John had made sure he had come in an appropriately themed fun winter vest and had grabbed a seasonal coffee before coming into work. Today he was going to help out at the Destiny City Natural History Museum. It was different from what he normally worked with, natural vs. man-made art and other such pieces, but they had been looking for volunteers and heck, maybe he would learn something as well! And luckily the museums were quite close to each other so moving from one to the other wasn't a problem. He looked at the notes that had been sent to him, he was supposed to go to the activity area to meet someone named... Aerin? Hopefully they had a nametage. He had just grabbed his, pinning it to his chest and following the map found his way to the room. It looked quite nice! It was decorated just in time for winter and everything that came with it that he couldn't help but admire it for a moment. Then he looked around attempting to figure out where Aerin was and saw a young woman who seemed to be in the middle of working on something and whom he thought their nametage said Aerin. He wandered over to her. "Hello! I'm John from the Art and History museum and I'm here to help out today! May I assume you're the Aerin I'm looking for?" He said, holding his hand out.

John had found his way to what was normally the children’s section of the science museum- it was indeed festively decorated, with some areas set aside for themed holiday children’s experiments in addition to the normal activities.
Aerin (also dressed festively- specifically, she’s wearing a cute, gingerbread-patterned skirt) jumped and looked over at John. She had been working on pulling some beakers and other supplies out of a box and setting them out. “Oh sh- Uh. I mean, hi?”
“You’re… John, right? From over the Art History Museum?” She tucks a stray hair behind her ear. “I was told you’d be coming over to help? We’ve got a few fun holiday-themed experiments to set up for the kid’s night tomorrow. Some simple, fun chemistry to get the kids excited for science- making fake snow, dissolving candy canes in various substances,, and a demonstration for the end of the night.”
That she looks legitimately excited for. "Have you ever heard of elephant toothpaste? We’re gonna be doing a large-scale version of that experiment. In holiday colors."
A pause. "That's the one where you use hydrodgen peroxide and yeast to make a big, impressive fountain of foam. Pretty common in high schools? That one."

He nodded at her first question, but shrugged at the next. "Can't say I've done anything like it, but it basically sounds like a different version of a school project volcano. With uh, different ingredients." At least he had found the right person! He certainly hadn't wanted to wander around the museum just trying to find them! As interesting as it was, he would have to come back later just to look when he had the time! "Sounds like you'll be doing a lot of interesting things!" The museum he worked at was doing things as well but it was more arts and crafts. "Just tell me what to do and I'll get right on it!" He said with a chuckle.

"Oh! Eh, basically? Different reactions, and this one's much more impressive, but its tame enough parents won't be scared and kids will be excited."
Aerin casts about for something this guy could help with.
"Could you pull the jugs out of that box? They're filled with a couple different liquids- they should be labeled- and pour them into those tupperware out on the big table? They're for the candy dissolving experiment."

"Ooh, now I wish I could do these myself! They sound exciting!" John said with excitement in his eyes. He wondered if he would be able to get the day off, at least to come over and look. But would it be weird for an adult to do it? Should he try to convince one of his siblings to let him borrow their kids so he wouldn't look like a total creep being in the kids room? Well, it was something to think about at least! He moved over to the jugs and grabbed a couple of them, carefully moving them over to the Tupperware on the table and being careful about pouring them in. "So are you interning here or something? If you are I hope you're getting credit for it! Nothing like interning at a place for a semester and not getting credit for it..." He had never experienced something like that. Never.

"Isn't it cool? There's absolutely nothing like seeing the look on someone's face when they find out something new and incredible." Sharing that joy, the power of science- that was incredible. That was going to be Aerin's life's work, no matter what anyone had to say about it.
It was worth it, and that passion was writ cleanly on her face.
"...Technically, this is a volunteer position, though they did work out something with my school- it has that thing where you have to do a certain amount of volunteer hours to graduate? I do a lot of things, because I'm boring and trustworthy and we're really understaffed. I knew that coming in though; I do this cause I love it."
"Also cause I want to get into doing this for real someday. It's nice to get practice."

