Follow up to: Owl Moon Rising

Diasporite squeaked at the sudden tug, that became a pull, the hiss-crisp scream he'd wanted to loose petered out into a weak little squeak of nothing. Of breathless air as everything in his vision went from Senshi, to snow to -- strangeness of being 'elsewhere'.

How the entire center of his world spun, then snapped into focus on something new.

How it felt like the air he was taking in was thinner, somehow, like the texture beneath his hands and knees felt different. Once he stopped squeezing his eyes tightly shut, and opened them enough to see...

"W-where" awestruck gasp and panicked flash across the pearlescent pinks; how his gaze reflected the stars beyond. The crystalline caste of towering prismatic glass born of snow. Any caustic little comebacks sat froze on his tongue. He didn't dare speak them, though he did stop and think long enough to glare. To did his little nails in and make demands like a mouse talking up at a lion -- "Where the hell is this!!!"

Blissful silence.

At least that was the sound that should have greeted them upon arrival. A peaceful calming whisper of the wind as it whipped around the icy spires, caressing the smooth surface of her world like a lover's touch. Instead, her ears were assaulted by the high-pitched panicked squeak of the Lieutenant she had essentially shunted through space and forcibly dragged him to her homeworld.

“Nowhere you can find on Earth or teleport to…” He was far from her prisoner here but she let that explanation sink in for a moment if only to dissuade him from attacking her. “This is my world. You’ll be safe here until we go back to Destiny City and hopefully, by then the Owl will have gotten bored and left.”

The Senshi of Cold rose to her feet and brushed the remnants of snow off her coat before offering the Negaverse Agent a hand to help him up.

"I --" 'cantteleport' certainly wasn't the thing to admit to, or say, or hint at. The idea that he couldn't call for help, couldn't even -- oh -- and if she left him to freeze and die. No one would know. He'd exist as an everlasting corpse-crystal on some dead to rights polar plane! He was too cute to die like that!!!

"--I'm sorry, but that explains absolutely naught a damn thing ah-ahbout! Your w-world -- all this!?" haughty thing that he was, he flippantly refused her hand, made it a damned 'point' to find his legs on his own, even if he skittered like a newly dropped giraffe in his awkward attempts to get 'up'.

"No wonder you all stay on Earth - if this - is this the best you have?! It's terrifying -- it makes the Owl look pleasant. Not-that-I'm-asking-togo-back-to-the-owl!" quickfire bullet pointed speech as he flailed a little to catch his balance, scrabbled at the air.

Wondered where all the -- the things were -- people - life forms. Trees? He didn't even know what planet he was on - Come to think of it - he didn't even know her name?!

Even if there wasn’t a hint of a smile, one delicate eyebrow raised in curious amusement while the lieutenant fumbled around like a novice ice skater, one that was about to s**t a brick because they were too afraid of falling so they try standing up straight and remain still thinking it will help them keep their balance. One thing she’d learned early on was not to try and catch a person if they were about to fall. Might be nice to mitigate some of the damage but the likelihood of both people falling was high and would be made worse if she landed on top of him.

“Those heels won’t do you any good out here. My best suggestion is to take them off.” She’d offer to give him a piggyback but knew he’d reject it outright, plus she didn’t want him to strangle her with his arms or her coat. “Otherwise you can wait here and I will get you a more suitable pair of shoes.”

Alcor pointed at a spire not more than a football field distance away. At its base there was what appears to be an intricately carved door made of ice that looked like it belonged to the entrance of a cathedral.

"Oh yes! The thing I'll do, in the middle of all this - is slip these damn things right off. Frostbite is most becoming of feet I hear. Then my toes would match my outfit, truly." sarcasm that lay in layers like sheet cake, for all that Dia tossed her a *look*, scathing thing that wrapped itself around a half fridged sigh. Out of the icebox, into the deep freezer. There was no winning, not with any Senshi, ever.

They plagued him. Especially the icy ones, somehow!? The battle, the rooftop, and now here?

"I will walk -- on my own -- you can keep your 'suitable shoes'. Shove them up a snowbank." high mutterances nearly carried away with the wind, but Dia was damn well determined to do it. Even if he had to baby deer step and wince for ever clipped metal slide and slip. For the way the ground sat him straight back on his knees for all the trying.

He refused to ask for help, if he had to c r a w l ---

Right up until he realized how far that trudge would be, until he looked and --- it was a moment -- two --- twelve. Time enough to cool his temper while his mind thawed over the shock of how damn far, the sheer awe-inspiring awfulness of the treck to the tower.

