It was a rare night for rain in Sulburi. The sudden storms had created a deluge earlier in the afternoon which put the cities defense on it's front lines. Sariza had spent the better part of the afternoon in the midst of several hundred bodies, constantly on edge out of fear of being stabbed in the back by one of the very citizens she was trying to help. Still, she'd been 'guarded' then. A special task force that had followed her ever since this mess began had joined her unit without telling a soul so it was all so very natural. And now...now she was enacting a special plan to lure out the biggest predator of them all.

Under the pretense of taking a simple guard shift, Sariza patrolled the darkening streets atop Uovu with two of her unit some distance behind her. Three soldiers, three janarim, and six eyes between them. To avoid suspicion she insisted that her personal body guards stay back and that she should take her own soldiers. Since they had no idea there were assasins gunning for Sariza they weren't as sharp as the others, but Sariza felt confident in her choice. After all, even if she was the obvious 'bait', she wasn't alone in this.

Somewhere out there Faisal was making his own plans and soon enough they would have their mark.

Faisal absolutely despised having to wait in the shadows. Even though he had picked up some lessons from Valek, the young nobleman was not one to prefer stabbing his opponent in the back. It was easier when he could just meet someone out on the battlefield, dueling for honor and what not. Still, their opponents did not want to practice more honorable means and so the threat to their family had forced Faisal to play this different type of game. It did not dissuade his disdain for it, something he often grumbled about while practicing with Valek but at the same time the man had been missing some form of excitement while dealing with the never ending paperwork the last few years. Faisal had missed out on the joys of adventuring, on the risks of the army and the like because of his role as heir and now here he was dealing with a different type of danger.

Regardless of his personal feelings, Faisal knew that he would endure because he wanted to keep his family safe. Even if it meant he had to play a bit dirty as well the hybrid was determined to settle things. It was not the best feeling watching his wife with a few others from the shadows, but she was the best bait that they had while trying to find this assassin. Faisal just hoped that the chaos of the rain would provide them enough cover to get away with springing the trap whenever the attackers finally appeared. If they appeared...Faisal could only hope so even though the very thought of putting Sariza in danger made his stomach twist with worry.

Sariza would have been lying if she said she wasn't nervous. Every little sound had her attention, but most of it was the quips tossed back and forth by her subordinates. They were keeping an active eye on the city, but that didn't stop them from taking the occasional jab at one another.

"Okay, okay, so you're saying that if she wasn't single you would have gone home with her?"

"I'm just saying that I've seen better looking women crawl out from the crypt."

"Oh, like you can afford to be that pic-"

Before the statement could even be finished the guardsman jaw was blown off thanks to an explosive bolt of lightning that popped through the air. All at once the alleyway lit up purple before disappearing all together.

The guardsman herself was trying her best to scream, but all that came out was bloody gurgles. Her mouth was snarling and snapping at anything it thought was a threat while the other soldier took arms. Before Sariza could even make her way closer the woman had already choked on her own blood and was falling to the cobbles around them.

"Move!" If they couldn't be sure what direction the attacks were coming from the least they could do was make it harder for their assailant! Another concentrated bolt of lightning struck the ground near Uovu but thankfully Sariza pulled the reigns quick enough to avoid a similar fate.

They knew that going into this was dangerous but even Faisal was not expecting one of Sariza's guards to be eliminated so quickly. Truly a beast. He acknowledged though his heart was racing, blood rushing through his ears as he forced himself to keep quiet to not reveal his position along the upper walkway. Valek had told him that the assassin was notorious for striking first and asking questions later, but he hadn't mentioned magic! That brought a whole new danger to this fight that put Faisal on edge. If only he had inherited magic from his mother's side somehow!

Make due with what you have.

