Having a plan to meet up in the park was a good thing, because it meant that Starlight got to practice with someone closer to his skill level. Not that he minded always trying things out with Whisler! It was just nice to have a little room to test things out himself. He wanted to show improvement, but sometimes it felt like he wasn’t getting better fast enough, and–yeah, he really wanted to make Whisler proud.
He didn’t want him to think that it was a mistake he’d gotten to be a Squire.
He’d been looking forward to meeting with Tristan, even if he had felt a little awkward telling Nick he was going out to meet a friend. Of course he’d asked questions, and Caius had been a bit dodgy about answering them–just out of habit. Nick had been patient, and it had taken him a minute until he finally came clean and told him he was going to go power up and patrol with a friend in the park, and he’d check in to make sure Nick knew he was okay.
He felt weird, being honest about it, but he was settling in. Sort of. Old habits died hard.
He was at the park first, but he felt an energy signature approaching right on time, and he brightened when he saw Tristan coming up. “Hey!” he greeted, and waved. “You made it.

Tristan nodded. “I made it! I met another senshi and used my magic on her, and I’m excited to try it out again, you’re sure about this? I mean, it’s not violent or anything, and you won’t get hurt, it just makes you trust what I say! Have you figured out what your powers do?”
She was excited, pleased and eager to see her young friend.
“I hope that you’ve been well! Have you run into any other youma? Or been in any fights lately? What have you been up to?”
Obviously, Starlight didn’t actually need to say anything. Tristan could carry the whole get together on her own shoulders at this rate. Snapping her mouth shut, she gestured for him to speak, giving a silent promise that she would allow it.

Starlight couldn't help but grin; he didn’t seem to mind her active dialogue. It made him feel more comfortable, like he could relax. Honestly, he already trusted her, so he wasn’t sure what her magic could do, but he was happy enough all the same.
“I’ve been good, I’ve stayed out of fights, so no youma. I kinda, like, feel my magic? But I don’t quite know exactly what it does. I don’t want to hurt you or anything, so if anything feels weird we have to stop, deal? But I’m ready, you should try your magic on me.”
He rolled his shoulders and looked like he was ready to go. “And then I want to know what it feels like when you cast it, like–how you make the magic happen. I want to know what it feels like so I can try and focus and use my own. If that doesn’t sound too weird. I’m just afraid of messing up and hurting someone.”

“Yeah, I…I’d love to help you with that! I just did the same thing with someone else recently, so this will be a breeze. And I’m pleased to be your test subject!” Tristan grinned and held her arms wide, waggling her eyebrows. “Hit me, Starlight. Let’s see what your powers can do, yeah? If you can get good with them, you’ll be able to do so much more, I bet!”
And she wouldn’t be here to help him for much longer so…it was better that he did know what to do…but hopefully, she would be able to still be his friend even when she followed Gwen into the arms of Chaos.
“I’m ready when you are!” Truth be told, she might not need to even practice on him, and if he really did trust her as much as he said he did well…
That wasn’t something to worry about! It might not even work if that was the case!

Starlight sucked in a breath and looked a little squeamish, because he really didn’t want to hurt her. She was his friend! But…He really wanted to know what his magic could do. He wanted to be able to protect people. He hoped, prayed, that it wasn’t going to like, explode her, or peel off her skin, or make her think he was a monster.
“Okay, here goes. But tell me if it’s uncomfortable or anything, I’ll stop.”
He felt the magic in him, like a tingling sensation that was willing him to move. It coursed through him, from the paintbrush he was gripping tightly in his hand. He didn’t know but he knew.
As soon as he started channeling, he felt like painting, or moving the brush, or something, so he wiggled it and tried to direct his magic at her, away from him, he didn't know. He painted a path on the ground by will alone, not quite understanding, but doing his best to tune into it.

He can paint a path within thirty feet of him and can target a single opponent at a time, ally or enemy, and they will feel a magnetic pull to the track he has painted. The magic will guide them along the path, compelling them to follow it. While it is possible to resist the urge, the magic will always have a magnetic pull. The magic pool lasts for 40 seconds at a time and he can keep painting a track until the pool ends or he can paint a cyclical track for them to follow (such as a circle) until the end of the magic. Tristan watched, eyes bright and excited as he began to paint with the brush in his hand. That…was so cool! She began to move towards it, even before she realized and slowly followed the mark on the ground, blinking and laughing brightly when she realized just what was happening. “What! Starlight, this is crazy!” She continued following the path, and when she tried to stop, tried to take a step away, her feet trembled and then just kept going.
“I feel like I’m drawn to it, which…is doubly funny because you drew it!”
The more the line grew, the more she walked. This could be very useful, getting people to move away from him, getting people to follow a path, keeping them in line for other magic to affect them.
…Kind of dangerous, really. But, super cool!

He watched her as she followed. “Crazy good or crazy bad? It doesn’t hurt or anything?”
He didn’t exactly know how to turn it off; he wiggled the paintbrush a bit, but he still felt like the magic was moving through him. Through his brush, through the ground.
“It’s so weird, it’s like a tingle. I should have set a timer or something, I want to see how long it works. Remind me for next time. I want to see what happens if I try to paint up a building, too. Are you sure you’re not just going along with it? –Are you teasing me? Try to ignore it!”

“No! There’s no pain or anything, it’s just like…mm…like I’m pulled to follow the line? No! I wouldn’t tease you like that, Starlight! That would be so rude!” Tristan laughed and shoved the heels of her hands into her eyes and tried to take a step off of the line, but she nearly tripped over her own feet as they continued to follow. “No! You see, I’m not doing this! I can’t even see!”
She hesitated. “Am I still following it?” Tristan yelped softly as she began to follow where he had wiggled, throwing her eyes open to see just what was going wrong. “What…damn, at least hold it steady!”
God, what would happen if he did it up a building?
“...Try the up the building with someone else okay? I don’t really want to play spiderman!”

Starlight almost burst into laughter. “Okay, okay. I’m going to stop it, I’m sorry! Keep your eyes open, no fancy tracks or anything. I don’t exactly know how to turn it off so I’m going to just point it there for a minute longer.”
He held true to his word and tried to make sure he kept it steady so she could relax in place until he figured out how to turn it off.
After a few seconds it felt like the trickle of magic had faded a bit, and he finally lowered his paintbrush.
“Thank you! –Are you okay, no weird feelings or anything? –I feel really hungry. I don’t know if that’s the magic. I think it’s just me. I’ll have to practice more to find out. That’s wild–like, I knew there was magic, but I didn’t know--you know? …No. That makes no sense. It’s weird. But thank you, Tristan. Thank you for trusting me enough to let me practice.”

When the magic faded, Tristan was finally able to move off of the path, and again she nearly stumbled. “That’s crazy, and can be super helpful to you I bet, especially if you wanted to get away from someone, just make them turn around and walk away from you and run in the other direction!”
She grinned, looking at him with pride in her eyes. “If you’re hungry, do you wanna go grab something to eat? My treat of course!” Tristan glanced around and when she felt no others around, she let her power fade, standing there as Cadence. “Come on, there’s a great diner down the road which has the most amazing peach cobbler, and I need some. They have great food all around though, so, come on!”
