This time, Sylvite didn't have any kind of appointment. She'd been talking to a lot of senshi about stuff while she was trying to figure things out, which was gonna lead to bias, obviously. Maybe that was why she was hearing questions come out of her own mouth sometimes, like is the Negaverse bad?She needed other opinions, too, opinions from the Negaverse. She'd talked to Jet, who made her kind of nervous, so now it was time to talk to the person here who she probably trusted most, the person who she knew had the same kind of opinions on stuff as she did. She rapped on the frame of Axinite's door with her knuckles. Also, she kinda just wanted to talk to him. She hadn't seen him since that whole battle thing had sent her off worrying about her own stuff, but she hadn't heard from him much, either. She hoped he'd been okay, afterwards. "Hey, I brought you a present," she called out before she even got to saying hi.

Axinite glanced up from his desk, a bit surprised by the mention of a present. “I have fresh sugar cookies, but I don’t know if that counts as a present.” He hadn’t made them special for her, and he always had things to share with anyone who came to visit. He sat up at his desk, looking tired and worn but glad to see a friendly face. He had a modified tablet on his desk, much larger than the portable versions, and it seemed like he was in the middle of a report. It wasn’t important enough that he prioritized it over Sylvite, though; he pressed a button at the top left and right to shut down the holographic screen, leaving an empty space on his desk. He put his elbows on the desk and leaned forward a bit to greet her. “I haven’t seen you in a bit, I’d love to catch up. Come sit down. Would you like some tea?”

"Look, sugar cookies always count as a present," she said, and it was true. Maybe they weren't made specifically for her, but Sylvite had never been the type to care about stuff like that. They were gonna make her feel better, like, sugar always did. She just hoped her present made Axinite feel a little bit happier, too. "You're always doing nice things for people," she said, "So, y'know, I thought you deserved something, too." Like, the way that her team had thrown her that party. She wanted to pass on the good vibes to her boss, who didn't quite have a team to do nice things for him like that. Even if her thoughts were swirling right now, she did appreciate Axinite. She didn't want him to forget that. Stepping forwards to his desk, she nudged a tiny stuffed fox across its surface towards him. "It matches your hair," she said with a little smile. "And yeah, I guess I could have tea, as long as you're not gonna judge me for making it, like, half sugar." She slid into a chair and sat cross legged.

Axinite had been in the process of standing to make some tea when she made her gift known to him. Immediately, he paused and reached out for it. “You saw this and thought of me?” He laughed, softly at first, but ran his thumb fondly over the little thing before he set it close to the corner of his desk, nearest to him. “It’s perfect, Sylvite. I love it.” He wasn’t much for cute things, but he was grateful for the gift, and then went on to explain, “My first youma looked a lot like that. He was quite a bit bigger, though. I bet he would have loved you,” he said, only this time he had actually managed to get up and pour two cups of tea. He filled his cup up more than hers, specifically so she could have as much sugar as she liked without worrying about overfilling. “He used to like to stay in my office with me. Very protective.” Axinite took his seat again and passed her the cup, glancing at the little fox again. He smiled again, amused and endeared. “Back then I got out a lot more, though. I like this very much, Sylvite. Thank you.”

The giggle that was halfway out of Sylvite's mouth cut off when Axinite said that the plush reminded him of his old youma. His dead youma, probably. Sylvite wasn't stupid, and she'd been in Information for long enough to hear some rumors about Axinite's past. "I'm, uh, glad you like it," she said, although without the giggle that time. She wondered what it was like to lose something, or someone, and to be able to think of them and smile, to be happy if memories of them came up instead of sad. She wondered how long that took. It felt weird to ask about when she was dropping by to try to make Axinite feel appreciated. "What about the snake one?" she said instead. "I saw him when we went to get Feldspar. He seemed cool, even if people were making weird jokes about it. Can I meet him sometime?" She took the teacup in her hands and blew on the top of the tea, not risking actually drinking it yet.

“I’m sorry,” Axinite said quickly. “I didn’t mean to make things awkward. I do like it. It makes me smile.” It made him sad, too, in the way that missing someone important always did, but there was a hole in his heart that wouldn’t ever fill. There weren’t enough memories to make him whole again, but moments like this helped a little bit. “If you’d like to meet him, I’m more than happy to introduce you. The jokes were, yes, well.” He cleared his throat and sipped at his tea. It wasn’t hot enough that he couldn’t drink it. “He wasn’t upset by them, so there’s no harm. He’s really rather charming. Very loyal. Very warm, too. Not that that’s how you should choose your youma, of course, but I won’t lie to you, there are times when I’ve sought him out just to take advantage of his heat.” Although, he wondered if that was information he could share in the presence of the same ones making jokes, before. He sighed, at least a little exasperated, but still fond. “He spends a lot of time in the Rift, even now. I worry that I neglect him, but he seems happy enough to tend to himself. Every now and then he decides to visit my office. When he stretches out he takes up all this room, between here and the door. And when he’s feeling particularly petulant, when he makes himself bigger? It’s impossible to open the door. I can’t get up from the desk if he lays on me. Do you have a youma you’re fond of right now?”