He didn't want to lose anyone else but if they did not act now the rest of the group would be in danger. The assassin was playing a dirty game from the shadows but it was what Valek had warned them about. The five guards with Faisal started to dart out in separate directions, each taking a high path to try and pick out the assassin from the shadows. The flash of lightning from the left along with another scream of agony got Faisal's attention and he finally moved into action. Grabbing the spiked bola tightly the hybrid made certain to approach from the far right, away from his man who was clutching his burned arm against his body. Faisal was waiting for the perfect moment to immobilize the assassin while he was distracted by the sudden appearance of others above and behind him. It would be hard for him to even try escaping, not with Sariza's men below and Faisal's men spread out in the upper buildings to intercept the assassin.

Zyn Yauthlo.

Their research had led to some disturbing information regarding the assassins' former marks, but being on the receiving end of a living legend was terrifying. Sariza held fast as Uovu took a hard right around a corner, very nearly knocking her from the saddle, and narrowly missed a dagger that would have pierced her leg. While there wasn't anymore lightning - for the moment, at least - there was still the very real threat of weaponry. They'd taken the risk knowing that, knowing just how small the streets of Sulburi really were, so she steeled her nerve and kept him going to the designated location.

She was supposed to 'panic' and lead a chase. In reality, the chase would bring them to an area that Faisal and his guard could access, even if she were riding all out on Uovu's back, to try and trap him.

"Why is a mage chasing us?!"

Sariza winced. The only one who hadn't a clue was probably in the most danger, but she couldn't say anything. All she could do was to toss back an "I have no idea!" and keep moving.

What she hadn't anticipated was the arrival of others. She'd always known Zyn to work solo so the noises from above caused her teeth to grind. "Marko, fire!"

"On it!"

Her subordinate lifted his arrow and fired three arrows in an arch, aiming for those closest to Faisal.

The darkness of evening clung to the city streets like a thick ooze. It was easy enough to hide the extra bodies until one of his men let out a warning cry. Faisal winced as he realized that their plans had apparently gotten a bit more complicated as one assassin quickly transformed into five more as the shadows around him condensed into actual earthlings. While they had been expecting to not see Zyn until after his attacks on Sariza, the most nerve wracking part of the plan, the fact that he had company was surprising. The man usually worked alone but it did make sense that he could have easily gathered a few more men, especially if the coin was good. Sariza was constantly working with her soldiers and always traveled in a unit since they arrived back at the city so it would be sensible to grab some other fighters to help separate the target from her posse. They probably had only been offered coin with no actual information given so they were useless to his group, something Faisal quickly decided as one tried to cut his throat and he ended up sacrificing his upper arm to cut their throat instead.

Wincing, Faisal held his upper arm for a moment before ripping his tunic and quickly tying the material around the gash. If he could just ignore the pain in his left arm then he could deal with stitching the cut later. "Taiso! To the left!" He called out to one of his own, a woman who had worked with his father when younger before joining his family's own personal guards. She was one of the few he could definitely trust and like Faisal had a few tricks up her sleeve to catch this assassin.

"Above!" Her voice rang out as another dropped from the rooftops. Faisal let out a curse but an arrow from another of his guard caught the assassin before he finished his attack. Their simple mission to catch someone was quickly becoming a bloodbath and Faisal felt his stomach knot, realizing that their favorable odds were quickly turning sour. This was turning from a trap into a fight for their lives and Faisal felt his blood boiling as he moved away from his men and chased after the direction of the lightning, determined to stop Zyn before he even any closer to Sariza. He would just have to trust his wife and her men to take care of things at the lower level while he captured their target.

So much was happening so quickly that Sariza worried their main target might have slipped away. It would have been easy in the chaos, and seeing as she hadn't gotten a good look at him to begin with she had no idea what she was even looking for!

Sariza could hear her husband, but due to the angle she couldn't see him. It was frustrating, but she had to trust he could hold his own while doing the same for herself. Marko's arrows were enough to keep any of Zyn's brood from getting too close, although that only spurned them to try distance attacks themselves. More than a few arrows came at them, bouncing off the janarim's thick hides and the Obans' shields.

