Dear Parent or Guardian of Hillworth Student, Ata Boi 'Davie' Jaimeson;
Your presence is requested at an upcoming personal Parent/Teacher Conference, regarding your Hillworth Student, Ata Boi 'Davie' Jaimeson. Your presence is regarded as necessary to discuss certain aspects of his further education.
Sincerely,
Mr. Tyson S Keaton
Guidiance Counselor
Davie watched as DeeDee, or Laurie, his foster mother read the note, with a look of concern upon her face. She then looked to him with a disproving look on her face. "What was it this time?"
"I didn't do anything I swear. They didn't say anything to me, just handed me the note and told me to give it to you. I haven't been the the guidance counselor's office or the Principal's office in over a month, I promise." Laurie frowned, looking skeptical.
Davie knew that she would fight to the ends of the Earth for him and her other foster kids as well, but it was just that she knew him. For the past 3 years he had been coming home with notes from the guidaince counselors or principals, wanting to meet with her or other foster parents because of fighting, every other week - and it was lucky he hadn't been sent to Juvenile Hall yet, though he had been sent to Hillworth. But he was telling the truth.
Mr. Keaton was working with him on finding a better way than fighting to help the smaller kids to keep from being bullied and it was starting to work. He hadn't been in a fight for over a month.
Two days later at the meeting, Mr. Keaton started, smiling. "I think all the Hillworth staff can agree, that we've seen a massive improvement in Davie over the last month and a half?" The teachers all nodded their heads. However, many of them, as well as Laurie and Davie, looked quizzical as to what this meeting was about.
"I've been looking through Davie's files, and noticed that Davie turned seventeen last September." Mr. Keaton said, as if that point were to mean something to everyone. Yet, everyone, including Davie himself were incredilby confused about just what he was trying to say.
Mr. Keaton frowned, then continued. "I find no mention of Davie ever taking Driver's Education Classes nor ever disussing when he should. Now part of that maybe due to his issues and fighting problems, but I do not see why it was never discussed at all and put on a schedule. Mighty error on our part."
At this the teachers murmurred, scowling and Laurie seemed ready to speak up. However, it was Davie that crossed that road, very bravely too. "Uh, Mr. Keaton? You haven't worked with me very long. And that perhaps would account for it. How do I put it? Last week, at my job at a floral shop, I accidently planted the keys to the plant nursery I was in with some of the seedlings I was planting, and locked myself in. That was the fifth time this month, so I'm very lucky and thankful to still have a job there." Laurie squeezed his hand.
"I'm not allowed in shop class anymore, not because of fighting but because, while not paying attention, I have nearly taken people's fingers off two or three times, and done considerable damage with hammers. I'm not allowed in autoshop because I started the engine at the wrong time ... and uh.. let's not go there..." he trailed off.. looking into the distance, as Mr. Keaton's eyes widened a bit. "That was you?" He asked in horror. "JoJo's my twin sister..."
