The influx of travelers coming through Zenner's port never failed to bring attention to Mr. Fowler's shop. Herbalists and healers alike were always in search of apothecaries with readily available ingredients like what they could provide. Both Alocius Fowler and his apprentice, Zadia Galway, sold their services for coin as well as foreign plants that didn't grow on Belrean soil. There was a particular interest in flora that so happened to be toxic, for the purpose of making antidotes of course, and of the occasional bit of fauna whose venom could be extracted.

At the moment Mr. Fowler had stepped out to attend to clientele in Valmon. It was Zadia's job to not only keep up with the rather expansive greenhouse attached to the rear of the shop, but to also tend to those that came through their door. While she may not have been able to keep up with some of the more intricate orders she was still experienced enough to do the basics. Moving around the main shop itself, Zadia hefted a rather large pot onto her nearly non-existent hip and bustled the large, leafy plant toward the large window that faced the street.

[ Aeuri 1 ]

Aeuri was at a loss for words at the world he had stepped into. Sure, he had heard stories, but to fly across the sea and land in a land covered with steam was something out of a fairy tale. It was so much different than the dry and dusty home he traveled so far from.

Naturally, as soon as the little group landed they raced off, promising to meet at a local tavern after exploring. Aeuri would have rather spent time with his two siblings, but he understand their excitement and desire to go on their own journey. Surely his sister would find a magic shop, whereas his brother would find some sort of armory. That left him to go and do his thing, and so he wandered down to where many of the book shops and medical stores were located.

Keeping to himself, he often paused to appreciate the unique buildings and architecture, stunned in the styling and designs. Oba was well known for it's own unique way of stacking homes higher and higher, but Belrea had a charm that Aeuri found quite refreshing.

So, when he stumbled upon a building with a glass room behind, he fully paused to figure out exactly what he was looking at. He couldn't see inside, it almost was like the building had a fog clinging to it's windows, and so the healer hybrid decided to let his curiosity take him inside.

A large window faced the street with a variety of herbs and vascular plants on full display of the sun's rays. Some of the smaller ones hung from pots around the window's border while the larger, bulkier pots were organized just so underneath painted wording that spelled out 'Fowler's'. Zadia maneuvered her way closer, edging past some rather large leaves to a spot she'd prepared near the center of the display for this beauty. She was in the process of settling it down when the little bell over their door chimed, alerted her of a potential customer and Zadia called out, "Welcome to Fowler's, I'll be right with you." almost as if it were an unconscious response.

When she rose to her full height and turned toward the door she couldn't help pausing. A young man and a hybrid at that, though not one she'd ever seen before. "What can I do for you, sir?" Having grown up in Tendaji, Zadia had her guesses as to what sort of parents he must have had, but that mattered little to her. Business was business and while they didn't normally get much business from tourists - certainly not as much as the bakeries or inns - it was always a boon.

The bell ahead was his only warning before the shop keeper shouted out from the surprisingly packed greenhouse. It felt wild, a true reflection of the lands his siblings were exploring. Standing in the entrance, the Oban hybrid took a long moment to just accept the atmosphere. He breathed in slowly, the humidity of the room filled with the scent of plants. It was soothing, if a bit overwhelming to the senses, and Aeuri found himself calmed.

Then, the moment was broken as he heard the voice call out once more, and Aeuri turned to catch sight of a hybrid, though it was a bit hard to identify at first glance. She had pink hair, but darker brows, and looked very much like the Lightning community that filled this space. But something seemed a bit off, and eventually he realized she must be some sort of hybrid - maybe leaf?

"Oh..." He said a bit uncertainly, glancing away and around once more before looking back toward her with a sheepish smile, "I am new to the area and was...curious..." He finished flatly.

"I've never seen a building such as this...I didn't realize it was a greenery."

Such things existed in Oba, but not in such a state as the ones here.

In her efforts to tend to her plants tendrils of Zadia's dyed hair had come loose from their bun. A few longer strands curled around her face and as she came closer she carefully pinned them back in an effort to appear somewhat professional. "I can see that," She answered with a smile. "Curious tourists often stop by our door, but rarely come inside. It's nice to have a visitor for a change." My, but didn't he seem a little unsure of himself. In a way it reminded her of Lioe, but her brother would never have come inside. It still shocked her that he'd even managed to come to Belrea at all.

