She was rather bored of the idealism, but given how frequent the interruptions had become the woman was far beyond the point of patience. Fortunately for her the Page that stood in her way seemed to lack anything that would be considered remotely threatening. She shivered against the wind that bit at her thighs through what Cristobalite could only describe as a nightgown, and she could scarcely hold herself still.
Confrontation was not something very many were good at, particularly when nervous, but to her credit this strange looking woman had done so. Now stood between Cristobalite and the unfortunate homeless man behind her, she was clasping her little lantern for courage in both hands and seemingly kneading her slippers against the ground like a nervous child. Endearing to some, an inconvenience for the Lieutenant.
Nothing she couldn't handle though.
It was with a rather exasperated sigh that Cristobalite rolled her eyes, pausing to stare heavensward briefly before lunging forward to unceremoniously slammed the Page into the wall with her forearm. She had no interest in corruption, there seemed to be no point to it given the stories she heard of all those who fled or betrayed them, and thus there was only one adequate way in which to address this. She had, after all, promised herself that when the opportunity presented itself things would be cleaner.
"I would provide you with guidance but the point rather seems a little moot," she remarked, plunging her hand into the depths of Serenitatis's chest. "But you to be afforded some thanks for your donation, at the very least."
~~~
The Code had warned her, it had said that monsters lurked on Earth. They sapped life, stole and even destroyed souls, and she would need the strength to defeat them. Sadly, it seemed that the 'strength' she needed was somewhat lost to her in these moments. Either she hadn't mastered it yet, or she hadn't yet earned them, all she knew was that this must have been how it felt as that patient had been assaulted.
...A tightness clutched at her chest, her very core.
A sickly chill began to came over her and as the strange woman began to grasp, she felt her breath leave her. Serenitatis's eyes widened in alarm and though she did try to squirm and struggle her way through, it was clear that she really should have done that sooner.
Did it hurt when it finally came out? She supposed she was about to find out, but my how fleeting her gift had been, and such disappointment The Code must have felt for choosing her...Seiana_ZIxx Yes you may hit Cris very hard of you would like. She'll flee eventually, but do whatever you'd like. xD
Encke normally patrolled quite a bit, but he found himself patrolling a bit more than usual these days. A lot of recent events had him a bit off-kilter; there was a lot of unexpected things happening all at once, a lot of unexpected worries, and even ensuring that the nearby streets were clear of any threats had a way of helping clear his head. (There was also time on his comet and also time with Richard, but that was neither here nor there--) He caught the fainter energies as he approached them, one of them Negaverse--a lieutenant, probably--one of them a page. He couldn't quite help the chill in his blood when he thought about the concept of a page against anyone, his mind immediately supplying him with the thoughts of Basiluzzo on the ground, starseedless, Faustite's foot pressing on his neck, his attempts to talk him out of it while also seeming like Basiluzzo wasn't as important to him as he was-- He shook himself out of it and dashed off in the direction of what he sensed. Knew he'd have to act immediately. Wasn't taking any chances with a Negaverse agent and a page. The pages were the least able to defend themselves of anyone on their side minus the cats, generally; unless they were already naturally strong fighters they didn't have much weaponry or magic to lean on. And a lieutenant had the same magic as a general did when it came to starseed taking-- His eyes widened when he realized what he was seeing. A page--a page of what, exactly--with the lieutenant's hand already deep in her chest. Instead of saying anything, he ran over and aimed straight for the lieutenant's face, aiming to daze her out enough that her grip would loosen and he could shove her back. Epine de Rose sending out Encke for a rescue! Richtersveld is more of a talk them down type and this is an emergency ✨
He came at her before she had even spotted him, and yet the fact she hadn't spotted him was inexcusable. His energy practically rippled through the area, her immediate radius flooded with far more of it than she was accustomed to. In a bolt of light he was upon her, his fist slamming squarely into her jaw with such intensity that she released her hold on the fragile seed within the Page. Flung backwards with such force that the most she could do was hurl her own coin at him in return, it was mere seconds before she collided with the wall and slid downwards.
Ow.
Her coin had still managed to soar through the air, albeit pitifully, and achieved nothing more than a bounce against his shoe before she could summon it back. However in the face of such power it would be foolish of her to take a chance. Though he had power, she could also see that he wasn't shy about using it, and unlike the Page he seemed to have no inclination to hesitate. She didn't know who he was or why he radiated with that much power (a first for her, in the form of an eternal), but she would get to the bottom of it eventually.
As she stared at the man before her, the entire side of her face pulsing with pain, a promise that it would definitely leave a mark. She was soon assaulted on the other side of her head, though with far less force.
With a gentle 'bonk', it seemed as though the Page had thrown her lantern at her and it had found it's mark, smacking against her head in a manner that was sore, but thoroughly paled in comparison to the other side. A quick half glance as it fell to the ground and tipped over, the flame still burning, and Cristobalite made her decision.
Stumbling backwards, she placed distance between herself and the Order pair. With enough space between them, she then took off, leaving whatever he was, in the company of the Page she would definitely be reacquainting herself with later!
~~~
With the muffled clip of heels fading into the distance, the shivering Page afforded an opportunity to stumble forward and retrieve her own lamp. Carefully bringing it into her embrace, only then did she look up towards her guest with rather wide eyes. She had 'felt' something before when she met Ida, she had 'felt' something in Cristobalite, but this was something that was far beyond that and far more noticeable.
...But this one, this one didn't seem to look like her. If he was one of her own, then where was his relic? She couldn't see anything on him, or maybe it was hidden?
"Thank you," she uttered slowly, at last remembering that she did in fact have manners and when someone had literally just saved your soul from a monster, they deserved the appropriate expression of gratitude. Although, would it be crass of her to ask why his presence seemed to be very 'bright'? While the last encounters had all felt like little blips, this one was altogether different.
"I didn't really think that one through," she admitted.