Glorious crystalline spire. The stark shape of the door in the distance. He had to ask himself if his pride was worth freezing for? Rak would've said no -- and the ******** if he did it secretly....slid his socked buttoned in feet out...off...ate his pride and squeaked for all the pervasive *coldcoldcoldcold* "The worst is - of all this - I usually l-like the snow!" Diasporite cursed, seethed, and sprinted towards the base of the spire --- only ate it once or twice halfway through. Before triumphantly throwing himself into the relative safety of the overarching entryway that held -- the most beautiful door he'd ever seen.

Once he'd wiped free the clumped ice that clung about the corners of his face at least.

Good lord… this young man, this Negaverse officer, he was acting like such a spoiled child.

Then again, he didn’t exactly ask to be shunted into space. But when the two options were weighted against each other, bringing him here was the lesser of two evils. Sure, she could have left him behind to be mauled by the angry owl but then his injury, and possibly death, would be on her head for abandoning him.

Alcor let out an exasperated sigh, “Wait here.” Grayish-blue eyes narrowed in warning but didn’t offer him time to protest before turning and walking towards a separate spire. Let him b***h in place about his cold feet; she’d be gone for only a moment.

Thank the cosmic gods that he was just a lieutenant and couldn’t teleport over unexpectedly.

When she was sure he wasn’t about to suddenly follow and his aura was where she had left him, Alcor powered down in a spot he could not see her, quickly removed her tennis shoes, and powered up just as fast. A dangerous move, but she could only tolerate his complaining so much before she decided to shove him down one of the crevasse and met him somewhere at the bottom.

Then again, that might still be an option just for the sheer amusement of hearing him scream as he slid down sixty-some-odd feet of ice.

The senshi of cold smirked at the thought but decided to play nice given what he’s been through and instead sat down and removed her senshi boots and tossed them to him. “Here.” His feet looked small enough that they should fit, even with the fur lining inside, and hey, because she just powered up, they were at least a freshly clean pair. “Put those on.”

As badly as Dia wished to refuse? To stick his tongue out and glare. The way his teeth chattered simply wouldn't allow it. That coupled with the idea of his look freezing on his face entirely?

A no go.

Instead he huffed, petulant thing, and slid down into a ball beneath the archway. The second the Senshi's back was turned? He went back to admiring her world. Fear-awe comingled as one singular thing and he swallowed cold sear and wind. Wiped ice-crystals from his lashes in a rough little scrub of motion, furtive, furious - rubbed his face enough to feel it warm slightly.

It was distracting, the cold, the ice, the - "Yeep!" Dia flinched, full body, and nearly fled his skin as she popped back up on him. He hadn't even sensed her!! "Don't startle me!" hiss-spit and then -- oh -- shoes? The gall that she was being nice! Like he was hardly a threat - like...

He should've refused.

He didn't.

He growled a 'thank you', like some puffed up fur-bun trying it's very best to give off a vibe that screamed menacing. The gold heels got gone, sloughed off into subspace, the boots - warm - soft - furlined. Diasporite sighed even as he put them on. Wiggled his toes and felt blessed warmth within them.

"Seriously though...thank you..." manners, it was fine to have manners with his, what? Was she a captor? A savior? How in the ever loving hell did he interpret any of this! "Now...exactly. Where are we? It's very beautiful...I hate it...but...it's lovely." even the way the wind howled with such an eerie quality. Beautiful. Otherworldly. Dia had nothing with which to compare it.

“We’re on-” She hesitated for barely a moment, catching herself before handing out names to someone who might use it for who knows what reasons. “My homeworld…” Alcor glanced over at the young man, sighed, and for a brief moment considered offering her coat to him. Fortunately, he was far more clothed than Eleonora was in uniform.

“I figured we’d be safe here for a little while. Give that owl thing time to get bored and leave before I take us back.” When it became apparent that he couldn’t teleport, she felt that this was the only option left to keep the both of them safe.

Why? Well, truth be told she wasn’t entirely sure why she felt obligated to save him. After all, it was the Negaverse that nearly turned her into a monster. But-

“Once we get inside it’ll be less windy. There’s a stairwell that will take us to one of the city's entrances. There are homes that should have some warmer clothes, or at least some blankets while we wait.” It was up to him though, staying up here would be fine by her, no different than being at the ice rink all day. However, she suspected he’d feel less inclined as Eleonora often was.

*Her Homeworld* - Dia took stock and pause, breathed frost into his gloved hands, and marveled at it all. Eyes ever-wide and awestruck, for how they lost some of their sneering edge and lines in sake of wonder. He'd never seen or heard of such a thing - and being here was so very different than being told about it, than reading it in a book written by someone elses hand. He was on a whole nother planet, a world, her home.