"It started as an apothecary, but when the building behind us went up for sale Mr. Fowler purchased the space to expand. Having access to our own herbage has helped tremendously." She reached for a cloth on the counter and cleaned off her hands. "For two bits I could take you on a tour; five bits if you'd like to see what creatures we keep as well. Fowler's specializes in tinctures as well as anti-venoms."

Hi cheeks warmed at her inspection, once again realizing he was out of his element, seemingly as always. But he had grown comfortable on his travels and so the discomfort quickly passed, and he smiled back in return.

"This isn't the place my siblings would visit, but I had to admit it's the type of place I find interesting. It's...peaceful." He replied, a little flatly at the end, before he realized what was happening and quickly moved to grab his money pouch. Pulling out five bits, he eagerly handed them over to the brightly haired girl before him, "I'd quite enjoy a tour...a full one if you don't mind?"

Maybe he would find some items he could purchase, and get a chance to pick her brain about the art of an apothecary while he was at it.

"I can empathize." A rueful grin cropped up onto Zadia's face. "My own siblings would prefer more exciting ventures, but I think they would find the craft just as alluring if they would take the time to look." Ever quick to add to their coffers, Zadia happily took his coin and added it to a little pouch on her belt. The weight of the leather satchel bumped against several rounded vials that hung from her hips, eliciting a few 'clinking' sounds when she moved.

"Follow me." Zadia motioned to a walkway that led around the main service counter, and past a row of shelving. While it was all impeccably organized there were a variety of liquids inside various jars and vials. Some were translucent enough to peer through while others seemed to almost move on their own. The further they walked toward the greenhouse the brighter the space became until the area doubled in size.

Instead of stonework like the Apothecary itself, the greenhouse was surrounded in glass. There were some areas that were covered near the back, but for the most part the day's sun filtered in atop a cacophony of greenery. Before she led them into the space, however, Zadia stopped by a small stand near the doorway. "Take these," She handed him a pair of gloves. "Touch nothing unless your skin is covered and stay away from large, blue flowers."

With her warnings in place, Zadia slipped on her own gloves and set about into the space. "Feel free to ask questions; I don't give enough tours to have a speech ready."

She sounded like an echo of his thoughts - he was on this trip not for the sense of adventure, but for the fact that his siblings wanted the adventure. It allowed him a chance to explore the world, but he most likely would not have left had he not had two others who dragged him along. Granted, he adored both Orin and Nasuri, but it was clear they all were their own independent person, even if they had the same look.

As she took the coin and motioned him along, Aeuri couldn't help the grin that settled on his face, like a youngling in a candy store. This was the type of adventure he preferred. A casual, safe adventure. Looking at the concoctions as they passed, he found himself relaxing and settling into the activity, before the glass lightening softened the area even more.

"This is quite the atmosphere." He said softly, caught up in it all before she turned to him and handed him gloves. Nodding seriously at her warning, sliding the gloves on, "I haven't gone on enough tours to have any expectations." He replied simply with another smile, nodding for her to lead on.

Good, then he wouldn't compare her to anyone else. While Zadia was knowledgeable about her craft she wasn't the most charming of personalities some days and could be rather curt at times. A bi-product of two parents who valued the quality of their work over workplace relationships.

"This section here is all of our samples from Matori, Oba, and Tale respectively." There were neatly organized rows with information cards, as well as notebooks, attached to small stands in front of the plants. "The booklets help us to keep track of plant care as well as information on where further reading is kept. Take this one for example." Zadia stepped forward to a smaller fern that held the tiniest of indigo bulbs in-between it's leaves. When she reached for the booklet, she lifted it so that he could see the writing as well. "The leaves themselves are harmless and completely edible. This bulb, however, mimics a fluid sac that gives water to the grass during dry seasons. If you were to take this one, however, you would die a very slow, painful death." When she placed the booklet back onto it's pedistal Zadia gave the plant a loving look. "I've been studying this one since I was young; it's from my personal collection back in Tale. My father helped to concoct a remedy before we moved back to Belrea, and now instead of death the victim would have a few days of an upset stomach."