There was a part of him that might have felt bad for sending her flying in that way if it wasn't for what she had her hand upon and not for the memories in his mind that threatened to send his emotions upside down and inside out. The coin bounced against his shoe, and he pondered kicking it back in her direction before she simply summoned it back to herself. Encke leveled her with a stare and was about to threaten her to leave or he'd make her before he saw something sail by his head, a lantern bonking the other side of the lieutenant's head and leaving yet another mark. And that seemed to be enough for her. He snorted under his breath, watching as she started away from them and then darted away from them. He let her go, more concerned with the page in front of him than whoever she was or wherever she was going. Better to make sure she was alright. "No problem at all." He breathed, cracking his knuckles and rolling his neck. "I get it. My husband's like that too, always trying to protect everyone." And it was something he admired, sincerely, as much as it brought him stress in equal measure. That civilian who had been with Basiluzzo, who he had managed to get to leave without anyone going after her again-- "You want to save every starseed you can, you know? And I do too." He found himself clocking her symbols, careful not to stare too long at any one location. He hadn't ever seen a knight with that symbol before, and he had seen quite a few knights in his time as a senshi. It looked like a crescent moon... "Just glad I could save yours. Are you new to this?"

It came as some small comfort that she wasn't the only one who happened to get in the way of certain things. He hadn't mentioned that his husband was probably a little more sensible about it. Well, that was Serenitatis's assumption but given she had never met the man, she could be completely wrong about that one!
"Well, that is true...I did make a promise," she murmured softly and closed her eyes briefly. There was something calming about holding this odd relic, perhaps it was a placebo, but she felt a little safer when in its light. "But I've been trying to find a specific one," she admitted. "Before it's too late that is, The Code said I didn't have very long," she sighed softly, somewhat heavily.
But his question...
"Um," she finally pulled herself to her feet and walked towards him with a small nod. "Newborn baby, would probably be accurate," she confirmed. "Perhaps a small toddler near an electrical socket would be more fitting," she added after a moment of consideration. She had been rather reckless after all, and while she had been warned, she had somewhat over-estimated her own potential.
"I was summoned to a...Hallway?" she peered skyward towards the moon and smiled warmly. "I was very tired," she conceded. "But I met a talking orb floating in front of a tablet," she added and returned her gaze to Encke. "Either way it said that I was on the Moon and that it had sensed that I needed its help and well..."
She lifted her fingertip to lightly tap at the implant on one of her ears and shrugged.
"I thought I had misheard, but I hadn't," she cleared her throat. "And then I thought I was dreaming..."
She paused and held up her lamp towards him, partially illuminating his face, though he didn't need much help given his uniform.
"And then I woke up with this beside me in the hospital cafeteria so I clearly wasn't dreaming, or if I am still dreaming, then it's turning in to quite the saga. That, and I'm probably in a lot of trouble at work."
Another pause.
"I'm Serenitatis, at least I think that's the name, it's a place on the Moon? I'm supposed to keep it nice and safe, and provided I do, then I can maybe save the person who lost their soul as well as others."