He was in trouble, then, he realized, for all that she promised to take him back. He could only nod along briefly, shove his glitzy gold pieces of trash shoes meant to spark jealousy and pretty kicks over protection; into subspace.

He followed. He would trust her, because if he didn't? Well -- he wasn't sure if there was a phrase for going from an owl filled frost-hell into an inescapable freezer, but there needed to be.

"It's.......ah....how many people are here, in the, in the homes?" the chitter of his teeth lessened as he nodded eagerly, followed her briefly in under further cover. He would've very much liked to steal a blanket - just as badly as he wanted to overlook the city from above. He swallowed around that, his small betrayal for being curious.

Ah well..so long as no one knew?

"I don't want to steal some ice beasts blanket out from under them, or whatever would have lived here. This is all, it's massive, your home is massive yet your so small? That's - doesn't that seem strange?" quick little quips laced round questions as he curled his boots with every step. Warm. He was so glad for the warm.

He'd thank her by letting her live! That - yes! That was the thing to do!

“Nobody lives here,” not anymore. “My world died centuries ago.”

One might be worried that they might find bodies frozen in their beds; still whole and with peaceful expressions. Or curled up in some corner trying to stay warm, citizens perfectly preserved in a world made of ice just waiting for a thaw that would let them breathe in air and life once more. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on who you were and how you perceived the situation, there was no sign of life ever existing.

There were no footprints on the stairs or open hallways. It was as if everyone had suddenly left in a mass exodus to avoid some catastrophe or that they simply disappeared where the only evidence that they were here was in the architecture and items left within the buildings.

That, and the soft distant echo of children laughing.

The Senshi of Cold seemed almost distracted in how she would pause from time to time to glance down alleyways or adjacent streets. Twice she stopped to watch Dia, noticing he seemed unfazed by the giggling which meant that either she was hallucinating or it was another memory like the one she experienced the first time she had visited her homeworld.

Alcor led him in silence down rows of homes, until the source of the laughter came into full view. There were children outside playing; throwing snowballs at one another. Some played with a vupin type animal with soft long hair and across the street she watched as a pair of men hoisted large bags of supplies over their shoulders.

One of the children let out a startled scream, a sound that caused her to jump suddenly, as they ran from one of their older siblings, trying every which way to evade being caught until finally, they made a beeline to one of the homes.

“This way,” Alcor motioned for Dia to follow.

The hinges on the door protested the movement but something kept them from breaking. Inside, the structure was moderately sized, similar to a rambler in that it was a single story. An open floor plan offered the impression that family, communication, and being able to see each other were important in each dwelling.

“You can check the bedrooms, there should be a wardrobe or chest that will have warmer clothes or blankets.” She walked across the great room towards the back and opened a door that led into a moderately sized room with two full-sized beds. At the foot of each of them, there were two wooden chests with leather straps to keep them closed rather than a lock.

"Centuries...*how old are you*....." shook his frost tipped braid, a solid no because he wasn't asking. Except for how he was. How old was the Senshi, her world, lifeless dead - beautiful. Was that the price to pay of being a being born of a distant star - some far off planet that was probably frozen year long. Was this why they'd all fled to Earth? Singular habitants fleeing the dead of eons beyond ---

Diasporite was ever so hesitant to touch the things of *ghosts* - if freezing had been the preferable option. It wasn't. Still --- he trailed her and his awe fell into unease. He wondered if this was what historians felt like discovering cities of old buried under ash and silt - the Pompeii's and Easter islands of earth; except in space.

The Senshi who led him seemed far more affected, and he twitched every time she paused to look - to try and see what she'd seen - just in case her lie of the world being abandoned to a tomb was a lie. Yet there was nothing. Whipping winds that became buffeted by the enclosure of alleys, distant blowing, the soft patter of snow heavy on outcrops - then silence.

Silence, and a very jumpy Senshi.

Dia flicked his nails into being, what little good the costume jewelry would do, just in case. Her voice broke his stride behind her, he jumped for the squeak of hinge; peeked round the door nervously, expecting the worst. Finding more empty. Endless emptiness. "Mmhnn...y-you're sure...no one here, just me and you? Not even..not even a bird, or - or a mouse?" caught the frame in a clench of claws and clicked them, nervous staccato over the cold exterior of it. Before swallowing bravely and checking inside.

"Because, if this gets me haunted...I'll be very upset...warm isn't worth being haunted for..." his hair stood on end, nape of his neck goosebumps and cold sweat that caught flex of frost neath the lapels of his clothes. "....where did they all go in such a hurry." hissed breath that misted thick in the air, he tried the wardrobe first, because chest's screamed 'trap' and private things.

Normal people kept clothes in wardrobes, he was sure.