He looked at the samples as they walked by, recognizing a few from Oba but not much else. Maybe something he saw in passing in Tale, but they moved quickly enough he couldn't quite study what she was showing. The booklets were interesting too, smart even as there was so much surely it was hard to keep track of. Stepping forward as she approached the fern, he glanced at the writing.

"Oh-oh!" He stepped back a bit too, swallowing as he looked at her to catch her loving look.

"How do you safely handle it then? And would you die from ingesting it or simply from the fluids?" He was curious, and impressed at the research they made to such a common item.

"So long as the bulb is supported from the bottom-," Zadia got close enough to mimic cupping the bulb itself without actually touching it, "- someone else can snip the steam and help with the transfer into a stable container. So long as they're not jostled too much or punctured they really are a hearty plant."

Of course, now that she was this close she was able to fully inspect her little 'baby' while talking. Zadia couldn't help bending at the knee to get a good look at the soil, but what she found kept the smile on her face. Perfect, as it should be. "It's really the fluids that are problematic. The amount consumed determines how quickly symptoms set in, but so long as the bulb isn't drained then chances of a full recovery are high."

Pausing for a moment, Zadia took a step back to look at him and quirked her brow, "...This isn't in the tour, but...I did recently come across something special if you'd like to see it."

He watched in fascination as she continued the discussion, amazed at her knowledge. She didn't seem to be much older than him - in fact she might even be younger. He appreciated the demonstration of knowledge she showed in her art. Almost envious, actually.

When she spoke up about something special, his cheeks reddened in excitement at the thought, "I've been enjoying this so far...I'd be delighted to see what you consider special." He said with a friendly tone, not wanting the tour to end. This was probably one of the most enjoyable experiences he's had so far on his trip.

Zadia's cheeks brightened with excitement. "Right this way then!" Honestly she was a little nervous about showing anyone her most recent find, if only because she'd yet to show her employer, but there was no reward without risk. She him toward the back of the facility where a few creatures were kept, though instead of going through those doors directly Zadia made a slight left into a smaller room. "This is our quarantine area. I would hate to cause issues for our work over a personal project so-,"

She motioned toward a few enclosures on their left. While most were empty, it was one nearest the door that stopped her. Zadia carefully opened the top, then reached down to produce a keldari. It was a little thing, barely out of it's first shed, but unlike most of it's kind it had two heads. "Isn't she lovely? On a professional level I plan to study her - or maybe their? - poison to see how it compares to the others. Personally though I just found her too fascinating to pass up."

As he followed along, Aeuri curiously peeked at the behind the scene setting. He wasn't sure what was so different, but the action of getting a secret tour made him feel giddy. It became special simply because of the secrecy and exclusivity, even if he was absolutely clueless about what made an apothecary an apothecary.

Upon the statement of it being a quarantine area, the Oban hybrid snapped his hands closer to his side. It wouldn't do to touch anything that he shouldn't touch, less he wanted to become a test subject for some unknown discovery.

Pausing their movement as she approached an enclosure, he was surprised to see that it wasn't a plant, but a Keldari. He was quite familiar with the thing, considering his aunt used it in her dances, and his entire demeanor relaxed as he let out a breathy chuckle.

"Hello there, darling." He replied softly, looking a little closer in wonder at the two heads and crystal-like eyes peeking back at them, "May I?" He asked casually, curious to see such a unique creature a little closer.

"Of course," Zadia held out the keldari and supported it's body as both heads flicked their tongues toward the stranger. When it felt comfortable enough the keldari made it's way closer toward him, keen on scenting the air and exploring as she went. "I haven't chosen a name yet - or names, I guess. I wanted to give my younger sister the honor. She's developed an interest in them." In the odd ones, at least. If Zadia thought Marcella would have been happy with a regular keldari she would have tracked one down for her years ago, but Marcella was a unique girl.