A specific one. She was looking for a starseed, and that wrenched his heart as he thought of the chances. He had known if Faustite had disappeared with Basiluzzo's starseed, or even worse, that would have been it. There would have been no finding it, and his husband's life would have just fed the machine. It had been the same with so many others. Encke wanted her to find that starseed, he would just need to figure out if there was a way to get it back-- So she was new. Very new. That did confirm a few things for him, but it didn't necessarily answer the question of where she was from. Not until she started talking, not until she mentioned the floating orb and the tablet, in particular, not until she mentioned that she was on the Moon. Oh. ... Really? "So that explains the crescents," he murmured, his eyes widening in surprise. The Code on the Moon was making new knights? He hadn't heard of anything like that before, but ... well, clearly the proof was right in front of him. And she was already talking about taking care of a place in space on the Moon, which was something that absolutely delighted him, but for once he tried to yank his mind from the space priority into what mattered more -- saving the life she wanted to save. Though he did say, "If you take good care of that space, your own starseed may eventually be protected against what that lieutenant just did," before continuing with, "Well, nice to meet you, Serenitatis! I'm Transcendent Eternal Encke, senshi of plasma. Not quite the same as you, but an ally." He grinned. "Knights have weapons and some magic, later on, and senshi have magic." Just in case she was so new she hadn't even met a senshi yet... "I've actually never met a knight of the Moon before! Didn't know there were moon knights, actually..." Was this a new development?

"It will?" this caught her by surprise. If this was something that she could achieve then it would be a valuable thing indeed, but could it be taught to others, or was it entirely dependent on having one of these special 'places' in the universe? Her brow furrowed thoughtfully at this for a brief instance before she pursed her lips and returned to the immediate topic at hand.
"The Code said that it didn't need knights before, apparently the Moon um..." she raised a brow and provided 'air quotes' as she spoke the next word. "Kingdom?" she hazarded. "Didn't require them, it was already defended by something or someone else," she admitted. She was paraphrasing of course, she had no idea what the true history of the universe was given that magic was real and space travel seemed entirely possible... but that was what she had been told, wasn't it?
"But it found me and apparently it's worried that there aren't enough of 'us'," she squinted a little at that. "So it sent me, to bolster ranks and help to maybe turn the tide?" She didn't want to insult him, he had no doubt been working tirelessly to protect those around them, but there were individuals out there who would shoot the messenger even if their remarks were observations made by some floating white space orb.
"Not that I'm of much use at the moment, but I would like to be," she murmured and cleared her throat.
"I'm not really sure what a Senshi is though," she eyed him thoughtfully. "What makes you different to us?" she asked curiously. She hadn't quite twigged that he was referring to her relic when he mentioned a 'weapon', but then again, to her a weapon was something deadly and unless she really focused on clouting someone with this thing, it wasn't likely to do much at all!