"I definitely feel that!" Perhaps he wasn't one to see new discoveries on people's faces, but he did know feeling it himself. Figuring out a puzzle or the clues to something ancient and piecing it together, it was almost an adrenaline rush every time. He nodded his head to her explanation. "Ah yes, I know those. You're lucky you got one here then! A lot more fun than the ones we were offered." He said with a chuckle. "It's good to have an idea of what you want to do in the future. I had my own and I love it, but make sure you go out and explore as well. You don't want to miss the world out there!" He said and finished with jugs and pouring.

"It could vary a little, but… I'm going into scicomm. I spend- a lot of my time devouring everything science-related, and it's so important and interesting and I can't not share what I know with the world." Aerin spoke with 100% certainty. There were a lot of things in life she questioned, but the importance of Science and sharing it with people wasn't one of them. "It's hard, but… it's worth it." "Uh- anyway. Since you've finished doing that, could you go get the candy canes? They're in that closet over there, the one with the door slightly open? We've got a lot- enough for the kids to take some home too."

"Definitely. And sometimes you'll feel like you aren't getting anywhere, but that just means that you probably need a break. And make sure to remember that you can always improve. Even if it's something small. I decided to become an archivist after getting a pocket watch handed down to me." A pang of sadness washed over him. While it was still extremely important to him, it had changed. It was no longer just a pocket watch. It was now his "weapon" and it would change as he became more powerful. It would technically be lost as it would lose it's original form, even if it changed for him. It was a good thing that he had written all of the history for it that he knew of down before he had awakened! Still, he was human and a change such as that was something he had needed to get used to. Which is why he never took it out. He didn't want it to be damaged if at all possible. He nodded to her and walked over to the candy canes, grabbing as many as he could and moving them back over, placing them on the table. "I think I'm going to have to grab some myself from the store on my way back." Add it to a cup of hot chocolate and it would be the perfect winter drink.

Aerin was quiet, for a second, before speaking again. "I don't think I could ever get tired of this. It's hard, sometimes. But I could do anything, if it was the right thing to do. I can't fix the world. Not on my own. But I can do this. I can make the world a little better, and I can do it doing something I love." "Your pocketwatch sounds cool. It's interesting, how people decided to break up time and measure it. The methods we use to keep track of history. We could have done so differently. But we didn't. And now we have pocketwatches, and atomic clocks, and calendars and leap days." Aerin was distracted from her train of thought by John mentioning picking some candy canes up after he left. "Oh! Yeah. I would offer one of these to you, but… anyway, we got them from the corner store a couple blocks away? It should be pretty easy to find, and they're having a sale because it's past Christmas, so."

John kept himself from chuckling. She definitely sounded like someone who would be good to have on their side. In a couple more years though. He didn't like that Senshi had to awaken so young. But if they could get to her before the Negaverse did... It was not the time or place to say anything close to what he was thinking and so he kept quiet for now. He would have to remember her though. "Thank you. It's definitely given me more meaning recently, but it also helps to remind me to keep moving towards the future. Even if I can only do something small today, like helping someone out with their future child workshops." He said grinning. He nodded at the candy information. "I'll keep that in mind when I get out of here." He looked around. "Anything else you need me to do? If not I'll head on back over to my museum." He hadn't been expecting to work here all day anyway. He had a half-day off and he was definitely going to grab some food from the nearby bistro on his way out for some lunch. Aerin bounced on her heels. "Yeah! You can't fix everything, but- there are a lot of things you can do to help anyways. Being nice to people, helping where you can- maybe it won't fix everything, but, uh. There's this song I like and it's right. Just because big things exist doesn't mean doing small things doesn't matter." Aerin tilted her head, thinking. "There are probably a couple of other things, but I can handle them myself no problem, but we're… pretty much set up already. Go enjoy your day. *And* get the discount candy canes. I'll go get some later too- peppermint is a very good flavor." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Have a nice day, sir! It was nice to meet you." SSBrosB AAAAA I dismissed the notification and forgot this rp existed! 😭 Also ending it now should be fine and this seems like a good stopping point! So like, fin from my end ig?

Voyager grinned. "You don't have to tell me twice! And I'm happy to be of service! Glad that I could be of some help at least!" He said and started heading towards the door. "I hope to see you again sometime! You have a good day!" He said before moving out. He would have to remember the candy canes on his way back. He couldn't help but be happy that he was of some help to another museum, but he would really have to take a tour of this place sometime. When he wasn't just here for work!
