Today, Laike promised himself he wouldn't do any Negaverse things. He wasn't going to do any shifts at the tattoo shop, either.

Today was a special day — his sister's birthday. The pair were to go to the movies, then have dinner with the family afterward. He'd been thoughtful enough ahead of time to take some of his flowers to the florist's and get a few clipped off, trimmed and wrapped. He found it was cheaper that way, and a little more personal, even if he didn't know how to do bouquets quite that nicely on his own.

The problem was, by the time he left the florist's, his bus flew by. The next one wasn't for a half hour, and he was trying to be timely about meeting He at the theater. His sister had a talking problem that he was trying to politely avoid.

Sighing, Laike ducked around the side of the florist shop and donned Niter's guise. The bouquet was sent to subspace — better to travel hands-free and not wreck the flowers in the process — and he traded the gift for a long-sleeved undershirt. it was easy enough to pull it on under his bodice, made him look gently more normal, and gave him a little more protection against the cold. He still felt weird walking around in shorts, but.

It beat walking home with an obvious hole in his chest. The forehead one was covered by bangs, at least.

That was how Niter's long trek to the movie theater had started: powered up, at a jog, along the sidewalks of Destiny City.

The unfortunate thing for Niter was that, in her efforts to better learn and understand the city, Dagon had taken to exploring. She did it powered up, primarily, and it meant she had to stick to shadows and back alleys to stay out of the view of ordinary people--she took warnings about accidentally exposing magic to a relatively unknowing populace quite seriously--but she still liked to be out and about, as herself. Ophelia was fine, and she liked the human glamor Viatrix had helped her create, but for a thousand years, she had been Dagon, and that was the form that felt most natural to her.

It had been quiet, so far, but the sudden bloom of a strange aura startled her. It was Negaverse, yes, but...strange. Not like the officer she'd encountered.

It felt, to her, wrong. Immensely so.

A sharp intake of breath, and she was off towards it--it was hard to pinpoint an exact location, but once she was within vision distance, she was sure she had found what she was seeking.

It was--strange.

There was only so much she could tell, since she was behind....him? Perhaps? Long hair in an odd multi-braid style, black top, shorts, and an aura that made her skin crawl.

Dagon inhaled, tensely.

One of those Negaverse Senshi that Viatrix had told her about, then. A violation of the natural order. Something that should not exist. She shuddered.

She called on her magic.

"Dreadful Aspect," she said, and she darted in, letting the fog bloom around her and aiming her fist for the small of the stranger in black's back.

Quote:
Dagon touches her fist to her chest, and a strange fog begins to swirl around her. Enemies within ten feet of Dagon will see her as something monstrous and dreadful, and experience a sense of oncoming doom in her presence. These effects last for 30 seconds, and Dagon can use this spell three times per battle.

That… was not a good feeling.

He felt something vaguely Orderiferous in his periphery, and for a while, he chose to ignore it. He wasn't doing anything worth investigating, just running from place to place like this. Maybe his sudden tagalong would helicopter him for a while, realize that he was just passing people on the streets, and move on. They might lecture him on how the Negaverse was bad, kinda like that Page. Worst case, they'd try to fight him, but Niter tried to believe that most White Moon senshi didn't engage unprovoked.

The closer that signature crept, the lower his hopes dropped. He didn't want a fight that day —

When they had closed in, Niter cut to the right. He felt something catch his hip, hard, and send him stumbling farther out from where he would've gone if he'd dodged a moment sooner. It hurt, but the pain was still dull. Turning, he saw —

"Oh, nopenopenopenopenope," he played Bloodborne, he knew how this ended.

Absolutely not, this was worse than fighting Orphan of Kos blind. He would not, thanks, this new friend of his could go straight the ******** back to Innsmouth where she belonged, crawl right back up into Kos, whatever, as long as it left Niter out of the picture.

Which was to say, Niter was sprinting in exactly the opposite direction of this fantastic disaster.