Encke put a pin in making sure he would tell her more about transcendence in a few minutes. That was definitely something he wanted to make sure she knew about-- So the Code said that the Moon Kingdom hadn't required knights before -- which was admittedly interesting, but made sense considering the fact that he had run into knights of all the other Sol planets but none of the Moon -- but now the Code was worried there weren't enough people to help. Was he gathering that correctly? It seemed she was worried about offending him with the way she finished that like she was asking him a question, and he chuckled lightly. "No, I think It's right. Chaos, and especially the Negaverse -- that's the force that takes the starseeds if you haven't heard that name yet -- has a chokehold on this planet, I think. Their members are corrupted versions of you and me, and they keep corrupting more." Had corrupted more by force recently-- "Well, I'm glad to hear you decided to join us. And that in itself is a signal that you're being useful to the cause, right? You're taking on a big responsibility." His smile was encouraging. He hoped she'd find it that way. "As you do this longer, you'll gain more power. Knights eventually gain some kind of magic along with getting a more useful weapon -- or an artifact. I've also heard it referred to that way." He paused, shifted, and pondered the best way to respond to what made him different as opposed to a knight. "As for what makes us different -- we're tied to a homeworld instead of a wonder like you are. So I'm Sailor Encke, right? My homeworld is Encke's Comet, and that's what my starseed comes from. I have magic surrounding the concept of "plasma"--like the state of matter, not the blood plasma. And in my past life, my starseed belonged to a member of the species that lived there." That was probably the most alarming part of what he would be telling her, he imagined, so he paused there in case she needed a moment to process that.

She glanced at her lantern with a wry expression and held it up to inspect it more closely. Her gaze flicked between him, and the lantern, her eyebrow raising ever so slightly at the prospect that this would be a weapon. If she were to be entirely honest she failed to see how this could be used in any lethal capacity unless she smashed the glass on it and what if that caused other issues for her? Something in her gut had told her, very firmly, that she shouldn't ruin her gift!
However, he was still speaking and after a moment -
"Wait, wait, wait..." She lowered her lantern and with no concept of personal space in the moments, stepped towards him to peer at him more closely. "You're an alien?" she asked in surprise. Yes, he as glowing but she could use her context cues and understand this was some sort of gift he had received. What she couldn't quite rationalise was that he had said he came from a comet, and that he had been another 'species'. That bit she didn't understand, and to be fair perhaps she never would, given that she was brand spanking new.
...If she had a past life, it probably hadn't been a particularly eventful one.
"You don't look very alien now," she admitted and shook her head. "But the world still chooses you, even though you're not quite the same," she mused with interest. "Can you go to it like I went to the Moon?" she asked curiously. If deep space travel was a thing, and she meant real deep space travel (they'd already been to the moon in the 60s, that didn't count), then there were some elements of the known universe that needed to be re-evaluated.
"Were your species carbon based? All known bodies in the universe can't support life that we know of, let alone a comet," she murmured. Yes, she'd read news articles and absorbed some of the detail, but she certainly couldn't provide more beyond a very infantile understanding of it all. Space, up until this point, hadn't really been her 'thing'.
Ultimately Encke had become a source of great interest, but at the same time, he had inspired more questions for the curious soul who would probably be shooed away from the Celestial Theatre by a rather exasperated Code. She hadn't intended to be a nuisance, but she could only assume there were some things that only it could answer (unlesss he found an exceptional mentor).

Encke didn't seem to mind the personal space invasion. Something about being an actor meant that he regularly dealt with people he hardly knew in his personal bubble, and this was someone he actually wanted to help out-- Her questions were all valid -- no, he wasn't an alien now, which was a fundamental hole in some of the arguments he had heard the Negaverse give -- even if his starseed had a non-native to Earth origin. It was a good question if his species was carbon-based -- he presumed they were, but she was right in that living on comets was something people on Earth had never really conceived of. He waited for her to finish her series of questions before he cleared his throat and started from the top. "Not now, no. Was alien in a past life, but even though my starseed is linked to Encke's Comet I was born here and am as human as you are." He held out his arms in case she wanted to inspect the transcendence markings more closely. Probably could clarify that too -- "The markings are due to my transcendence. If you were to form that bond with your wonder, you'd gain some of your own." He pulled one of his arms back to himself so he could summon his senshi phone and show it to her. "We can go to our homeworlds as you can go to the Moon. Could show you sometime," normally would offer for now, but he knew the time constraints involved, "once your mission to find that starseed is complete. Surprisingly, Encke's Comet is quite livable." He had helped over the years, of course, but-- "I suspect the people of Encke were carbon-based, but not like we're used to. For one, they were bioluminescent. Spots like stars across their skin, mouths that glowed too--" Encke quickly worked to bring himself out of the images that floated to his mind. "Ultimately, I don't think any of us know why we're born here, beyond our species being dead," he swallowed, "so we were reborn on a planet that does have plenty of life. But we can bring life back to our planets, too. I've watched a few species of bugs and animals return." There was a part of him that hoped, deep in his heart, that somehow, those species of animals would eventually lead to the return of larger creatures and then the people he saw in his memories. He would settle for the world becoming a place where people could stay long-term, where people could be safe long-term, to being a place where people with nowhere to go could thrive-- "From what I understand, the same is true of wonders. I have some knight friends who have seen the return of bugs and other similar creatures."

