Arnica hadn’t sent much to Lazurite; there hadn't really been time. They'd been loosely negotiating when they could have gotten together to go sleuthing for the supernatural, and while they had a few tentative plans in place, tonight was spontaneous.
He’d texted her five minutes ago, ‘If you want to see something freaky, let’s meet up. ASAP’
Planning had happened in under a minute; things had just worked out like that. She was near a mirror he knew, and he made his way to a mirror as she did the same.
He’d jogged to the hidden mirror just a little bit aways from him and stepped through, glad to find her already there for him. He was only halfway out of the mirror and extended a hand for her.
“Come on,” he said, “Hurry. The lights are going all haywire, they’re saying it’s a poltergeist.”

“A poltergeist?” Lazurite hesitated a moment before placing her hand in his. The idea of moving through a mirror was such an odd one…but she always was willing to try new things…no matter how ah. Unorthodox they may be.
“Yeah all right. And just how did you hear about this?” She didn’t really expect an answer until they got there, but…how the hell did one find out about a possible violent ghost…it was…
Actually really uncomfortable, not that she would admit to that fact. No, she was along for the ride now…so hopefully it wouldn’t be too bumpy. Though, if it was a ghost, two senshi should be able to do something about it. They did have magic, after all. And if it wasn’t a ghost, but was just someone ******** around…well.
Lazurite did have to make her starseed quota too. And that sounded like a soul worth snatching.

Arnica took her hand. “Hold on, this’ll only take a second.”
He pulled her through after only that; the sensation was cold, like walking through water, but it faded almost as quickly as it arrived after she pulled her through the other side.
“I have a lot of weird contacts. Some people believe in this a lot. Like, build their whole lives around it. I don’t know what to believe, but if they think something’s really going on, of course I want to investigate. There’s a camera on the front door, you can see the windows from the street. A guy I know is monitoring it and said the lights are going haywire. No one’s going to know we’re in here since I just used a mirror.”
He was in the house–an old looking building that looked like it had seen better days, even if someone had tried to maintain it. It was dusty, and there were cracks in the wall and old stains on the floor. He didn’t release her hand, he just tugged her towards the hallway.
The whole place seemed dated, like it hadn’t quite escaped the eighties. There was something odd about it, but there were no energy signatures.
Only a strange scratching sensation from the ceiling above them, around them. Lights flickered in the hallway above them, and were rapidly turning on and off in the rooms further away.

Mm…nopes she wasn’t quite sure that she enjoyed moving through mirrors. At least it was quick, and the strange feeling didn’t linger…but still. It wasn’t for her. Lazurite would far prefer teleportation, thank you very much. She shook her head to try and clear it, but then nodded at his words and looked around with an expression that very plainly said that she was quite possibly regretting this. “I…see. Good god. Do people live here or…is it abandoned? I mean, I hope it’s abandoned but if they have a camera on the outside…are we going to find like…”
She wrinkled her nose. “...Hobos up there pretending to be rabbits do you think? If you ah. Catch my drift. ‘Cause if this place is abandoned and if they have a camera…like, They could have snuck in somehow. Maybe.”
Homeless people would be easier to deal with than a real ghost…it…well.
Again, she could just…add to her starseed quota.
“...I hate that scratching sound though. How do we get rid of it if it is something…not…human.”

Arnica must have picked up on her discomfort and he paused. He clearly wanted to get in the room, wanted to investigate, but he didn’t want to scare her–or mess up his would-be investigation partner.
“It’s totally safe,” he assured, “This place is supposed to be condemned. They keep the lights on to try and chase away transients but it doesn’t always work. The second floor–the one below us–is locked up, so no one should be able to get up here. I don’t know if anyone would try to be a rabbit, but.” He laughed at the idea.
“That’s a creepier thought than anything we’ll find, probably. If it’s not something human, well,” he grinned, “Guess we’ll find out. But don’t worry, my magic’s strong. And if it’s anything too weird, I can just take us out through the mirror again. Don’t worry!”
The lights shut off–and the skittering was worse. Something broke in the other room; it sounded like glass. It might have been a lamp judging by the sound of it, but it sounded like it was thrown.