"It's not awkward," said Sylvite, even though she wasn't totally sure if that was true. "You're allowed to talk about your old youma as long as it doesn't make you sad." She blew on her tea a couple more times before she finally risked taking a sip, and she was still pretty sure she burned her tongue. Then, she just stared at the mug again, thinking. She hated being sad, or seeing other people sad. She always did, she always had. Those feelings got pushed away, again and again, only sometimes it didn't work. Sometimes it just made your head feel like it was full of bees, for months, and it was only when you did let yourself feel a little bit sad that you felt better, afterwards. "Or, like, you can talk about stuff even if it is sad," she said. "I guess that's okay, too." Although she still wasn't at the point where she wanted to dwell on the sad stuff, so she added, "Anyway, now you're really making me wanna meet this snake. I'll hug him, I don't care if it means I can't get up for awhile." She really liked those beanbag plushies that you could put in the microwave, so it would probably be even better if she could hang out with an actual creature that was warm and heavy. "My youma's called Swirls, she glows and stuff," said Sylvite, almost proud despite all the other feelings that were still in the back of her head. "I'm trying to teach her to scout but she gets kinda distracted sometimes."

Axinite laughed softly at this. “She sounds lovely. I’d like to meet her sometime, too. Perhaps I’ll have to invite you the next time I take a walk through the city, we can bring our youma. He likes to explore. No matter how many times I walk through the city, I always find something else interesting. Maybe not very exciting, but new to me. It makes me wonder how many things are actually hidden out there. Metallia must have found everything important, but,” he shrugged. “I think the little pieces are interesting, too. The fragments that got left behind. When I was younger, I dreamed of being a famous explorer for a time. I was very small, and I didn’t realize that ‘treasure hunter and explorer’ wasn’t exactly a practical career choice. All that training on the monkey bars, for naught.” He sighed, but didn’t seem particularly sad about it. A distant memory, something nostalgic and far away. He was still smiling. “I bet you give very good hugs, Sylvite. You’re very comforting to be around. I appreciate that you’ve come to visit. It’s nice to have someone checking on me. I haven’t gotten to talk about my youma in a while. It does make me a little sad, but I have a lot of fond memories, too. So it’s nice, I think.”

"I mean, if you only care about stuff that's important in general, you're gonna miss out on a lot," said Sylvite. "It's all about the stuff that's important to you." That was kinda what Swirls was like, honestly. There were people who probably would've said that she wasn't that great of a youma. She wasn't big enough to fight that well, she didn't talk in a way that was easy to understand, and she even had issues with remembering what orders to follow sometimes. She was still Sylvite's favorite, out of all the different youma that she'd met. "So, yeah," she said, "We should go out. We should see if we can find any really cool graffiti or something." Sylvite realized at that point that she hadn't actually asked any of the questions that she'd come in here to ask, about if the Negaverse was bad. She was finding that she didn't want to, though. She didn't wanna ruin this moment and make it all awkward again. Maybe later. Yeah. Instead, hearing Axinite say that she might be good at hugs, she stood up. She walked around the corner of his desk and she threw her arms around the General-King.

The position wasn’t immediately comfortable, partly because Axinite’s position didn’t give him any good ground to return the hug. He was surprised, at first, and maybe a bit flustered, but in the first few seconds he shifted just slightly so he could return it. He didn’t get up, he didn’t risk breaking the hug. He just appreciated it. Maybe it was obvious that he didn’t go around getting a lot of hugs, but it really didn’t take him long to relax into it. He patted Sylvite’s back appreciatively a few seconds later but didn’t break it. “I like being right.” It was little more than a whisper, but he sounded content. “I want you to know that you’re welcome to visit my office whenever you like. For any reason. Just in case I haven’t said it before.”

For a second there, when Axinite just kinda stayed awkwardly still, Sylvite wondered if it was against the rules to hug a General-King or something. Only, then he hugged her back, and it turned out that he was a pretty good hugger, too. She stayed there for a few seconds but not for too long, 'cause if would definitely be weird to full on start cuddling. She was smiling again when she pulled away, though. "Yeah," she said, and nodded. "I should probably get back to work. I just wanted to say hi, but like, I'll be back, to hang out, and meet your youma and stuff." Everything else might have been falling apart, but she managed to say that with something close to her usual cheer. As she backed out towards the door with a wave, she even thought she meant it.
