You don't have to lead the war.

Stay safe, if something is wrong, run...

Serenitatis had certainly manage to abide by the first of The Code's remarks. She was definitely not leading anything in her current condition and given she had no reputation, that wasn't likely to change any time soon. The second point though, well that one was going a little less well, considering that she had been in several instances where running should have been the preferred option and she had elected to doubledown instead.

In several of those occasions she had been very lucky and stronger beings than she had intervened to ensure that she hadn't been harmed. All right, so the truck didn't count as a being, but it had still afforded her succor when it had dusted the youma and sent it to oblivion.

This evening though, it remained to be seen if she was to be quite so lucky. She had taken some of the commentary of others to heart, though they had used it to warn her away from those regions until she was stronger, she now knew that the more questionable areas of the city were the most vulnerable. There were those in this city who preyed on the poverty stricken, who assaulted those who could barely stay coherent at the best of times, and as a consequence this was the place to hunt.

If a soul was to be stolen then it really wouldn't have surprised her if this was where it would happen. The city often liked to conveniently ignore the 'dregs' of society and one more 'dead homeless person' could be ignored and swept under the rug. While she could feel some nerves at entering a region that her own prejudices urged caution for, she had made a promise that she would protect them and even if they were a little scary... they didn't deserve to die (and more importantly, lose their soul).

She clung to her lantern fairly tightly as she meandered through the otherwise empty alleys. As of yet it seemed like the young woman hadn't found her charges, but then again, perhaps they knew to hide nowadays as well?

Only time would tell, but without a hint of that sickly pulse she had grown to associate with 'danger', she knew that for now at least, the part of the city she was currently stood in was safe. Or rather, it was as safe as this part of the city could be when soul eating monsters were taken out of the equation...

He'd felt the touch of something as he'd stood near the back door of the gay bar called Flyin' High. He'd felt it, stiffened, and kept on covertly draining the energy from the other people standing around smoking as Fafnir pretended to, the cigarette in his hand nursed for as long as he could make it last.

Here, his outfit had drawn less attention than it would have at other bars, but conversely, his looks had drawn far more. Fafnir had flirted, politely, with at least three other men, each hoping to get him to come dance inside. It had made for an interesting time of it... draining them had been, physically, easy, but fending off their advances had made it hard to concentrate. With his hard won ball of energy hidden against his side, and a large quota to fill, the power signature of someone lower ranked than he was had not been enough to chase him away.

And maybe he was feeling bold. Fafnir was getting awfully tired of running away so much, forcing him to rearrange his schedule to make up for lost time. Wasted time... he hated that with such a passion. He never felt like he had enough of it, to be okay with wasting any of it...

Only once the energy ball had grown large, and his cigarette quite short, did he finally beg off from the other drunk young men. Slipping away from there with promises to call and fake names left behind, he headed down the street only far enough to turn down an alley between two buildings, and then, out of curiosity... he turned towards the faint signature. All this time, he'd been feeling it moving out there, alone. Now Fafnir was curious, and just impulsive enough tonight to want to take a look.

He just had to find it somewhere in the warren of buildings and side streets.

Her ability to recognise the signature of another at a distance was not the best at this point in her career. It would certainly improve over time, she was likely to make sure of that if it became a problem for her. However, for now that lack of experience provided ample opportunity for Fafnir to move comfortably in to range. She could still be found meandering through the streets, her lantern raised in something akin to that of a gothic ghost, as she swept through the shadows.

She might have found it to be a rather neat visual from a distance, or she may have found herself inclined to believe in ghosts, but to Fafnir? Who knew. In the grand scheme of things he had likely seen enough to be harder to persuade of such 'fantastical' notions. Alas, drift and meander as she might, the young woman was not so successful as to locate any of the vulnerable. Either they really had managed to hide or for now they had simply moved spots to focus on a region that was more favourable to them.

Were they all migratory?

She was at risk of her mind wandering until she finally felt that pulse of something nearby and spun round in the direction she thought it might be. Her accuracy may well have left much to be desired, she'd made her best guess but she was still a little ways off. Thus she and her lantern were pointed in slightly the wrong direction as she spoke.

"I know you're here," she announced. "You won't find anyone, there's no one here but me, so you won't find any souls to steal this evening."

The page, as it turned out when he finally found her, was unfamiliar to him in more than just being a stranger. He'd learned the different planets they claimed to serve and how to recognize them, but this one? Watching her from the corner of a building, he couldn't find the tell-tale symbols they all seemed to have to make out their allegiance. How curious.

She spun towards him, and then past, calling out to her unseen watcher in a way that pulled a sardonic smile from him.

"I wasn't hunting souls tonight, but I might make an exception for a pretty little Page." He said as he stepped away from the building, his arms crossed loosely over his chest. No other signatures pinged his senses with that too-sweet feeling and it made him feel a little cocky. What could one page, alone, do to him? And she could prove to be entertaining.

"What are you doing out so late, Lovely Lady? Searching for those lost souls?"
