Quote: Prompt 2 (Paint the Night Sky): Destiny City has already had its fair share of snowfall but for the past week it’s just been constant. There hasn’t been a clear sky in days, and even when it’s not snowing it’s still too cloudy to see anything. Finally, one night, the clouds have finally thinned--only to reveal something more surprising than the suddenly good weather. A glorious display of colorful light dances over Destiny City. Auroras are uncommon in this area, but it’s something unique to see. Especially because it almost seems like the colors blend like watercolors, and look like they’re deliberately weaving around each other. The snow seemed endless. Ignacio was surprised by it, in all honesty; it had been a while since it had consistently snowed in the way it had been that week. He chalked it up to perhaps the weather deciding that it wanted to actually give them a White Christmas before he realized that had been a mistake, and it had kept snowing. Odd. What should have seemed odder was the way that the lights broke through the cloud cover at long last. It would have seemed odder if not for its stunning familiarity. Was it gorgeous? Absolutely. Did he remember the last time he had seen a watercolour aurora and hadn't been able to sleep for days afterward? Yeah. "Hey, Arra," Ignacio glanced between him and the sky above them, "do you think we're gonna have another sleepless night, or?"

Richard leaned toward the window of the little restaurant they were eating in, glancing up at the shifting colours in the sky. "Christ, I hope not." The colours had definitely been enough to jog a memory he'd been less than enthusiastic to recall. The sleeplessness, before, had seemed never-ending. Perpetual and awful, the way it'd slogged and dragged at his brain.
Either way, he didn't like the fact that the aurora was back, and the endless snow had not helped Richard's sense of unease about the whole affair. Snowdrifts were piling up almost faster than they could sweep and shovel them from the driveway and path in front of the house.
Sure, it wasn't currently snowing, but Richard didn't trust that would continue to be the case. He had already cancelled his classes for that day and the next. The kids were doing well enough in the competition classes that they could afford to take it off, and he didn't want anyone, competition class or no, getting hurt slipping trying to get to the dance studio.
His other job was also taking a pause, since he didn't have any interest in breaking his own ankles trying to get to one of the clubs with open spots.
Richard had deliberately avoided obligation-based contracts with the clubs in the area for this specific reason.
"If we do, I'll riot."

"Think I'll join you."
Destiny City had long been a place that the ordinary and the extraordinary couldn't be trusted to just be what it was. He had long adjusted to that, had been incredibly used to it considering his entire life experiences, but there were moments where he sometimes wished that a pretty sky display was just a pretty sky display, and that he didn't have to worry about what might follow.
"I remember stumbling to the fridge for just some water. Felt ******** desperate." He pinched the bridge of his nose, sighed, and glanced out the same window Richard did. This little place wasn't too far from home, which was good because the streets were still a mess. Still the first day it felt good enough to be outside of the house in a whole week--
"Maybe I shouldn't be so pessimistic, though."
He took a sip of water, letting his gaze drift away from the window back toward Richard once more.
"I mean, don't feel like I can't sleep just yet."

Richard chuckled, the sound warm and fond. "I mean, me neither. But then again, I haven't tried. I guess the real test will come when we try to go to bed later." He glanced down at his own water, but left it where it was for the moment. "It's early yet."
There were still traces of blue behind the bright colours, evidence of a sun that had not long ago set in an early winter departure. "Hopefully we'll be fine. I'm sure we can rummage up some extra-strength sleep syrup from last time." Maybe they could even get enough ahead of the curve that there would be some left in stores. Not only had it not been terribly effective last time, but even finding it in stores had been a monumental--and often fruitless--effort.
"If the lights are legitimate," and not somehow related to Chaos or any of the eleventy billion crises to occur in the past couple months, "then they're a nice sight, at least. Good and vivid."

"Think it's still good?" Not that the extra-strength sleep syrup had done Ignacio any good last time -- mostly felt like he was spicy dazed and anxious. He was fairly sure that was part of the cause of the wooziness that combined itself with whatever the Destiny City magic was doing--
He sighed, rubbing his temples.
Well, maybe considering the last few months, sleepless nights weren't so bad. Maybe he and Richard could just get away from it by squirreling away to Encke's Comet--
His eyes drifted back toward the window, and he leaned toward it to get a better view of the lights that danced in the sky.
"Honestly, yeah," he chuckled, "they are pretty. I hope they just remain pretty and not," he rubbed his neck, "you get the idea. Maybe we can replace those hallucinatory memories with nice ones."

"It probably is? It probably won't kill us to take it if we need to, at any rate." Blah blah reduced efficacy something something. Richard leaned closer to the window again, frowning slightly as he looked up at the sky again. "It's probably fine."
He turned back toward his food to take a bite of the fish sitting there. "I'm not going to say any more than that, obviously." As he chewed thoughtfully, "don't want to jinx it."

"And if worse comes to worst?" Ignacio took his eyes off the bright skies as well, turning back to the food in front of him -- Richard had chosen fish, but Ignacio had his eyes on some seafood pasta and had ordered plenty of it -- "can always just run to space for a few days. Maybe that'll break us of it."
Last time, they were arguably stuck in the city.
"You didn't know I was what I was last time this happened, after all."
He paused, before adding, sheepishly, "And my home's in better condition now than it was then, anyway."

"Both things are true," Richard replied magnanimously, with a gentle wink. "This could always be worse, anyway." Not that he planned on enumerating how, because of the whole 'not wanting to jinx it' thing. "But we're a bit overdue for a visit to the comet, aren't we?"

"Overdue?"
Ignacio grinned.
"Suppose so. Have you seen the mice yet?"

"No, you didn't tell me you had mice!" Richard leaned forward earnestly. "Are they big, or are they really small? Do they glow at all?"

"How did I forget!" Ignacio's eyes might have sparkled in the light of the aurora outside as he leaned in a bit closer. Not that he thought anyone was really listening in, but-- "Not too big. Don't seem to glow unless they munch on some of the bugs -- or get too close to the electricity. Maybe--"
He glanced back outside, and then leaned in further.
"Watch the aurora for a bit, and go to Encke after?"
Honestly, now he wanted to go even if the aurora wasn't there to leave them sleepless and drowning--

"Hell yes I want to watch the aurora for a bit and then go to Encke after." Richard kept his voice down, but only just, his eyes sparkling to match Ignacio's. "Are you kidding? That sounds amazing. I'm going to name one."

Ignacio snickered to himself. "Well, if you're going to do that, maybe we should grab some kind of identifier. Don't wanna lose track of your little named pet."
He slurped up some of his pasta, before grinning and offering, "Let's finish up here and go?"

"Do you think a collar would be harmful? Would they even wear a collar?" Richard's eyes wandered toward the ceiling, gazing through it thoughtfully as he flaked off some of his fish.

That drew a snort that followed with a cough and a, "Honestly, I have no idea, but we can try. There's gotta be something small enough..." What time did the pet stores close...
"After we finish our food."
He reached over the table and pressed his finger to Richard's nose.