A buzzing came from behind her. It started out small, just a faint fuzz that was accompanied by an odd scent, but one she'd smelled before. At all costs she had to keep Zyn's attention so that Faisal could do what needed to be done, but doing so came at such a high cost. By the time she turned around the sky had once again turned a bright white and she was barely able to avoid the strike once again.

This time it wasn't just a simple dodge, though. One of Zyn's group had made it to the ground level and knocked her off Uovu. She hit the ground at a roll and was instantly involved in a brawl.

The sudden heavy heat in the air, the very static of the lightning made Faisal's skin crawl. No, no, no. His gaze widened as he realized that lightning had gone straight into the middle of the fight. It appeared Zyn had no concern for his own companions and was rather focused on just killing Sariza. Faisal nearly dove towards the ground, his body tensing as he prepared to spring towards the mess of bodies where Sariza surely was. He had witnessed her fall and was more than willing to sacrifice the plan before Taiso pulled him back, her fingers clutching tightly at his sash.

No, no! She hadn't betrayed him, had she?! Faisal's gaze widened before the Matori woman shook her head at him."I'll help her. Focus on the task or this will happen again!" She chastised him before diving off of the upper path to slam her body into Sariza's attacker, knocking him to the side before roughly digging a dagger into his sternum. "I'll help." She managed, glancing over Sariza before standing and offering her a hand.

Faisal swallowed as he trusted his wife to Taiso. It would be foolish to lose sight of the mission now, not when allowing Zyn to escape would only put them in more danger for the future. Thankfully he moved quickly enough so that when another bolt of lightning started to erupt from the man's hands, Faisal could toss the bola forward to try and trip him up from the side.

Sariza rose up just enough to slam her forehead into her attackers. It was enough to keep his blade from slicing further into her neck than it already had, but not enough to get him off completely. She couldn't get enough leverage to fully push him off-

-until it was done for her.

"Taiso! Thank you!" Grasping the matorian's outstretched hand, Sariza pulled herself up and whistled for Uovu. When the janarim started to come closer to her she shook her head. "Guard Marko!" When said archer turned her way she pointed to the rooftops, "Give them coverage!" It wasn't the best vantage point, but if he could just keep the momentum then it would make attacking Faisal and their forces all the harder.

When that same smell assaulted Sariza's senses she dipped down to snatch up her spear as quickly as possible, more than ready to run for her life, but just as quickly as the light started it faded. Though, not before she could see where it came from. Zyn wasn't nearly as high now as he had been in the beginning and the light came from the second floor of an abandoned building. She couldn't hear the fumbling he'd done in his attempt to flee, his movements clearly inhibited by something, or the way he'd nearly fallen through the open window. All she could see was his magic.

Sariza quickly elbowed Taiso, motioned with her head and took off at a run. The front door itself was easy enough to bust through and while the steps were very nearly too damaged to take Sariza ran up them, bursting onto the second floor where the snake himself sat.

A gleam of something almost magical seemed to be embedded within the trap, the bola shimmering as they hit their target. Faisal's gaze narrowed and a curse left his lips. Valek. That b*****d must have known that the assassin was a mage and now Faisal was understanding why he had given him a specific set of bola to utilize for this mission. Was it more amusing to see the surprise on their faces or had he conveniently forgotten to mention the additional dangers the assassin brought with him?

Still, it appeared that the tools served their purpose as no more sparks of magic erupted from Zyn. Faisal brushed the dirt from his leathers, striding forward with purpose when the arrival of Sariza gave him pause. At first he had expected more assassins but now it appeared the capture of Zyn had made any of the remaining men clear the area. Faisal gave a thankful nod towards Taiso who lingered behind Sariza almost like a shadow, the Matori just giving a curt nod while wiping the blood off of her dagger on a spare cloth. She was not going to lower her guard here and neither should they, not even with the mage captured.

"Are you alright?" Faisal's voice was a murmur as he approached Sariza, joining her side before finally facing the man who had been trying to kill them. Now came the fun part of actually trying to get him to spill his secrets, a necessity in tracking down those who were truly behind all of these accidents.

