had or perhaps it was just the teleportation. He was far too injured and far too inexperienced in the Negaverse to tell the difference. All he knew for sure was that the man was gentle with him. Almost too gentle. And he felt he didn’t deserve it. For a second, a memory flashed before his vision, allowed to slip through because of the pain. Another who had once helped him in a similar way. But then the memory was gone. “Why are you helping me?”☆

The question caught Kamacite off guard. Why was he helping the Mauvian? Wasn’t that answer obvious?
“We look after each other,” he said as he went about gathering a blanket so he could place it on a bed where it would be easier to try and tend to the cat’s wounds. Oh, but it was so different from the first aid he knew how to do. Kamacite nervously chewed on his lip, but had a towel ready to try and stop some of the bleeding once he was able to set the cat down.
“Why wouldn’t I help you?” Kamacite asked in return as he tried making the cat as comfortable as possible. He even pulled off the outer layer of his robes so that he only had his sleeveless bodice underneath and nothing in the way.
All along his arms were scars from various encounters with the enemy, and sometimes even their own. Mostly youma, but still. He didn’t look like he was too upset about anyone seeing his scars, and he didn’t make a big deal about them. Those scars were the easiest to explain.

Tama tried to give him an answer that made sense. But his own inner logic had stopped making sense three weeks ago. “You don’t know me. And I don’t know you.”What else could he say? That he didn’t deserve it. That he had quite possibly gotten a boy killed once. That he was far too weak to be of any use to the Negaverse, or anyone, for that matter. He looked at the scars on the man’s arms. They distracted him from his own wounds. Anything to distract him from his own folly of getting too close to a youma despite warnings. “How did you get those scars?”☆

Kamacite glanced down at the scars on his arms. “Youma, mostly,” he said quietly, not because he was worried about someone overhearing, but because he was just a quiet person.
“They don’t really like Senshi. Things are easier now that I can teleport. They’re from people who have attacked me, too. Senshi. Knights. It’s easier to use my arms to protect myself.”
Better than anywhere more vital, at least.
“They don’t seem to like Mauvians, either,” Kamacite sighed as he worked on cleaning up the blood, making sure appropriate pressure was being placed on the wounds, although he should really see someone more suited for taking care of a cat. Did the Negaverse have vets? Kamacite was worried he was out of his league.
“Do you know how pain medicine will work for you? Or… I’m sorry, I haven’t taken care of a Mauvian before. Do you have someone you’re bonded to? Maybe they’ll know more…” The last thing he wanted was for the poor cat to suffer longer due to his lack of understanding.

“Clearly, they do not.” Tama winced just thinking about it. But he had been curious. What were youma? What were they made of? How did they think? At least, he had thought he might understand Faustite better. Maybe there was just no understanding Faustite. “Pain medication should work well enough.” He had taken some in the before times. When he had been attacked by Faustite, as in the time before. Someone had given them to him. Someone had carried him. Someone had helped him like now. Someone he couldn’t remember. “I am not bonded to anyone. I don’t quite even know anyone well here. Not yet anyway.”For a moment, Tama debated on how much to reveal to Kamacite. He looked down to the wound in his side. He’d revealed plenty already. What was a bit more? “I haven’t been in the Negaverse for very long though I awoke many years ago. This was the first time I’ve left Negaspace since then. I thought maybe if I came back here I may remember more of what I have forgotten. But I have not?”He purred restlessly. “It’s like I don’t belong up here on Earth. Not anymore.”☆

Kamacite nodded to the cat and went about finding the medicine needed and a cup for water. Oh, should he put it in a saucer? Would that be easier? It didn’t seem like there were any available, so he just made sure to fill the water up as much as he could in the cup to give Tama enough room to drink from it.
“Bonded…?” he frowned a little, not entirely sure what that meant, but assumed it had to be a Mauvian thing.
And hearing that he’d only been in the Negaverse for a short amount of time must have meant…
“You belong,” Kamacite said quietly as he gently brushed his fingers over the cat’s head, hoping a little comfort would help. “Being in the Negaverse… it takes some getting used to. There are good people here. There are also… terrifying people. And I don’t just mean physically.” Just because someone was half youma didn’t make them monsters.
“I’m sorry you’ve lost your memories, though. That must be very difficult.” Probably as difficult as losing teammates. And yet, Kamacite couldn’t imagine wanting to get rid of their memories, no matter how sad he was to think about them.

Tama lapped at the water slowly. “I wish I felt like… I was useful, at least.” Belonging was a strong word. He knew he had felt it before. Back then. When he was with… Who had it been again? He knew, too, that his memories would stabilize. What was before and what was after. Yet would the pain of loss completely ever leave? “You have shown me there are good people here. Perhaps, maybe, I can make new memories, here, with these people.”Tama didn’t know if he was getting overly sentimental or if it was the pain killers kicking in, but he let Kamacite brush his fingers over his head, letting out a weak but contented purr. ☆

It was difficult for Kamacite to place when he felt like he was useful. He was useful as a tool to his General, but that wasn’t a reflection of his own feelings. It wasn’t until he’d met the right people that he felt like his contributions were worth anything.
“Just be yourself,” Kamacite suggested, which was probably easier said than done. He knew that better than most. “It took me a while to feel like I was useful, too. I didn’t know how to fight, but someone was willing to spend time teaching me. They’re gone now but… I still hold onto how I felt when they were around. Maybe you can hold onto those good feelings you might remember, too.”
He knew it wasn’t going to be easy. But he was willing to help if possible. For now, he just wanted to make sure the Mauvian was able to rest and recover.
“My name is Kamacite. Thank you for trusting me enough to help you.”

“Kamacite.” He said, committing it to memory. “My name is Tama.” The cat was not quite sure just being himself would be enough. But he knew it was better to try that than to try and be anything else. He was a Mauvian, after all. What else could he be? He wondered who the someone Kamacite remembered was. Was he like his own someone? Kamacite had clearly experienced a loss, but could remember the good, as well. Tama hoped he could, too, but something dark inside doubted it. “Thank you for your kindness. If you ever need anything, call me.”Perhaps, one day, he could repay the senshi for rescuing him. ☆

While Kamacite didn’t smile, his expression softened more and he gently rubbed his fingers over the cat’s fur.
“Tama…” he repeated with a small nod of acknowledgement. “For now just rest. I’ll watch over you,” he promised. After all, the Mauvian had some recovering to do, and he wouldn’t get better if Kamacite kept him up.
Now that the wounds had been at least cleaned and patched as best as he could, Kamacite gently lifted the cat so he could hold him in the bunches of fabric of his robes. It was important that Tama was comfortable, so Kamacite sat down in one of the nearby chairs to keep him warm and let him rest.

Tama gave a soft purr as he was lifted into the senshi’s robes. They were so soft and voluminous. He was still a bit sad he had stained them read. He began to thank the man again. “Thanks, Kama—”But his words traveled off as he was already fast asleep. ☆
