"You don't even look like your brothers and sister!" Came the cruel voice of one of the other little kids. "You sure you weren't found on the beach?" He started to laugh at the cruel joke.
Siofra stood awkwardly with a frown on her face as she looked down at the sand. She couldn't exactly tell them the truth, that would get her in trouble and ruin the plans her parents had put in place before she and her brother were born. The tears in her eyes were from frustration but it was clear from the taunts that the boy thought he was making her upset.

Zohra 1
He'd been out enjoying a walk when he heard the commotion from the other kids. Usually he'd have been there already but he'd been lagging behind recently as his attention seemed to be easily taken or given by random things. When he finally caught up he caught the tail end of some taunting to his little cousin. The other kids thought she was his sister though.
"Shut up." He called out and went over to Sio's side so that he could wrap an arm around her. "Leave Sio alone." His face clearly said he wasn't happy with the other kids.

When her cousin came over to save her from being taunted too much more she sniffled. Holding back her frustrated tears she looked up at him. Quickly she brought her hands up to sign to him, letting him know what was said. She had to go slower with him than she did with her twin but he still knew what she was saying for the most part.
The boy just rolled his eyes at Zohra. "Are you sure that's even your sister? Looks to me like she was switched at birth. Your real sister is probably out there lost while you have this imposter."

He took his eyes off the other kids to focus on Siofra's hands. He knew when she brought them up like that she had something to say. He focused as she moved with different signs. He ended up gritting his teeth about half way through. Some of what she was telling him made him want to punch someone.
"Shh, its alright Sio."
Then the boy started to talk again and Zohra turned toward him. "If you don't shut up I'm gonna tell our brothers." He had no issues letting Lynx, Iexa, and Ari hear what was being said.

She was relieved that Zohra caught all of what she said. However, hearing what the other boy said made her stiffen up. Why was it such a big deal that she looked so different from the others? In truth she looked like her mother and that wasn't a bad thing. She tugged gently on Zohra's shirt then signed to him. 'Tell him that I take after Uncle with the shifter blood.' She figured that would make them quiet down even more.
The boy got closer as Siofra signed and by the time she was done he grabbed her by the wrist and yanked her arm out. "Stop doing that! Its creepy! Are you broken? Don't you know how to talk?"

When Sio got his attention he looked back at her and watched her hands. Zohra nodded his head. She had a point. His dad had shifter blood. That was where the white hair came from. All his other siblings had it. He was the only one that had his mother's hair color. He was about to do just that when he saw his little cousin's arm yanked.
"Hey!" He yelled at the boy and grabbed his arm. He held tight and squeezed. "Get off her." Normally Zohra wouldn't be violent but this was little Sio they were messing with. She wasn't like Zasha who would scratch someone's eyes out if pushed.

Her eyes went wide when she was grabbed and yanked. Sio almost screamed, but instead all she got was a gasp. The words that followed made her cry finally. The tears that had built up in her eyes spilled over. As Zohra came to her rescue again she tried to pull her arm free. She was almost frantic with her pulling. Sio just wanted to be left alone.
The boy yanked on Siofra again. "Oh shut up. Stop trying to defend the little imposter. Maybe she knows where your real sister is."

Seeing Sio cry made him even more mad. Now he was gonna have to explain to the others why his little cousin was crying. Ari was probably going to be the most upset. Lynx and Iexa were just gonna be mad. Zasha might actually scratch someone's eyes out.
"Would you shut up!" He snapped. "Have you lost your mind? Shifter blood is in my family! Did you think everyone dyed their hair and used magic to make their eyes grey? They take after dad!"
Although the yank on Siofra's arm made him respond with a bit more violence of his own. Only his other hand came up in a fist and made contact with the boy's jaw to get him to let go.

Her arm was let go when the boy go clocked in the jaw by her cousin. Instantly she hugged it to her chest, rubbing at the rose spots, and stepped behind Zohra. He was no Ari but he was still trusted enough to keep her safe from others when she needed it.
The boy was dazed from the hit but eventually looked at Zohra and then to Siofra with a sneer. He glared for a long time before he simply walked off. The other kids murmured things here and there about how they didn't think about the shifter blood before then.

He stood his ground in front of Siofra, with one hand out to block anyone from getting too close to her if they tried. When the boy turned to walk off and the other kids decided to follow he stayed that way for a second, making sure. Finally he turned so he could look at Sio. "Are you alright? How's your arm? Can I see it?" He was trying to use a gentle voice so that she would calm down some.

She was busy sniffling when Zohra turned to her. She nodded her little head but didn't look at him. She was scared to. Sio feared he'd be mad at her for not sticking up for herself. In truth she hadn't learned how to yet. The other kids didn't understand her signing and she wasn't too keen on speaking to them. So unless he wanted her to start throwing fists then she didn't know what to do. Then of course he was asking about her arm. She gently held it out for him to look at.

He waited until she held out her arm for him to look at. Zohra was easy with his touch when he took it to turn it over and look. Instantly he knew it wasn't broken. He'd had the misfortune of breaking his arm a few years ago so he knew what it looked like. But there were red marks and he worried they'd turn into bruises. Zohra bit at his bottom lip. Explaining bruises to his mom was gonna be interesting. "Well it's not broken. That's good." He gently pat her hand then looked up at her eyes. "Don't listen to what they say alright? They don't know anything."

Hearing that it wasn't broken made her nod along with her cousin. It made her feel a little better but it still hurt. So Siofra gave a small whine. It would convey all that she needed to. She was in pain and wasn't happy with what happened.
She already knew the other kids didn't know what was going on but that didn't mean their words hurt any less. Still she gave a slightly slower nod of her head. She used her hands this time to communicate. 'Hard to ignore though. They aren't wrong. I'm not your sister.' She just hated that she couldn't set them straight sometimes.

His eyes dropped down to her hands and he frowned a little. Zohra had to shake his head slightly at her. "Maybe not blood but.. you are just as much my sister as Zasha is." He spoke in a hushed tone just for her since they were out in the open. He knew the rules about that little secret.
He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her in for a hug. "Come on. I've got you and if it makes you feel better we can tell the others and let them beat the other kids up."

Hearing her cousin say that she was just like his sister made her smile up at him through the tears. It was kinda just what she needed then. And of course the hug helped. Siofra leaned into it and hid her face against his shoulder. A snort left her when Zohra suggested telling the others.
After a moment she pushed back so that she could sign to him. He wasn't privileged enough for her voice just yet, plus she didn't trust the thing right now. 'Don't tell Ari. He might get upset.'