Sariza never once lowered her spear. Whatever kind of containment they had on Zyn might fail at any moment and she didn't trust her reflexes in a closed space like this. "I'll heal." A few broken ribs, minor gashes and the wound to her neck; all in all it was a lot lighter than she'd imagined for an encounter like this. She'd gotten off lucky; her soldier not so much. "You?" She whispered back, taking in the sight of his arm.

"I don't know if I should be impressed or furious." Zyn broke the near silence around them and drew Sariza's attention to him once more. He was sweaty, clearly feeling the effects of using so many spells in such quick succession, but there was still a look to him that caused Sariza's blood to chill. "Who was your contact? Hmm? I want to thank them for their neat little trick." He motioned to the bola.

Zyn Yathulo was a lithe Oban who might have been able to blend in with normal society were it not for his eyes. A bright gold, brighter than the moon itself, with Matorian pupils.

"I'll take care of it later." Faisal replied as he recognized that Sariza had noticed his arm, the temporary wrap already a dark red from the blood that was slowly oozing from the rough gash. They had not time to take care of slight flesh wounds like this, not when their target was finally before them. Faisal's gaze narrowed as the man finally spoke and even though the golden gaze startled him the swordsman kept his calm.

"The more important question is who is your contact." Replied Faisal as he took a couple of steps closer, a sword held tightly in his right hand while his left stayed by his side thanks to his injury. "I understand you're one of the best assassins, but surely you didn't come cheap." Surely they could work out something together unless the man was intent upon finishing his current contract.

"And now that you've been compromised I doubt your employer would want you back." When Zyn shifted Sariza brought her spear up nearly toward his gut. If he so much as sighed she would impale him.

"The two of you aren't wrong." At first she'd worried about his cohorts coming to his aid, but after this long it was painfully obvious that whatever 'loyalty' Zyn had inspired in them was short lived. He was a solo blade and if he fell then he went down alone. "Still, whose to say I'll talk? I'm more than confident I could take down one of you before the other finishes me, but I think that would be enough." He clucked his tongue with a smirk. "Enough to make the nobility talk, eh?"

Sariza gripped her spear tighter and clenched her teeth. She'd never been much for interrogations. All she was good for was the fighting part of it and knowing that was more of a frustration than her lack of skills to begin with.

Faisal found whatever shred of patience he had falling away. "But it won't please the correct nobility if there's still remnants of the family." Quipped back Faisal, his gaze narrowed in anger as he leveled his sword towards the man's lower body. The tip of the sharp blade skimmed above the leathers, threatening to cut them and the flesh beneath. "Either way that's a lot of confident talk, especially considering you're the one bound and dangerously close to another's blade."

Faisal leveled his gaze towards the assassin. "I'm not one to fall upon violence for a solution, so I'm more than willing to talk to find a way for all of us to leave this place alive. Coin isn't an issue either." He added though he definitely would not trust the assassin fully. If anything even if they reached a compromise here Faisal would be keeping him locked away somewhere until everything had been resolved. Not that it would be the worst if the man was still getting paid and staying hidden until the other family was taken care of. Having Zyn roaming about would just raise more suspicions when it would be easier to just hide him away as a dead man.

"How are your sons, then? Well taken care of I'm sure."

Even though Sariza knew he would have known about the boys it didn't stop her gut from dropping. Without hesitation she dropped her spear and rammed it through his thigh hard enough that the blade became embedded in the floor underneath him. To his credit Zyn only cried out for a moment before composing himself as best he could.

"My husband isn't one for violence, but I am. " Sariza snarled.

"Of course," Zyn ground out through clenched teeth. "You weren't raised to be a lady, after all." He closed his eyes when she twisted the spear head inside of his thigh, but there was no way to hide the shivers that ran through the man's body.

She'd never wanted to hurt someone more than this man. It was as if all of her fears and frustrations with this entire affair were being channeled into the prone assassin before her.

"...I can give you a name, but it's likely fake."