At least Arnica seemed to find her worries humorous…it was. Not that comforting but. It was something, at least. “God you’re like. Way too relaxed for this s**t. I don’t get it but you do you, man.”
There was a threshold between brave and stupid, and personally, Lazurite thought that her friend here had crossed it long ago but.
The glass breaking made her give a small shriek, moving closer to the Dark Mirror senshi and gripping tightly at the strange transparent fabric that hung from his shirt. “What the ******** was that? Is it really a ghost? Oh my god we’re going to get murdered by an angry ghost…and I haven’t even kissed my girlfriend yet…” If she survived it, it would be quite a story to tell Iduna at least…and maybe they could both join up with Arnica again and…
Oh! Maybe he’d be interested in burning down the man eating tree up there….that would be nice. Iduna deserved nice.
“...Let’s go and get this over with, come on….the sooner we find out what it is the sooner we can leave, yeah?”

It was hard for Arnica not to laugh, and in a way she reminded him of his sisters. He had instinctively wrapped an arm around her to make sure she knew she was safe. Not too tightly! He didn’t want her to think he was trying to cop a feel. She had a girlfriend, and wasn’t his type anyway.
“Yeah, the sooner we figure it out, the sooner we can leave. I promise, it’s usually not what it seems. This is pretty freaky, though!”
He moved forward, because if there was a poltergeist, it was only fair that it killed him first for bringing her here.
“I won’t let you get murdered. You got a light or something? Oh, no. Here’s mine.”
He pulled out his flashlight just as the lights flickered on, and then violently shut off again. An electric hum flooded the air and an uneasy movement seemed to shoot behind them–in front of them.
He shined his flashlight into the room quickly to look for any perpetrators but there was only a broken lamp on the floor, and a chair that looked like it had recently toppled over. There were dried flowers and plants that seemed like they’d been nibbled, and dust and cobwebs floated ominously around the room.
“This is creepy, though.”
Something snapped above them, and a little piece of the ceiling fell onto Lazurite’s hair. The light fixture rattled like it was loose, and the ceiling almost seemed to be bowing in. Nothing moved, but the house creaked.

“Oh my god.” Lazurite jumped when the…when the whatever fell on her hair, and frantically tried to brush it off. “Is it alive? Arnica, is it alive? Oh my god, we’re going to die up here, aren’t we? Why wasn’t it just hobos having sex? We could have taken care of them, I could have taken their starseeds and we could have gone on our way, oh my god we’re going to die up here!”
Her voice was far more high pitched than usual, and her words came far too quickly to draw in a breath and she danced around, still brushing off her hair, frantic. “Arnica…don’t turn the light off! What is it?”
Perhaps…this had been a very bad idea after all. Whatever bravado she had tried to pretend to have had completely and utterly vanished.

“Stop–stop,” Arnica said quickly, and he had kept the light on to see the room but now that Lazurite was squirming he was actually worried about her. He took a step away so he could see her but he kept a hand on her arm so she’d know he was still there.
“--I don’t want to think about anyone getting it on up here, just hold on! I’m looking!”
His own nerves were a little agitated, just because he didn’t know what to expect, so when he turned the flashlight on her to inspect what had happened, he wasn’t exactly at his best. If he had been, his thoughts would have stayed in his head. Instead, he blurted, “Oh, s**t,” quickly, and reached out to smack the rat that was flailing in her hair.
“Okay, it’s not a ghost. I need you to forget that this was your first experience, come on. Let’s go back to the mirror,” he said, and was already tugging her back in the direction they’d come in. The house creaked again, ominous and threatening, like it wanted to swallow them up.
…He didn’t want to think about how many rats this place must be holding, but it sounded like an avalanche of little feet as he hurried down the hallway. The lights flickered, barely illuminating anything. He heard something spark, something else broke.
He didn’t know what they were doing up there, but he wasn’t sticking around to find out.

Lazurite didn’t hesitate as she was both led to the mirror and pulled through it, and when they were safely on the other side and out of that house, she sank to the ground and looked up at Arnica with wide eyes. “...Well. That was an adventure that um. I don’t really ever want to repeat.”
After a few moments she began to laugh, sounding only a little hysterical. “...Maybe next time…we can bring some rat traps with us…yeah? Um. Just in case. Or call in an exterminator first.”
She again brushed at the top of her hair, trying to rid herself of the feeling of tiny claws tangling up inside of it and suppressed a shudder. “...I’m…ah. I’m going to go home and get a shower. I think. Maybe three of them, actually.”

Arnica again resisted the urge to laugh, this time because he felt a little gross, too. “...Well, I mean, it was exciting. But I don’t blame you. Most of the time it doesn’t go like that. I’m going to head back and get a shower, too. That was disappointing, um. But if you want to do it again, maybe next time will be better! I’ll text. I’ll do the research next time, no guessing what we’re going into.”
If there was going to be a next time.
“Thanks for coming out with me though, Laz. Sorry it, uh. Didn’t go the way I had hoped. I’ll see you around!”