Serenitatis seemed to muse over his description of his former species for some time. Quite frankly if this type of information were to come out it would cause mass panic in some, but also redefine some very fundamental 'truths' that had been considered irrefutable for quite some time. Science as they knew it would complete transform, things once deemed impossible now probable... It was an exciting thing to consider, but the reality of it all was that humans were largely unpredictable and some may be benevolent towards unknown species there would always be others who were most definitely not.
No, sadly, this secret society she now found herself in (and its hidden treasures) would have to remain just that...hidden. However if the future looked brighter in years to come and society changed enough that it was ready for such information? Well, it was safe to say she would be there to welcome them with open arms.
"That is a challenge to picture," she admitted after a moment. While she could imagine what they might look like, she probably wasn't doing them justice.
"So for want of a better word your Homeworld has branded you," she continued as she observed his markings. She hadn't meant it to sound quite so direct or negative, but her phrasing probably could have been better. "Do those do anything or are they just there for show?" she asked curiously. He had mentioned that some were afforded protection by their worlds so perhaps this was it? If one were to have such markings then one would be protected?
The prospect of her own dilapidated wonder transforming into something much more impressive was an odd concept to her. The Code had said magic was on her side, that things would improve, but picturing such a monumental transformation was difficult at best. Still, she was face to face with a man who had clearly achieved something akin to that and now his comet could support life.
A comet!
"Mine was definitely a touch 'dead'," she admitted with a wry smile. "I was told it would get better though," she added. A delicate shake of her head and she raised a brow, she really didn't see how magic would fix all of it. "I will be honest though landscaping isn't exactly my strong suit," she finished.
A pause.
A double take to a previous remark.
"Wait, you can bring people with you...?"

"There's some paintings of my people on my planet," admitted Encke, easily. "Maybe I'll show you sometime." He could understand why it would be hard to visualize. It had become so easy for him after years of witnessing memory blips of the person who had once possessed the title of Sailor Encke, too. The description was one he had settled on after a while -- the spots like stars felt especially fitting considering the constant visual of the stars above them. Felt fitting considering how The People had described themselves, too-- "They do," he nodded, letting her continue to observe his markings. "This transcendence is what has protected my starseed. Two people have attempted to take it since. They both got blown back. Can't attempt to corrupt me, either." Encke's lips quirked upward in something of a victorious smirk. He had felt a deep fear in the moment Faustite went for his starseed, a deep worry that perhaps that was it -- and then it very much wasn't, and he wasn't sure he quite held back his victorious cackling at that time. "On top of that, I've gained the ability to share my own energy. It's helped me give people the strength to keep going or recover the strength that the Negaverse has sapped from them. I know another transcendent knight who has gained more usage of her magic." That was Pendour. Perhaps he would put Serentatis in contact-- She was a transcendent knight, after all. Was probably a bit more equipped to help her out than Encke was, as much as Encke knew of knights at this point-- "I'm not sure I was the best at landscaping at first, either, but I think it gets easier. And honestly, it felt like my homeworld was helping me along." He couldn't help a small snicker at her double-take. "And yes, you can. Wouldn't recommend taking too many at first. It gets easier as time goes on. But one's probably fine." Even when Methone had been eternal when he and four others accompanied her to Sedna's purification, he still needed to share energy with her. Even at their stage, it wasn't easy. But it was doable. "I've helped a couple of people at their own wonders or homeworlds that way if you ever want another set of eyes."