As sure as he nearly peed himself for the hoarse way the armoire opened; scant remained - like whoever'd been before had fled in a hurry. Small things, childrens, womens, mens. Some furred animal sewn into a coat that made him think of the fluff which bestowed the Senshi before him - all those whites and blues - fur thicker than mink.

Diasporite yanked it free with haste and threw it on like something might jump out after - might chase him the same way it chased the Senshi's darting looks.

From the room she was in, Alcor all but balked at his question about how old she was. Even went as far as to glare at the wall in his general direction before rolling her eyes and eventually opening the chests in the room she was in.

I’m not that old… she thought almost bitterly; at least she didn’t think she was.

“Assuming nothing has changed since the last time I visited, then there is nothing else living on my world. However, I will neither confirm nor deny the possibility of a haunting.” She saw kids and heard their laughter, so far he didn’t react to them but who knows; maybe Alcor would get lucky and he would taxi them home with him so they’d no longer be her concern.

Wishful thinking since she was aware that these were merely memories of a life once lived but it was an amusing thought to send them home with him. “I’m sure you’ll be fine…”

The first chest she sorted through indeed had only spare blankets inside; soft fur on one side that she could only assume had been skinned from an animal, or beast, that once lived on her world. Or trade, but unlikely since she had yet to experience a memory that hinted there being people from another world visiting.

In the second chest, however, there looked to be an assortment of toys; a teddy bear and a few other stuffed animals. Indeed there was another blanket, this one a bit smaller than the other two; a throw perhaps or one to use while sitting. Beneath it, however, was something most intriguing.

Ice skates.

Not like the ones they rented out at the rink, but something similar to antique blades, ones that attached to the bottom of a pair of shoes. The blades themselves, interestingly enough, were not made of metal; rather what appeared to be a blue stone that felt cold to the touch. Then again it could just be her hands going numb because she hadn’t been wearing any gloves since they arrived.

The unique treasure was stashed away in her subspace pocket for further inspection later while she borrowed a second pair of warmer boots to replace her sneakers with and grabbed a blanket to wrap around her shoulder for a bit of extra warmth.

“If you believe the Owl beast is gone I can take you back to Destiny City now. Otherwise, if you think it might still be waiting then we can stay here for a little while and hope it gets bored. Completely up to you.” Alcor stood in the doorway to the room Dia had been inspecting, a passive expression clearly impartial to either option.

*Ancient*, clearly this woman was absolutely ancient. Senshi were the strangest sort of things. Dia shuddered and wondered if he'd had his fill of this. Owls, evil space aliens, dead worlds full of icy winds and things he couldn't see that she clearly could!!

Her gentle reassurances fell on deaf ears; felt flat like the surface of a too tranquil lake. He watched her rummage distantly, mucking about on his own - with caution in every touch of aged surface and gentle little step. "I..." and that got his attention, whipped him around to stare with a narrowed gaze where she stood framed by the door and waning blue tinged light. "...I think I'd like to go back now, take our chances with that Owl beast."

Her world was too many things, sad, eerie, beautiful. He didn't want to have any more sympathy for this one, not atop of the fact that he, of all people! Clearly owed her an apology for the save. Pink hued gaze lingered only ever so briefly on her find, a curious pair of ice skates -- but no -- he'd ask no more questions; would huddle up close instead, and put himself within reach of her.

Alcor didn’t even make an attempt to hide her surprise. Then again, from his perspective, he might be wondering if he were somehow her prisoner here. Left to her mercy and whim; he wouldn’t be wrong with that vein of thought… After all, she was the only one who could taxi him here and back. But to prefer facing the Owl… she wasn’t sure either of them was fit nor ready to take it on again.

Still, it’d be best if she didn’t allow his mind to play out some outlandish scenario about being kidnapped, painting her as some sort of villain when all she’d been trying to do was save both of them. The last thing she needed was to have a target on her back so that every Negaverse agent and their mother came after her hide. She really didn’t need another reason to not power up especially with Aliens now walking the streets.

“Ok,” with a sweep of her hand Alcor opened her subspace pocket and stowed the ice skates away. “We can go back.” No use in arguing since she could always come back at a later date.

She held a hand out to him and once he took ahold the two of them blinked out of existence on her world and reappeared in the same mound of disturbed snow at the base of the tree where he had been scuffling with the owl not more than an hour prior with all the walking they had done. “I’ll let you borrow those for now,” Alcor motioned to the clothing he had on. “Please return them when they’re no longer needed.”

Honestly, she didn’t care if he decided to keep them so long as they didn’t end up in the trash or some Good Will pile. “Seems we’re safe for now, but I wouldn’t tarry too long in case it comes back.” Alcor turned and with a half-hearted wave left the Lieutenant to his own devices.