He was afraid. Good. That was the only appropriate reaction to her. She wondered if the Lieutenant she'd battered around before had passed on her message--or if his fellows were still ignorant that she was out there, hunting them. How unfortunate if it was the latter.

There seemed to be a thread of cowardice among them, too--though perhaps that was the fear her magic inspired, the creeping dread that surrounded her in clinging, dripping fog.

She smiled, menacingly, as she moved charged after him. Just like the other one, he had long hair--and it flew out behind him, and she snapped a hand out, aiming to catch a braid.

"Seems stupid of your Negaverse to keep giving its soldiers such a glaring weakness," she said. It would be amusing if it weren't so very pathetic.

Something tugged on his braid and his head snapped back, and he skidded to a halt. It hurt — definitely stung — and he needed a moment to regain his balance.

His first thought was to cut the braid and keep running. But, he didn't have a weapon like a Lieutenant did. And if he was a Lieutenant, he wouldn't have gotten his hair caught, either.

His second thought was his magic, but that was useless. Very useless. What was he going to do, disappear her bodice?

His third thought was to hit her. He went with that — drew his elbow up and threw it back at her, blind. Anything to get her to let go and leave him be. "I wasn't doing anything, so how about you go find a harbor to haunt?" If Destiny City turned out to be the hub of old gods, he'd need a lot more than shitty magic, or even a Lieutenant's weapon, to stand a chance.

The hit of his elbow struck Dagon, staggered her, a bit, but she kept her grip on his braid, using it to wrench him back towards her. At least he had a little fight in him, wasn't begging for her to let him go. That was noble, in the face of advancing dread.

His suggestion made her laugh, darkly.

"Oh, I don't know, I've found your city suits me quite well. And don't lie to me. Your type--you Negaverse monsters--you're never just doing nothing. Out planning to drain energy? Kill civilians? Don't be shy, I'd love to know exactly what Chaos scum considers 'nothing.'"

Did she want to kill him? Not particularly, she supposed. Maybe he was telling the truth. It just seemed so glaringly unlikely to her--why power up without some intent?

"Monsters?" The comment had him think, if only or a moment — what if he saw youma, and whatever the hell she was, as monsters, when he was really the monster? Some tentacled, fleshy, abominable thing, straight out of Bloodborne. What if he looked like Ludwig the Accursed?

He shuddered at the thought.

Niter drew to a stop as she kept her hold. Damn, she was really something else — like a bad dream layered over a nightmare and steeped in eldritch bullshit. "I'm not kidding?" He huffed, a little winded.

"I'm just trying to get across the city. I missed my bus, and I'm on a deadline, so I thought — I could get there faster like this."

He paused, then added, "am I going to go insane if I like, stare at you for too long?" Because that was just what he needed on top of everything else.

He seemed so earnest. And he was sticking to his story. She let go of his hair, crossing her arms, and looking him up and down. He certainly seemed cowed by her, and by her power, and as her magic began to fade, and the monster changed to reveal the inhuman Senshi beneath, she tilted her head to the side.

"You probably won't go insane from looking at me," she said, dryly, "but perhaps you ought not chance it, hmm? If you're telling the truth, you have somewhere to be. So go."

Perhaps she ought to let him off, this one time. Hope that he was telling the truth. Try to be a little more of the person Ophelia used to be, the one Kalari had fallen in love with, who wanted to see the best and brightest things in the universe.

She began to look less like a creepy fish monster demon god, but she never looked, well, normal. If normal was characterized by usual human shape with usual human colors. Which was weird, but. Maybe that was worth mentioning to Jet?

He didn't stick around to ask her about it, though. As soon as the senshi released Niter, he bolted in the direction of As Far Away From This b***h As Possible, full speed, no brakes.

As he ran, he yelled aloud, "Thanksforyourhospitalitybyeeeeee ☆" and drew out the star emoji above his head. While running. For his life.

He was definitely, positively, certainly late.