"Fascinating," Serenitatis murmured softly. She peered down at her lantern for a few moments, lips pursed delicately into a line as she ruminated over his words. The additional power, surprisingly, wasn't all that appealing to her... but the ability to be protected spoke to her on a different level. After a moment she returned her gaze to the man and took a small breath. Perhaps he wouldn't know the answer but given he was one of them -
"Can this be taught?" she asked curiously. "Or rather -"
She paused as she thought of how best to express her intention. She had made a promise to The Code to find a means to save those within the City, perhaps even the world (she wasn't sure on that bit to be fair), and if there was a manner in which to do that then she absolutely had to pursue it.
"Is there a way for us to project that protection on to others," she said after a moment. "I have no doubt it can be taught to those who might have the necessary links," she furrowed her brow. To be protected in that manner would definitely be helpful to her, but she wanted far more, she needed far more. Whether or not any of that was possible or if he even knew how to do that still remained to be seen, but if there was a way then surely...
"I'm sorry," she cleared her throat. "It just... If there was a way to share that..." she tailed off softly.

As Serentatis finally turned her gaze back to her lantern, Encke lowered his arms and gathered them back to himself, swinging them in unison with the way he bounced on his toes for a moment. It settled as he watched her, wondering quietly what she was turning over in her mind-- Taught? It was an interesting question, and Encke's instinctual response was something along the cliched lines of can show a horse to water, but can't make them drink. Encke promoted forging a good relationship with one's homeworld whenever he could because it could lead to transcendence, and transcendence was the only way he had ever known of to fully protect a starseed from being corrupted or taken. But he also knew it wasn't something he could make happen -- could show the way, sure. It was all about the individual relationship with the world. If he could find ways to help that, find ways to restore that, find ways to encourage it, he would, but-- But the question was a bit different than that, ultimately, and he couldn't help the small frown that formed on his face. Wanting to protect others was a good goal. He understood it deeply. If he could, every time that Basiluzzo went outside, he would have an aura of transcendent protection around him. If he could, none of the people he knew who didn't have this protection would ever be at risk again. At least, not from starseed-related harm. "If it can be, not in any way I've seen," Encke frowned, rubbing one shoulder with his opposite hand. "I'd love to be able to do that. Being able to extend that protection forward would be," would feel like the way to end this, honestly. He swallowed that down. "The best I've been able to do is encourage other people to pursue that relationship with their worlds, to their own place in space. "Which, unfortunately, doesn't necessarily help civilians. It just makes us better able to get in the way without fearing for our own starseed." He deeply wished there was a better way to protect civilians. "I think equipping them with knowledge helps. So they can know what to avoid, at least, and what they may need to defend themselves against. And if we discover them after having their energy drained, some transcendents -- myself included -- are able to help restore that energy."

Not that he knew of...
Well if that was the case then she knew what she had to do! She would of course, walk before she could run, but if there was a means to extend that protection to others who were less fortunate then her then she intended to find a way. However if she was to be successful in this then she would at least need to understand how it worked and in time, perhaps, her Wonder might see fit to extend the courtesy to her.
Encke mentioned she had to develop a bond right? That implied that she would have to find her inner gardener at the very least. Only moderately intimidating, but if she could lead herself and others towards something very special indeed, then she was going to have to get over that hesitation and own it. A visit to the library was probably necessary after this, if only to gather up a variety of books on horticulture.
Somehow she doubted her phone would work in space.
"Then watch this space," she said at last with a warm smile. It sounded almost like a promise, but she was just a page and had a great deal to learn. While she might have been successful the likelihood of it was a touch improbable, but in a world of magic... It was better to see what could possibly happen, right?
"But for now perhaps an education is the best way to proceed," she agreed. "If I'm to find a way to extend this to others then at the very least I should understand what it is to be what you are as well, right?" she continued and shook her head.
"I imagine that means I need to be a touch more reliable than what I am now though..."
She wasn't aiming to insult herself or her gift, but bonking someone on the head with a relic wasn't that useful in the grand scheme of things.
"I would like to see your world some time though, a place that is thriving so that I can understand. Then in time, perhaps I'll be able to show you mine," she added. Given she had never tried to get there on her own yet, she wasn't entirely sure if she could do it, and until she was sure...well, she wasn't about to gamble on someone's well being by bringing them with her!
